This place was decent for a night cap. met the new owner, but couldn't shake the gross vibe from his weird, chain smoking skeletor girlfriend? Either way, gets the job done (the beer...not skeletor).

I'm sad.  This used to be a great dive bar tucked into Merion Village.  There were huge murals of Pete Rose and of historic Yankees painted on the walls.  There was an array of cheap canned beers.  There was one of those old towel loop machines in the mens room.  I guess the place recently was sold, and most of the old character is gone.  The murals have been painted over with bland white paint, and a bunch of boring booths are about to be installed.  The cheap canned beer has been replaced by moderately priced bottled beer--decent stuff, but not the best (if you want the best in this area, walk down the street to Hal & Al's).  This is disappointing.  There are still good things, though.  The bartender was very friendly and gave us a good deal on our drinks, and the outdoor area is still quite nice.  This is still a nice neighborhood bar, but it is no longer a must-see for dive bar afficionados.

When you hit this place, you know it is gonna be a bad night.

It is never one of those places that I decide to go and make a night of it- it is the place I go after I've already had a night and want to continue to drink at a place that I can walk home from (excuse my dangling participle).

It is an unpretentious, townie bar. It has decent food and service. The drinks are heavily poured and the mix of people is... unusual. The jukebox is pretty fantastic and the bathroom is pretty clean. Never overly crowded.

The final nail in the coffin for a horrible hangover.
