I have been a fan of this place since high school. The interior is pretty small but they use the space in an innovative way. Best time to come here is for lunch on a random day. Dinner hours tend to get extremely crowded.
They have something for everyone, even people who are picky eaters. For appetizers the Tom Kha soup is great, really rich. I usually get the pineapple fried rice with chicken for an entree. I know that the curry dishes are also amazing.
I've been meaning to post this, check it out... For 2013 readers of Columbus Alive voted Nida's Thai on High the city's BEST ASIAN RESTAURANT for the 3rd consecutive year! Â Congrats Nida!!! Â Like all of the other voters you're my favorite Thai and Asian restaurant too. I love dining and drinking here any day or night of the week. Â I only wish you were open on Sundays! Â All of your food and the cocktails ROCK!!!

I really don't understand the high reviews for this place. Perhaps it's because I haven't been to their happy hour, which everyone seems to talk about in their reviews. Nevertheless, my one time at Nida's was underwhelming (and that may actually be a nice way to put it). This only experience I had at Nida's was for Friday Lunch. I arrived with a group of 6-7 right at opening time so we were the first and only customers for a good 10-15minutes after our orders had been placed. Since it was our first time there, we asked the server for recommendations and all she could come up with was "uhh the Pad Thai is good" followed by *pointing to the most expensive thing on the menu*.. whatever that was. The food was slow to come out.. and it's not like they attempted to deliver all 6-7 entrees at the same time.
The atmosphere at Nida's is not bad hence the 2-stars. My friends who ordered cocktails said that they were pretty strong (perhaps a little too much so.. eg a cocktail should include more than just the liquor itself, or else it is just a larger-than-normal shot)
Where Nida's is lacking and thus the reason for the low rating is in its pricing and food. The food is non-authentic, certainly overly-sweet. Furthermore, portions are meager- everyone at my table felt unsatisfied at the end of the meal despite having ordered entrees, appetizers and soup. This is all with the added fact that entrees here are EXPENSIVE.
I simply don't understand why this restaurant is rated so highly and why it seems as though they have return customers. Maybe I need to go experience their happy hour, but until I do, if i want crappy Thai food, I think I'll go with Tai's Bistro on Lane Ave (not saying that they're worthy of any more stars or my business). But at least with Tai's I'll get a larger portion of equally crappy Thai food for a cheaper price.
Having worked next to a Thai restaurant for 7 years, I never really had the need to seek out thai food. Now, having moved, I wanted to try Nida's. We met some friends for happy hour. Their happy hour specials are decent. Discounted apps and drinks. I really enjoyed the Thai Iced tea (not on special). Our waitress was nice and explained things as needed.
I ordered my favorite Tom Kah Gai soup. The guys ordered sushi and my friend got a curry and we got some apps. The sushi was fine, the edamame was fine, the spring rolls, were fine. The Tom Kah Gai was lame. It was very thin broth, barley any veggies, and not much galanga or lemongrass flavor. It was very delecate comapred to what I am used to. So, therefore, I was disappointed. Plus it was $7.50 (or something like that) and I just didn't think it measured up.
In the end everything was OK, but I'll just go back to Nong's for my Tom Kah.
I dunno.
I've been here four times under four different circumstances including business lunch, take out, and dinner date. Every visit has been underwhelming. It's not the service. That's fine. Drink menu is great. Environment is good... but the food? It's just not up to par.
Their food is overpriced and disappointing at times. I just can't go back to this place to spend another $20.00 on food that is small in portion size, not that spicy, and has undercooked vegetables. It just isn't worth it to me. Â Columbus may not be LA or New York but there are plenty of places to get decent Thai for literally half the price of Nida's. As for their sushi, again... there's way better both in the Short North and out in the burbs.
When I ask for food to be Thai spicy, I expect it to hurt, at least a little. Nida's is the ONLY Thai restaurant I've been to where the food is not spicy, I would go so far as to say it's even bland.
Staggered down here for Thai when I was in town for a convention at the nearby convention center. Â Had to wait a bit for a table due to how busy it was, and the food was sorta slow coming out of the kitchen, but it was worth it. Â I ate every freaking morsel of my food, and a some of my two companion's food as well. Â While a touch on the slow side, the server was very friendly, and got everyone's order perfect. Â I had a curry which she recommended, and it was outstanding. Â I would come back here in a heartbeat if I lived in Columbus.
Review Source:I love this place, which is saying a lot since I tend to not like "fusion" places. Â They have really good pad thai for an Ohio place, as I have found lots of pad thai recipes in Columbus to be nasty. Â I also liked their Gang Garee yellow curry, which is also easy to mess up in Ohio. Â Sometimes I go for their happy hour specials which are $3 appetizers and sushi rolls. Â It's not my favorite place for sushi, but it's a good deal for happy hour! Â I've also ordered the Thai iced tea there, which is delicious, so I'd recommend that to those who have never tried Thai iced tea before!
Review Source:Nida's Thai on High gets such great reviews I thought I'd try it. Â I loved the atmosphere of the place, however I was disappointed with the food. Â It was more expensive than what I usually prefer to pay and it wasn't the greatest Thai I've ever had. Â It was good but for the price I would have liked it to be more than just acceptable.
The place is very popular so it was crowded but we were seated relatively quickly. The portion size was average so it left me feeling full and satisfied but there were no left overs to take home.
Overall, I think I'd go there again with a friend if they wanted but I'm not sure I'd seek it out on my own anymore.
Such a lovely place. It was hard to find fault with it. We had a party of five and lucked out, snagging the table by the window, practically the last table in the restaurant. I had the seat facing the door, and for most of the meal, I was busy trying not to feel bad for the people who had to wait.
Our group included a gluten-free person, and both she and I (with my complicated diet) were able to find plenty to choose from, all clearly labeled and described in detail. The server was helpful with every question we asked -- giving us a "probably" answer, going into the back to make sure, returning with a "yup, right the first time" confirmation.
I don't remember what everyone ordered, but it was a huge variety -- from animal-free to carnivorous -- and no one had a complaint. I know that for my part, I ordered a sushi appetizer and a Thai tofu curry for my entree. I know that the sushi hit the spot and the curry hit even more of them. I know that we passed around glasses with interesting-sounding drinks that didn't taste nearly as strong as they felt. I know that some plates were eaten clean, while others were so weighted down with food that there wasn't a hope of finishing them.
I'd like to come back for lunch some time and take advantage of the lunch prices for this great food.
We ate at Nida's tonight for the first time and I'll definitely be going back. Here's what I loved:
- The atmosphere is nice and great decor. All the tables are situated in a way that you're not sitting too close to someone else (which is distracting to me).
- Friendly waiter!
- Delicious food.
- They mark what items are gluten-free (yay!)
- They also offer sushi.
I hear their lunch specials are phenomenal. I'll need to go there soon for that. Our dinner was a bit pricey for the portion size. For 2 spring rolls and two meals, we spent $44.
A vegetarian's retreat! We had been there twice and we have tried dishes in all categories from appetizers to desserts and everything tasted wonderful! What was really surprising is the sheer variety of vegetarian dishes they had yet all of them tasted really good! There's no other Thai restaurant that I know of which have this many signatures dishes that all taste good! If I had to nitpick one thing and crib about it is that veggies in the soup and main courses aren't diced as well one would like. Some of them like the carrots and bell peppers are cut in such big sizes that it really takes it away from the pleasure of enjoying the food! Otherwise everything else is great! Definitely a
Must try at least once restaurant!
Brace yourself.
You're about to order the best pad thai you've ever had.
Here's the thing. Going out to eat can really be a crap shoot. I've had my share of bad meals. I've suffered through them. Grumbled about it when I left. And then left a less than stellar review.
None of these things apply to Nidas.
I've never had a cup of vegetable soup that I raved about while I was eating it, after it was gone, and while I was paying. I mean, it's soup! But it's soooooooooo good.
I've had the pad thai on two occasions. Great both times.
Everyone else at my table ordered a variety of things I can't pronounce, but each of them loved what they had.
Also, great service! Which can make or break a good meal.
I'd go back. And maybe next time I'll be more adventurous.
I had been looking for an awesome Thai place since I moved from home, and the only place that I've had awesome Thai food was Thai 9 back in Dayton, Ohio. So, I was going to compare any Thai restaurant to that automatically.
While this place is in an awesome location (Short North), that can also be its downfall. Everyone who has been to the Short North on a busy day knows that it is hell to try and find decent parking. What makes matters worse is this place is somewhat cramped inside.
There is no waiting area for people who need to be seated. So, if its raining (which it did the day I first visited) or anything else, you better have an umbrella or enjoy standing there looking a mess before you get a table.
The service is pretty friendly, however with the music blasting its impossible to hear them. They have a very diverse menu and have decent portions. The one thing that bothered me was their rankings of "spice."
We were told to pick a spice level between 1-5, 5 being the highest. Since I like my food spicy, I picked a 4, just to be a bit safe. My date picked a 3, since he's not horribly fond of spiciness.
3 was pretty bland and 4 was not spicy at all. Next time, I'll ask for a 5 and see if they can add more to it. If I'm getting Thai, it better make me tear up when I eat it.
It also took a long time for the food to arrive. About a good 30 minutes.
The place is pretty good, but they need to iron some kinks out. Looks like Thai 9 is still king in my book.
Want good Thai in Columbus? Then Nida's is your place!
A friend and I showed up for dinner on a Saturday night, and although they were busy, we were able to find seating at the bar.
The bartender was super-attentive and extremely friendly. Our drinks were strong and delicious, but I found myself still wanting to run down the street to Mouton.
My friend got sushi (Spicy Thai and Heart Attack), and here are her thoughts:
"It tasted fresh, and filled me up without being heavy. The Heart Attack had fresh jalapenos that made a ton of difference. In the Spicy Thai, the spicy mayo was good, and the whole roll had a good blend of flavors. 3.5 stars."
I had Pad Thai, and this was definitely the best I've had in Columbus.
For me, Columbus is kinda lacking in the delicious Asian department, but Nida's is a real winner!
Full disclosure: my favorite Thai dish is pad Thai. I once spent three days in Bangkok and ordered pad Thai at three different restaurants, just so I could come back to the States and gauge how authentic pad Thai is at my favorite restaurants.
Nida's does a great pad Thai. I like this dish because it's sweet and spicy, and Nida's doesn't do it too sweet. I ordered my dish "medium" spicy and found it quite mild, so next time I will order it "spicy."
The service was excellent. I was there for a lunch meeting, and the waiter returned often to refill our water and just make his presence known, but he didn't interrupt when someone was talking.
I love the large window that, during hot days, opens right onto High Street. It's like dining al fresco with all of the comforts of dining inside.
I'm not sure why I haven't been to Nida's more often. I'll have to check out a few more dishes on the menu, but this place might be headed for "regular" status, like Northstar.
Having lived in Columbus during my college years, I've developed a snobby, nostalgic devotion to the High St of old, with all of its good, bad, and ugly restaurants and bars. I do love the new and improved High St and may just be bitter that I didn't have it this good, but whenever I get the chance to make it back to Columbus (which is not often), I prefer to take a trip down memory lane and hit up the old spots--no matter how terrible I realized they were--rather than try something new. Needless to say, I was not thrilled about going to Nida's Thai on High for a birthday dinner.
Boy did I have it wrong. Excellent location with the bright lights and busy streets of the Short North. Inside, the decor is modern and clean and the atmosphere cool and classy, but not snooty. Great for dates or group dinners.
As for the food... Pad Thai passed the test. All of the sushi that I saw carried out of the bar looked incredible and were impressive portions. By all accounts, the sushi ordered by our party was good. The winner for me, however, was the Thai Fried Rice. Just an amazing, amazing flavor, and definitely not your average fried rice.
I would definitely return for a dinner date or celebration dinner. Good food, great atmosphere. If you just want that cheap, fast, large portion pad thai you could smash on the go? Well, there's Joy's Village. And there's my grumpy old nostalgia. Get off my lawn.
I'm glad this place exists and it is not a bad place for a slightly fancy dinner on High. They have vaguely interesting drinks and the food isn't terrible.
But it isn't good. I'm probably spoiled, having lived in cities with "real" Thai food, but this place just doesn't have that spark that made me fall in love with Thai. Case in point: last time I went I got the Tom Kha soup with chicken, and the soup was fine, but the chicken itself was super bland. This points to rather poor kitchen practices. They must have added some chicken to the soup just before they served it -- which is okay, but then they should probably cook the chicken in SOME sort of spices or flavoring.
Yum! Â I love Nida's and am not ashamed to say I go there frequently. Â The crab rangoon are very "typical" but still a favorite appetizer. Â I typically share a couple sushi rolls with a friend (Blind Date roll is so good) or get beef pad thai. Â the portions for the pad thai are great, enough for dinner one night and lunch the next day. Â
They have fantastic mixed drinks, although it sometimes takes a bit to get them from the bar as most of their drinks take a little extra prep, so its not the fastest bar service. Â All the servers are delightful, and it snice to see Nida, and her husband, on site regularly.
I wish it was a little bigger to avoid any wait, but I like the intimate feel of the place. Â Great for a girls night, or a date. Â Highly recommend.
Okay, I am biased. I had my first date with my current boyfriend and most likely future whatever here so it has a pretty sweet spot carved out in my heart.
That being said, the food here is delicious. And for being in the short north it is SO reasonably priced it's amazing. For thai food, it is everything I love in more [which is pretty innocent when it comes to exotic things]. My boyfriend gets the Thai Fried Rice and I always get the Pad Thai. Both dishes are SO delicious. I always end up snagging bites of his. And that pad thai is some of the best in the city. Last time we went we got some dumplings as an appetizer and man, I didn't want them to end! Nice portion and price, and the dipping sauce was so good.
I love the atmosphere in this place. It is definitely an awesome date place; it is impressive yet not stuffy or snobby. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a classy night, or even a first date...if it is anything like mine you may get lucky and it'll last forever!
Nida's is a very charming place to go to dinner. The decor is fancy-ish, while managing not to be stuffy. The layout is very nice, and the restaurant is much larger than it would appear to be from the outside. This is a great place to bring out-of-town guests, have a celebratory dinner, or bring a date. There is also a full bar available.
The food is excellent. I had the pad thai, and it is definitely the best that I have had in Columbus. The portion size is excellent, and the flavors are splendid. You can choose your how spicy you want your dish in one level increments from 1-5. I have about average tolerance for spice, and I decided to go with level 4 spiciness. While the dish had some kick, it was not overwhelming, and definitely added to the flavor experience. The spring roll appetizer was also delicious, but on the pricey side. I believe it was two spring rolls for about four dollars. Â
Service was a bit on the slow side in my opinion. It took a while for someone to come take our order, and there were only a couple of other parties in the restaurant. I also noticed something on the menu that I thought was strange for a restaurant on the pricier side. You are entitled to one free refill with soft drinks. Any subsequent refills will get you an additional charge. This would be fine if the glasses in which they served the drinks were large and not mostly ice. I found the policy to be a bit of a turnoff. They also don't accept American Express cards, which is kind of annoying.
All in all though, a great dining experience. I would definitely come back.
We stopped into Nida's for a dinner on a random Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation but we were offered either a table for 45 minutes (reservation coming in then) or we could sit at the sushi bar for as long as we like. We chose the bar since we don't mind that one bit and ordered some really tasty drinks. I ordered the Jade City martini and my husband ordered a really interesting drink with Longan vodka and longan fruit (it's similar to lychee). Really unique drinks unlike anything I've ever had before. Loved them!
We share a gyoza appetizer that might be some of my favorite I've ever had. The rice paper outside was perfectly cooked and not chewy like some others. I ordered the Thai noodle soup which is a beef broth with rice noodles- similar to pho. I was told it had a sweet/spicy taste. Wow- it was sweet and it was spicy! My mouth was on fire actually- but in a good way.... I couldn't stop eating it. And even though my mouth was burning, it was just an amazing flavor. The beef was perfectly booked in it and the noodles were plentiful. To me it was a perfect meal.
My husband ordered the Gang Garee- which is a yellow curry with carrots and potatoes and chicken. When it came out as a green curry that was so spicy I couldn't eat more than a bite, we asked to make sure it was the right one. It wasn't. But they apologized and rushed out the right one a few minutes later. This one was MUCH better. The perfect amount of spice. This was the first curry I've ever eaten and I loved it! Definitely have to eat more.
Dinner left us stuffed and so we didn't go for dessert or a second drink but I was so happy with our dinners I skipped all the way to my car. Great service, great good, great prices- that's a perfect night to me!
I'm only giving this 3 stars, because I really haven't had much better luck with Thai food in Columbus. Â The tom yum was ok. Â The panang curry was sub par. Â The curry tasted like it was out of a can. Â My pad thai wasn't anything special either...and the noodles were tough. Â How do you mess up pad thai???? Â Â
.....and they offer sushi. Â As a rule, I don't trust any place that offers more than one cuisine. Â It makes the food less authentic and it suffers for that.
I know this isn't California or New York, but there is a large Asian population in Columbus. Â Why is there not a lot of really good Asian food options?
Although the food is delicious and the cocktails topnotch...i cant get over how cold the wole place gets during the winter. I know there is only so much they can do to battle old jack frost but.
I will say the atmosphere is great for a first date or catching up with an old friend and the staff is very friendly and willing to chat when they arent busy.
Nida's has a lot of great things going for it--Pad Thai, sushi, drinks, neat ambiance, and location. I think that compared to my other "go to" place for Basil, which has recently disappointed me, I would definitely go here for Pad Thai. It has a really great flavor and the portion is big (at least to me--I got two meals out of it without a problem). Just trust me when I say that Nida's has some good Pad Thai.
I recently tried this amazing appetizer at Nida's called krathong thong, which is minced chicken with spices in little phyllo cups with a sweet-and-sour dipping sauce. It sounds so simple but it is delicious, with the crispy little bite-sized cups. I would totally get this again! We also opted to order a spicy salmon roll, which unbeknownst to us (and against what the menu seemed to indicate) was deep-fried. Nonetheless, it was delish!
If you're feeling a bit daring, try some of the curries. The gang kua is this delicious curry with pineapple, grape tomatoes, bell peppers, basil, and tamarind, and you can get it with steamed tofu, fried tofu (my pick!), chicken, pork, shrimp, and beef. Served with steamed white rice, this meal is hearty, spicy, and perfect for a cold winter's eve. I ordered medium per the waitress' recommendation, though I like my food hot hot hot. Oh believe me. This definitely satisfied.
As for the service, I've noticed that a few people weren't fans of the waitstaff's attentiveness at Nida's. I have no complaints; on a busy Saturday night without reservations, we were seated within 10 minutes of arriving at a small, awkward table near the door. After a couple of tables became available toward the back, the hostess asked us if we'd like to move, which was a nice gesture. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and helpful. As an added bonus, Nida's has a coat rack in the back so you don't have to deal with unruly winter garments on the back of your chair.
All in all, our most recent outing to Nida's cost about $65 including tip; this included a beer, a glass of wine, krathong thong, spicy salmon roll, Pad Thai entree, and gang kua. Not bad at all for a nice evening out! (P.S. Don't try to come here on Sundays--they're closed.)
The only reason I'm not giving this place 4 stars is because I'm an admitted fat at heart American ( I do work it off tho :) and their specialty rolls were small. I LOVE sushi, and I normally spend $12-18 on average for specialty rolls but they are considerably larger than a standard roll for about$6-7 dollars. At Nidas, my $13 specialty roll (spicy scallop) was the same size as my basic tempura roll for $7... I must admit however, it was good, so I'll set my subconscious fat girl attitude aside and oblige!
My date however, was a weirdo and normally, I love weirdos, but the ones that actually have personality, or understand the concept of humor or even entertainment for that matter... But yeah, he had a dish made with fried white fish and a spicy red cucumber/tomatoes/and pepper sauce that was great and a side of white rice, but even better when we added the spicy peanut sauce that we had requested with our spring rolls.. Delish!! Although my date was dry, this place has the pizzaz of a nice girls night out, not quite upscale, but fresh food, mellow ambiance and decor, and not upscale, yet definitely a place you could totally glam up with your own dinner party :)
Overall, a decent experience. I got the Thai fried rice (was in the mood for something semi-greasy and carby), but it was just okay. My order came with a poached/fried egg on the side, which I didn't request but I noticed on the menu that there was an additional charge for the egg. I don't know if I was charged for it in the final bill or not. How can an egg be described as poached "slash" fried, you ask? Well, it was the shape of a poached egg (more globular than spread out) with a fried crust on the outside. Maybe they cracked it in a deep oil bath. Anyway, that darn egg kinda saved the meal from a memorability standpoint. Get the egg. It was difficult to eat with chopsticks, however.
The spice scale was from 1 to 5, and the waiter told us that he would not recommend anyone getting the 5. My table mate, a lover of spicy food, ordered the 4. He said it wasn't too spicy at the outset, but I noticed his eyes watering by the end. Thai spice tends to build over time, no? I ordered the 2, which the waiter described as 'American spicy,' but it really didn't have any kick at all. Sriracha to the rescue.
The decor was nice, as is the location. Didn't have any trouble finding parking in that metered lot next to White Castle across the street.
While the experience certainly wasn't negative, I'd rather visit other restaurants in the area.
One last gripe: I am annoyed by "upscale" Asian restaurants that serve food with disposable chopsticks. I feel like it's the equivalent of plastic picnic silverware. Maybe they're afraid of people walking off with proper chopsticks?
Although this place is called Nida's Thai On High, the reason why I've been a regular for the past three years is the sushi. I've never had a bad, nay, a mediocre roll here. The fish is always extremely fresh, the rice is always the perfect stickiness, and the rolls are so well made.
The regular-find-at-any-sushi-joint rolls are delicious, like the spicy tuna and the avocado roll. In addition, Nida's also has incredibly tasty and visually gorgeous specialty rolls, including the Red Dragon roll, the regular Dragon roll, and the Double Spicy Tuna roll. The prices are extremely reasonable too, considering the quality of food and the portion size.
As I said, I usually only come here for the sushi, but every other item I've had is always delicious as well. The Crab Ragoon is-- pardon me-- ORGASMIC and the vegetarian spring rolls are always tasty and perfectly crisp. The Pad Thai is fantastic, as are all their curries.
The service has greatly improved in the last year, as well. If you don't want to eat in, their take out is fantastic and tastes just as good as when you eat inside. The ambiance is really simple, zen-like, if you will-- perfect for a romantic evening or night out with friends.
Overall, Nida's is a true gem of deliciousness in the Short North and I'm so thankful for their amazing sushi, reasonable prices, and chic ambiance!
So this is what happens to me at every Thai restaurant that I go to.
Me: Hmm what should I order.
Friend/Date: What do you usually get?
Me: Chicken Pad Thai
Friend/Date: Get that then
Me: I feel like expanding though
(Spend the next ten minutes looking over every item on the menu)
Waitress: What will you two be having
Friend/Date: Orders something
Me: Damn it....Chicken Pad Thai
It never fails, I know I should expand on the menu but I love Pad Thai it's climbing the ranks as my favorite food and Nida's does not disappoint. I wish I would have gotten it a little spicier but didn't want to be blown away so next time I know to get more of a medium/hot instead of mild/medium.
I enjoyed everything about Nida's from the decor to the service. I was surprised with how busy they were on a Thursday night around 8 but even though we were sat close to two other couples it didn't distract from having a great conversation with my date. The server was not over bearing but still attentive and never let our waters stay empty for too long.
Food came out quickly even with the business and everything was hot and tasty. Can't ask for more than that. While I'm sure there is better Thai in town this is a great place for a date or for a nice dinner out with friends. Nida's expect to be seeing me a lot!
I've been here a few times now, and it's become my favorite Thai in Columbus. The Short North isn't lacking in ethnic cuisine, but good Thai is hard to come by in this town. Now that Nida's is around, I won't go anywhere else when I'm in Ohio.
The ambiance is more SoHo than ShoNo, but the price points are decent. Brick walls, old flooring, cramped seating and a surprisingly diverse bar with good views of High Street --it's warm and inviting inside, unlike most Thai places I've been.
I was hooked on the food my first visit, but this last one really cemented the Nita's experience for me. Don't miss out on any of the soups, the Tom Yum fried rice, the Pad Kee Mao or the Panang Curry -- they're all bursting with flavor. Nida won't hesitate to warm you up to Thai hot either, if you're so inclined.
Nida's new place is just down the street from where I work, and I had been dying to try it. I finally got my chance a few weeks ago when some friends made reservations. They had been before and were able to make suggestions for what to order. They talked highly of the Dragon's Eye Cocktail and the Seaweed Salad and ordered both. Unfortunately, the waitress thought they said "Seafood" Salad and brought them two huge dishes fill with all kinds of sea creatures. It was WAY too much to eat as an appetizer. They politely told her she was wrong, and she corrected the mistake. I hope the kitchen staff got to munch on the salads instead of having to throw them away.
I had the Pad Khing with breaded tofu. It came with all kinds of veggies and perfectly steamed rice. I asked for mild, but the dish was still a bit too spicy for my taste. Nonetheless, I scarfed as much of it as I could down (big portions) boxed the rest and finished it as a midnight snack (good re-heated too).
Conversely my other friend loves spicy and asked for his dish to be as hot as possible. Despite the visible color difference between his plate and the rest of ours, he said his wasn't spicy enough. I guess it's all in the taste buds.
The only real downfall was that we forgot to tell the waitress to split the check and we had a tough time sorting things out since the drinks were lumped into one single total.
Great atmosphere. Nicely decorated. The place was packed when we went, but we had plenty of elbow room and felt very comfortable. Good for small groups, I'd say no larger than six. I wish they delivered. Metered lot across the street.
Nida and crew did an incredible job with the new place. The decor is absolutely beautiful, from the bar to the lighting to the art.
Pad Thai was superb, fresh and a bit sweet. They've got a bunch of interesting cocktails and the prices are fine ($10 on average).
The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars was some spotty service (very friendly, just a little absent-minded, no big deal), and some inconsistent drink prices. I had a martini ($7), and my girlfriend had a Captain and Seven ($8). $8 for a Captain and Seven seems a tad high, while the $7 Martini was actually pretty nicely priced.
Anyway, we'll definitely be back, very much recommended. A great addition to the neighborhood.
