Nice African-American lounge highlighted by hip-hop karaoke. Didn't have to sushi but they did have a nice bar selection. By no means ghetto, very clean and a little stylish.

I've only been to Mixx on Wednesdays....and only will probably go on Wednesdays. I've heard that the vibe of this place changes completely on the weekends.

They have a great half off sushi special and $5 happy hour. Both the drinks and food are pretty good.  However, the service is slow and seating is scarce.

Also, there is live music by Natural Progression, a neo-soul cover band, on Wednesdays.

You take a little bit of Main
And a whole lot of Sushi
Add it up together in OTR
And here's what you're gonna do
You gotta Mixx it up quick
And it'll blow up on this spot
I got a tell ya' that the place is getting hot
    (311 Mix It Up)

Mixx Ultra Lounge (the original Ultra Lounge in Cincinnati) has perhaps the worse website in Cincinnati. Any website that takes 45 seconds to get through the intro without giving me an option to bypass it poor in my opinion.

But enough about their website and onto their physical site. I have only been here once for a friends party. We had one of the rooms in the back right behind the stage. The service was very good and the apps and sushi we had was good likewise. It was karaoke night and some of the singers were absolutely horrible, but they were having fun and that is what really matters. I sipped on my girlfriends Mojito which was tasty. Not sure this would be a usual spot for me, but definitely would not object to going here if others wanted to.

DO NOT HAVE A PARTY HERE!!! OR RENT OUT A SECTION VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Well i am go get straight to the point I was throwing someone i knew a party here. I had no one i can talk to except the owner and he never had time to talk about my party until i was giving up money for the party. There was one time i called the owner and he hung up on me and had some one else that worked down there call me back. SO THE DAY OF THE PARTY  I had to contact the owner once again to see what time i can come down to bring decorations and cake because i was never told a time i can come down to set up. So me and the owner had discussed what time my guests were going to be arriving so when that time came i got a call from him asking where am i at, EXCUSE ME WHAT AM I PAYING U AND THE WAITRESS FOR! He never told me i had to be down there when my guest arrived. So then i arrived and i noticed automatically a problem the SECTION I RENTED OUT MY GUESTS WAS NOT SITTING AT THEY WERE SITTING IN ANOTHER SECTION! I was not informed that  my guests was going to be sitting somewhere else so i was pissed! i paid for the stage and some one was sitting in my shit! So i kept calling the owner and he finally picked up we talked and he would not give me my SECTION I PAID FOR because i was late what type of shit is that when my guests was down there on time, he did it on purpose and again i was not informed on the change so then i called him unprofessional and told him i will never do business with him again in a polite way and he got straight offended and called me a b***h! AND THEN TOLD ME HE WAS ABOUT TO PUT EVERYONE OUT! So he started all this drama so i gave it to him and we was still in his club . But i end up pulling myself together that night brushed it off my shoulders cause i did pay my MONEY but it was a terrible experience i would not recommend my worst enemy to go through what i went through because when you paying your money you expect for it to go right not terribly wrong! Its so much more I dealt with but this review will be 3 pages! I would not recommend it to any one find somewhere else to have a party.

    Mixx is not for me.

It's really popular with the club set, which is not my thing. So, you ask--why did you go there?

Well my friend, I will go almost anywhere with a sign that says "half-priced Happy Hour". So I went there. It was half-priced, so that was nice...but the drinks tasted like punch with alcohol--kind of sticky-sweet with a kick. Not really what I want to drink with sushi, but it was my fault for ordering it. The other stuff was your basic bar food, nothing to write home about. I think if you like pumping music and darkness and that type of thing, you might want to try it out. Otherwise, I can recommend about 97 places before this one.

Great vibe and good feel. You get patted down but necessary for security. Weed was in the air and made the wife feel uncomfortable so we left quickly.

I was introduced to Mixx Ultra Lounge by a former coworker to whom I am forever grateful.

Mixx is my go-to happy hour spot.  From 4 - 7 weekdays and 4 - 9 Fridays, the sushi - prepared by sushi guru Tron - is half priced. The sushi is the Americanized sort - sauces, cream cheese, tempura - but delicious. My favorite is the tempura salmon roll. Happy hour also includes drink specials. Go for the $6 mojito, sizable and available in strawberry, raspberry, cherry, or mango.

My only complaint is that the music (usually spun by a DJ) is far too loud. I usually go between the hours of 5 & 9, which in my opinion is too early for blaring music.

Mixx opened under delays and shaky kitchen reviews, but quickly became noticed for its nightlife/sushi. Jump forward to Taste of Cincinnati '09. The catfish and white chicken chili impressed me, making Mixx's booth a favorite. Before a show at Aronoff, I tested the menu under their own roof. Free evening parking was available two blocks south on Court Street. Greeted warmly and loved the new york chic atmospherics. Enjoyed strong discounted drinks and half price sushi without a hidden sushi surcharge. Sushi was not perfect, but still very yummy... and at an amazing value when you make it before 7pm for happy hour. For dinner, I veered away from southern inspired dishes for Grilled Tandoori Chicken with green beans. Full of flavour! Surprisingly reasonable prices... a welcome change and a welcome pay off for testing a new place.

You talk about badddd service from the beginning to the end....Paid in advance for a so called VIP table and never got it...waitresses were very rude acted as if they were mad because they had to work....The so called artist that they claim would be there, never showed up...waited 3 hours and the owner kept making excuses as to why the artist hadn't arrived yet...I visit all types of nightclubs all over the world and let me tell you, this by far ranks no. 1 on my DO NOT VISIT list...If this place doesn't hurry up and find out the true definition of customer service, they won't be around too much longer....Spoke to the owner and expressed my displeasure and he assured me he would give me a refund...still waiting to see if that happens....

I first learned about Mixx a couple of years ago at the taste of Cincinnati. We tried their Crab Salad, and for weeks following I would suddenly get crab salad cravings.

There is a strong African-American community here. Wednesday is a great day to try out their sushi since happy hour is all day. Otherwise it just goes from 4-7pm. Get there early for a good seat at the bar- the food comes faster that way.

I am a big fan of their strawberry mojitos which are only $6 bucks if you go during Happy Hour and very strong, and taste great too. Also, a lot of their food and sushi is half off during this time. Crab salad is an always, OTR fries are a must try, and their crunch munch roll is delicious as well. But you can't really go wrong with their sushi.

For sure come for Happy Hour and have the Half off sushi.  Some really fun and tasty special rolls.  The Music is lound here so be warned.  Trendy place to drink.  Be sure to check out the VIP room on the 1st floor in the back.  Pricey otherwise.

My review may seem a little bias because I've known the owners since we were in high school, but this is hands down my favorite after-work spot.  Cincinnati rush hour traffic is the worst, so I often come here, meet friends and socialize until it dies down.  They also have a rentable 3rd floor for private functions that's open and spacious.  This review wouldn't be complete without mention of their award winning sushi bar.  It is one of the best in the city.  I love this place!

    great sushi.

    HORRIBLE service.

We went here for a friend's birthday--7 of us total.  We sat 10 minutes to get water, no one gave us drinks menus.  Someone finally came to take our order (about the 3rd person to stop by our table), but she knew nothing about the menu.

No one refilled out waters, no one took our dirty appetizer plates away.  Because of all the dirty dishes stacked up, I accidentally knocked a dirty salad plate on the ground that splashed everywhere.  Everyone looked up, no one came to pick it up for 25 minutes.  If someone had been checking on us, they might have noticed.  The server came over and slipped in it and fell onto me and didn't apologize, just yelled to some bus boy to get the dirty tableclothes (that's right, no one ever came with a mop and bucket).  Again, no one took our dirty plates.  Charged us 20% gratuity for shitty service for our medium-size party, then accidentally charged one guys tab $80 instead of $17.

We were annoyed--I asked to speak to the manager and guess who shows up--the OWNER--our horrible server.  She just made excuses, didn't apologize, and just said "i hope you don't hold it against us".

There was hardly anyone in the restaurant...  No excuse for such horrible service.  The sushi was amazing, but not good enough for me to come back.

If you come here, don't take one step past the sushi bar in the front.  The sushi chef is amazing, but everyone in the place seems to be an incompetent ass.

We went to this place on a suggestion from friends. Sushi is a weakness of mine and the chef worked mercilessly on mine, much to my delight!  Friday at happy hour was the time rolled into the place. It's got a lively crowd with a hip urban flare. The music was provided by a live DJ who was familiar with his tools.  Be warned, there can be a wait to get in and posted notice about sushi delivery times (there is apparently one sushi chef, and boy do the patrons LOVE sushi!).

On to the food!  We didn't want to wait for 45 min in order to get a table. So we lucked up and caught two spots at the sushi bar. Good move! The advantage is that you can order off the regular menu as well. We ordered the Mixx Triple where you pick 3 of your favorites among several choices. They had these wings that were in what tastes like honey infused with Chile   oil. Damn they were good!  Sorry for that, but they were dynamite!  That held us over because the wait on the sushi was about 45-50 minutes. Trust me, the chef was working overtime! Good guy, but they need 2 of those guys.  We ordered Ebi (shrimp), crab stick, Unagi (eel), shrimp tempura roll and an amazing house creation called a "Downtown Roll". Okay, the name doesn't do it justice by any stretch of the imagination but it was a dream.

Basically, it was spicy tuna, crab, avocado, cream cheese in a roll that appears to be in a tempura outer shell.  Yes, they tempura the entire roll! Great stuff!  We ordered a LOT of sushi... Why?  Because sushi & appetizers are 50% off from 5-7pm. And it was pretty safe to say that this was my best overall sushi experience. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was gooood. I hope this place sticks around for a long time so I can get back here.

Mixx is a very urban restaurant which turns into a night club later in the evening. They have half price apps and sushi M-F 4-7. The drinks are a good pour and the DJ is spinning music throughout dinner. The sushi is amazing, BUT it takes forever to get especially during happy hour. I have waited 45 mins for two rolls of sushi. When management asked how are meal tasted, I informed him of our long wait. He sent over a round of drinks on the house which was very nice of him. I also recommend the mini burgers with the amazing mixx sauce and the coconut chicken tenders.

Working in OTR, I've watched a number of businesses open up with a bang and then quickly fizzle in the past few years (Vinyl, Jardin, Ocho Rios, etc). So, I was understandably apprehensive about Mixx Ultra Lounge which opened up in the former Jump space, especially because I believed it was being run by the same people who had driven Vinyl and Jardin into a ditch. However, Mixx is apparently under the ownership and management of a different group of people... folks who seem to know how to run a restaurant.

We headed over for lunch, hoping to get some sushi (which I had heard was very good), but unfortunately no sushi chef on staff during the day. We were disappointed, but decided to stick it out. We were rewarded with solid, moderately-priced food.

The turkey burger, summer salad, and the "mixx" appetizer platter (sliders, wings, catfish nuggets) were all carefully prepared and pretty tasty. Service was friendly and attentive, although there was only one other table. The ambiance is kinda clubby, but the floor to ceiling windows help the place breathe.

I'll reserve my kudos until I try the sushi. But for now, I give Mixx three stars. It's s a good, but not great, lunch option for workers in OTR and north downtown.

This new sushi bar, restaurant, and late night lounge just opened in Over-the-Rhine on Main Street and seriously, you've got to check this place out!

First of all, the place is just gorgeous. There is a DJ booth and a fountain to your right when walk in , an open sushi bar with all the ingredients displayed to your left, and tall two floor ceilings above you. There are tables throughout the first floor, on many levels, some levels contain couches that look over the room. It really screams modern decor.

The owner saw that it was our first time there and gave us the grand tour of the building. The building had five floors total, and he's finished three of them including a balcony out back. They are all decorated with a different style. The second floor has a huge section of the floor cut out of it (where the tall ceilings are downtairs) and has it's own bar and DJ booth. There is an old elevator and a new elevator. Inside the old elevator on the second floor is a little couch. The elevator doors even still close! The third floor is more of a private party rental area, it has a pool table and cute little couches. All of this furniture and couches he makes himself up on the 4th and 5th floors where he will eventually make more party space.

Ok, now onto the food. Seriously people, I can honestly say this is the best sushi I have ever had. And I can say that after living in San Francisco, Chicago, and Boston. I ordered a philadelphia roll which is now my second favorite sushi combination (salmon, avocado, and cream cheese) and then for the first time had tempura fried sushi. They make the sushi with some posh ingredients, and then tempura fry the whole roll! It was heaven!!! You don't need any soy sauce or wasabi it's so flavorful!

Now the best part of my visit was that it was happy hour. I'm pretty sure it's Tuesdays-Fridays from 5-7pm, all sushi is half off, there are drink specials, and half off certain appetizers. This happy hour made it SO affordable. After ordering 5 rolls between my boyfriend and myself and two drinks, the whole meal was only about $30 after tip!!!

I call that affordable, hip, and yummy food!

The other good thing about this place is that everyone dining in the restaurant is so diverse. There were all sorts of shapes, sizes, and colors in the restaurant. I like seeing this in Over-the-Rhine more than anywhere else.
