I like the *concept* of this place.  A beautiful, old theater restored to its former glory as it hosts movies and concerts in downtown Clearwater.  The execution of this I am not a fan of.  When I see that an artist I am interested in is playing here I actually cringe.  I like that the acoustics are great and you're not very far from the artist no matter where you sit (which are big plusses), but there are problems with this place.  My first concert I saw here had me sitting in a row of folding chairs they had added up front.  Not fun.  Another concert I was up in the balcony.  The seats certainly look (and feel!) like they are decades old.  I found my seat to be very uncomfortable.  For the amount of people this theater holds the size of the bathrooms is completely inadequate.  There's a good chance there will be a line for the men's room because it is so ridiculously small.  I read that soon the place will be closing for several months for renovations that will make the place larger.  I'm looking forward to coming back when the renovations are complete.

Two stars because they're at least trying. They show older movies. However ...

Movies shown here are NOT FILM. They are simply projected DVDs or Blu-Rays (so they're fuzzy on a larger screen). Sound is in STEREO, not surround. The screen is actually not very large at all.

Yes, the seats are also awful and hurt your bottom after about an hour.

Saw Labyrinth (1986) there this weekend and cringed when the pre-show cartoon was shown in the wrong aspect ratio (the image was stretched).

It's pretty obvious that these people are just showing movies from a PC on a digital projector. Is this even legal?

You can get a better experience streaming an HD movie for free at home on a decent sound system, for the same price or less.

Oldest movie theater in Florida!  Retro films, intimate concerts, & an opportunity to take the kids to a true matinee.  Priced right with great food in the Historic Cleveland District.

What  great place to see a throw back movie with the kids.  Ruth Eckerd Hall took over this venue and is raising money to re-do the theater back to its hay day.  Once a month on Saturday or Sunday afternoons they are showing family movies - we've seen Wizard of Oz and today was Willy Wonka (1971).  Next month is Goonies.  They are sponsored by Parenting Magazine (I think that is what it is called).

The price is right at $5 per person, popcorn for $3 and they serve beer!!  Concessions are priced right plus each movie they do a fun game.  Today they had chocolate bars for free (until they run out) and some had golden tickets which means you won a prize.

It is not fancy like new theaters, but that is not why you go.  My daughter's first question was where is the drink holder.  I like the charm and can't wait to go back for concerts and other movies.

I've gone to hundreds of concerts in my lifetime. I love Ruth Eckerd and small venues. This is small...and I love it! My first visit and I saw Little Feat here! I took the photo to show how intimate the venue was. The sound was excellent. It was so worth it and I intend to come back soon. Lindsey Buckingham, Southside Johnny, and Arlo Guthrie are perfect for this setting!

I went to The Capitol Theater to see the Princes Bride on the big screen and I really wish more Theaters would do things like this.

The seats were hard as hell and tiny.  though I may just be fat but since most of America is they need to expand the seats.  The concession stand was pretty ridiculous as well.  I got a popcorn which was half the price of the regular theaters and about 1/4th the size and a little stale.  I also got a 20oz. Pepsi that was only 3 times the price I would have paid at a store but it was bottled.

But I got to see a classic movie in a movie theater so I liked it.  I'm going to see Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and The Wizard of OZ next month.  Considering getting tickets to see The Goonies. in August.
