Taqueria Mercado

I've lived in Cincy for 12 years and this is the only authentic Mexican I've found. There are other "TexMex" places, but this is the real deal- where you can actually get chorizo, carne asada, jamon, and other interesting meats.

As the other reviewer stated, the torta is amazing. I prefer the breaded steak, but they are all good and cannot be found anywhere else in the city.

Try something other than standard fair (if so, try Rio Grande in Newport as a baby step), this is hands-down the best Mexican here.

As for the other reviewers who said it's bland (no way- try ordering something outside of your comfort zone) and the service was bad (it happens, when they are busy it's a hornet's nest).

Normally I  work off a 3-strikes and you're out policy, however one of my favorite bands The Stardevils play here frequently so unfortunately I'm subjected to the ridiculousness of this place every so often. The food is mediocre on a good day and the service is absolutely HORRIBLE!!!! We were there last weekend and I'm guessing by the fact that we watched a table of 6 and a table of 8 just get up and leave after waiting at least 20 minutes for someone to at least acknowledge the fact that they were sitting there, that we were not the only ones that were irritated. I really wish The Stardevils could find another place for "tacobilly" night because I hate this place.

After getting mediocre service and mediocre food the first time, I only went back 2 more times because clients wanted to meet there. Every time the service got worse and the food more tasteless. Shame on me for ever going back.

Do yourself a favor -- don't ever go here. If someone wants to meet you here, put your foot down and say no, or make up some excuse. Just don't bother.

Your food will take forever. Your server will only see you twice during your whole visit and never refill anything unless you get up and walk over to them (and then they'll be annoyed you did). The food will be lukewarm, and it will be nearly tasteless.

If you want good street-style tacos go to Bakersfield (for a unique take on the genre) or if you want authentic Mexican street-tacos and other wonderful AUTHENTIC Mexican food, to to La Mexicana.

But JUST SAY NO to Taqueria Mercado.
