There are soooo many places to get pizza in Louisville, but I must say, Wick's is my personal favorite.
Wicky Wednesdays are weekly from 9-12pm (pretty sure) and mean that you pay $10 and get unlimited draft beer and pizza from the basic pies they set out (usually cheese, pepperoni, and sausage are the choices). They also turn the back room into a club with a DJ and dancing. If that's your thing, this location is great because it's right at Baxter and Bardstown which is a fun area.
However, what I really like best about Wick's is the Buffalo Chicken Pizza. Mmmmm it is divine.
My only complaints are that other than Wednesday nights, I do think the pizza is kind of expensive ($15.50 for the 10 inch version of my favorite BCP), and sometimes it is so busy that I've had to park pretty far down the road to find a place on the street.
The service here is hit & miss. Â The staff is friendly and polite but sometimes slower than I'd like. Â I get that it's busier than a lone flea in a fur factory. Â That just means you need more staff.
The Big Wick is a tasty pile of cheesiness and never fails to make us all fall into a food coma. Â Good stuff.
We come on Tuesday nights for trivia. It's a good, fun time! (It doesn't hurt that my team often wins...)
One of the bartenders in that back room is fantastic (I don't know their names) and totally on the ball. The other one is a little more aloof and it is difficult to get her attention to order food or a drink....even if she has just finished taking the order of the person right next to you.
I've had a few of their food offerings. Once I got the spinach salad. It was huge! Plentiful toppings. Really good. Last night I shared the Sicilian pizza with some of my friends. The toppings were great. It had a little too much sauce on it for my taste, but that is a personal preference.
So. I am 100% sure I will be back, if only for trivia and drinks alone.
Wick's has caused Wednesday night to become my favorite night of the week. When I first heard of their $10 all you can eat pizza and unlimited domestic draft beer I was skeptical. But it more than lived up to my expectations. The pizza is a buffet, but still much better than any of the large chains (Dominos, Pizza Hut, etc) and the draft beer choices are pretty standard (Miller, Bud, Amber Bock, etc). I had more than my fair share of pizza and beer and definitely feel like I got my moneys worth. This will probably become my go to place on Wednesday evenings from now on.
Review Source:Wick's Pizza has been a standby for post-game debauchery after LXC kickball games of late. $2 22-ounce beers with 25% off all food was a clear draw at first, but the quality of food and venue has kept us coming week after week.
The food is fantastic, service delightful and beer cheap and plentiful. Thursday nights are relatively vacant, but there is typically live music that can be hit-or-miss, and for the sake of socializing the volume could be turned down.
The outdoor seating would be better if smokers didn't claim it as their personal spot to exhaust their collection of cartons.
We are new to Louisville and 1st off Louisville has a million restaurants, so we picked Wick's to be our 1st pizza adventure. You can't really mess up pizza right? But there are those pizza places that really knock you off your feet. Wick's was so so, nothing to write home about or nothing that we will take our guest to. The atmosphere is neat, the service staff was friendly and the location is good. The pizza was stacked high with toppings which was nice. There was very little sauce on the pizza (my husband loves saucy pizza). The cheese looked like frozen pizza cheese and tasted about the same, not much flavor. The crust was so so as well. Nothing about the pizza was bad per say but as I said before you can't really mess pizza up right?
Review Source:Food is awesome and prices are good. Always a decent place to go and hang out, as long as I'm looking to just get a few beers and relax. The pizza is spot on. I will continue to return for these reasons. Just another good hang out spot on Bardstown Rd.
However, on my visit last night I was fairly disappointed with the service. Our waitress was kind and friendly, but slow to take our orders and bring our checks. This is typical of Wick's. I just make sure never to go there if I'm in an impatient mood.
The A.C. was also dripping on our table, which was commented on in a "yeah-that-sucks" fashion, but nothing was really done about it. Dining with a few intelligent people, we just moved the table over a few feet to solve the issue.
Live music started early and was very loud. The music was good, mind you, but definitely made our dinner conversation difficult. This is also typical.
Overall - I love Wick's pizza and I love Bardstown Rd., but I just have to take these faults into consideration. I recommend sitting outside and planning to sit back and be patient. It's worth the wait.
Just ate here for lunch. We ended up getting a good ole pepperoni pizza even though the menu boasts a variety of specialty pizzas (w/chicken, veggies, and dressings etc). Â The sauce is great, I appreciated how hearty and zesty it was versus being a thin, typical tomato sauce. The cheese is also deliciously creamy, stringy and generously added on top of the pepperonis. Apparently they only use 100% whole milk cheese.
The only drawback was that we seemed to have waited a while for our simple order of 2 Pepsis and a 12" pepperoni pizza when the restaurant wasn't necessarily packed.
Try. You like...... Drinks are pricey but the fantastic pizza makes up for it. Tried the 'mexican pizza' for the first time and was satisfied but at the same time a little disappointed in it. The 'Big Wick' is always a favorite as well as the all veggie. The 'mighty meaty' is good if you want that much meat but be prepared for the after effects! Still all in all my favorite pizza in Louisville.
Review Source:Great pizza, lots of toppings on the specialty pies. Â We ordered the smallest size Wicks special on the recommendation of our server. Â That was a great recommendation... Â The beer selection is awesome, wheat on tap to anchor steam and plenty others to keep the beer drinkers happy. Â The place is a little confusing and does get college-ee after about 9 pm. Â So, if you have a problem with crowds or noise or people having their fun that way, go earlier in the evening...
Review Source:Wicks is an awesome joint with a great atmosphere and friendly servers. We've gone 3 times and the last time we went was on Christmas night. The side dishes aren't worth getting, as there is a lack of originality and basic filler food. The pizza is decent with a fairly tasty crust that wasn't too heavy. I've had better, but I still enjoy Wicks. My favorite is the 18' mushroom pizza for under $20. Plus, the leftovers from the pizza are awesome too. We'll definitely go again because the price is unbeatable for their pizza.
Review Source:What can I say? The pizza is good. For me, I tried the "Big Wick" full of meat and veggies. The crust is crisp and not too heavy. Â The sauce is just right, not overpowering but does have flavor. Lastly, the toppings are over-abundant, but in a good way! This is definitely one of the top pizzas that I have had in Louisville so far.
I do have to say that the service was a bit slow. We went to the bar for our first round of drinks because no one was coming to our table. Our waitress was apologetic, however, and things improved from there. I will definitely enjoy Wick's Pizza again and I encourage you to check it out.
Wicks hasn't won the "Best of Louisville" every year since 1867 for no good reason! Â Hands down the best Pizza in the entire city! Â If your not in the pizza mood, then I highly recommend the Hot Sicilian. Â Nearly everything on the menu is dope. Â Trust me!
P.S. Â They have a nice selection of something called "beers."
Right in the thick of things where Bardstown Road merges into Baxter, Wick's Pizza is a popular, chill, hang out. Wednesday night it is the place to be with $10 all you can eat pizza and draft beer. Count me in.
Bikers, frat guys, it is pretty diverse. Not my favorite pizza, but it's pretty good. And especially at that price!
They serve a pizza-like dish here. Â I'm not saying that from a NY pizza snob perspective, just as a person with taste buds. Â It is about what you would expect- the flavor profile is what you might get from a high-end frozen pie or one of those chain delivery shops (papa john's or dominoes). It isn't terrible-terrible, but it's nothing anyone should rave about either.
The joint is divided into three distinct sections: the pizza parlor section; the sit-down restaurant section; and the bar area. You have to enter through the parlor and then make your way through each section, which is sort of silly, considering each has a storefront on the street side.
My companion and I went to the bar, which was staffed by very pretty ladies (one of whom seemed to have taken a shine to my boy). The beer selection was admirable and Southern Tier 2x IPA was recommended by the waitress as though she could read my mind. Â I had a good time.
Stopped here on the recommendation of one of my traveling companions who thought this would be a low-key place to enjoy some food and brews during the Derby weekend. Â Our plan was to avoid the high-traffic areas down town and indulge in some of the time-tested local color.
Well, the Bardstown Road area was very busy and this place was packed. We were able to get quickly seated with a fairly large party and get our orders placed by a really kind waitress. Â Our appetizer order was miffed, and didn't arrive until the very end of our visit but the "Big Wick" pizza we ordered was unique and tasty. Â It is a very large pie with a crust in the medium-thickness category. Â A very pale white cheese on top. I Â was only able to defeat two pieces and it was very satisfying. Â I appreciated the fact that the order for our appetizer was removed from our bill, and they were able to provide better than adequate service during a very busy period. I am sure that I would really enjoy visiting here during a less intensive business period.
Awesome service, but so-so Pizza. Â My girlfriend and I came in on a Saturday night around 11 pm. Â Rachel came right on over, cleaned off our table and had drinks to us in minutes. Â Service was good! Â
Unfortunately, the pizza was just okay. Â Being that my girlfriend is from Chicago and is a "pizza snob" we have been in search for the best pizza Louisville has to offer being that its only a few hours drive from Chicago. Â Anyway, the pizza didn't knock my socks off, but wasn't the worst I had either. Â Good spot to hang out and just chill though.
Generally, my experiences with Wick's have been passable. Â Not particularly remarkable, but not unpleasant either; much like meeting yet another dude named Josh.
This time, however, was bad enough to warrant Wick's hitting my shit list.
I ordered the chicken fajita sandwich with a Blue Moon while my lady - an avid chicken finger consumer - ordered her favorite poultry morsels with a Mountain Dew, which, I'm suspicious, was responsible for the ragtag crew of extreme dudes doing BMX backflips while deliberately setting themselves on fire that made an appearance shortly after.
Anyway, I digress. Â Our waitress was not rude or unpleasant, but I really think she forgot our order because not only did it take an unnecessarily long amount of time, but it seriously tasted like it'd been microwaved and served to us. Â The sandwich was really bland. Â The chicken had no flavor and the peppers were ground so small you couldn't taste them. Â My GF's chicken nuggets were also tiny, and tasted horribly. Â They seriously seemed like supermarket nuggets that were nuked and tossed on our plate.
The food was also overpriced. Â Our tab was nearly $30 which was steep, considering the chicken nuggets didn't even come with fries or anything.
But hey, the Blue Moon was good!
After moving, I offered to buy my friends pizza. Since I had just gotten here, I asked them where I should go. Immediately they said Wick's. It was definitely delicious, just a little pricier than I had expected. With a Highlands VIP card (which my friend has), you get a free order of breadsticks (also delicious).
I'll definitely be back, but perhaps next time I'll just get delivery. This place is HUGE and has several doors. I made the mistake of entering through the bar door, and felt like a total ass when everyone (including the bartender) just stared a me like I had five heads instead of pointing me in the right direction.
My first pizza delivery in Louisville, and it was definitely "meh". Â I really liked the menu, and some of the flavor combinations were really cool. Â However, the crust is thick and doughy and not crispy at all, and that really bugs me.
Also, I ordered two 12" pizzas (one spinach alfredo, one pepperoni/black olive), and it was $37!! Â I was shocked! Â Especially since most of what you are paying for is bread dough and not toppings, this is really overpriced. Â This also means that you'll fill up quicker since most of what you're eating is bread and not toppings. Â Two of us finished the equivalent of one 12".
The sauce here is sweet and not at all spicy, so if you like a sweeter sauce thicker crust, you will probably like Wick's! Â One good thing about this place - they use whole-milk cheese, so that part is darned tasty!
The pizzas have good thick crusts (what a New Yorker would call Sicilian crust, but not as absurdly thick as what a Chicagoan thinks of as thick crust). The dough also has great flavor. The pizzas are pretty expensive though: our 12" was $18.50.
There are ~15 beers on tap, and even more bottled. They serve the drafts in pints and 23oz glasses.
I was surprized at how slow it was for a Friday night, but maybe everyone was partied out from NYE.
We went there on a Saturday night for a family celebration with another couple. We got a table in 5 minutes despite the filled dining rooms.
Atmosphere: is a little loud, but fitting. The tables on the bar side have flat screen satellite TVs in your booth. You can pull the TV out and change the channel on the box behind the TV. We loved that.
Pizza: Was great. We moved from Chicago and are very critical of pizza. Wicks was flavorful, had plenty of toppings, was larger than expected, and the menu gives tons of options for all kinds of pizza eaters.
Tips:
-The hostess stand is at the back of the restaurant, between the bar section and the classic dining room section.
-The Bacon Ranch pizza is good the first day, and GALACTIC the second day as leftovers.
Love the place, WILL be back.
In Chicago there are 2 kinds of pizza - gut busting 4 inch thick monstrosities (aka deep dish or stuffed) or a horrifyingly bland cracker crust. Â I abhor the cracker and the others can only be consumed once a year at the most lest you risk keeling over into your cheese & sausage slice.
I had heard Wick's pizza was pretty good so we went one night for dinner. Â This location is huge, taking up 3 storefronts and offering outdoor seating. Â We sat in the dark main room and ordered a few beers along with a salad and the Grilled Fajita Pizza. Â Since I am not a big fan of ranch dressing and dont see what it has to do with fajitas anyway, we changed it to a red sauce. Â The pie comes with seasoned, grilled chicken, red & yellow peppers, and two kinds of cheese. Â Everything was good, but what sold it for me was the crust. Â Big and fluffy, it actually held together when you bit into it and tasted good!
FYI East Coasters - this does not resemble NY style 'za in any way. Â If I had to compare it to anything it would be like a Boboli crust. But if you are in cracker hell like I am you will definitely appreciate and savor this!!!
Wicks is a very cozy little pizza joint that is located in the Highlands area of Louisville.
Carolynne and I ordered the Mexican-Chicken pizza. We changed the sauce from their special ranch dressing to the traditional Pizza sauce. The Pizza was pretty tasty ,but nothing to write home about.
The service was prompt and friendly, the atmosphere was laid back and cozy.
I would be happy to stop back in for a drink or a sandwich, but I will pass on the pizza.
Wick's is a fantastic pizza parlor in a great Louisville neighborhood. We literally stumbled on it when visiting from Indianapolis, and a month or so later we gladly drove the 2 hours down on a sunny Sunday afternoon simply to have their pizza. We can highly recommend a traditional pizza with hamburger and jalapeno! They pile on the toppings and cheese, so you won't leave hungry.
Review Source:The pizza is decent, and they have this yummy "Wicksadilla" that's basically pizza crust folded over cheese which is unbeatable, but the best part of Wick's is the nightlife. Very laid back and a young crowd. Crowded but only to the point where you feel like the place is happening.
Wednesday's are fantastic, $10.50 gets you all the domestic drafts you can drink (granted, out of a plastic cup) and all the buffet pizza you can eat starting after 9:30, I think. The bartenders range from the polite to the dismissive, but the bouncers are teddy bears. Live music there is always pretty decent and there's a great back area with pool tables and the like if you want a break from the volume.
The pizza is okay... it's acceptable for the Louisville area, but not amazing if you appreciate a good NY slice.
What makes Wick's enjoyable is the overall environment. Its a fun, popular dining establishment that is also a decent drinking hole. I never get a pizza there without grabbing a pitcher too.
Will I go back? Yes.
Do I brag about Wicks? No
Great pizza...but get delivery. Â The inside of this place leaves a little bit to be desired. Â (Remember when you were little and your Mom and Dad took you to Pizza Hut and all you noticed were the crumbs, half uneaten crusts, crumpled napkins, etc on the carpet of the restaurant?) Â That is Wick's. Â I guess the good news is they don't apologize for who they are.
Review Source:One of my favorite places to enjoy a college football game, if you decide to go there for an NFL game you better be a Bengals fan, not a great place to be a Steelers fan, but a bartender is a fan so the Steelers are always on. Â
They have two bar areas which is nice, one is a stage area that has multiple bands, and its a great atmosphere. Â The other bar is nice, each booth has its own little flat screen TV which is great. Â They also have multiple flat screens around the bar with HD so it makes for a great sports place.
The food is alright. Â The pizza is definitely the specialty everything else leaves a bit to be desired. Â Overall, great atmosphere, great service, and ok food. Â Still a place I will go to watch a game.
If I didn't work across the street from Wick's, I would have definitely given this fine establishment five stars. However, the five to ten pounds I've put on since getting so close, makes them lose a star. Damn you! The Big Wick is amazing, and well worth it if you think you can tackle it. It is a monster. You don't have to just get the Big Wick to be happy. I personally like their meatball sub and pasta bakes as well, and they are always willing to pour you a nice 22 oz. draft whenever you need it. I usually only hop in there for lunch or an occasional after work beer, but have had the opportunity to roll in there at night. Usually there is hip hop, or a band playing on Fri. and Sat. and the place gets packed. Having a few bars in the surrounding area really opens up the potential to squeeze in some serious bar hopping. I of course refrain from that activity in my old age.
Review Source:Wick's has its advocates. I don't see this as the be-all of Louisville pizza but it's definitely right up there. However, I came in here on a Saturday afternoon and ordered some non-pizza, hoping to be surprised. No surprise was forthcoming. The kitchen was short and it took nearly 40 minutes for our meal to arrive. The waitress did a good job of letting us know about the situation. I guess I want Wick's to be as solid a "family" Italian eatery as I've found in other towns but it falls short of that.
Review Source:See: my last meal.
Wick's is, hands down, my favorite pizza in the world. Yes, folks, I have lived in Chicago. I have lived in New York. I will take Wick's. I have brought New Yorkers to their knees with the Big Wick. A friend in Florida has called and begged to have them FedEx it to her. And every time I'm home, it's the last place I eat so that I can stuff the foil-wrapped leftovers in my bag for the long plane trip home.
