This place is a hidden gem on an otherwise desolate stretch of Lasalle.

I had take out here once. This place seems a bit understated. I mainly a fan because it is nice to see a clean small business in the area with few unique food options that are affordable and it is not a pizza/wings/gyros or other chain store.

The food isn't authentic but it was solid. They don't overly spice their foods or even close to how it would be in real thai food. This is probably to cater to the widely Gold Coast taste palates.

I would certainly order from here again. I had their chicken green curry and the drunken noodle. the drunken noodle was not authentic or spicy as i have had it other places but it is still a good noodle dish.

I used to work close by and ate lunch here about once a month. At lunch, the entree comes with a spring roll for no additional charge. The service has always been quick and friendly, although, the waitstaff sometimes can be a little difficult to understand.

My go to dish is the Hot Basil Beef which is delicious.

Ordered for take out last nt. everything was good, but definitely not great as far as Thai goes in Chicago. Not sure if this is b/c of their healthy take on what we're used to.  I would also comment that their portions are smaller than your avg Thai -- though this can easily be seen as the healthy twist as well. Overall, not bad food, but not a repeat place unless you live in the area.

    Ordered in via Grubhub.

I was sick and in bed all day - all I craved was good curry and rice - debating between green and panang. I was looking for a place that also had pad thai and fried tofu.

Well, this place had it all but except for the pad thai, which I can say was 3 stars, everything else was 2 stars - including tofu fried rice, singapore noodles and the curry. Is it really that hard to make good Thai food? If you don't know how to, don't do it!

I'm a newcomer to the world of Thai food, but Garlic and Chili was the best Thai food I've had (so far!) in Chicago. I had masana curry which was delightfully sweet and spicy. I went with three friends and we dined in, and we had great, prompt service. Around the table we had crab rangoons, pad thai, red curry and singapore shrimp, and everyone was more than happy with their meals. Everything was pretty inexpensive, which was part of the reason we decided to go there.

Also: you can watch the cooks do their thing from a window outside, which is pretty darn cool. Extra bonus points for the cute decorations inside. It made it feel kind of homey despite the people coming in and out for take out. Will definitely be going back!

Err.. yeah. Shoulda known not to even consider the yelp reviews. SHAME. It's stormy and pouring outside and I'm hungry. Note to self: go grocery shopping. Get on that. AND I want something asian and I'm not in the mood for Big Bowl. I have to be in the mood for Big Bowl. It's slim pickins with good asian food around these parts (gold coast/river north) sooo I thought I'd give Garlic and Chili a try based on all the rave reviews. Fail. Should have went with Silver spoon over on rush.

First off- delivery was pretty fast. It took about 40 minutes, I was expecting an hour at least. Nice. Pad thai, crab rangoons and pad see ewe. I don't like that they charge extra if you choose pork or beef as the protein in your meal. So one with pork, one with chicken is ordered. Both meats were dry in the entree. The pad thai was not so great. It's a bad sign when I want to give the rest of the leftovers to homeless people. Poor homeless people- already battling mental illness, addiction ... and now having to eat my nasty leftovers. Because eating from the dumpster is better? The pad see ewe was a little better. Overall, better flavor. They use american broccoli in it. You'd have to be a truly awful cook to fuck up pad see ewe. The #1 fuck up for nasty pad se ewe in Chicago goes to Penny's noodles. The crab rangoons were really thick and doughy with little cream cheese. Meh.

Skip it all. I mean c'mon people, do any of you have any standards at all besides it not tasting like hot, pissed on garbage..? Aaack.

We just tried this place and the pad seew  w/veggies is very good, but the pad thia w/chicken the chicken was dry and they was no chili sauce. I cant rave about it compared to Star of Siam is a notch lower. But, the staff is super nice and polite. we will try again for sure though..

What a surprise. I stumbled on this place after a random craving for pad thai (which I didn't even end up ordering) and am a little nervous about how close this place is to my apartment.

i ordered the crispy thai rolls which were soaked in grease to the point where i could hardly get a grip on them. the drunken noodles on the other hand were superb. i could have used a little extra hot sauce but there was a nice amount of chicken and veggie.

also, the nicest people ever work there. def worth it.

Don't judge a book by its cover. The food is amazing and te service was excellent. I had my reservations about eating here because of the way it looked on the exterior, but I'm really happy we did. Some of the best Thai I've ever had.

Really nice people, very clean kitchen, good ingredients at a great price.

This is what a quick restaurant should be.

Had this catered in for a large group meeting.

Pad Thai- solid, nice flavoring.  Not as good as Butterfly's pad thai, but good.
Panang Curry- the best, everyone was getting seconds and thirds of this.  Delicious.
Other things that were OK/good:  crispy thai rolls, pad see ew

I recommend this for thai catering!

I will NOT order from here again.  I love Thai food and thought I would give them a try. I ordered a curry and Beef and broccoli and was quoted 45 minutes for delivery. After a little over an hour I called them to see where my food was. I was told it was on its way and would be there shortly. I then asked if the food had left the restaurant and couldn't get a straight answer and then was given someone else to speak with. His response was the same. I asked him why was it taking so long his reply was it was busy and oh well sometimes it happens...

I wont give them any more of my money since they do not value their customers. On top of that the food was just okay. Too many other Thai food places that have better tasting food.

Garlic and Chili.  What more could you ask for in food?

Now I've only had this Thai food catered (good catering service btw), but they food is delicious.  They market as "healthy Thai" and I'm not sure what makes it healthier than regular Thai, but makes a tasty meal.  In my humble opinion, the Navy Pier area lacks quality Thai, so it was nice to have the good stuff from a bit further north catered in.

The food: the crispy Thai rolls are excellent.  Those are the first to run out when we cater, so order plenty.  Pad thai is also nicely done, good flavor with great noodles.  An honorable mention is the panang curry with delicious, mild coconut flavor mixed with the flavorful curry.

Finally, the rice.  Great texture with just enough stickiness, not soggy or too dry.  It is the simplest food, but not all restaurants do it right.  Garlic and Chili have rice done right to complement all the flavorful food.

Had a coupon for a free appetizer with an order over $12..since I can do that myself, I figured I'd give them a try.

First thing I noticed was the language barrier. I "mentioned" the coupon, as it said to do, and she responded "only for delivery." That was fine with me, but next thing I knew, she was hurrying me off the phone saying I could pick it up in 10 minutes. Whatever...it's down the block and I'll eat the cost of the "free" appetizer.

The food itself was somewhat tasteless. I liked that the pad see ewe wasn't overly sweet with mushy noodles, and also that it had other vegetables in it (American broccoli, carrots, etc), but overall the dish had very little flavor. We also had curry noodles, which was almost inedibly spicy and came with a block of what looked like overcooked ramen noodles. The crab wonton appetizer was cold.

So many other better thai places....but if you want quick and cheap, this is the place.

Great food, good prices.  We haven't eaten in yet, always order for pick up.  I love their Drunken Noodles with beef and she loves their Pad Seew.

    Never disappointed in our order.

    I consider this Comfort food.

I've been ordering from here for years.....

Bf and I use it as our go-to neighborhood Thai spot.....and we usually get the same thing.....he: Singapore noodles.....me: Spicy basil chicken.....we: egg rolls. They always accommodate my request to grind the chicken for my dish and add extra veggies and so far I've not been disappointed with my food or had any problems with delivery.

    Quality is good.....ingredients are fresh....it's close to home and prices reasonable....that's a win/win or a win/win/win/win.....if you're keeping score.

Every good Chicago dwelling girl is armed with a go-to Thai delivery place. Garlic and Chili is mine. Located beneath dinky little Hotel Marshall, where transients are welcome and 200 rooms are available, I'm not quite sure this is the spot to dine-in... but it's great for delivery!

You know how some Thai places induce a sickly heaviness in your poor little stomach post consumption? Maybe it's too sweet? Too greasy? Too SOMETHING? Fret not! You'll get none of that at the G and C, just clean and incredibly satisfying Thai food.

Get the pad see ew, hot basil chicken, tom kha soup or glass noodles. I'm always impressed by how FRESH the food tastes. And so cheap! And so fast! How I love you, Garlic and Chili!

Oh, and they seal each entree very well so you don't have to deal with staining your dining table with a soggy paper bag. So thoughtful.

The setting: my 40th floor apartment in Streeterville during THE GREAT BLIZZARD OF 2011

I was supposed to go to the grocery store on Monday. By Tuesday night, there were 60 mph winds and THUNDERSNOW. Raisin Bran and cookies were fine for Tuesday, but by Wednesday, I was in no mood to venture outside and in dire need of food.

A quick Grub Hub search revealed that of the 200 restaurants that usually deliver to my address, fewer than 25 were open on Wednesday. Cue Garlic and Chili. Best Thai I've ever had? No. And they forgot to make the curry vegetarian, so that was kind of a buzz kill. The crab rangoon arrived cold, but I'm figuring that was from the delivery guy plowing through 10-foot drifts...which, I hope, is also why it took him almost two hours to get here. Still, the price was right and the food was decent.

I have passed by this place countless times over the years.  Each time I wondered who the heck would eat there.  The place is super small and shady looking.  Fast forward and I'm eating food from there and liking it.

I adore Thai food, it brings such comfort, especially when you had few too many the night before.  When wanting to branch out from my usual delivery spots, I was surprised to find great reviews for this place.  The food was really good and fresh.  I had the hot basil beef, very tasty and the beef was very lean and tender.  I'll definitely order from this place again.

This place was definitely a disappointment...

I saw the good reviews, and live literally down the street, so i thought i'd scope out...i had the chicken pad thai, the chicken was old and the pad thai was super old...i was not really impressed though..

so many better places in this city. opart is 100X better.

I live in River North.  This is my FAVORITE thai delivery place that will deliver to my casa.  Superfast.  Delicious (not as good as Penny's but hey, Penny's doesn't deliver).  My only problem is that they aren't open on Sundays...you know...that day of the week you are most likely to be hungover and wanting some yummy thai to soothe your belly.

I like the Pad Se Ew when I am feeling like being bad, and the green curry shrimp when I am trying to be good, because I tell myself it's a little healthier than snarfing down a heavy bowl of large yummy fried noodles.
The hubs gets basil chicken, spicy, because he likes his food super hot.  Last time he said he might not need to order it spicy anymore because it was a bit much for him....so be warned!  (granted this has never happened before so maybe it was just a different chef or something)

Tip: If you're ordering a dish with rice and there are two of you, you'll probably want to get more than one large rice...the hubs and I are not even huge eaters but we need a wee bit more rice than that between the two of us.

My tour guide from Absolutely Chicago Segway Tours suggested this place to me, saying it was one of his favourite restaurants.  It certainly was not a disappointment.  Now that I've left Chicago, there have been a few times I have craved this mouthwatering Thai food (that is incredibly inexpensive, to boot).
Garlic and Chili is a small place connected to Marshall Hotel and is definitely off the tourist map radar, but SO worth finding.  It was some of the best Thai food I've ever had.

Hate to say it Chicago, but the SF bay area has you beat on all fronts when it comes to Asian food (Indian, Thai, Chinese, etc). I've tried a few Thai restaurants since I moved here a few months ago and haven't found one I liked. It's been a struggle finding a place with good Pad Thai...seriously....

I ordered the Red Curry Chicken, pork fried Rice, Chicken Satay, and Pad Thai.

The red curry was up to par with what I've tried before and very tasty, the satay and pork fried rice was also decent. The pad thai was alright but some of the better pad thai I've tried in Chicago.  I had it delivered, which was very prompt and everything arrived hot. I think I found a winner :) Definitely recommended.

I have been a customer of Garlic & Chili, which is located in the Marshall Hotel--read kinda sketchy-- for eight years.  I've dined in, carried out and gotten delivery and generally liked the quality of the food for the price.  I forgave much of the service problems until last night.

As I was leaving work I placed an order so that I could pick up and eat right away.  I ordered my typical order and when I got home I found that the spicy drunken rice I ordered was spicy drunken noodles.  I called Garlic & Chili to let them know about the mix-up and the man who answered (who was the same man who took my order and the man who handed me my order) said that I ordered the noodles.  I said, no I didn't--I ordered the rice and on your menu they are called the same thing.  So then he retorts,  "What do you want to do about it?" and I replied " I want the rice." He asked if I was going to bring the noodles back and I said no.  I was already home and I live two blocks away, so he could send one of his delivery people.  And he said that he wrote down that I ordered the noodles so I must have ordered noodles.  I told him he wrote down my order wrong.  He said no, if he wrote noodles that is what I said.  I am not a huge complainer and I usually let things like this go, but the man's attitude was appalling.  I asked if he wanted to lose a customer of 8 years over this and he said "That is okay."  I made sure that I understood correctly because English is not his first language, and I did.  So that was the end.
Garlic & Chili which was empty without  even one customer at 720pm on a weekday, have that attitude! There are a lot of other quality Thai spots in the area and I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere.

Yes, it's in the front window of transient hotel. Yes, it's very small and the decor is plain. Yes, it's BYOB. But it's the cleanest Thai restaurant I've ever been to, and the food is fresh, fast, the portions are large, and the prices are very reasonable.

So if you're downtown on a cold winter night, this little place is warm, cozy and half the price of anyplace else you'd eat nearby.

Yes! Order from here because when I lived in Chicago I was totally and completely addicted to this place. Granted I lived right next door... but still.

Their Masaman Curry is always right on, as is their Basil Chicken.

Plus, delivery is fast! You don't want to eat in at this place - well, you can, but there are only like 5 little tables.

I had the pad-see-ew (with shrimp) and it was actually pretty good!  My friend had the green curry, but she wasn't as thrilled.

I'd actually give this place a 3.5 stars if I could (good, but not great, food)...but I saw a cockroach on the wall while eating, which was pretty nasty.  (Granted, it may have come from the hotel next door...but point remains that it was in the dining room.)

I'd love to give them more, since it seems like a solid place, but that bug just creeped me out.

Ignore the creepy transient hotel right next door.  This place is friendly, cheap and most importantly delicious.

The pad-se-ew is addictive - stir fried wide rice noodles with broccoli and carrots in a sweet garlic soy sauce. The crispy Thai rolls are light and flaky and served with a little cup of heaven (homemade sweet and sour sauce).

Easily some of the best Thai I have had in the city.... And due to the dangerously close proximity to my apartment, I am forced to practice some restraint ...otherwise my roommate may find me unconscious and covered in wide rice noodles from a
    pad-se-ew OD.

The sign that says "healthy Thai cuisine" might be a bit deceiving, but I'm thankful for those therapeutic words.

If you're in Gold Coast/Old Town and want to eat lunch for less than $8, this is a good option. The lunch special is just enough food for a hungry person, and their noodles are always really fresh. Most of their sauces are kind of sweet for my taste. Tofu cabbage soup is not vegetarian.
It's nothing really to write home about.

A tiny, clean, Thai joint with excellent service.  I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken, and found it pleasant.  The shrimp sumai appetizer was similar - a nice dish, but no particularly strong flavors.  The food was good, just not outstanding.

The waiter was excellent about keeping our water glasses topped off.  That's always a plus.

I'll go back and sample a few other dishes.  It's the kind of place I'll love if I can find a dish that hooks me.

Authentic and cheap Thai food in Old Town. The tiny restaurant is a hole in a wall that's located next to a hostel. It's easy to drive by this place because it's so discreet.

I've had the Pad Thai, which was one of the better Pad Thais I've had in Chicago. It's not as greasy and it's not chock full of peanuts. I also like that this restaurants offers brown rice. More Asian restaurants need to follow suit! They deliver as well, but I've never used this option. It's a must-go if you're in the neighborhood and don't want to shell out the big bucks for a hearty meal.

Throw away any presumptions about all Old Town restaurants being fancy and pricey before stepping into Garlic & Chili. This small Thai joint has about six tables, but has a bustling take out business. All entrees have hearty portions and are under $8. It's got all the staple Thai dishes, and they are done well: pad thai, pad se-ew, or the lad nar.

WARNING!! SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT and I think there is only one dessert. The lightly fried pastry wrapped bananas served with homemade coconut ice cream and a drizzle of sweet syrup, is soooo AWESOME!! In fact, to avoid the possibility of not having enough room for dessert, just have this first.

I used to live in the neighborhood and miss getting take-out from here so much!  I always ordered the drunken noodles and requested it extra spicy, which they were always willing to oblige.  It comes with wide rice noodles and lots of fresh veggies.  My friends seem to enjoy their red curry a lot too.  Though I liked their Thai spring rolls, I thought they were pretty average until I moved and was forced to order from other Thai restaurants.  I didn't know that other places could mess up spring rolls so badly.  Now when I get a craving for decent Thai spring rolls, I have to drive all the way over here.

The restaurant itself is nice enough I guess (and BYOB!), but I really prefered to do take-out or delivery.  Every time I ordered they were friendly, quick and our order was correct.  Surprising since as often as I ordered from here, you would think they would get something wrong!

A good friend of mine lives next door, and we always end up getting take out from Garlic and Chili Thai.  The food is pretty good... I always end up getting the chicken and vegetables or the chicken noodle soup (I don't remember what the name is).  The soup is really good, but make sure you ask them not to use too much salt.  Pad thai noodles are pretty good too, but not the best I've had.  My friend always gets the coconut cury chicken... says it's awesome.  Portions are huge... so make sure you're hungry.

Service is fast and very friendly.  I love that they don't use any hydrogenated oils and the food is never greasy.

After a long day of moving today I needed some good Thai food...and I wanted pad thai (forget healthy while in the midst of unpacking all my crap). My fiance came to the rescue when he brought me some chicken pad thai from Garlic and Chili Thai Cuisine.  Not the best pad thai I've ever yet, but overall pretty good and it definitely hit the spot!

I've lived in NYC, San Francisco, and Chicago and Garlic and Chili is BY FAR the best Thai I've ever had.

First of all, anything that is BYOB is going to get automatic stars in my book.  The noodles are totally fresh and perfect.  I've never had a greesy meal there in 4 years.  Just because its in a transient hotel and you have to go thru the kitchen to get to the bathroom dosn't mean this place isn't clean and fresh.  The prices are great (never spent more than 10 a person) and i've never had a bad "service" experience here (not that one would have high expectations at this kind of place)

Try the pad see ew, tofu cabbage soup, and spring rolls.  They also deliver!

This is an average thai place.  The food is sometimes good and sometimes its not that great.  We order here once a week from my work.  They are always pretty prompt and the delivery driver is really nice.  If you're in the area its ok but nothing to go out of your way for.

ps.  The tofu cabbage soup is amazing.

This place is so-so. What more can you really say? Its in a nondescript building along the somewhat bustling LaSalle Drive.

The name of the place says it all. They have thai food. Average thai food. All the dishes you know, a few with garlic and chili. Pretty much indistinguishable from any other average thai joint. Why waste your time?
