This was my second visit there. I got take out this time. I sat at the bar while I waited for my food. I love the place. The ladies that work there are very charming. They introduce themselves and call you by your name. They're friendly and marbe a little flirtatious. But I'm a single guy, so I like that. I think it's a Great Place.

After all the generally great reviews on food quality but warnings on service, we should have known better. I took the family here today for dinner.

Service started out promising (Waitress was nice,) but then in an mostly empty dining room she forgot about bringing an extra plate.

We ordered the Crispy Spring Rolls as my wife and daughter are vegetarian. For $6.95 we really expected better. The spring rolls were greasy, likely fried at too low a temperature and the filling was forgettable.  Wife and kid shared the Red Curry (tofu) with rice. Even ordered mild it was too spicy for the 3 year old so she ate plain rice. However, for my wife and I it was fine and tasted good. I ordered the Spicy Cashew Nuts with tofu thinking it was vegetarian. Turns out it had a healthy dose of fish sauce with it. However, the taste was very good for me as I don't like the typical Thai curry drenched in coconut milk. One note it was a very oily dish with a layer floating over the entire plate. The cashews and Umami, sweet and hot flavors were balanced perfectly. However, it would be nice if the menu items denoted which dishes are truly vegetarian.

It took multiple attempts to flag down the waitress to get a plate as she forgot at least twice. The bad service plus the generally "meh" dishes will mean we won't be back to NK as there are several other good options nearby. For us, the quality king at a higher price is Ginger Thai near I-10 and Hwy 6. Close to NK there's Thai House which has great service and good food.

Despite our bad experience I'd say try NK for yourself but first go to these places I mentioned for some great Thai food.

Went here on hubby's desire...regretted it. Place was empty and service sucked. Hate to think what it's like when it's full. We got the spring rolls which were loaded with oil and just nasty. The yellow curry was decent but spicy even though we ordered mild for our toddler. The cashew entree was loaded with fish sauce and oil. If you want good Thai, skip this place and go across the street to Thai House or to Ginger Thai. Will not be coming here again.

I have been a regular customer for five years and I can say without reservation that the food, drink and service are first class. Weekends are especially lively and high scenery is great. I highly recommend Naam Khao when you are ready to eat or party.

Heard about this place from a friend... and let me just put it out there that I try to go into a new Thai place not thinking about Thai Gourmet (my all time fav) or else I compare.

Their Laos papaya salad is damn good.  I asked for hot but I preferred Thai hot however my friend doesn't eat as spicy as we so we settled for hot.  Had the right amount of kick for me although my friend was dying.  oops.

Pad Ka Prow- too much green beans not enough beef and basil IMO.

Beef Jerky- tasty!  Comes with a stinky sauce but us asians are used to those flavors. LOL.

Ckn wings- your normal every day chicken wing flavored oh so lightly but also comes w/ the stinky sauce.  Not bad but I've had better

Plaa Rad Prik- Good size tilapia and it came out looking amazing.  Lack a bit of flavor IMO but good enough to eat.

We also ordered sticky rice to eat because you can't have Laos food w/o it, right?

I've been on the search for good thai food in Texas for years. I lucked up a couple of weeks ago and found a good one in Carrollton Texas. Then I tried Naam Khao in Houston and it is by far THE BEST thai in Texas. Period! I love that they use fresh ingredients to alter the levels of spiciness instead of forcing spicy oils and jarred spices to make the dishes spicy. The customer service was great too. We ordered thai fried rice, level HOT. and Tom Yum Soup level HOT. Both were spicy enough to knock our socks off, but that's the way we like it. The food was sooo good. Apparently this place turns into a nightclub after they close the dining area. We were there when they closed and they turned the music up a bit and everyone was laughing and enjoying themselves. Even the customers. I read some of the earlier reviews about this place where people were complaining about the customer service and the staff joking around too much. I didn't feel the same way. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They were happy. There is nothing wrong with that. I can't wait to go back. Again, the BEST thai in TEXAS. The whole state. PERIOD.

Very good food.  Chicken Sate was excellent with and awesome peanut sauce. Pad Thai was very good. Massamum curry was one of the best I have ever had. Will definitely be back to try the red and green curries.

The food here is very good. It's a shame their staff is wretched!

I was waiting at the bar today for my to go order (I won't dine in here any longer) and the waitress came up and handed me the restaurant's phone and insisted I give another customer driving directions. I am happy to help others when I can but I was kinda turned off that I was interrupted to do something that she should have been able to do herself, and she was rude to boot!

My reasons for no longer dining in.. Wait staff is unattentive. They are too busy socializing at the bar to wait on tables. One waitress was actually taking shots at the bar with customers while also waiting on us, a huge TABC no-no!

I am once again, on the YELP train. Topic the ever evolving "Naam Khao (NK)".

    DAY 1:

I have a contemporary who asked me to meet them for a tasty libation. When I asked him where he was he said, "NK, get over here!". I thought about it and decided, because he is such a good guy, to revisit NK (Notwithstanding, I expected the NK cadre to present with the usual psychodrama, drunkeness and slipshod service etc.). GUESS WHAT . . . .

My friend was seated at the interior bar when I arrived, we typically sit outdoors (first bad sign I thought). I entered and was greeted in a FRIENDLY way by the beautiful bartender (who I know from past experience is also a fantastic Thai cuisine aficianado and gastronomy practitioner).

Furthermore, I noticed the proprietor seated at the bar as well, we did not speak initially because she was upset with me and her feelings were hurt as the result of my previous (and on point) scathing review. However, it was never personal.  I happen to really like the lady.

Nevertheless, I was treated professionally i.e. employees were attentive, responsive, and possessed good attitudes AND WERE NOT DRUNK which was conducive to me spending my money, as opposed to turning around and walking out to spend my money elsewhere. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the company of my friend, and the other patrons, as well as, that of the employees and owner. By golly I'd like to think they finally got it.

    DAY 2:

I have a contemporary who asked me to meet them for a tasty libation. When I asked him where he was he said, "NK, get over here!". I thought about it and decided, because THE EXPERIENCE ON DAY ONE WAS SO GREAT, TO AGAIN HEAD OVER TO "NAAM KHAO" AND SPEND SOME OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY!

The place was ROCKING. There was a band pumping out some music. Looked like a private party. EVERYONE WAS HAPPY AS FAR AS I COULD DISCERN. Even the Matriarch/Owner was WORKING ((she actually took my order (OUTSIDE)) CLEANED THE CIGAR ASHTRAY AND BROUGHT ME MY DRINK FAST!! I was shocked!!!!!  The SERVICE WAS GREAT! THERE IS A GOD!!!

I hope they stay the course. It is a different positive vibe at NK because it seemed like the owners and employees are WORKING FOR THE CUSTOMERS AND NOT TO ENTERTAIN THEMSELVES TO THE CUSTOMERS DETRIMENT AND EXPENSE. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND YOU WILL EARN CUSTOMERS AND KEEP THEM COMING BACK!

P.S. I did not eat so my comments are not related to or intended for the dine-in service

Been here several times and everything I have ordered has been tasty.  Not too spicy.  Service can be slow at times, but the servers (owner?) are super friendly and the value is good.  The restaurant is quiet and dark during lunch, usually not packed.  This is a little unusual for the Energy Corridor, but it is most welcome, especially in the summer heat.  My favorite is the green curry chicken, but my hubby loves the pad thai.  Will definitely be back.

Love this place! The curry is amazing!  Best Thai food in Houston and reasonably priced.

OK, I finally returned to this place after trying all the other great Thai places.  This is still my favorite.  The papaya salad is crisp, spicy, and oh so good!  Their green curry just can't be beat.  I'm gonna have to call this MY FAVORITE at this time!
    And that says a lot!!
*I never order anything but curry when I get Thai, but my man got an amazing ginger fish dish, that just might change that!!

Not impressed. Had lunch here and only one table was there, so you'd think we'd get some attentive and quick service? Nope. After waiting around the door for ages, we sat at the bar and remembered the good ole days... the old Le Mistral bar and all its glory... sadly, we were not at Le Mistral, we were here at Naam Khao, where the woman behind the bar had no clue what they had to offer, and took 10 minutes to get us water, and another five minutes to let me know there were options for hot tea. and which one would I like. I had specified green tea but clearly that wasn't enough. Next!
We just wanted some Tom Yum and to share some apps, pretty simple. Nope, for some reason this was mind boggling to this woman, who was probably the owner since her boobs were falling out and hopefully only the owner can get away with that, yet she knew less about the place than the busser. We ordered tom yum, some satay, some edamame, and some papaya salad... after several minutes she said they were out of papaya, so we went with cucumber. Several more minutes we got our soup. When we were nearly done with that, we got our satay, than later on the edamame, then right when we were done we go the cucumber salad... WHAT THE HECK???? the sequence of our foods was so ridiculous that we had to laugh, but seriously I am not going back there if I can help it.. The food that we did end up with was not very good; the shrimp tom yum had bits of chicken in it, and I'm not against chicken but if I order a friggin shrimp dish, that means I want shrimp. Not chicken! Ugh, totally didn't fulfill my Thai cravings so luckily Thai Cottage is nearby, fast and tasty.
The best part about this place was probably the woman's boobs, and I'm not into boobs but my male dining companions loved having something to look at in between all of our crazy-slow courses. I was just happy that they enjoyed something there because I sure didn't. Maybe if there was a hot bartender I would have given it a second thought... then again if I had some drinks this whole review could have taken another turn.

Thai iced tea is THE best and spicy basil fried rice. Yum

Spicy basil fried rice.    Dessert sticky rice/egg custard

Spicy basil fried rice and tofu with a Singha!

    Great food!

Let me add- I am not a great fan of Thai- but this is pretty good.  Only complaint is sometimes the service is slow- not initially, not getting your first drink or food, just the check back and getting the check- otherwise- this is a good place.  And the staff are very friendly.

It's located in a strip mall on Eldrdige.  There's a little fountain in the front with a few trees.  Walked inside, and it looked decent.  The bar area was pretty large, and there were plenty of tables.

The food on the other hand...not so great.  Went with a group of five people, and our food took forever to come.  I ordered the Pad-See-Ew, my go-to dish at any Thai restaurant.  The portion was decent, the taste was not.  It was very dry and bland.  I left full, but not satisfied.

Neither the service nor the food was very good. The waitress was waiting six to seven tables by herself which made for a subpar experience. A few orders were incorrectly delivered. And most importantly, my pad thai was VERY meagerly spiced.  Sorry Naam Khao, but this will be our last dance.

So I went there on a Tuesday Evening after 8. We were the only ones there. Service sucks, but food is pretty good. pad thai was cooked well but their pad kee mao was nasty. It had a weird smell. I also had the nam tok. It was pretty good. I only went here because of a coupon. Most probably will not go back. SERVICE SUCKS!

The ambiance is more of a sports bar than a Thai restaurant. They had the basketball game on a big screen TV (with sound on) in the main dining room while we were there last night.

The food was excellent, we started with the steamed dumplings and chicken sate, and as entrees had the Red Curry, Kee Mao Noodles, and Mussamun Curry. The Chang beer was an excellent compliment to the spicy food, which was hot and delicious.

The reputation for slow service that I read in other reviews is deserved. The most disappointing aspect of the meal was that the entrees were served individually. That is, one came out, then we waited awhile, the next one was served, and we waited an exceptionally long time for the third entree to be served. My daughter and I were over halfway through the meal before my husband's was served.

I will come back for takeout, but probably won't sit and eat in the restaurant again.

I ordered green curry with tofu to-go from Naam Khao. The food is more traditional/less Americanized than any other Thai restaurant I've found in Houston. So if that's what you're looking for, I highly recommend Naam Khao.

The taste wasn't quite what I was looking for, but  did enjoy it. The spice level was perfect, and it was ready on time when I came to pick it up.

Spicy Basil Fried Ride and Red Curry please.  This meal is a staple in our diet when we want some quick take-out that tastes good.  The price isn't that bad and the food is good.

We've eaten there once and the service was a little slow, but we usually get carry-out, which is top notch.  Also, one time they switched our order with someone else that order to-go at the same time and we didn't notice until we were home.  Luckily we liked what the other person ordered.  So be sure to check your food before you leave.

I went here because all the reviews were good, but i thought it was downright awful.  We ordered 3 different meals and none of them were good.  The pad thai was very dry and had no flavor at all.  Our beef dish was simply noodles in a poor tasting broth.  And the fried rice that was recommended to us was not very good.

I have had much better Thai food and do not plan on going back.

The food was delicious. I had the Red Curry and my wife had the Pad Thai. When we lived in Florida we had a great Thai restaurant that we frequented, and it seems like Naam Khao is a great replacement so far. We will be back to try other dishes.

I was here for a Wednesday night dinner and was surprised to see the place almost empty at 8:00 p.m. N also I think the owner was also quite drunk. I was really very hungry and felt like made a wrong decision of coming here. They asked me to sit where ever I wanted - n I was confused with so many options.

The place is clean and the waitress was very professional while taking the order.

As I had a hectic day, was quite happy to see a full bar.   Decided to check out their cabaranet house wine. It was very good. Their crispy spring rolls were very oily and did not feel like eating them once the Tofu Panang Curry was here. The curry was marvellicious!

    Yay! I'm a fan...

Naams is a great place, Ive been dozens of times and continue to go. They serve authentic Thai food cooked by Thai cooks. Dine in or take out. They aren't as heavy on the oil compared to most Thai places, and its not as Americanized. (Ask for Thai hot if you dare.)  Service may be a little slow at times but they don't have a big staff. The staff however is wonderful. They are friendly, down to earth and really nice. This is a restaurant by day then bar after 10pm. Great place to hang out and meet new people. You should definitely give this place a try if you are considering it.

So, I've been to Naam Khao for lunch 4 times now.  I have really enjoyed the food all four times.  The first time I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice with chicken.  For lunches 2 and 3, I ordered the Spicy Basil Fried Rice.  Once with chicken and the next time with beef.  For the fourth visit to Naam Khao, I ordered the Spicy Snow Peas with beef.  So far, if I had pick a favorite, I would go with the Spicy Basil Fried Rice (with chicken).  The very spicy snow peas would come at a close second though.

As Eva K mentioned, the first time we had lunch here, there was a problem with their computer.  So you had to pay with cash. I would have cared less about this problem if they would have informed us before we ordered/ate our food.  Since then, I have had no more complaints about the service.

So I've made it back here twice now (once an UYE Westsiders lunch, hey where are ya'll reviews?!) since that unfortunate 2 star kind of day and I must say this has become one of my favorite lunch spots.

The $7.95 deal is pretty freakin' amazing too and it highlights a different soup and curry everyday of the week!

So far I've had the Red Curry - Coconut Milk, Bamboo Shoots, Bell Pepper and Basil, Green Curry - Coconut Milk, Eggplant, Green Beans and Basil, and the Mussamun Curry -Mussamun with Coconut Milk, Potatoes and Peanuts.  All were delicious and extremely fresh tasting and spicy, yesssss!  The Red Curry definitely gave me a small bout of hiccups!

The lunch special includes a small bowl of soup, Ive had their Tom Yum which was incredible, as well as their Tom Yum Tofu equally satisfying.  The egg roll that is served along with the rice and curry is pretty darn yummy and crispy, who doesn't love a nice crisp egg roll!  I also ended up licking the side sauce for the egg roll out of the little serving pot, I must say it was quite addictive.

I've also tried some entrees, aka snuck a couple bites off of Stephen R's plate, he has ordered the Spicy Eggplant dish twice now, all entrees come with your choice of Chicken, Beef, Pork, Tofu or Shrimp.
The first time we went though he ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice, oh my goodness, one word - CRACK!

I'm really glad that I can grant them 4 stars now, it must have just been a crap day!  The food is marvelous though and I'm looking forward to my next lunch here already.  Now let's bring up their rating yelpers!

My husband and I were at my in-laws place doing about 7 loads of laundry when the clock struck 9:15.  Dinner?  But how? It's Sunday night and we're way outside the loop.  What will be open this late on a Sunday night?  Then my husband recalled a place that was open right after Ike, and remembered how the manager told him they were "always open".  We hopped in the car and sure enough, Naam Khao was open!  As we walked in we noted how hoppin' the bar was, complete with 3 LCD TVs.  The bar had sort of a sports bar feel, and a specials board outside detailed the happy hour deals for the Rockets game.  The bar side had some "interesting clientele" and both of us also were a little shocked to see the female Thai bartenders running around in tiny shorts.  Did we just walk into a Thai massage place?  Hmm...but we decided to give the food a shot anyway.  We sat down at a booth in the restaurant side and placed our order.  We waited about 20 minutes for my husbands soup to come out, and another 45 for our main entrees.   While the food was great, the service was incredibly slow.  They had 3 people working the bar, and only one waitress in the entire restaurant (with about 5 parties waiting for their food).  I had the spicy basil fried rice--mmm, I was in garlic heaven!!  I could have done with more basil, but I was still  very happy with my selection.  My husband had the red curry which was a tad watery, but was loaded with chicken and veggies.  I would definitely come back to this place, but maybe not so late at night.
