Hello Perch Management,
I wanted to let you know that I experienced the worst customer service EVER at your restaurant. Â My group was a party of 8 and we made reservations (initially for a party of 12). Â This was for 8PM on Friday, 7/19/13.
1. Â For having had reservations, the male host with glasses was extremely rude and unprofessional. Â With an initial reservation for a larger party, why is it such an issue that our party is now smaller? Â It does not warrant a condescending tone. Â Only three of the dinner guests were present (since we checked in at 7:40PM, 20 minutes early). Â A polite thing to say would be: "We cannot seat you until your scheduled reservation time and most of the party is present.". Â NOT: "You really need to let me know how many people are in your party. Â Are you sure the count is right? Â We really have limited chairs and the count must be exact (condescending tone)." Â We answered yes, we are sure. Â Then we were told to hang on a few minutes. Â Okay. Â After 5 minutes, the host suddenly waves at us to follow him to a table with only 4 chairs and only 4 table settings. Â We have a party of 8 people. Â Gradually, more chairs and table settings were brought over. Â
2. Â The waitress was Liliana (server 119). Â Did not greet us with a warm welcome or a smile. Â Took our initial drink and appetizer orders. Â As more people in our party came, she took their orders as well. Â This was the only thing she did right.
3. Â The male "bus boy" that refilled our water glasses and cleared our table did an amazing job. Â
4. Â The waitress never came back to ask how our table was doing or if we needed anything. Â
5. Â It was my friend's birthday and the birthday dessert came out with an unlit candle. Â We brought this to the waitress' attention and she acted surprised like she didn't know it was not lit. Â We had to light the birthday candle using the candle on the table.
6. Â When it came time to pay the bill, we asked her for a pen so that we can write on the back of the receipt (how much to charge on the credit cards). Â She rudely threw it down on the table. Â After she took the completed bill with our payment, she rudely asked "Do you still have the pen I let you borrow?"
7. Â Bottom line: Liliana did not deserve the 18% gratuity. Â I wanted to speak up but I didn't want to make a fuss on my friend's birthday. Â
P.S. Â Service from beginning to end was horrible. From the host that seated us to the waitress that failed miserably...will be the reasons I will not come back.
Food was excellent. Cocktails were excellent. Â But I can get these anywhere else along with exceptional service.
I absolutely loved Perch! It has a beautiful view overlooking downtown LA. I went for brunch and the food was delicious and reasonable in price. My plate was about $14 not bad at all. However the drinks are definitely a bit more pricey. I believe I paid about $15 for a cocktail drink. So if you want to avoid paying a high bill I would stay away from the cocktail drinks.
Last but not least make sure you make a reservation. I went this past Sunday and it took about 20min to get seated so I can only imagine how long people without reservations have to wait.
Tip: The restaurant is located on the rooftop so look for the name on the building or a security guy outside and you have found it. He will then guide you to the elevator so you can be on your way! (It's on the 18th or 17th floor I think ) - not sure
