Spoiled native New Yorker here - so sorry Bazbeaux and fans - but this is NOT the kind of pizza - crust reminded me of a stale Matza cracker, sauce and cheese were okay. Yes, I am as Ana A. says, "obnoxious pizza snob"!!! But I know what I like and gave this place a shot - maybe something other than pizza would have been a better choice.
Husband loved his Cuban - thick wheat crust.
Absolutely loved the Sun King beer - cream ale.
Enjoyable atmosphere.... Delicious pizza..... Friendly staff.... Price was decent for the location that its in... Would have love to sit outside sadly still a little to cold for that.... Â Downfall if you are driving have fun trying to find a place to park. Â Police in this town are not friendly esp. to outsiders.....
Review Source:When my sister suggested pizza for dinner on my last night in Indy, I was pretty apprehensive. See, I am a pizza snob, and a Chicagoan, which of course means that I am a Chicago-style pizza snob. And, admittedly, Chicago-style snobs are second only to New York-style snobs in terms of obnoxious pizza snobbery.
But all in all, I liked my Bazbeaux dinner. We ordered the Luke, which turned out to be an excellent choice. It had a very light amount of red sauce, a blend of cheeses that included bleu cheese, buffalo chicken, red onion, and small pieces of celery that I could've done without. I then proceeded to smother the thing in bleu cheese dressing to create a spicy, tangy CHEESY EXPLOSION IN MY MOUTH. (I suppose I should note that I'm not very hard to please wherever bleu cheese is concerned.) The crust was blah, but I wasn't too upset about it because of all the DELICIOUS, DELICIOUS CHEESE.
The prices seemed pretty reasonable: my sister and I split a 12" for $13 and went away full. The staff that we encountered were so-so, except our server, who was very nice. We were a little annoyed when they switched the large TV and sound from the Oscars (which we came to watch) to the Walking Dead, because one of their regulars (from what I can tell) wanted to watch it. And he wasn't even eating! But our server was really apologetic about it so we didn't want to be brats about it.
Bazbeauxs was delicious. Very unique and creative flavors and topping for the pizza. I had
A Cajun style pizza with shrimp and it had
Loads of flavor. I am really into pizza too so this place gets a thumbs up, and it's I'm broad ripple and I love broad ripple. You can't really go wrong there.
First of all, what is with Indiana and party cut pizza? I really wish restaurants would disclose this very unfortunate habit on the front page of the menu! Â Yes, I expect that pizza is finger food, and there is absolutely no way to eat those messy center squares without a fork and knife!
Second issue I had with bazbeaux sieving party cut pizza is they don't provide a spatula, and when we asked Megan, our server, she said they don't have them! Â I am sorry, but if it really is a party, and everyone used this utensils, what is left to serve the pizza? Â Come on! Just cut a pie like a pie! Â How would you feel I'd I gave you a square of pumpkin pie from the center?
Pizza DID taste delicious. Â We ordered the garden and added andouille sausage. Â We were just 3, and 2 of us had snacked already at the Ball & Biscuit next door, so we didn't splurge on appetizers or desserts.
I would certainly go back, and request a properly cut pizza with a spatula. Â I would also recommend that servers refrain from letting their customers know they feel worn out, frustrated, or "ready for a few beers" because its been a busy and or challenging night! Â Most of your customers work hard too, and are out to enjoy themselves, while de-stressing from their work day or week! Â Let them enjoy their dining experience without any complaints from the staff!
It is hard to tell if this is my favorite pizza in the city. I usually say that the pizza I am currently eating is the best. However, this pizza is for sure in the top 3. The restaurant itself is very inviting. Plenty of room, great lighting and very charming.
The bar focuses on craft beer: Oh yeah! Rock on..
The menu is crazy imaginative: Nothing too high-brow but you won't get bored.
The hipster-ish staff: Friendly and efficient.
Ingredients: Crust is just ok, the rest of the ingredients might not blow your mind but they are high quality. We LOVE the Neptune with the juicy shrimp and lump crab meat.
Don't get me wrong, I love all kinds of pizza. Chicago style, NY thin crust, Neapolitan, Ohio/St. Louis style... I like it all if it's done right. This just isn't that good.
The pizza is ok. I suppose some people think having a plethora of toppings available equals good pizza. I don't.
The crust isn't great, it seems soggy at points and overly chewy at others. What they did to a "Margherita" pizza might be considered a crime in Italy. The other options all just seemed like a boat load of toppings on mediocre crust. That's not really what I call good pizza. Just to make sure I've ended up trying this place a few times now, in multiple locations... and my opinion has not changed.
Will I eat it if someone else wants to go there or orders it in? Sure. Is it something I would seek out and go to again? No. It's over priced for what you get quality wise. I'm still struggling to find good pizza in Indy. Only Pizzology seems to hit the mark so far... and that's quite a drive from my house for pizza.
LOVE LOVE LOVE! I think that Bazbeaux is the best pizza in the city in my opinion (besides when I go to get my take-n-bakes from Papa Murphys--I love that place!). Anyway, I have never been disappointed going to Bazbeaux. I have been to the one Downtown, Broad Ripple, and Carmel - can't go wrong.
I recommend the Alla Quattro Formagio (I probably butchered that!) (and that without mushrooms--i hate mushrooms...) and the Mozzarella plate!! yum!
Don't shoot me...but....I'm not a pizza girl. Yeah - it's almost like saying you don't like rainbows or butterflies. But, in comparison to the general population, I don't get half as excited as ya'll do when it comes to the savory pie. It might be even better to describe me as a pizza snob. The kind of person who gets all razzled for pizzas that have toppings like prosciutto, arugula or sun dried tomatoes. Snob. You won't find me knocking at the door of Pizza Hut or Pizza King. However, if I'm in Italy - I'm eating pizza. And, if I'm in Indy, I'm eating Bazbeaux (conveniently located in my neighborhood). Â
I think it's the wide variety of available veggies that makes me love Bazbeaux so much. Last night, I opted for the new "Fresh Pizza" - pesto/olive oil in place of pizza sauce, arugula, roasted tomatoes, mozzarella (sliced), basil with added garlic and proscuitto. I was a little bummed that I didn't opt for the larger size because by the final slice, my friends and I were passing it like a pipe...just oneeee moooorrreeee bitteeee... The cherry on top? BP carries H20 Sushi's soheartyitsgottabehealthy, right? Shagbark cookies. If you haven't had one, stop waiting. Make it happen.
Their new location in the 3Mass building seems to suit them well - spacious with a sidewalk cafe. The only bummer is that the old location is still sitting empty in one of Downtown's primest of prime locations.
Not much more that can be said than what has already been said below. Â Awesome pizza, good atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff. Â We stopped here recently after spending a few hours at Rathskeller.... Â My buddy was a little fired up and punchy but the waiter took it all in stride and made it an awesome late dinner.
Review Source:Been here a couple times, always great food and service. So you can imagine my disappointment when I tried them for delivery yesterday and my pizza took an hour, arrived not exactly warm....and the delivery person gave part of my order to someone else.
I know it happens on busy Saturdays, but him saying "I gave your breadsticks to someone else, I can take them off the bill OR bring them later" really annoyed me.
He should've taken them off the bill AND brought us the correct order because it was after all his mistake.
Still tipped him, that was MY mistake.
My boyfriend's favorite food is pizza so no matter where we travel he always has to google the best pizza in that location and it is guaranteed to be one of our meals on that trip.  So while visiting Indianapolis we went to Bazbeaux and I must say it was amazing.  Parking was a little iffy but we found a park about  1/2 block and walked down. Â
We sat at one of the outdoor tables because the weather was really nice. Â For an appetizer we got the fresh mozzarella plate. Â I thought it was very good and my boyfriend, who hates trying new stuff, also thought it was really good. Â He was actually surprised that he liked it.
We ordered two pizzas which they called meat pies. Â The first pizza was the Mediterranean which had chorizo on it. Â It was sooo good and a bit spicy without being so spicy that you start to sweat. Â We also go the veggie wish was good but I thought it could have been a little saucier. Â I like sauce.... But over all both pizza's were pretty good. Â They were also good the next day when we heated them up in our hotel room.
Overall Bazbeaux is very nice. The atmosphere was laid back and there was a mix of singles, couples, and families all enjoying the food and weather. Â I would definitely return if ever visiting Indy again.
Some of the best pizza in Indianapolis. Their original location (across the street) often meant a long wait, but when they moved into the 333 Mass building they gained more space, added a bar area and a ton of outdoor seating. They lost a little of the Baz-charm that the old location had, but I am still happy they moved.
Their pizzas are top-notch. Their Hawaiian, BOT (bacon/onion/tomato and basil) and Garden are my favorites (~$20 for a large). They also have a killer house salad (TIP: ask for it the old way--shredded mozzarella--not grated parmesan) with the creamy basil dressing. The dressing will change your life!
This place is truly unique to Indianapolis and Mass Ave (although they have other locations, the Mass Ave location is by far the best) and definitely recommend a visit.
This place is slowly becoming a favorite of mine! Been here a few times over the years but for some reason it just didn't stick...a couple of months ago I made the return and have been back a few times since then. The Luke pizza (sort of a buffalo chicken pizza with celery on it) is my favorite! Good prices of beer and wine too. It's close to the Murat so if you are taking in a show it's a great place to have some food or some $2 PBR pint cans!
Review Source:This place is pretty cool with great pizza. Me and my girlfriend were here for a Colts game and decided to find a pizza place for a bit to eat. Luckily I saw the reviews on yelp and knew I had to go here. The Mediterranean Pizza was DELICIOUS!!! The house made chorizo and roasted red peppers along with everything went well together. Don't let me forget about the garlic bread with cheese and pesto sauce. Didn't think it could get better after the pizza but the pesto cheese bread put it over the top.
The atmosphere is nice also. Hipster type atmosphere with nice lighting and setup. It's on mass ave which was really nice when sitting outside at night.
Bottom line, if I lived here in Indy I would definitely gain 10 lbs from eating here alone. Very good overall, definitely stop by if you get the chance.
This was my first time for Bazbeaux Pizza. I came into town for the weekend and they were within walking distance from my hotel (JW Marriott). Being a vegetarian, good pizza places can sometimes be limited.
I walked in and was greeted very friendly. I asked to sit at the bar and she showed me where to go very nicely. I say down and was greeted with a beer and wine menu and was asked if I would like a food menu.
I ordered a beer and the Bazbeaux Special, a vegetarian option (their menu is separated for veg and non-veg) with some greens on it.
The beer was great. My pizza arrives after a moment, hot out of the oven. So hot, I repeatedly burnt my mouth! It was delicious though. The crisp bottom of the pizza complemented the toppings perfectly.
Overall, a very nice place. Good atmosphere, great employees, and awesome food. Highly recommended!
160 reviews? nuff said people. This is the place to go for a good pizza in Indy. It's delicious and interesting and I can't get enough of it. I love their lunch special which so does all of the downtown workers as it is jammed packed most days. I love their original pizzas along with their side options or salads. It's just all good to me. This is definitely my go-to pizza spot and will always be. I get the Bazbeaux's special and add pepperoni or not if I want to go meatless. I always enjoy the Bayou, the Margherita, and one of the other ones I am correctly forgetting.
I enjoy how after the move they have expanded their beer list to include local beer along with some interesting bottles. There is definitely more seating and this place has a vibe of its own. The service is great, quick and accurate. The prices are awesome and you can get a lot of various ingredients if you want to make your own.
I should also mention they do a great job when you order a huge amount of pizza for say a wedding rehearsal!! One of my favorite things to do is to order a carry-out pizza and then take it to a location like the Monument or War Memorial. A great view of the city at either with some really good food and hopefully good company makes for a great evening.
BEST PIZZA JOINT IN INDY! Â Can't go wrong with fresh pesto sauce!!
I've always had a great experience with the service and food here. Â The pizzas are amazing and they never skimp on the toppings. Â Garlic bread dipped in pesto is a religious experience here. Â Actually, I end up putting that pesto on everything. Â Just go with it!
If you are traveling, this place is downtown Indy and WORTH MAKING A STOP!
This is supposed to be the best pizza in Indy? Meh.
First I'll say: ADORABLE atmosphere, I loved mass ave, especially at night. We had a beautiful view from the patio, and the wine was cheap. Otherwise, we literally waited 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us and took our drink orders. I had a cheap and tasty chianti and we loved the atmosphere, aside from the people outside of Ball and Biscuit smoking like chimneys. Again, blessing Cleveland for outlawing smoking in public places, as that was so unpleasant, but not Bazbeaux's fault of course. Our waitress was sweet enough and the pizza was pretty frickin average. Not horrible, not great, but they've got some prime real estate and a skilled decorator.
Bazbeaux does not have the perfect pie by any means. But that doesn't mean it's not totally worth a visit or shouldn't be in your regular line-up.
We stopped by in a desperate search for food before a show and to get out of the rain. While just about every other place on Mass Ave was jammed full, Bazbeaux had room to spare and we were greeted warmly.
The staff also put up with my ridiculous quest to make a new form of soda, so they get points for that.
This pizzeria has all the usual trendy-type pizza toppings with a few interesting Mediterranean influences. Enough that I'd rate their pies on the better end.
That said, the wait to get our pizza was a bit longer than I'd like, especially when they weren't any busier than average I'd say.
Overall, this place hits the spot.
Perfect crust accompanied by mounds of delicious cheese and topped with almost any ingredient you can imagine. Â It truly doesn't get any better than Bazbeaux pizza. Â Â
My favorite is the Tchoupitoulas. Â (Chop-it-to-us) . . a savory combination of cajun shrimp, red & green pepper, onion, garlic (woot) and andouille sausage. Â I literally can't stop myself from devouring this pizza. Â Â Another sound choice includes the Quattro Formaggio but sub out the red sauce for the pesto. Â I promise you won't be sorry you did. Â Â
I usually get a side salad but recently have come to admit it's really just a conduit to the creamy basil dressing they have. Â
Lastly, it's worth mentioning that Bazbeaux has a nice selection of Indiana beerski's on tap.
Bazbeaux is, hand's down, one of my favorite places to get 'za. The quattro is and will always be my all time fave...it has all the major food groups, bread, meat, veg and dairy....you could add fruit and it would still be fabulous.
It was also here that I was introduced to Chimay...made by monks and therefore, it must be good. My favorite aspect of Bazbeaux is that they change their beers on tap on a regular basis so I have got to try Sun Kings 'Ring O Dingle'...fun to drink and fun to say. Currently they have a great brew called Hopstradamus...and it is exactly like the name says, hoppy...and delicious. I cannot wait to see what they add next!
Since I have been....would it be wrong to say 'religiously'....eating Bazbeaux for nearly six years, I had the chance to meet quite a few of the truly fabulous people who work there. And let me say, they are all great characters in the best possible way. Because of the wide variety of people who work there, I have been introduced to some great local bands and live music joints, local burlesque and some even better places to eat (who would have thought).
So here is my tip to you Yelp users...Be friendly and laugh and strike up a conversation over the fabulous food...you never know where it will take you!
This place is great. I have been here several times and also get delivery from here. But, last night was special. I discovered that not only do they have local craft been but also meats from Smoking Goose. I had a Smoking Goose Capicola red pizza. It was superb.
Service was friendly and excellent.
Were in town for the Super Bowl and saw a lot of good reviews for this place and it's right down town. Â I love good pizza and always like to try out new places, especially when I am out of town. Â
We met up with our friend who we see once a year at the Super Bowl. Â We ordered the Bayou Chicken and Bazbeaux Special with Pepperoni. Both didn't take long at all to cook. Â They use the normal oven and not the brick oven like some other places that we've been to. Â Still, both pizzas are great. Â Not the best but pretty good still.
When I was living in Bloomington (spoiled with Lennie's, Avers, and mother of all amazing pizza joints Ma Bears) I would hear people from Indy always compare these spots to Bazbeaux's. We went on my birthday and had the Tchoupitoulas on one half and the Quattro Formaggio on the other. I am not sure which was the more mediocre half of the pie. They had a BBC beer (Bloomington Brewing Company) on draft which was nice but the pizza does not compare to the pizza at Lennie's/BBC in B-town.
I was much more impressed with the pies at Chattham Tap down the street, which is where we went for my boyfriend's birthday the following week
I think I'm the luckiest girl in town! My fiancé and I were invited by our realtors for a thank-you-for-buying-your-first-home-through-us celebration at Bazbeaux. We got to nibble on the following:
  Bazbeaus Special - YUM
  Bayou Chicken - YUMMY
  Garden - nom nom nom
  Margherita - mmmhmmm
Colossus - a little bit too much meat for me (huh huh) but still tasty
Quattro Formaggio - they must serve this in heaven YUM--OOH
Thank you to Joan and her team for helping us find our home and our new favorite pizza place. ^__^
Pizza. Not much else to say. They get the job done, but "best pizza in Indy" it certainly isn't. I'm a pizza-spoiled Bloomington native, and this doesn't come anywhere close to my high standards of Mother Bears.
We ordered a meat lovers and a specialty pizza, and both were underwhelming, and not filling enough to make me feel I got my money's worth. I should NEVER leave a pizza place still feeling hungry.
Also, our waiter was spectacularly rude. As soon as he heard we all wanted waters to drink, he barely spoke to us the rest of the night. We were even going to order dessert, but he never asked, and practically rushed us out the door.
The upshot? Our waiter's haste led us to our first trip to the Flying Cupcake. Â Fantastic.
Bazbeaux just goes home with the gold! Every time! Bar none. And I will stand up and throw down to defend this.
I just don't understand how I can never have a bad pizza here?!? Take that back -- "how I can never have a pizza here that isn't more delicious than every pizza before it".
Ya know what...Bazbeaux is the Hattori Hanzo of pizza. Done.
For more info, see my previous reviews. Oh, and I'd never had their Antipasto Salad before. That's awesome, too!
My favorite pizza in Indy! Love the option to get the wheat crust (though a few times they have been our) and can't get enough of the Quattro pizza!! And have tried many of their pizza types and have yet to be disappointed!
Have had to wait for seating... but generally not too long. Service is usually pretty good, though room for a little improvement.
The Bazbeaux Special may be one of my favorite pizza pies in the city. Â I love the crust and the sun-dried tomatoes send me into a flavor fit.
The new space is nice and I dig the bar and great craft beer selection on tap and bottle.
I won't say BZBX is better than any other pizza joint in Indy.. I just prefer it!
Once again using Yelp to brainstorm ideas on where to eat or visit while on vacation, I came across Bazbeaux.
Our large group of eleven was walking Mass Ave and, on the way back, it was time for lunch. I remembered this place had great ratings so I looked it up and handed my phone over to my boyfriend, who navigated us.
Wait, what? It's not here??
Yelp... how dare you lead us to a closed establishment and not post "CLOSED" on the reviews??
Oh. It's across the street.
Well, I am glad I got to "check out" the old Bazbeaux... and then eat at the new Bazbeaux.
The line wasn't freakishly long, it just seemed to be very slow moving... This is one of those times where "I always order the same thing and gauge how good they are by that" comes in to play in a great way. My favorite pizza EVER is Margherita. I asked my bf to order me a small one and told him I'd be back. While everyone else waited to order, I ran over to do recon and gather as many tables as I could so we could sit as a group. (I scored--there were two empty tables I pushed together and then a booth opened up right by the two tables!)
The wait wasn't too bad--keeping in mind that the pizzas were made fresh--I think it just seemed like a long wait because half of the party ordered pizza by-the-slice, so their orders were ready to go instantaneously.
Don't get too overwhelmed with the menu--I did. Good thing I always get the same kind of pizza!
The price wasn't cheap, but I feel like my order was completely worth it.
PS: their restrooms are goregeous... if you're into the clean lines and concrete kinda thing like I am. =]
