This place has a decent happy hour and I've always had friendly service. That being said, 3 stars is probably all they will ever get from me because I feel like it's a bit over priced. Oh, and pass on the hummus, while everything else I've had here is good the hummus is just awful.

While attending a conference in Kansas City, I ate at Gordon Biersch twice. The first time, my super food salad came out with chicken though I ordered it without. The second time, however, was far worse. One of the members of my party didn't receive his food when the rest of our food came out. Yet, the runners didn't give him an update on his order. Several minutes later, our server came to check on us. When we told him that our colleague hadn't received his food, he was surprised. He rushed off to the kitchen and returned with my colleague's burger and an apology. When my colleague bit into it, it was cold. Suddenly, a runner came and took the plate away without a word, and the manager scampered over to the table. Evidently, my colleague's burger had fallen on the floor. That's why they hadn't brought it out in the first place, but for some reason, it didn't make it to the trash. Although the manager denied it, the burger they eventually brought out was, indeed, the one that had fallen on the floor. If it had been a freshly made burger, it would have been hot and the staff wouldn't have behaved so erratically. The manager offered to comp my colleague's bill and offered to make him anything on the menu. My colleague, grossed out beyond all belief, told the manager that his trust had been broken and that he didn't want anything else. The manager, instead of reacting with professionalism, reacted as if my colleague was insulting him personally though I thought my colleague handled the situation beautifully. Imagine biting into a burger that had been on the filthy kitchen floor! For the rest of our time in the restaurant, our server and the manager scurried around our table with nervousness. And when we left, the manager strategically came over to thank us for our business after my colleague with the dirty floor burger had already left the restaurant. Accidents happens. Burgers get dropped. However, the staff and management at Gordon Biersch certainly need some additional training to understand how to deal with such situations.

The hubby and I had dinner here with another couple before going to a concert at The Midland.  They were very busy, although it was a weeknight. Our server was a little light on charm and personality as well as skill at his job.  He brought out salads with no dressing and didn't bring ketchup for fries. He didn't check back with us for most of the meal, but did eventually refill water and tea towards the end of the meal. The food was edible, but oh-so-unmemorable. Just kinda blah low-quality food. Salads are made with iceberg lettuce, there is far too much boring fried stuff here. I much prefer going to Gordon Biersch for drinks than dinner.

The ribeye steak was big enough for me and my boyfriend to share for lunch. The gorgonzola cheese on the steak made it memorable. We also ordered the lobster and jumbo lump crab cake appetizer. I was expecting it to be at least two pieces but it was just one, but the taste didn't disappoint. You could taste the lobster and crab in it just fine. The garlic fries were super yummy, too!

Came for a quick lunch during our convention/trade show. Although this is a chain, they still did a nice job with the Lobster Bisque and the Artisan Grilled Cheese Sandwich. The grilled cheese was great with bacon, Gruyere cheese and avocado mayo.  Since we were short on time, they pushed our orders through the kitchen which I really appreciated!

I was sitting across the street at another bar/food joint when I realized that I hated where I was and got up and left. I crossed the street entered Gordon Biersch. I have been watching UFC since 1993 and thought the organization was vastly improved once the Fertitta brothers took over. What does this have to do with GB? Those same brothers have been an owning party in GB since the 90's. After a short wait (which is unheard of in KCPLD on a Saturday night) we were seated and our server took our drink orders. For food I got the Kobe Burger. It was huge and filling but so good I wanted to order anther one. Wife got the bisque soup which I wanted to dip my burger in. Why only 4 star? Two reasons...I thought they were a little expensive and it was a UFC fight night. I thought they might be showing the fights! Wrong scene and maybe I expected too much... Great place regardless.

Generally, I give Gordon 3 stars, but last night the stars were elevated 3.75; we'll round that up to 4. I tried their seasonal blonde ale and, per usual, settled on the Czech pilsner. It's always a delicious reward for coming in the front door. The reason for the elevation? 5 words - Kobe black and bleu burger. A lip-smacking event for sure. I was more than pleasantly surprised. Kobe beef can dry out if not cooked perfectly and it was cooked perfectly! The garlic fries were yummy too. Though my friend thought they were too overwhelming.  Our server was attentive and friendly which made the overall dining experience with GB a swell time.

Stopped by here on our way through to At Louis.  I've been to the one in DC and they were great.  Here they weren't up to par.

First when you go to a brewery and order a beer, that should be the priority.  I got my app order and then food order before my beer came. Not cool.

Food was good.  Potatoes were warm but not hot like you would expect for how slow it was in the place.  Same with my wife's beans and rice.  At Least nuke them a little guys.

Server was great and on it but it was clear we were the only table when we were there.  Kind of lingered closely and somewhat awkward.

I'm not writing this place off just yet but we will see.

I go crazy when i see developers move into an area and then instead of inviting local places to fill up the spaces they fill them full of chains and crap.  Now I'm not sure what the story of Gordon Biersch is, but is there a reason 75th street didn't get this spot?  their beer is better, their food is cheaper and the people that go there are not dickholes.  so tell me again why they filled p&l with chains from outside the KC Area?  are our bars, brewpubs and restauraunts not good enough?  Well, that's beside the point i suppose.  My son and I came in, and went straight to the bar, the guy working couldn't have been nicer, but after a hamburger, soda, pasta dish, beer flight, bread pudding, we left nearly 60 bucks lighter in the pocket and i'm sorry, but it would take a lot of beer pounding at mccoys or 75th st to equal 60 bucks, holy crap that's expensive.  the inside reminded me of some fancy ass, and it was dimly lit and full of people in business suits who were trying very hard to look important.  now to be honest, my sons burger was huge and he said pretty tasty, the pasta was way over seasoned and tasted like it came out of a bag and the beer flight consisted of 4 budweiser rip offs, a weak dark something and a moderate/fair wheat.  i wouldn't come back for the beers, that's for sure.  the 7 dollar breadpudding was the size of my face, and tasty as well, but 7 bucks?   no thanks.

all in all, i will never come back, the end.

Walking in to Gordon Biersch just excites me. The hostess is always there with a friendly smile, ready to seat me. Once I'm seated, I'm always greeted by a waiter or waitress very quickly. They are always polite and quick with refilling drinks. It's always clean too, which is very important to me. They have plenty of seating and TV's at the bar. They are also a microbrewery, and their beer is great. The food is always incredible. I've never had anything there that I didnt like (grilled chicken sandwhiches, pasta, asian noodles, lobster mac and cheese, burgers, etc.). Awesome place.

I had lunch here the other day with a co-worker.  I am not a big fan of the chain restaurants but this was good - I agree, not to be compared with an Applebee's at all.  I might not search another location out but would come back.  One thing to note...it is a very loud restaurant.  We had to sit very close together to continue our work conversation...I don't know how a third person at the table could have heard anything.  The service was prompt and we were in and out quickly.  The lobster and crab sandwich was very good.  My co-worker had a cheeseburger which she also said was good.

Great fish tacos.  A little on the noisy side.  Convenient downtown location in the Power and Light District.  Reliable quality and large menu.

Stunning crowds on a Friday during happy hour, but we waded through the bar area and waited about 5 minutes before some seats opened up. We sat at the outside bar but still had to deal with a bit of slow service but to the full house. We took advantage of the $1 beers and got their Hefeweizen, which was very crisp & citrusy, and Winter Bock, which was deliciously spicy with warm notes.  The beer was still ~5$ on special & while good, it wasn't overly memorable.

We also sampled some of the food specials. We got the Asian combo with shrimp, eggrolls, and dumplings which was just ok and pretty greasy $11.  We also wanted to try the Rosemary Chicken flatbread, which they were out of but instead of  telling us, we were brought a flatbread with feta and red peppers $5. It was more dough than toppings, and I'd skip it in the future.

It's unlikely we'll be back, but in terms if happy hour in the Power & Light District, you could do worse.

I have been to many, many Gordon Biersch all over the US. The good thing is the food is standard and usually pretty good.

The BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders are d'bomb. The Kobe beef sliders are just ok, they tend to overcook them so they are dry. The potsickers are also very good as well as the garlic fries.

The Apple Mojito is EXCELLENT the regular Mojito is good.

The service is good and ok. Let me explain. They are super responsible about taking care of you if you have a food allergy so that is the good part.

The ok part is you have to ask for happy hour menus in the bar area like 5 times before they bring them over. Then when we ordered our drinks which was before happy hour ended, we got charged happy hour prices $5 each for two and regular $9 price for two. That is not right. We got our order in, before happy hour ended we should have been charged happy hour prices.

Also the checks got mixed up and had to wait for them to get fixed so paying our tabs took longer than it should have.

We were visiting family and friends who suggested we try it because of the location - I hadn't seen the Power & Light district since it opened and I moved away years ago.  I wasn't crazy about a chain when KC has so many great local places but decided to go with the group consensus.

I'm told the beer was fine (my boyfriend had the sampler to start) and my wine was as well; the atmosphere was nice and the server was attentive (on a holiday Monday night with about 4 other tables occupied).  The chips appetizer was quite yummy, the salad was good, but they lost me at the burger special. When he said we couldn't get our burger medium-rare in Kansas City, Beef Capital of the US I should have been prepared that it wasn't going to be great but it was downright awful as though made from frozen patties that were thawed in a microwave.  Tough and tasteless with lukewarm overcooked grilled asparagus on the side - plain, no sauce, no spices.

Now I'm sure I'll say no to a chain in a great foodie town.

Gordon Biersch is a chain restaurant with locations in 19 states. I visited the KC location in the Power & Light district with my mom, on the 4th of July, well after most places had stopped serving. I am generally kind of a snob about chain restaurants, but this is not your grandmother's chain - Biersch is no Applebee's, thank god!

As you might expect from a brew pub, they offer a selection of 8 different beers, done mainly  in the German tradition. What is less expected is their specialty cocktail, martini and mojito lists, as well as their "skinny cocktail" selection and their wine offerings.

I was also quite impressed that they have a free standing vegetarian menu with some interesting options. You just have to ask for it.

On the other hand, you wouldn't have to... there are plenty of options for all eating preferences on their fusion style menu and I think they even have gluten free suggestions.

I passed up many items I was intrigued by and went for the Lobster and Jumbo Lump Crab Cake Sandwich. It was superb. Little filler, lots of crab and lobster. It ranks up there with the best I've ever eaten. I also really enjoyed their garlic fries on the side and the sandwich is much lower priced than the same cakes as an entree.

i look forward to going back repeatedly to see if the quality of food and service holds up to my first visit.

I was in town to watch my son play in the wood bat tournament.  So we stopped by the power and light district and while walking around spotted a few bars to check out.  We choose Gordon Biersch and how nice.

We were greeted by the bar tender who was very informative and even made sure we knew the specials.  I'm not sure if he stepped on the waitress toes but she had a sure attitude when she brought our menu's and our friend was at the bar ordering drinks.  Either way the bartender took care of us and I was glad she did not.

    Here is what we ordered..

I had Jerk Chicken Sliders w/ fruit salsa on top.  Yeah right, so I asked for the salsa on the side.  My sandwich came with a spiced mayo, I don't like mayo but it was not that bad.. would have been nice to know before hand.  I tasted the salsas and it was good, so I finally added it to my sandwich and WOW was I surprised, it was amazing and honestly I sit here thinking I'd like to go back there.  My side was onion straws, I'm a sucker for onion straws and they were amazing!

My one friend ordered jerk chicken taco's much similar to my sandwich, just with a taco shell, but they did it in a unique way, it was a hard taco surrounded by a soft taco.  FUN, he liked it and thought as I did, it was a great mixture.

My other friend ordered some sort of Southwest Egg Rolls, she's not a big meat eater and the bar tender knew this... Our only sad menu item where these egg rolls that were stuff full of meat.  He said to her "they have "SOME" chicken in it"  So when she got it, it was good and honestly if you don't mind meat, you'll love it.

We all had their beers and they were really very good.

Atmosphere was nice and I seriously will go back when I can!

Great location w/ an outdoor patio facing toward the entrance into the Power & Light courtyard w/ a view of the DJs that were performing that night and LOTS of great people-watching.  Kitchen and bar are open late, and that's all you needed to say.

Food and service were ok, but I'm come back just for the location of the outside patio.

Not impressed at all. I went with a friend before a show at the Midland. We were told that the wait for a table would be about 30 minutes, but the bar was open for immediate seating. Being that my friend and I had a deadline to make, we high tailed it for the bar. Our waitress brought menus after a few minutes, and I ordered a Schwartz beer and the chicken cashew salad. My beer took about 15 minutes to reach my table. I thought it would be worth the wait but I was wrong. The beer had zero flavor to it. When I finally got my salad, I was so disappointed to see that it had no artichoke hearts in it despite what the menu said. I ate it anyway, and would have asked my server about the hearts, but we only saw her when she took our order and dropped of our checks. I will probably give this place another
try, but it will probably be a while.

This place is like those girls who wear big sunglasses. From afar, it looks decent, maybe like you'd want to invest some time, but then you get past the dark windows, you are horribly mistaken.

It's a clean establishment and a whole star was given because of the garlic fries, but that's about as much as it had going for it.

My medium-well burger was very pink and mushy. My boyfriend's Cajun fish tacos weren't Cajun whatsoever. It came with a pathetic side of white rice and beans, which lacked in flavor. The hostess that sat us down on Saturday afternoon needed a class on eye contact. She asked us if we wanted a table or a booth, we answered booth, she put our menus down on the table all without looking at us. I think my favorite part is when she said, "Enjoy your meal" as she was walking away. Classy. Our server, on the other hand, was very nice. We were in a bit of a hurry but she assured us that the food would be out quickly as they weren't very busy. With the looks of the line of waiters/waitresses standing around it looked like the table to server ratio was 1:1. Which sounds great, but not when we hardly got any refills. We got our food in just under 10 minutes--probably because it wasn't finished cooking. I had the burger with the fried egg. The one at Bar Louie is astoundingly much better (this isn't saying much). Like I mentioned before--it was just blah. Who knew someone could mess up a burger that bad. Overpriced, under quality. I doubt I will ever go back.

I went with a group of 8 and haven't been here in a while. Yes, it's a large bar and it's attractive inside. We had a great server. I had a good drink at the bar, not beer. I'm just not a beer drinker. That's where my enthusiasm ends.

We had appetizers and dinner. The menu used to have a salad with something like an almond crusted chicken breast and had a light champagne vinagarette. That doesn't exist anymore. I had a difficult time finding just the right thing for dinner so I settled on a salmon entree that came with sauteed vegetables and rice.

The salmon was edible. Nothing exciting. The vegies were limp-ish and the rice was down-right awful. Crunchy white rice is not my thing.

I do have to say that our server wa quite good. She knew when to ask if you wanted another drink, if you were finished with your appetizer and had the order perfect.

Other than the service, I cannot say that there was much about the menu or the quality of food that would get me go come back again.

This is a great little place to go for a date, with friends, to grab a beer, sit on a patio or just relax after a long day.  I'm surprised the reviews are lacking for this place, as it is one of my favorite places to go in P&L.  They have microbrew beers, and some of the best appetizers I've ever had.

First the beer - they are good.  I wouldn't say they're the best beers on the planet, but for the price and the setting they are perfectly adequate.  I love their darker beers, although their hefeweizen is the most popular, apparently.

For appetizers, their crab and artichoke dip is the best version of the dish I've ever had.  I've ordered it probably five or six times, and have yet to tire of it!  For under ten bucks, it is really ridiculously delicious.  It's creamy, large enough to feed several people and the flavor combo is delectable.  Love it!

Their entrees have been very good, from what I've sampled.  From their pasta to their burgers, everything has been really delicious.  I've never had anything cooked poorly, and if I had received a non-satisfactory plate, I have no doubt they would remedy the situation immediately.  We once had a new waitress forget our appetizer, and so we just said we'd skip it.  They offered to bring it out anyways, free of charge, and apologized for the inconvenience.  It was really nice and curbed our annoyance quite a bit.

Annnnnd... dessert.  Oh. My. God.  We had the pumpkin cheesecake last time we were there, which was a seasonal offering, and I've never seen anything disappear faster.  Really good.

I'm a big fan of this place, and it is my go-to PNL restaurant.  I think it outclasses places like Bristol in terms of value for your money and drinks, although most Yelpies seem to disagree with me!  No bother, everyone can keep going to Bristol, et al., I will be at Gordon Biersch!!!

Probably the two favorite things that I liked about my visit to this Gordon Biersch was having the beer taster set and partaking on their dark beers. Very good! My second favorite thing is the House Chips listed in the appetizer section. The 'home made' chips have bacon and bleu cheese crumbles on them that is to die for!
The main dishes are good too! I found their salads to be very compelling.
There is a fun atmosphere at this Gordon Biersch but much of it was our waiter because of his charismatic personality but according to my friends there are lots of the waitstaff that are just as fun and vibrant!

Gordon Biersch was super busy and it was because there was a Def Leppard concert.  I would imagine this place being busy still but not like how it was when I went.  I met with 2 friends for my birthday here.  The wait was about 1 hour; however, it only took 20 minutes for us to be seated which was good.  We eventually had 3 more people show up, too.

I only ordered the Gordon Biersch Garlic Fries ($5.95) and a Hefeweizen  because I was still full from a HUGE lunch which I had a couple hours earlier.  I wasn't feeling well and it's probably because of the huge birthday lunch I gave myself as well as the nasty beer prior to this.  When the other 3 people showed up, they all forced me to drink and I wasn't feeling very good.  I know my limit and I was about to go over that.  I can say that it was the worst birthday I've ever had and I'll leave it at that.  BTW, the whole worst birthday thing had no influence on the rating I gave this place.

The food came and it was nothing special in my opinion.  I've had Gordon Biersch Garlic Fries before in California so they were pretty much the same taste-wise.  The Hefeweizen was alright but it tasted slightly different from the one in California.  I didn't finish all of my fries because I was still super full from lunch so what a waste of food.  The chocolate birthday cake slice they gave me was pretty tasty; however, I still wasn't feel good at that point.  I slowly ate at it and eventually finished it.

The service was a little slow but it was because this place was packed.  Our waitress was nice and came by every once in awhile to fill up our glasses of water and to ask if we needed anything.

    A-OK.

I met up with a group of friends here one night for dinner.  We picked it randomly, as the area near the Sprint Center was hopping due to a concert that night.  It happened to be the only place we could find with immediate seating.

This is a brewery, so I opted for their Summer Ale, which was decent.  None of their other beers sounded remotely interesting to me, so I just had the one.

There is hardly anything on this menu that is even remotely vegetarian aside from an appetizer or two and a pizza.  I ended up ordering the Tuscan Chicken Pasta minus the chicken.  The waitress did subtract $2 since I opted for no meat, making it $12.  It was basically a linguini dish with a sauce made of basil, balsamic vinegar and olive oil, topped with Parmesan cheese.  It was okay, but not great.

We didn't get dessert, but a member of my group decided to treat everyone to Vegas bombs.  BEWARE!  Do NOT order shots here!  The prices of the shots were itemized (i.e. the Crown, Red Bull, peach schnapps, and amaretto were charged by the ounces used).  What the heck!?  I guess people don't typically order shots here, but you'd think they'd warn us!  The shots ended up costing about $11 each because of this.  Definitely the most expensive Vegas bomb I've ever had.

Overall, the food was "meh" and the waitress was a bit slow, but this could be due to the huge crowd present.  Either way, this isn't a place I'd likely return to, unless they revamp their menu.

    Pros:
    - Good selection of beer
    - Diverse menu
    - Located in a great neighborhood

    Cons:
    - It's a chain restaurant
    - Bad service

    Other Thoughts:
It was Sunday morning and Gordon Biersch was one of the few places that was open and within walking distance from where I live. During my visit there, my party of two ordered the Cajun Pasta and the Kobe Burger. The Cajun Pasta was pretty good, however it was nothing special as it  tasted the same if you were to order it from other chain restaurants.  The Kobe Burger was pretty juicy, however, again it was nothing special.

The service that I received there was sub par, the waitress doesn't seem to be engaged to us and was rather sloppy--she poured tea instead of water into my glass and spilled it all over the table, then instead of giving me a new glass of water she poured part of the water from my glass into a nearby trashcan and poured some more water into it (my water still tasted like tea afterwards)

    Final Verdict:
Mediocre food, probably won't be returning here anytime soon

I don't know if I was just REALLY happy to be in Kansas City or if the 75 degree weather worked its way to my heart, but I had one of the best lunch experiences of my life at Gordon Biersch.

A group of eight of us were lucky enough to get a big table on the outdoor patio and our service was fabulous. The beer menu is to die for, and while I opted for the lightest beer possible, a few friends got the beer sampler that came with five different kinds (which I was jealous of and will do next time.) The cocktails were also all very fresh and perfect for a sunny Saturday in the Power & Light District.

I had the sliders for an appetizer and I can't say enough good things about them. As for my lunch, the picture says it all. Does it get better than that for a light lunch? I had the hummus & goat cheese salad with grilled chicken and it was PERFECT. I also heard lots of "yums" coming from the people who ordered the chicken & avocado sandwich.

The atmosphere is happy & lively, they have ANY drink you want, and the food is ridiculously good. I can't wait to lunch here again when I'm back in KC!

The power and light district is KC is chocked full of great places, but if you're looking for a diverse and well sized menu this is the place to go. I had the fish tacos and they were awesome. They had options between shrimp, talapia, or scallop tacos. I also sampled the seasonal ice bock, which was delicious.

The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable and you feel like you're the only ones in the place even if someone is sitting 5 feet from you.

The prices were fair across the board from the apps to the entrees and even the bar prices were right on track.

Service was ok, our waiter wasn't inattentive but he wasn't always around. Good enough to really not notice.

Overall a good location amongst many good locations.

Came here to have dinner and a brew and boy is their menu huge! I assure you will find something on the menu that suits your fancy at Gordon Biersch.

The food we had was good. The Kobe burger rocked and their garlic fries are so deliciously different from your normal tasting fries. The beer selection is their house brews and I tried the seasonal beer. For winter it was called Ice Bock and it was awesome! I highly recommend it and think they should serve it year round!

The place was very packed as it was a Saturday night and the playoff football games, but it was to be expected. The service was good despite the large crowds. They have a nice sized patio to enjoy during the summer months.

I recommend Gordon Biersch to anyone visiting the Power and Light District!

For a Power & Light joint, this is one of the better restaurants to choose from.  When faced with LET'S EAT TONS OF MEAT options like Famous Daves, Ted Montana's, and Chophouse, Gordon Biersch offers a nice variety for anyone in your dining party.

There's a generous bar area and outside patio looking out into KCLive, and the restaurant itself is nice, clean, and plentiful with the booths.  I've been here several times and have never been anxious about bringing visitors.

I don't eat a lot of meat so thankfully their menu offers lots of options.  And if you want anything changed, it's all made from scratch and fresh in the kitchen so feel free to alter dishes to your liking.  Last night I ordered the lobster and shrimp mac & cheese minus the lobster and shrimp.  It was delicious!  And they adjusted the price to reflect the missing seafood.

Their pizzas are pretty tasty, but too large for one person.  I always take half home with me for lunch the next day.  Garlic fries are delicious!  More tasty non-meat selections: tapas, hummus and goat cheese salad, ravioli in butter and roasted pine nut sauce, rigatoni, and I've also asked for most of the pasta dishes without meat in them.  They're very accommodating!

The service is always very helpful and friendly.  And if you have special requests for big parties, just give them a call before you go and they'll get you taken care of.

Couldn't decide what to eat while walking around downtown KC.  I decided to go to Gordon Biersch since there was outdoor seating and I figure I could grab a burger and fries.

Last time I was at a GB, I was in Arizona and I watched almost an entire Sunday's worth of NFL games starting from 10am. That's right, I was drinking beer at 9:30 and it was acceptable. At least by me.

This time, there will be no beer since it was lunch and I had to get back to a client.  Also, no more outdoor seating unless I wanted to wait.  I didn't.

I had my heart set on a burger until I saw the octoberfest menu.
The wienerschnitzel was good. I had every last crumb off the plate.
Only complaint was that there were flies flying around the place and I didn't get a refill on my arnold palmer.

I loved eating at Gordon Biersch back when I lived in Orange County.  Then I moved out of Orange County and consequently stopped eating there because I found it difficult to justify a commute of 3,200 miles, no matter how good their garlic fries are.

The KCP&L location is consistently enjoyable, offering a wide selection of food and their own microbrews (they have a great hefeweizen).  Be careful not to arrive when there's a big conference in downtown Kansas City, as the attendees seem to flow into here like a broken urinal.  A friend and I were eating there a few months ago, and within minutes the restaurant was filled with thousands of shrieking 40-year old housewives wearing identical black t-shirts from some corporation that recruits you to sell jewelry from your home.  Like, oh my god Susan, did you like see Nicky's new minivan?!?  Oh-em-gee, it's like totally like double-you, tee, eff!  Want to buy some cubic zirconia sunflower earrings?!?

I disagree with all the naysayers.  First of all, the bar is huge and the beer selection is fair.  When we first walked in, I heard joy, laughter, and people having a great time.  That is a good first sign.

The hostess sat us promptly.  The server was there quickly and took our drink orders.  The beer selection was fair.  I ordered the Marzen.  It was delicious.

I ordered a side salad to come out first and it was good.  But it was not, however, worth $5.95!  I got the southwest chicken sandwich and garlic fries.  The presentation was not your typical brewery.  I felt like I was in a fine dining establishment (as far as the presentation and ambiance goes).  The sandwich was fabulous and had a great amount of spice and some fresh red peppers.  The garlic fries were amazing.  They can be one of those "craving foods" in a flash.

The server was funny and quick.  The prices surprised me though.  The beer was reasonable at $5 a pop.  The sandwich was $13 and the side salad was 6.  I paid for myself and my total was 27 with a tip.  Now this is slightly off putting.

All in all, it was a good meal to have at a nice clean place with my friends.  Good times.

I've been to this location three times, the last time under duress because that is where the group wanted to go.  It's best performance was a business lunch on a beautiful spring day when I had a passable but very ordinary mahi mahi sandwich.  Once I had the spinach salad with grilled chicken.  The salad came out drenched in dressing without the chicken -- I think I got double dressing, no chicken.  When I pointed it out to the waitress, she seemed annoyed at the kitchen and told me she would bring the chicken right out.  10 minutes later I got steaming grilled chicken that I suspect may have been microwaved because the temperature was uneven.  I don't remember what I had the other visit but it was not memorable.

I have tried several of their beers and found them to be unimpressive.  The stout is just putrid.  My basic opinion of this place is that it is a glorified Applebee's with bad homemade beer.  I have been to the Vegas location (which I think may be the original) several times with better luck but it still a basic chain restaurant with pre-packaged food.  Downtown KC has so many better options, I just don't get how this place fits in.  I guess it is a good place for tourists going to P&L.

Let's start off with the reasons why you should come here:
    They brew their own beer.
The staff is very attentive and friendly.
You can eat outside right by the courtyard where a lot of action is typically going on. Like people watching?
You can earn points for eating here by joining their membership club (costs $20, but they send you a $20 dinner gift certificate), so it's a bit better than a wash if you LIKE EATING OR DRINKING HERE.
Non-alcoholic drinks are yummy like the strawberry mint lemonade or the arnold palmer. Both bottomless.
Don't forget to get your parking VALIDATED!

    Why NOT to eat here:
There were 2 mahi mahi sandwiches on the menu. I asked for their opinion. They told me go with the one with the remoulade. It was a gross nasty sauce. The fish didn't taste that great, though it was a good size piece. I think the chef who came up with that recipe should go back to school. The garlic fries. Well, yeah, did wonders for my breath. I'm sure my coworkers appreciated that.

I lived in San Francisco for most of my life. Who would have thought my first experience with Gordon Biersch would be in Kansas City, MO? How ironic.

Gordon Biersch is one of the hotter spots in the Power & Light District of Kansas City. It's great fun for the college kids, older crowd and is even a family friendly environment. The restaurant is pretty huge and has a full house. Surprisingly, my party of nine walked right in and sat at a big table at the bar. The service was super fast and our waitress was very attentive.

I'm not a huge fan of beer but found an extensive drink list for anyone who fancies everything else but the beer. Nice! I started my evening with a Cran Bluberi Lemonade. Good stuff. Tasty and not too strong even though the vodka did hit.

For appetizers we had the Housemade Chips, Southwest Egg Rolls, and Crispy Artichoke Hearts. I liked them all. The Housemade Chips were like potato skins from Round Table (shut up) but really thin and more like potato chips. They were drizzled with bleu cheese and bacon! The Southwest Egg Rolls were a bit spicy but a nice second runner up to the avocado rolls at The Cheesecake Factory. The Crispy Artichoke Hearts turned out so good that we ordered a second platter. Battered and flavored with parmesan cheese, they were better than calamari!

For my main dish I had the steak frites cooked medium rare. My steak was red but still slightly chewy. Perhaps it was not the best cut of steak. Also, I substituted my fries for garlic fries. I couldn't wait. It was going to be just like the ball park. I ended up being a disappointed in the fries because they hardly put any garlic on them compared to when at the baseball games. Oh well. I didn't feel too stinky that night but in the morning whew that aftermath was nasty. I had to chew gum after brushing my teeth for the 100th time.

Gordon Biersch is way better than Pyramid Brewery hands down.

Ok, so maybe I'm a bit biased since I waitress here a couple nights a week. BUT, I believe that from a foodie standpoint, I can write a good review. Gordon Biersch is right by the Power & Light outdoor stage downtown, only a block away from the sprint center. If you like german food with an international twist, then Gordon Biersch is a great place to try. The specialties include garlic fries (which are made with fresh garlic cloves- so make sure you like garlic before ordering them), and home-brewed beer, which is made on the premises. There are 5 different kinds and one seasonal always on tap, and you can get a sampler of all 6 for $6 (a 4 oz glass of each type). Each one definitely has it's own flavor and everyone definitely has a favorite.

Everyone who is hired at Gordon Biersch has to complete a rigourous week-long training class, where you are tested everyday about the menu, beers, seating plan, and 'steps of service'. So, needless to say, the servers are very knowledgable about the food and the beers, and love to answer questions about anything. Everything in the restuarant (except for 2 menu items) are made completely from scratch right there in kitchen and I believe that you can tell from the flavor of the food. It's very filling and the wide variety of food (southwest chicken egg rolls, sausage meat loaf, ribs covered in a BBQ sauce made from one of our beers) leaves everyone with a lot of options.

Food I would recommend: Carrot Cake, Bread Pudding, Marzen Ribs, Gargonzola Pear salad, Southwest Chicken egg rolls, housemade chips

While it is a little pricey for those looking to eat on the cheap (at least $15/person for an entree), GB is great about splitting up entrees (for free!). There also is happy hour every night from 4-7 in  the bar and outdoor seating areas that offers $5 appetizers (except for those with seafood) and $4 pints of the beer (it is usually $5). Happy Hour is always really busy and usually the restuarant is filled with business-professional types just getting off work and good-looking couples who are out on a date. However, there's no dress code and unless you walk in in Seasame Street pajamas, you'll be welcomed with open arms.

    Not so impressed.

Our server was perfectly nice and funny, even though it took about 10 minutes for him to realize we were there.  It's fine, I understand that working on the patio can be tough and at least we had nice weather to enjoy.

Pickings were slim for a vegetarian, and even slimmer when I was told they were out of pizzas and would be for the next few days.  How does that happen?  I chose one of their summer menu options, a roasted vegetable pasta.  It was tasty enough, although a little on the salty side (and I am NOT afraid of salt)...I could have easily made this dish at home for a lot less than the $12 it cost me there, but at least I had enough leftovers for lunch the next 2 days.

All in all, I'm not sure I'll be back.  Average food, friendly enough service and retardedly overpriced food.  We'll see.

Having gone to the one in San Francisco a couple times, I went to the new location in the P&L hoping the food and beer would be as good.  I knew the ambiance wouldn't quite be the same, as the one in SF is very open and looks out onto the bay.  KC can't quite match that view.

The food was pretty dang good at lunch when I went, and the place was pretty crowded but no wait, so perfect.  The Hefeweizen was just as I remembered, delicious and a light, summer-y beer.

The pizza my friend had and the sandwich I had were both good and the prices were reasonable.  I'm looking forward to checking it out at night sometime and enjoying the patio and open-air atmosphere.

This review is based on the VIP opening last night.

I have been to one of these before, but it was in Vegas and it was about 8 years ago.

The KC space is fairly large.  There is a raised level in the middle used for restaurant seating.  The main bar is in the back and behind the bar is a set of garage doors that can be raised to serve customers outside.  I imagine there will be tables set up out there in the spring.

Anyway, this place was majorly packed, but i think the staff did an excellent job handling the crowd.  Appetizers being served during the party.  I noticed chicken wings, pizza, ahi on a wonton crisp, garlic fries, shrimp and fried artichokes.  What I actual was able to get was the pizza and ahi, both had great flavor.

I am not sure how things will go when it officially opens.  What they seem to have mastered is handling crowds and working as a team.  They have a kitchen that knows how to handle pressure.   As long as their product (beer/food) remain quality, they will be OK.
