I went here two days ago for lunch. The employees are too damn busy chit chatting with each other instead of providing service to the customers. You have to literally stare them down for an eye contact and ask to take an order and refill drinks which is annoying. Don't expect a 15% tip LOL At least Bonchon stops by your table every once in awhile unlike this place. Talk about bad service. Oh and a little message to the owner... Can you properly train your employees to wash their damn hands after hitting a cigarette outside in the middle of their working hours? These employees went out for a cigarette in the middle of their job as a waiter /waitress and served my food without washing their hands. As a non-smoker, they are full of cigarette scent while serving food and on top of that, how dare they serve a customer's food with their dirty  cigarette hands. At least have some manners to wash your hands. Geez. It's just so damn rude for the kid's to eat. The owner needs to train basic manners to these employees.
Review Source:This restaurant is a little bigger compared its competitor Bon Chon on the other side of the street. Â There is a small bar on the left hand side of restaurant, and a few tables on the right side of the place. Â We came in about 6 pm and there was only one server. Â She was very busy taking care of a couple of customers at the bar, answering the phone for take out orders, and then serving a couple of tables with customers. Â The server tried very hard to take care of the customers but we thought she was just overwhelm by everything that was going on. Â
Beer is really inexpensive during happy hour and that's a big plus.  The food is okay.  We had the original friend chicken and it was bland and besides the smell of the oil, there was no flavor at all.  We also tried the sweet and spicy chicken.  It's basically  chicken friend with a thick coat of batter and then covered with a very sweet sauce.  The crispy chicken salad was okay and it didn't have a lot of flavor.  The fried green beans had too much batter and it could use some salt or seasoning.  It came with this dipping sauce that was very rich.  Â
Overall, we just thought we've experienced better at other places.
"A lot of hype and not a lot of anything else"
Food: 2/5
Service: 2/5
Atmosphere: 3/5
Parking: 5/5
Cleanliness: 4/5
This place had received enough local hype and good reviews that I decided, against my better judgment, to come in. Upon trying new restaurants, I like everyone at the table to order something different so that a wide array of opinions on the different items can be measured fairly and.....the consensus was.... bland, boring food with poor service from an apparently drunken server.
Food here is, to be quite blunt, bland, unseasoned, generic, and not unique in any way. Of the side items, I chose the mac n cheese and, after not liking it at all, the server told me that it's Stouffer's that they microwave....seriously?
A.) You serve Stouffers microwave mac n' cheese to guests? Or perhaps more importantly,
B.) You admit that? While laughing none the less.
It's supposedly a Korean-inspired fried chicken menu.....however the place is called "chicken and beer". There are no Asian decorations, menu items, nothing, *not *Asian at all. Who on earth would randomly guess Korean cuisine when looking at such a place? I saw Midwestern diner but ok, moving on.
Service was actually quite comical. Our server was visibly intoxicated and had little to no menu knowledge beyond "oh yeah, that's s**t's so good, get that". After the disclosure that we were eating Stouffer's microwave food, he began getting a tad close to one of our guests and was overly casual with us. It wasn't an employee-customer relationship as much as a "guy I met at a dive bar" relationship...interesting, but I am very forgiving.
Â
Overall, this (apparently) Korean chicken dive bar is certainly not something I'll recommend to fellow yelpers. Try Bon Chon.
We ordered a 50 count wing pack this past Saturday around midnight. I love how they are open later than BonChon. We originally wanted BonChon, but BonChon was already closed.
Anyways, when we ordered our 50 count wing pack, we had 3 flavors: breaded, garlic, and sweet/spicy. The breaded ones were okay.. not much flavor. the garlic ones were just the breaded one with chopped up raw garlic tossed on top.. ehh. the third one was the sweet/spicy and this one actually tasted good and had flavor.
I don't think we would ever order here again (BonChon is still much better), but if so, I would make sure to get only wings that are coated in a sauce. Their wings are must smaller than BonChon wings. They are normal wing sized.
Plus, when you order takeout from them, they don't give you any sides (BonChon does).
I want to give them 3 stars because of the tasty chicken but the awful service (three separate occasions now) I can not overlook. When they actually get the order right or take your delivery order correctly and don't forget to bring your food out... they aren't bad. Tonight was the last straw though, I called to order in because my knee just doesn't want to be out and about, this place is in walking distance to my house, but they've ruined me for ever going back.
The friendly girl took my order well enough, informed me they charge a delivery fee of over $3 and that my total was close to $19. I figure all is well and my 30 minute wait would be fine.... BUT I get a call back saying they are sorry they can't deliver unless I order another side because I have to be over the $20 minimum (excluding the delivery fee). So again... I say fine, ordered something else and think all is well but then they want me to pay in cash. Wait.... what? Â I already gave you my credit card info... charge me. They make a big deal of all this and I just decided to cancel the order.
Supposedly the excuse was the girl on the phone has only been there a week and she took responsibility and fault for it, but I don't care who is at fault, she is your employee, I just wanted my order. If the girl is new to the establishment and doesn't know the process, that is not my problem, management should have dealt with it offline instead of calling me back and forth 3 times and just put my order through. I do not recommend this place anymore, management sucks and the overall customer service the past times I have been inside the store are severely lacking. Management must be the problem, seems to me like they have a high turnover rate.
If you're looking for an alternative to Bon Chon Korean fried chicken, try BBQ Chicken and Beer. Their menu offers more American bar food fare such as wings, sandwiches, and fries but with a Korean flare. They also offer healthier options like grilled chicken dishes and salads. All items are made-to-order (MTO).
Must-Haves: The Terigold wings (sweet and spicy), the spicy chicken cheese balls, and the waffle fries.
When you can't give your customers what was ordered, the first thing you should say is SORRY. Â Acting as if nothing happen and asking your customers to count the chicken pieces will not make 5 more pieces to magically appear. Â Learn to train your employees properly, oh wait that's right you were next to the phone telling the poor servers on what to say. Â I guess you really don't know any better. Â That is truly sad. Â Hiding behind your employees. Â Oh and what fun it would be to drive to your store because your can't refund back the money to my credit card. Â You truly have only yourself and not anyone else in mind.
Avoid this place. Â There are far better options in Centreville who actually respect their customers.
Oh and if you are curious why sometimes you get sick from eating this is it is because they fail to refrigerate their chicken at correct holding temperature. Â Google their VA food inspection report and you will see what I mean.
BonChon tastes better, but this place delivers until midnight so you can't beat that! Their fried chicken is good, a bit salty for my taste but I don't order here too often as it's pricey!! BBQ pulled chicken sandwich is good and fairly priced, but I have my crockpot now and I can make my own bbq pulled chicken lol. So, I haven't ordered here for a while, but it was pretty good. I would recommend it.
Review Source:3.5 stars, I've waited awhile to write a review on this because I think their wings are actually growing on me.
First experience here, I did not like it at all, it just wasn't enough flavor. I was so used to the the extra crunch and flavor from Bon Chon that Chicken & Beer was no comparison.
Fast forward to a few months later, I order some wings for take-out (Tera-wings & Sweet Spice wings), it was actually pretty good. It's a different kind of taste, the sauces aren't overwhelmingly flavorful, but it's still tasty nonetheless. I think the reason why I gravitate here rather than Bon Chon nowadays is because it's a lot healthier. Chicken & Beer use olive oil for their chicken and it doesn't leave me feeling gross afterwards.
Having lived in Korea for seven years I can attest that this is 90% authentic to what is served back in Daegu. My favorite food on the planet is BBQ's Sweet Spice fried chicken. I love food more than most (pats my belly  !) and none compare to the spicy spicy sweet tasty fried deliciousness that is BBQ. Now how is it 10% less authentic you ask? In Korea my lips would burn after eating chicken at BBQ and this would go on for about 10 minutes after eating. It was hot hot hot! This is a bit more mild but its still wonderful. Also my heart was bouyed with the copious servings of moo (picked white radish). The brine stinks but the veggie is soooo delicious and crisp and refreshing. Our server brought us three refills of moo and my heart was happy.
We drove 70+ miles for this chicken and made sure to go back the next day to get more to take home. Two days of BBQ chicken in my belly and life is good.
Regarding service: There is a button on your table to call the wait staff. Use it and they'll show up, people.
My only wish is that they had Korean beer. I miss Hite.
I hope you like it as much as I do but if you don't "Oh well" MORE FOR ME!!! Muahahhahahahahahahahahahahahah
Gave BBQ Chicken one more try and I was satisfied again. Â Maybe it's because I keep on forgetting what I ordered last time, but this round of wings was good with no problems at all. Â But it wasn't as great as my first time. Â What happened?? argh!! I miss that awesome first experience! Â
I ordered Buffalo (nothing special) Barbecue (nothing special) Sweet Spicy (this one was good and the "BBs" which has the super crunchy and spicy batter.
Good job BBQ Chicken and Beer, I'll return again!
BBQ Chicken and Beer is a fun and very casual place to eat lots of fried food. Seriously, its very easy to have a very large meal of very fried food. We had waffle fries w/ nacho cheese, fried green beans w/ ranch, drumettes and whipped potatoes w/ gravy (which was the only non fried food we ate.
Looking through the reviews I see a lot complaints about the service, but we didn't experience anything terrible. Especially since the whole place was being served by two young guys.
If you're seated and have service attention issues, ring the call button. They'll come running to help.
Everything was delicious. The waffle fries stand out here. I think the only other waffle fries I've had have been at Chick Fil A so that's the only comparison I can make. And there is no comparison. BBQC&B's fries are so crispy and they serve them very hot. Out of the fryer hot. I-burnt-my-tongue-and-had-to-remedy-with-cold-beer hot. Nacho cheese goes really well with them. They're so crispy and they actually taste like potatoes. Plus they left a little spice lingering my happy tongue.
The fried green beans weren't the best I've ever had but I was popping them just as fast as the waffle fries. Double fists. The green beans themselves weren't so flavorful. I actually bit off all the fry off one and just ate a naked green bean to taste it.
The whipped potatoes come with a chicken gravy that just tasted pretty good, nothing to write home about. Don't be mistaken, the potatoes weren't mashed so they weren't silky and creamy. They were whipped and lumpy red potatoes which is actually how I like them. Skins and all. It would have been dry if it hadn't been for the copious amount of gravy.
The drumettes had a fry on them like I've never had before. They look huge when they come out but its because its mostly fried batter. One bite I took was all fry. It was greasy too but that's how its supposed to be. The chicken was juicy, succulent, and well cooked. It actually reminded me of Lancaster fried chicken (Amish style) that I had visiting my grandparents growing up, which to me brought a familiarity to the meal. My tastebuds were telling my brain "hey we've had this before!" and my brain was all "yup".
I had Yuengling with my meal which only added to the whole West-of-Philadelphia experience I was having. They serve the beer in frozen mugs which I've heard isn't good for beer because frozen chunks of beer are bitter and affect the taste, but I've never noticed this. Cold beer = good beer. Plus it helped with the meal because everything was really hot. See my picture of the beer mugs in the photos.
They also had New Belgium beers like Fat Tire and Ranger IPA. Beer prices were good, $4 or $5. They have pitcher deals on Saturdays and Sundays which is great for groups. So bring friends.
They had 4 TV's up, 3 at the bar 1 facing the seating area above the live music corner.
At each table there are call buttons which you can ring and a server will quickly come to your rescue. Use it, it works. If you're not getting the attention you need from the server ring the bell. They'll come in a jiffy. This helped us when we changed our minds about an order. Our server, Jaehyeok, came back quickly enough that we changed our order before it reached the kitchen.
Everything was super clean considering the specialty is fried chicken, which is inherently greasy and messy.
Props to Jaehyeok for giving us great service. Overall a great place if you have hankerings for lots of fried food and fried fun.
My wife did sick the next day. I didn't. But I have an iron stomach. If your stomach is sensitive, don't eat fried food. Make better food choices. Fried food is inherently not good for you. This restaurant definitely has non-fried options that you order and still have a fun time.
Love this place, go with my BF all the time. I'm a huge fan of the sweet spice wings. Waffle fries are also good, but kind of pricey and it's not worth paying the extra $1.50 for the nacho sauce. My only complaint is the service, they usually tell us to seat ourselves but I noticed the last couple times if there isn't a server around people will awkwardly stand at the entrance since there's no sign or hostess. Also takes a really long time to get drinks refilled, so watch out if you're getting something really spicy! If going on the weekend I prefer lunch time, it gets really busy on weekends after 7PM.
Review Source:I originally drove to Centreville to try out BonChon Chicken. Unfortunately, their kitchen was closed, so I quickly picked a "comparable" restaurant nearby. Big mistake! This place does not serve Korean food or Korean fried chicken. However, it was full of Korean patrons. Confusing...
BBQ Chicken and Beer was really crowded last Saturday night. Since I've never been here before, I thought that was a good sign. Mistake number two! This place had a funny smell. That was probably related to the 10-15 people standing right outside the door smoking. I should have trusted my instinct to leave right away, but it was late and I was really hungry.
I ordered the grilled chicken with waffle fries and my bf ordered the fried chicken with macaroni and cheese. Mistake number three! We both rated the chicken as comparable to fast food from KFC. His macaroni and cheese looked and tasted like a knock-off brand similar to Stouffer's. The ONLY good thing about this meal was the waffle fries! When I looked around, I realized that most of the other patrons were only eating waffles fries paired with lots of beer and shot glasses. I was surprised at the amount of drunk people. Our meal totaled around $35. It was NOT worth it and a big disappointment!
Like I mentioned above, the restaurant was crowded. However, I only noticed two employees working in the dining area. In reality, the female (Bev?) was the only person actually working. She had a lot of tables to serve and then she also was working the bar area. I felt bad for her. There was another male "working," but he was too busy socializing with a group of off-duty employees who were drinking there Saturday night. It annoyed me when that male employee comped the table of young females sitting next to us. They were drinking a lot, so their bill had to be high. Sketchy!
I'm not understanding why people tell me this place compares to BonChon. Â It doesn't even come close! Â The service here was poor. Â I had to ask twice for water as the waiter was just hanging out at the bar area. Â The side dishes here were good, but the chicken and the seasoning on isn't good at all. Â I couldn't even eat two of the wings before I got sick of the taste. Â I've given this place a few tries, and it never gets better. Â I think I'll just stick to BonChon from now on.
Pricing: decent, just a pointer that this place literally charges for every little thing. Â For example: We wanted all shanks, and they charged us $1 extra for it.
Yummy chicken! Seems to be really high quality. I had the tenders appetizer with a side of macaroni and cheese. I thought the mac and cheese tasted a little pre-packaged, but overall comforting and cheesy. Yummy honey mustard!
I sat at the bar and the two waiters who were there were singing along to the radio the whole time I ate. They talked loudly and laughed a lot while I was eating and it was mildly distracting. They seemed a little sophomoric to be waiting on people, but they kept my water glass refilled and gave me good advice about the menu.
Overall, good food! Try this place!
I recently tried this place due to my brother raving about their Teri wings, so I decided to give it a shot especially since I do love me some fried chicken, but I am occasionally deterred due to the high fat, and just not good for you content that goes along with Fried chicken-but when I heard this place fries EVERYTHING in 100% Olive Oil--I gave it a shot.
I got the regular chicken tenders-they are spicy, and have a great kick, and good crunch. The batter isn't heavy or over-whelming-just right. Price is not too bad either. Now afterwards, I tried my brother's Teri wings and mannnnnn-those were even better!! A sweet, sassy crunch with a garlic punch was just deliciousness for me. I would def get those again. I also ordered the onion rings which are breaded in what seems to be Panko and it is yummy as well.
I would eat Korean fried chicken any day!!
If you are looking a replacement for Bon Chon, this is not the place. Â Still pretty good battered and fried wings. All meaty and "single" fried. Â I really liked the flavors available. Out of the three we tried I liked sweet and spicy (wet wings), then BB (dry hot wings), and then garlic wings (fried garlic, yum).
The seasoned waffle fries were good, but overhyped by my friend. I enjoyed the onion rings more, the batter reminded me of Popeyes. Â
Good prices, good flavors. I would go again.
I've only had the Crispy Chicken sandwich here and it was excellent. Â It came with waffle fries and the other reviewers are right: they're crispy and delicious.
My only complaint is the speed. Â If you're dining in, expect to wait 30+ mins for your food. Â They seem to give priority to take out orders while you're left waiting and hungry.
First timer always make this mistake, they get the BB wings and end up taking a squat the next day. Another mistake is they see the word "Crispy" teri-gold and decides to order than over the regular teri-gold, which is alot less crispier and less coating as the original teri-gold. The chicken thighs here are great as well, very juicy and good flavors.... other than that, can't go wrong with teri-gold!
Review Source:I think it's pretty good; not as good as bonchon chicken but decent korean fried chicken. Â The flavors are good and the staff is nice. Â The place is little dark though inside and the decorations are a little cheesy and not cohesive. Â
I actually like their non-Korean fried chicken items.  Any  of the sandwiches with waffle fries are really good.  Just a casual place to go, especially when Bonchon is packed.
Thursday night. I had a huge hankering for Korean wings, but my boyfriend was complaining that BonChon is too expensive for a casual date. When lots of Yelpers mentioned that BBQ C&B is better and cheaper than BonChon, we decided to give it a try. Here's how our experience was...
Service: There was no one at the host stand, and no one greeted us upon entry, so we just sat ourselves. One of the most awkward feelings for me is not knowing whether to seat yourself or wait for a server, so I almost took a star off for that. But after that mishap our server (Jasmine) was golden. Friendly, refilled our drinks at the appropriate time, and even boxed up our leftovers! The tables have buttons to call someone over, but we never had to use it.
Atmosphere: I loved the feeling of this place. Perfectly sized joint, not too sprawling, but not so intimate that you feel like everyone's watching you. There were people at the bar and a couple other tables, but I never felt like the volume was too loud. Popular Korean songs were playing at a reasonable volume, but we could still hold a conversation without raising our voices. ***Warning for parents with attentive children: They played more than one song where a Korean rapper cursed in English, the F word included!*** My boyfriend and I had a laugh about it, but be warned if you're sensitive to stuff like that.
Food: Waffle fries. Get them. So crispy and well-seasoned, comes with ketchup and nacho cheese sauce!! I had to stop myself from chowing them down like a pig so I would have room for my... GARLIC WINGS. Omg so much garlic covering a basket of crispy wings. At first I was worried they'd be too garlicky, but oh no. They were DELICIOUS and the BF and I agreed that they're better than the Tera-Gold wings. Biscuits are... just biscuits. Not as good as Popeye's, but still pretty good.
Prices: 2 sodas, waffle fries, 2 biscuits, and 20 wings set us back $37 including tip. A comparable dinner at BonChon would have cost about $10-15 more! Definitely reasonable; we were starving beforehand but still had 10 wings, a couple fries, and a biscuit leftover for the next day. :)
Overall a GREAT spot! Will definitely be coming here instead of BonChon from now on.
Stopped in for a beer and to watch Thursday night football. Â I ended up sitting a the bar and to my surprise they had Fat Tire on draft. Â I really wasn't going to order any food but after a couple of beers, I was game!
I ended up ordering their waffle fries with nacho cheese appetizer and the chicken tenders appetizers. Â The waffle fries were cooked to perfection. Â They were nicely seasoned, hot and crispy on the outside. Â The nacho cheese was your typical processed stuff but you won't care after having a few drinks. Â The chicken tenders were crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. Â They're cooked in olive oil and have a very distinct flavor. Â All in all, the food was on point. Â I will have to try the other chicken dishes they had next time. Â If it was anything like the tenders, you're in for a treat.
11/19/12: Stopped in last night for a beer. Â They have Ranger IPA on tap! Â I ended up ordering 10 sweet spice wings and my friends ordered 10 garlic wings. Â The sweet spice wings were tangy with a little bit of heat and not too sweet - FINGER LICKIN' GOOD! Â Now, the garlic wings... If you love garlic, you will love these. Â 10 wings fried in olive oil and then tossed in fresh garlic. Â As a garlic lover, these were absolutely delicious. Â One word of warning though, have breath mints handy and be prepared to brush your teeth and use a lot of mouthwash the next morning.
A Korean friend at work had recommended this place. Said that it was "Better than Bon Chon!" Being as Bon Chon is the king of fried chicken (Popeye's and KFC is just ok now.) I needed to check it out. Called in my order and it was a 20min wait.
Inside of the joint is clean, organize ...a little dark though but that maybe to put you in a relaxed mood for the pending ITIS you're about to get!!! Luckily, I ordered take out and didn't eat any until I got home. Although I didn't grab any beer while I was there I noticed that they had a stock of: Fat Tire, Flying Dog and some other craft beer to go along with the Miller and Bud Lite.
Now on to the chicken. Something has to be said to picking up food that is cooked after you order it. I ordered the Olive and Sweet and Spicy flavors. OMG...my car smelled like a fried utopia paradise! Plus both boxes were super hot so I this ain't chicken that's been sitting under a heat lamps fresh out the pan or whatever it's cooked in.
The olive chicken skin had a great crunch and it's got some kick or "twang" as my mom said. No piece that I had was undercooked and was nice and moist. Even after reheating hours later it was still pretty good and didn't dry out. The olive oil flavor is there but it's not overly apparent. No ketchup or anything else it needed on it. That takes away from the flavor.
Sweet & Spicy was good but oddly wasn't as spicy as I had expected. Don't get me wrong, it was still great but I was expecting it to be spicier than the olive oil chicken which it wasn't. Sweet flavor was good and almost similar to General Tso's chicken.
Overall I would definitely return. Haven't had Bon Chon in a while but right now this place gets my #1.
Fantastic wings here! Beer.. is beer.. but the chicken is phenomenal! Has a hint of spice to it when you first bite into it.
Atmosphere was okay, tv's seemed a little small but overall had a pleasant experience with my brother.
First entering the place was kind of dead, headed over to the bar and the chicken took about 20 min to cook overall. Very delicious!
Amazing, I don't know where I was before this! To start off the fries are AMAZINGGG, and if you're from the south like I am you know about JACK IN THE BOX...and let's just say these fries are just like theirs. Nice and crunchy! Just the way I like em...and a bit seasoned!
The chicken is nice and crunchy with just the perfect amount of seasoning! I love eating the Garlic, Sweet Spice, Regular, and Tera Wings. They're all good....a different kind of good. You just have to try it. It's nothing like Bon Chon or Cheogajip Chicken.
Enjoy!
UPDATE: SO we basically order from here like EVERY other week....and the guy that answers the phones continuously pisses off my husband. He always assumes that we're doing ordering after the first order, and doesn't even give us a total or tells us that he knows our name or phone number that's how he knows what we ordered.....we're like expecting him to ask for a name or something....
I have to change my review from 5 to 4 because they're a bit too rude for my taste. maybe i'll change it again if they decide to change.
I came here on a Sunday for lunch.
My sisters and I ordered the half order of the Olive Oil original and Olive Oil Sweet n Spicy chicken. We also ordered two orders of waffle fries.
Everything was good.
The price wasn't too bad, everything came out to around $28.
I think it's a good place for lunch or whenever you're craving chicken and beer, hence the name.
One word: Amazing! BBQ Chicken and Beer is kind of like Korean fried chicken with a Southern twist. The flavors aren't really the same as Bonchon though. The original fried chicken is fried in olive oil, so it tastes healthier and is lighter in general. They also have other flavors, such as the garlic wings and sweet spicy chicken. All are great, so just depends on your taste! They even have grilled chicken, sliders and burgers.
We ordered the olive original chicken, garlic wings and herb-marinated grilled chicken. The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned and delightfully crispy, while the grilled chicken was really tender, moist and also very flavorful.
This place definitely lives up to their name. Not only can you get delicious chicken, they also have a pretty wide selection of beer on tap. We ordered pitchers of beer and the waiter brought over frosty beer mugs for us. They also have some pretty good sides - I echo everyone else in saying, "Get the waffle fries!" We ordered two because the fries went so quickly. Their mashed potatoes and mac and cheese weren't as popular or tasty, but still pretty good.
I love Bonchon as well, but it's safe to say that the service is infinitely better here. For dining in, I would definitely choose BBQ Chicken & Beer over Bonchon. With all of our beer, chicken and sides, it only came out to $15 per person too! The only flaw about this place is that you might leave completely overstuffed.
We were feeling chicken so we narrowed it down to Bon Chon or Chicken and Beer. Â While she's been here before, I haven't and she also wanted some fries and you can't go wrong with waffle fries. Â
It wasn't too busy when we got there so service was really good and always around. Â Drinks are fairly priced, not the cheapest but I did notice that they have pretty good happy hour specials. Â The chicken was great. Â Different from the place right down the street but in a good way. Â It's their spin on chicken and it was good. Â I tried the Olive chicken with the sweet spice sauce on the side and she tried the crispy wings. Â Both were tasty and nice and hot when it came to your table. Â Waffle fries are waffle fries and they were good. Â Had a side of spicy nacho cheese.
Overall, this place is good. Â I would definitely come back again, hopefully catch happy hour for their specials.
I've only visited BBQ (Best of the Best Quality) Chicken and Beer a few times, but as new resident of NoVA it's quickly becoming a staple. Â The owners and staff are top notch, and the food is made to order... not waiting under a heat lamp. Â
The olive chicken (so named because its fried in 100% olive oil) had just the right amount amount of spice in the batter, and it didn't leave me feeling like i was covered in oil. Â The fried green beans were crispy and delicious. Â The sandwiches I've had on previous visits were fresh and filling.
Bottom line is that BBQ Chicken and Beer is wonderful food and atmosphere. Â Nothing negative to say about them. Â If you're hungry in Centreville, this is great place to start.
Richard the owner is very Polite and is a great chef... I was lucky to be his taste expert for a time when he was thinking of introducing some items to the menu...
Kalamari is the Bomb!!!!
Fried String Beans---- Yummy
Teri Gold Wings--- Huge and too Yummy
Wings of Fire---- Oh Yeah!!!!!
Chicken Tenderloin--- Off the Hook
Come on Chicken & Iced Mugs of Beer!!!! The Best
Definitely a fan of this place.
-Close to home
-Order comes out way faster than if ordering at BonChon
-Quiet and tucked away
-Prompt  and friendly service...
The only thing about my last visit was I asked our server to put two thirds of the bill on my card and the rest on the other card and another server came by asking what I meant - disclosure they both spoke perfect english - so I ended up with two separate bills instead of one bill with 2/3's on the check. Which is fine but maybe the staff could have been trained better on how to work the system to split checks or maybe use a calculator?
I get diarreah everytime I eat here... Not sure why! Yikes!
The concept of frying in olive oil is great and what not but it does give the chicken a funky taste... I choose bonchon and hooters' wings over this place.
Why are the chairs so low at this restaurant? Midgets eating chicken... That's all I think of when eating here and the funky taste of chicken... The staff here speaks English, so if you are not Korean and worry that you will not be able to communicate your order, no worries!!!!
Totally not impressed at all. Paul you suck for hyping up my expectations. Anyway my wife calls in and orders the chicken while we are driving there. We don't have the menu on hand, but this is a popular chain in Korea, so we basically know what's on the menu. We place the order to go.
We call and order the 10-piece original recipe with 2 sides ($25). As we are placing our order we ask the waitress if they have a combo deal (i.e.- family meals). She says no. When we get to the restaurant and pay, we find out that they do indeed have "family meals" and that we paid a few extra bucks for a little less food. We haven't even eaten the food and already we can taste the flavor of disappointment. I told my wife to ask the manager to throw in some biscuits since we essentially paid a few bucks more than the family meal but she was too shy to do so.
The waitress is new and inexperienced....and with "help wanted" fliers posted around the establishment, perhaps they just don't have the trained staff that they need yet.
Looking at our order, we were afraid that perhaps there was not enough food for 4 adults, so we swung by KFC to grab a few more pieces of chicken. Plus I wanted to do a taste test between one of Korea's choice chicken chains to America's venerable giant, KFC.
In Battle Chicken between Iron Chef BBQ and Iron Chef KFC....who's chicken will reign supreme????
Well it was sort of a draw. I was equally disappointed with both that night.
We may try this place again, but probably won't be our first pick. My guess is you'll have a better experience if you actually dine-in versus taking out as we didn't even get the obligatory "moo" (aka radish)...and they only gave two small condiment-sized sauce containers for 10 pieces of chicken. That's like giving you one ketchup packet for your entire order of large fries!!! Ridiculous!!!!
My most favorite fried chicken joint in the world is finally open!!! Â After months of waiting and staking out the place, Â I noticed activity inside the store and found out they had a soft-open yesterday - I immediately called up my midnight snack crew and ordered up a storm of chicken including some pitchers of beer.
This is Korean style fried chicken cooked in olive oil which gives their pieces a dry yet flavorful crispiness without the greasy oils found in typical fried chicken. Â We tried their original olive, olive sweet spice and teriyaki flavors and all were delicious. Â The interior of this place is quite swanky and there's a nice size bar as well. Â Service was excellent and they even threw in some free "service" items(more chicken basically). Â Met the mom and pops that runs the place, really nice folks. Â hmm, if I could date their daughter just imagine how grand life would be!
Bon Chon has nothing on BBQ Chicken and Beer.
