Amazing chicken shawarma sandwiches and homemade pita chips. We have ordered from Zachi once a week for the last couple of months and have never been disappointed. Great service and delicious food!
Just tried the soup of the day (lentil soup) and loved it. Try this place --You will not regret it!
What a great place! The food is fresh and delicious and very reasonably priced. Â The owner is very friendly and i love the free lentil soup sample. Â The soup was delicious and flavorful as was everything else on the menu. Â The tabouli was very lemony ( a little too much for me) but I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. Â Great hummus and falafel! I will definitely be returning.
Review Source:Since I moved to Chicago two+ years ago, I've been searching for a falafel sandwich that does not pale in comparison to Pita Inn's. I had struck out on every attempt, until I strolled in to Zachi for late lunch yesterday. The gourmet sandwich ($6) comes with eggplant, fried potatoes, pickles, hot sauce, tahini, and a lot of other stuff I'm forgetting. It's very flavorful, and delicious. Of note, service is exceptional - the man serving my food insisted on frying me fresh falafel, which was amply worth the short wait, and gave a sample of free lentil soup, which was awesome on a 15 degree day. Hummus ($2) is somewhat loose and not as tangy as I like it; had I eschewed ordering this, Zachi would have earned five stars from me for sure. As it stands, it's easily my go-to for falafel in Chicago (proper, that is: Pita Inn still reigns supreme), and belongs on any short list for the best cheap eats in the city.
Review Source:As a big fan of schawarma and felafel, I had been waiting for something of this ilk to move into the neighborhood. Zachi turns out to be pretty darned good. I had lentil soup and the chicken schawarma plate. The lentil soup was great for a cold day as it is well-seasoned, flavorful, and lentily in a good way. The chicken was flavorful and really worked well off the spit, if not slightly on the dry side. Rice and pita were nice. The portions are absolutely reasonable, the prices are fair, and the food is quite good. As a bonus, the guys running the place are friendly and seem to care about both the food and the customer.
There isn't much seating, as a downside.
I'll definitely be back.
I've been here twice and have enjoyed myself both times. They always give out free samples (I've tried the lentil soup, chips, baklava, and even got a buy one falafel sandwich and get 1 free) and the owner is very friendly and their prices are fair. They also accept Level Up here (I used $5 free dollars from them and put it towards my dinner).
Review Source:I am absolutely in love with this place. When I first saw a mediterranean food place had opened up two blocks from my house, I was ecstatic. Then I went in, and was even happier. I had never lentil soup before, and when I walked in I was offered a sample. Now I order it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. And every time i get a sample too! It's amazing, so so so perfect for a cold or rainy day. The bites are my favorite. There's just like, the perfect texture and crunch and flavor. Kefta kabob is my #1, second is chicken shawarma. Two bites and a soup and I'm set. One time i got my usual order while having a cold, slapped on a lot of hot sauce, and I'm pretty sure it saved my life, or at least it felt like it.
Their portions are little but it's perfect cause you can try a lot of different things, which I love. The food is good and the people are nice. Yaaaay Zachi.
Just ate here for the first time and had a great lunch. We had the chicken shawarma and falafel both were very good and reasonably priced. We also had the hummus that comes with warm fresh pita and pickled vegetables which was creamy and also seemed very fresh. The owners and employees were very friendly and gave us a free sample of lentil soup. Bottom line is this the type of neighborhood spot you want to support and it has the food to back it up. I'll be back often.
Review Source:Mmmm Zachi chips!! Â Buy 2 containers, I assure you that you'll be happy you did this when you get home! Â I've tried almost everything on the menu and finally found my favorite dishes that I could eat every single week (and often times do)!
Zachi chips, Lentil Soup, Falafel Supreme sandwich. Â That's all you need to know!
The Zachi chips are homemade and full of flavor-so addictive you can't stop eating them! Â I love adding them to the hot and tasty Lentil Soup-perfect on a cold winter day! Â The Falafel Supreme is the ultimate sandwich. Â Their homemade pickled vegetables make it a major stand out. Â Order it with hot sauce for an extra (and tasty) kick!
The owner is great, he is there all the time and really cares about his business. Â Great prices as well! Â Stop in and support this great new addition to the 'hood!
This place is pretty damn good. I've been here a few times and each time I leave happy. The hummus and falafels are yummy, the lentil soup (which I got a free sample of) was delicious, and the chicken and beef shwarma is spiced just right. Plus the owner is super friendly and sincere, and everything's affordable. Not to mention, the pita chips are practically addicting.
The only drawback is I feel guilty dining-in on styrofoam... But hopefully they'll address that soon. So glad this place is in the neighborhood!
The man behind the counter, who I can only assume is the owner, greeted me with cup of the most amazing lentil soup I have had outside of NYC. He very very helpful about my questions and was also very pleasant in general. After unwrapping my falafel sandwich and biting right into it, I also found it to be some of the best in the city. And u can't beat the taste and quality for $5! Kudos to this great new neighborhood addition.
Review Source:I feel like my boyfriend and I have eaten at every falafel place in the city. Up until recently Sultan's was our go-to, but the last few times we ordered from them, we were a little underwhelmed. Not to mention, their cash only policy kind of sucks.
We noticed Zachi's while walking to the El, and were plesantly surprised to see a new Middle Eastern place coming to our area.
We finally got around to coming here a week or so ago, and I'm pretty sure my boyfriend has been here 5 times since then.
On our first trip here we both did the Zachi platters.
I got a "bite" of falafel and one with chicken schwarma with a side of baba ganouj
My boyfriend got the beef and one falafel and a side of hummus
While we were waiting, the owner gave us a sample of their lentil soup which was AWESOME, and also gave us some pita chips to have with our sides.
The falafel was delicious. It was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The pickled vegetables in the pita were nice and crunchy and the pita itself with soft and super fresh. The chicken schwarma was one of the best sandwich/pitas I have ever had. The chicken itself was incredibly moist and flavorful. The pickled vegetables complemented it perfectly. Both the baba ganouj and the hummus were delicious
Overall, this will now be our goto place for falafel/schwarma. The owner is incredible nice too. He was very friendly and attentative. Before we left he gave both of us coupons for a free falafel. We will DEFINTELY be returning
I'm so excited finally a place near DePaul that serves amazing middle eastern food!! The owner walks you threw the entire menu and is extremely polite.
The most important part, the food obviously, is second to none! I have gone to essentially every single middle eastern restaurant in Chicago, and this ranks up their with the best of the best. It reminds me of my granny's cooking backhome. I can't wait to come back! I just wish I didn't live so far away from you guys.
The service here is fantastic. I would highly recommend everything I've tried so far. The lentil soup, tabbouleh, cabbage salad and Jerusalem salad are all better than other Mediterranean places in the area. The pita chips are so good too. And they're homemade! You can tell they care about serving really good high quality food. Can't wait to go back for more!
Review Source:I have been meaning to try this place since I first noticed them open. Â Being a big fan of falafel/shwarma and being overly frustrated with the fact that Sultans Market is cash only I was very excited about the prospect of a restaurant like this opening up near me.
Upon walking in, I was immediately greeted by who I believe was the owner. Â While looking at the menu he offered my girlfriend and I each a sample size serving of their lentil soup. Â It was phenomenal. Â After browsing the menu for a few minutes we both decided to get the Zachi platter, which consists of two "bites" a side and a drink. Â I went with falafel and beef shwarma, my girlfriend with falafel and chicken shwarma. Â This was far and beyond the best shwarma I have ever had! Â So incredibly flavorful and the pita they use is so soft. Â For the sides I got hummus and she had the babbaghanouj, both awesome. Â Oh, and I forgot to mention, the owner gave us a free order of their housemate pita chips, arguably the most addictive snack I've ever had. Â
All in all this was an incredible experience from start to finish. Â The service was spot on. Â The owner clearly recognizes how important it is to keep the customer happy. Â Oh and did I mention that after the meal he gave each of us a coupon for a free falafel sandwich?? Â As if I needed any more motivation to go back! Â I see myself quickly becoming a regular and I HIGHLY recommend any one who is in the area, and even those who are not, to try this place!
This place is an awesome addition to the neighborhood. I've had a hard time finding good middle-eastern food 'round here, so I was very happy to see Zaachi open up.
What I love about this place is that they offer both "bites" of their menu items as well as a full size. This not only allows you to try several different things, but if you're not feeling terribly hungry you can just get a bite size of whatever you want and not pay the price of a full-sized meal. Very reasonably priced for both sizes.
The chicken shwarma sandwich is what compelled me to write this review. It's pretty delicious. I don't know what sauce they're layering in there, but whatever it is, is freaking awesome. I had the bite sized sandwich and it was more than enough with a large Jerusalem salad.
Also, the owner is really nice. I stopped in there to pick up dinner, and chatted with him the entire time I waited. He pays attention to detail, and you can tell he truly cares about his business and making his customers happy.
I've eaten here twice, and have not been disappointed.
Had lunch here and is was very fresh and yummy. The portions are decent and the price OK. I has Chicken Swarma and Hummus plate and it was good. Â
Seating area is small so no big groups. It has an open kitchen concept and you can watch the chef prepping your food which is nice.
I would suggest you give it a try. The owners and employees are really friendly and helpful with suggestions.
This place is fantastic.
We are no strangers to Middle Eastern food, be it Lebanese, Turkish, Palestinian. Everything we have gotten here has been exceptional. The Lentil Soup, sandwiches (chicken and beef shwarma (sp)) Baklava, and falafel are all some of the best we've had in the city. Their super cheap and very friendly, please give this place a try you will not be disappointed.
Been here twice and have enjoyed it both times. The shwarma is tasty and the portions are pretty generous. You can definitely get a satisfying meal for less than $10. Also the owner was very welcoming and obviously believes in good customer service, as he comped a side with one of my meals so I could try something new. I'll definitely be back.
Review Source:If you remember Zou-Zou, this is in the same location, with very similar food. It's definitely inexpensive, Â and portions are proportionately so. But Is the food good? Yes. Beef plate was excellent (my daughter said "I love this (kifta)"), as was the tabouli and Jerusalem salad. The falafel was a little cold; maybe I'm just not used to it this way, and the baba ghanouj less smooth than expected. My wife had a chicken "sandwich" which was very tasty, but a little on the dry side (nothing that some tahini didn't fix). The rice was perfect, the kids wolfed down their bowl. The owner was kind enough to offer us a taste of the lentil soup (very good, a little thin though), and made some fries for the kids. All-in-all, very good food, inexpensive and a great addition to the neighborhood.
One big knock  - everything is served in or on styrofoam, which while just acceptable for take-out, is a real no-no for in-restaurant dining.
I had lunch here with co-workers today, and we enjoyed it!
We were trying to decide between this place and flat top grill next door. Â The owner ran out and told us we should come in and try some lentil soup for free and then make our decision.
The lentil soup was really good! Â I wish I had gotten a cup of it to go for later today!
We decided to stay because the soup was good, everything else looked good, and the owner is so nice!
I had the Zachi platter. Â For $7 I had 2 sandwich bites (falafel, and lebna), a side (hummus), and a drink. Â This is a good deal! Â The sandwich bites weren't that small, but it was nice to get to have 2 different sandwiches. Â I loved the lebna until I got to the olives. Â I hate olives, and I wasn't paying attention and didn't see that they were clearly included in the sandwich. Â Next time I would ask for extra cucumbers in place of the olives.
The chicken shawarma plate looked really good, and it looked like enough food for 2 meals which is great at $7. Â I need to try that sometime!
This place doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but they have good cheap food made by nice people.
As if we were not full enough when we were leaving, they have us each a free container of pita chips!
For the second time now Zachi left another great impression. Priced at an affordable rate especially if you are not sure what to order. It offers wide range of options to choose from.
Clean friendly environment. So friendly  the owner is took some time to inform us of what Za'atar was and what it is made of.
Great new business perfect for the neighborhood
This new establishment is great - and just what this area needs (non run-of-the-mill chain restaurant). Â It's been open for only a few days and I have since been there twice. Â I highly recommend the Zachi Platter for $6 including drink as either a first-timer or a repeat regular like myself. Â The platter essentially gives you a sample of every delicious item on their menu. Â Owners/Operators are extremely nice and tend to offer freebies or samples of new offerings on the menu or if you are unsure as to where to start on the menu, they will gladly give you a tasting. Â Great business practice for those who might be on the fence about trying a new or different type of cuisine.
I live in the neighborhood and this will now be my go-to lunch spot - quick, very affordable, fresh and tasty. Â I wish these guys the best of luck in their new opening.
This restaurant is a wonderful addition to our neighborhood! The food is fresh and everything we tried had great flavor. All of the side dishes are homemade and delicious. My kids love it!
The owner is gracious and obviously takes great pride in his food. It's great he's brought this wonderful restaurant to the hood and I'm looking forward to many great meals here.
After seeing news of Zachi on the Soutport Corridor facebook page, I decided to check it out. The owner was extremely kind and walked us through the menu. The open counter/kitchen set up allowed us to watch as the chef (a Jerusalem native!) prepared our food. Zachi is extremely clean and well-organized, and all of the ingredients were obviously very fresh. I ordered a Jerusalem salad with a side of falafel, and my boyfriend had the beef schawarma. We took our food to go. I live about 2 miles from Zachi. When we got to my apartment I noticed that the Jerusalem salad was not what I thought it was as it was dressed in Tahini sauce (the Jerusalem salad that I have had has been dressed in lemon/olive oil). I called to order a Fattoush salad for delivery. Although this was my mistake, the owner was extremely kind and apologetic. My fattoush arrived in less than 15 minutes, and the delivery person refused to take my money. We also received a platter of complimentary falafel.
Besides the great service, the food was so fresh and flavorful. I am a vegetarian, and there are a lot of choices for me on this menu. I can't wait to go back and try the Super Falafel! This is definitely a new favorite spot.
Just left Zachi. Very tasty falafel and schwarma. Finally found somewhere in West Lakeview near Southport for good, affordable middle eastern cuisine. I walked in there intending on paying for my meal, but luckily they were serving complimentary samples. The staff was friendly and passionate about me enjoying the food, and I did. I hope to be enjoying Zachi right around the corner for years to come.
Review Source:We were just walking home and they told us to come in and try some free samples of their food as they had just opened. I mean I'm a fan of free food and the fact that the food was amazing on top of that made it a real treat! Everything I tried was delicious and authentic. I look forward to enjoying this new neighborhood spot for many years to come!
