I was staying at the Hampton Inn and it was late.  I was hungry and thirsty.  Yelp helped me out.  Things went better than expected.  I got chicken parmesan pizza and a few Stella bottles.  The bartenders were as friendly as they were tattooed.  I came to see the inlaid dice bar and found a really comfortable place to hang out.  Five stars because of the AC/DC pinball machine.

I went last night with my sister for her 21st birthday. I will for sure be back! I moved to Denver from Grand Junction a year and a half ago and have had a hard time finding a neighborhood bar that was inviting, comfortable, and felt like a safe environment. The bartenders were very friendly and my sister had a great time. The drinks were strong and reasonably priced. Minus one star only because we ordered a couple of mixed shots that didn't quite have the right proportions in them, but if it weren't a special occasion I wouldn't be ordering mixed shots anyway so that's not deterring me from returning.

    I definitely recommend it!

What a dump..... I love it.  The place looks (and sometimes smells) the part of a proper dive, but if you pay attention, you'll notice a modern rockabilly/hipster/punk/modern/vintage motif.  It's a dive bar that deep down you know isn't really quite a dive because you never feel unsafe around the other patrons.  Personally I only know this because I've been there 7,000 times.  You might also come to similar conclusions about the ambiance if you can avoid blacking out after two whiskey cokes in which the amount of coca cola they ACTUALLY put in could best be described as an attempt to ADD slight color to your beverage and SUBTRACT memories from your brain.

This place is my jam. I feel comfortable here. If I'm not dressed all hipstered out, that's fine. I'm still treated well by the super friendly bartenders that work here. If I'm feeling like rocking my Friday night, they're there for me with fast service and affordable, delicious drinks. Ambiance is perfect, jukebox has some seriously awesome throwbacks, and there's always the pool table.

I love this place. For. Real.

I hope Margaret takes over the restaurant and bar scene here in Denver and forces everyone to join her brigade of culinary-pub enthusiasts.  The food here is, like next door at Jonesy's (which she also owns), out of this world.  I've lived right above both these businesses for 4 months and I have yet to find something to dislike about either.  I wish the best for the staff and ownership because Jonesy's and Horseshoe deserve a place in every future of Denver.

Walking into Horseshoe Lounge I was blindsided. I have gone to many a bar in Denver and like to think I know what makes a pub in the Mile High so spectacular.I didn't realize what I was missing as far as friendliness until I went here. In fact, I think my standard for friendly has been severly dulled by the masses of bartenders that ignore you when you walk in and mutely pour drinks without making eye contact.

This small but comfy bar was all smiles. Stephanie, the bartender, asked our names when we walked in and boomed a friendly goodbye when we stood up to leave. I felt like I was visiting old friends.

It may be less frilly and trendy than some of the other spots in Uptown but I will take a welcoming, friendly vibe over an expensive bar setup anyday.

Oh and Whiskey Wednesdays? Can we say heaven? Thank you Horseshoe Lounge for bringing me to my senses and helping me raise my bar standard! Now I must try this meatball sub...

It is what it is -- a local watering hole. A-OK. Nothing special -- but then again you're probably not special if you go here, which is great, cause special people are annoying as f#ck. Although, my heart does go out to "special" people. Anyway, very good place to grab a cold drink and just chill.

This place is just and all around great spot.  Wonderful service, super friendly, welcoming, call you by name if they recognize you.  Playful and friendly atmosphere, they got a pool table, pinball machine, jukebox just a fun vibe.  Cheap drinks on happy hour, and good price even not on happy hour.

Meatball sub is delicious! its a must try! I get it almost every time, even if I'm not that hungry, it's impossible to pass up.

Hungry? Get the meatball sub. The chef makes the meatballs from his grandma's recipe and they're amazing. My wife doesn't even care for meatballs and she loved them.

Failing that, get a different sub. I'm not sure if they make the sub rolls in-house, but they're fresh and delicious.

And if you're not hungry, it's a cool little place to hangout and play Big Buck Hunter.

I just picked-up my debit card which I left on Saturday night by mistake.  My girlfriend and I each had 4 beers at 3 bucks each. We don't drink hard alcohol, so no shots either.  The bill for 8 beers was 60 bucks plus a 20% gratuity added.  The bartender's explanation was "we'll you shouldn't have left your card here".  He was also unable to provide me with an itemized receipt.  I just want everyone to be aware of what kind of "business" this really is.  You certainly won't find me or any of my friends back there again.

Still a local favorite. I can no longer walk or ride my bike here for Happy Hour, but when I feel the urge to feel the comfort of my city, I make my way to the shoe.
Pool, pinball, a jukebox and some of the best bartenders Denver has to offer. Seriously, my favorite go to spot in the trendy Uptown area.

Did I mention there is a smoking lounge out back...if you like that type of thing.

Although I have been to Jonesy's Eatbar several times (of which I am a huge fan) I had never ventured next door into the Horseshoe Lounge until last night.  I liked the comfy, cozy, retro, not-quite-divey, atmosphere.  We grabbed a booth on the far wall.  It was dimly lit . . . the kind of place one might gather to discuss nefarious plots.  Our waitress appeared promptly.  She was impressive, like a force of nature (seriously).  She helped us make choices, brought drinks and food quickly, and was very friendly.  We split a very respectable turkey sandwich (the Gobbler) with chips and some mini corn-dogs (10 wee doggies).  This was nice finger food.  We also had the Piggie Tots with cheddar and bacon.  These delicious, greasy, filling gems are the "dark twins" of the fabulous fries available at Jonesy's.  Although they are not quite in the same gastronomic league, they certainly hit the spot.

There was a nice beer selection and my Dry Dock Apricot Blonde was cold and delicious.  If I lived in the neighborhood, this could easily be my hangout.

One of my all time favorite bars!

Went last Sunday which is my favorite day to go, and was reminded why I love this place.

    Mel.

The patio is great for posting up and enjoying some Lone Stars! Pizza is delicious, but get the Murder Tots. Tater tots smothered with blue crumbles, bacon, and hot sauce. Might have to ask for them by name, not sure if they're on the menu.

They have great drink specials everyday. The staff is very friendly and pretty cool. The place has such a great vibe and I always run into friends.

Random complement: BEST BARSTOOLS IN DENVER. Seriously comfortable and the perfect height. The dice bar top is truly genius.

But, back to Mel. She's the real reason that the Horseshoe is what it is. No bartender in Denver is more irreplaceable. She makes everyone feel cool and thats what really matters.

    Love the Horseshoe

I came here for the first time last night, and I love it.  Allow me to illustrate the reasons:

    Small neighborhood spot.
Cozy and tight bar area where you can interact.
Huge and spacious lounge with comfy couches.
Games to play whilst enjoying an inexpensive beverage or three.
A damn friendly and professional bartender and doorman.
An Olde Tyme jukebox.  (Not really, but I so rarely get to throw out "Olde Tyme".  Cut me some slack)
I wish I didn't live so far away, but I will be coming back here for certain!

    Cheers!

Chill bartenders, super reasonable drinks, great jukebox.. And its in a part of town where its easier to find parking.

Definitely a fan of this spot. Looking forward to going back next time I'm in town.

Variety of tater tots is genius. stiff drinks and a bar made of freaking dice! Kind of a rock-a-billy place. Appeals more to types of peeps who don't like anything too swanky or hoity-toity. You know, not the Audi driving crowd.
    I loved this spot.
    Fun times. Always enjoyed it.

It's like hanging out in your friends basement at the Horseshoe lounge. Comfy couches. Drinks are reasonably priced. Under $5 for beer. Great music selection from bands like The Lumineers and The Black Keys.  Pool table. Attentive Service. We sat on couches while everyone was at the bar and waitress still came over to check on us.

It's simple. It's got couches. It's never totally empty, but it's very rarely packed to the gills. There's a pool table and a couch area to rival all couch areas. Horseshoe, you alright.

The drinks here are good and I've never had any problems with the bartender being rude, plus, the crowd here, for the most part, is laid back and polite. There's no pretension in the air. The uptight suits from LoDo haven't made it this far into uptown and the sceney hipsters from Cap Hill have divier dives to drink at. Leaving nice, normal, down to earth people with a place to sit back, relax and enjoy a drink or two with friends.

Also, gents, I don't know about yours, but the ladies' bathroom here is just about as luxe as you can get for a dive bathroom. I mean, there's a velvet chair in there, for crying out loud! I'm not really the gal who goes to the loo with her lady friends, but if I was, I sure would be thankful to have the world's most comfortable chair at my disposal in the women's bathroom while my friend went to the bathroom!

Not only was this place dirty, but the drinks were incredibly overpriced and the bartenders were snobbish and rude.  The shag carpeting looks like it's never even been washed, and I'm fairly certain everything in that place is remnant furniture from a western-themed casino, circa 1964.

I even had to watch in horror as one of the sleazier bartenders served a girl drinks, even though she was slurring her speech and almost falling out of her chair while he kept offering to "drive her home".  When I intervened, he told me that "I don't tell you how to do your job sucking dick on Colfax, you don't tell me how to do mine.  You bother me again and I'm kicking you out".

    And I'd only had water.

(P.S.-The girl got out of their safely, fortunately.  Her boyfriend picked her up and took her home.)

    Dear Horseshoe,

Thank you for being less then a block from my apartment.  Also, thank you for being super cheap and having just the right amount of sketch.  Thank you for figuring out that you can mix Tang and whatever was in the well for a great drink.  Thank you for having dice on your bar that make me play Yatzee in my head every time im in there. Also, thanks for getting me drunk,

    Love,

I think my Aunt Eunice decorated this place. But it's cool - she had crazy weird style. The couches, booths, lamps and old school barrel seats are pretty dang kick ass. There's always room to perch but if there's a band playing the walls seem to move in very quickly.

If there were a little bit more bar space for ordering drinks this place would be killer. But, when it's crowded there is very little wiggle room so claustrophobia may set in. However there's a cure - the back patio. While it's not huge the tall walls offer a sense of comfort. I don't know why but I dig it.

Agave Wheat on tap is always a good thing so I usually go with that option. However, there are other great brews and the cocktails are pretty strong. I've seen many a drunktard in this place and yet the staff is so laid back they don't let the good vibe die because of some foolios.

The location is great for those of us who like to walk, stumble or drag a friend. Bathrooms are small so beware.

I really do like this place as a lounge when it's not super crowded. That being said I would suggest some solid afternoon drinking before the hood folks show up.

I like walking into a bar that has old funky sofas, jukebox, cheap drinks, good staff and yummies from Jonesy's next door. Even better that the sloshball teams play across the street and most are cool with another girl in the mix.

I have see a pretty diverse crowd of people at Horseshoe. Stoners, bikers, sloshball players. Never a hipster in sight. Once 2 guys walked in with skinny jeans, striped polos and 80s glasses. The bartender paused in his conversation for only a moment to point at the door and simple say "No".
Otherwise everyone seems to play nicely....well, usually.

My favorite time here was sitting at the bar with friends and these two older women down the bar that were HAMMERED. They were loud and just aweful. Our bartender was having a bit of fun making jokes with us about the women and giving us free drinks while we continued to hang out. At some point one of the women starts loudly talking about a 25-year old 'boy-toy' she has and how he lives right across the park. Well, I have a 25-year old guy friend that lives across the park too so while she is texting her guy to see if he will come 'play', I text my buddy to let him know I'm at his watering hole... YEP, they were the same dude. He calls me and says "Weird, this other person just texted me almost the same thing".... LOL, he never showed. I assume the shame was tooo much.

It was a rainy Saturday afternoon and we were looking for a laid back, no frill establishment to grab a couple of drinks.  If I remember correctly, I think my partner in crime was specifically looking for a place that "wasn't crowded or dumb."  Enter the Horseshoe Lounge and both criteria were met.

The place is dark and dim, but in a cozy sort of way and the vibe here is greaser/biker.  Rock and roll on the speakers with cheap booze and stiff drinks, my kind place.

The pizza is pretty damn good and the beers (which the Horseshoe has plenty to choose from) are cheap especially during happy hour.  The bartenders are friendly and make sure you don't go thirsty.  I only wish this was in my neighborhood, I'd be a regular for sure.

My pick for the after work group happy hour for the hipster in you.  The Shoe (as it is affectionately referred) is somewhat of a hidden gem.  The crowd varies a little between laid back hipsters and those getting off work downtown.  The decor sometimes sticks out more than your fellow patrons.

You'll walk up to a bar made of thousands of dice which seems to be a talking point for a lot of online reviewers but frankly is hardly noticeable with so much going on in there.  The random assortment of crap behind the bar might remind you of a place that's been around far longer than a mere 5 years.  Order a mixed drink, it will be strong. Then go to the living room which will remind you of your grandma's basement.  The furniture is retro, the wall is glittery. There are couches and over sized chairs rather than high tops or tables. There is a pool table but beware the regulars who pull their own cues out of black vinyl bags.

I say go when you're looking for something laid back and easy. Don't get dressed up unless your version of dressed up entails black jeans. Order the pepperoni pizza if you get hungry. And if you ever solve the mystery of why there is a lounge chair in the women's restroom, let me know.

I heart you Horseshoe!  I do.  I really do.  Even though I technically "live" in Dallas I'm in Denver more than not.  I'm always on the lookout for hole-in-the-wall bars and Horseshoe fits the bill.  Pretty much only locals go there....I'm starting to consider myself a Denver local even if my zip code doesn't match.

Great drinks poured by great bartenders.  Eclectic crowd.  I've never had the tater tots but I've seen them come out and they look fantastic.

My favorite weird bar in Denver. I mean, who else could pull off a glittery black wall?

Also notable: very cool bar with die (as in dice) in it, funky thrift store furniture and - it's yet to fail me in the numerous times I've been here - amazing drink specials. Oh, and did I mention the Tots? Deliciously baked and crunchy.

Life's always good at the Horseshoe Lounge.

This is my type of joint.  The bar itself has an ugly counter, right out of the 70's or 80's.  It's sticky.  The rock music was quite loud for a bar, which is IMO a good thing.  There were tabs everywhere on the bar from past customers who have left already.  The bartender seemed to know everyone in the joint but me, and was quite the social guy, without detracting from his service of me, the outsider.  They've got a decent selection of beers and liquors.  They've also got a little lounge area and a pool table.

If I lived anywhere near this joint, I'd be one of the cats the bartender knew.

I've heard it described as your friends cool game room/bar in the basement. And, well, yeah that is a pretty good way to put it.

The bartenders I've had there mine as well be your friend whose basement your hanging out in. I found them to be very friendly and easy to talk to. Drinks are strong and a good selection of beer. Ambiance is pretty cool and relaxed. Nice booths. Some pool tables. You know typical bar stuff, but once again it feels like hanging out in your friends game room. Anyways, pretty much always a good time. Only knock is one time I was there and between the crowd and the music it felt like a 90's high school basement party. Hell that might not even be a knock against it for some people, but it did weird me out a little.

Overall though, you should check this place out. Fun bar that you should go to at least a few times.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the lovely bartendress who booted the rowdy Bulls super-fan on Sunday night so that we, as well as other patrons, could enjoy this (not)sports bar.

No, this is not a sports bar, even though there are two TVs.  It's a hang-out, and drink beer, and play pool, and eat tots bar.  It's also in a cool area that's on the verge of becoming the next LoDo, but that's not their fault.  The Tavern is just down the street (per the bartendress to the rowdy Bulls fan).

I really like the atmosphere and the comfy seats in the back.  I also like that it's a pleasant bike ride for us through a very lovingly restored area of Five Points.  It's also from the folks who brought you Jonesy's, Barcar, and Stingray (I've which I haven't had the pleasure to go to yet).  This lady should seriously open more bars, beginning with one by our house.  The world needs more clever incarnations of tater-tots.

Prices are not outrageous and they have daily specials.  They also have a decent selection of local craft brews and Lone Star for the Texan boyfriend.

The one downfall is the narrow patio in the back.  It's pretty much a "smokers only" patio as it doesn't seem to have any other redeeming qualities.  But hey, it's somewhere for them to go that doesn't involve me walking through a cloud of smoke to get inside.  I'll take it.

I still have great affection for the Horseshoe, even if I don't visit as often as I used to. Lately there seem to be a lot of baseball caps here - indicative that our favorite neighborhood bar isn't quite as much as a dive as it used to be? You decide.

Oh, and try the pepperoni pizza. I call it popperoni. Order one and you'll see why.

The only thing I'd like to see here (to make up for all the baseball caps) is a big ole honkin' tv like my grandparents used to own. You know, standing on four stilty legs, encased in faux-wood, a convex screen showing black and white flicks (or fuzz even) with a round dial. Yep.

Oh hell yeah! I've found my Denver bar. It helps that it's right around the corner from my house. I love it's grimey, naughty, sloppy, mellow feel. The staff is all capable.
    The drinks are poured strong.
The pizza is good and better the later in the night it is.
The couches...well, let's just not put these under black lights.
There are a couple TV's but they don't overwhelm you.
The juke box kinda of lacks.
    It's stumbling distance!

I'm pretty sure I'm not part of the demographic the Horseshoe was created to serve, and yet when I went in there the other evening with my daughter, with tater tots being our primary motivation, I managed to have a decent time.   I was in one of those sorts of moods where I looked around and thought about why I was years older than everyone else in the place, and not a drinker.  Whatever.

It was fine.  I enjoyed the dice on the bar, the smooth cool bartenders, the friendly doorman, a refreshing cola with lime, and buffalo tater tots we shared.

My daughter kept lamenting about bringing her mom to this place, as it's one of the places she sometimes goes to with her friends.  I can understand that.

It would have been nice if Denver had a place like this back in the 70s when I was young & carefree.   Because it is a very cool place.

You really need to Happy Hour at the Horseshoe Lounge.  Beers are half price, service is speedy (order at the bar), and the the bartenders are always waaay friendly and down to earth.
The furniture is old... like 70's style old with red carpet.... like an outdated basement... but with a big flat screen TV.  The couches are comfy too!  If you want something more intimate, there are some small booths along the wall and the window.  There is a pool table and a pinball machine.  A place with a pinball machine always ranks good in my book.
If you're hungry, they have good, greasy, thin crust pizza.  The tater tots are also pretty tasty -- try the buffalo ones.  They also serve subs, but I haven't tried those.  This is also the place where I tried my first Jameson & ginger ale (based on a poster on their wall) ... mmm mmm good.

If you're a girly, make sure you know how to work a toilet before you come.  On more than one occasion I've had to mess with the inner workings inside the tank to either get the toilet to flush or for the tank to fill up with water again.
    Otherwise... fantastic place!!

I dig the friendly and funny bartenders.
    I DIG the Tots.
I dig the excellent beer and liquor selection (can't go wrong with 5 Barrel on tap).

I could remove a star cause they wouldn't flow me a free beer the day AFTER my birthday, even though I asked for it with a candy grill in my mouth.  But I won't, cause I wouldn't have obliged me either.

After October's Elite event a couple of Yelpers headed over here to continue the fun we were having that evening. I must admit that I drunk before I stepped foot in the place and promised not to drink anymore. Well I wasn't in there but a minute before I was ordering myself a drink.

Those that were there remember more of that night that I did. I remember an annoyed girlfriend, a Yelper plopping into my lap, a conversation about snow and winter and a bunch of fuzzy looking people. What I don't remember was my little stealing of tater tots from someone's table. Thankfully in my drunken state, I was able to realize shortly after taking them, that they were not mine and I returned them. I had fun here and definitely would go back when sober, to really get a feel for the place.

My first time here was with the Yelpers after the GD elite event and I must thank our lovely CM, Tiffany, for ordering the buffalo tater tots!  They are delicious!!!  Then I realized on my next visit that they have a variety of flavors so make sure you ask!  I think one of them is pizza tater tots??

Anyway, I was really happy with this place.  The bartenders and the door guy are absolutely amazing and friendly.  And no, they are not just nice to me because I showered them with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Laffy Taffy, and Nerds.  This is because they are genuinely great...but I'm sure if you bring those three to the bar you're guaranteed to be in their good graces.

The juke box is great, they have a pool table, a nice patio, plush couches....  Check this place out, you won't leave disappointed.

Sure, sure. The Horseshoe is cozy with big couches, cushiony booths and nice bar stools. Yeah, the have a phenomenally good jukebox. Okay, they have cheap drinks and friendly bar staff. But, seriously. How come no one has mentioned the tater tot dishes they make? Am I really the only fan of the tater tot? Impossible.

The Horseshoe is a fun neighborhood bar with a really casual atmosphere and delicious food. Plus it just seems like one of those bars where it's quite easy to get yourself into a bit of trouble. Why wouldn't you go?
