Just Ok.  My Guiness burger arrived just wee bit underdone.  I ordered Medium.  The flag fries were ok.  Don't care for the high chair seating and there really aren't any lower seats or booths.  OK spot for a burger and a beer, but just OK..This is really close to my home, but next time I think I will drive a little furhter for something better.

Went to this place a while back with a group and it took 20 min for a drink and over an hour for so so bar food. The group decided to try it again since the TV Rescue and and they should have let it die! Service was much better but when I took a bite of my Chicken Klub (as they called it) and it crunched and bounced back I thoufgt it was my imagination. After a second bite and further inspection I found I had been served a RAW Chicken Klub! When I told the server she casually ask if I wanted it heated up!. At that point 8 of us left and went 1/4 mile down the road to Maury's Tiny Cove and had a WONDERFUL meal! PS RAW chicken does not sit well in the human digestive system! Nor does this Bar & Grill!

I really don't understand some reviews. I've been to 'The Public House' aka Black sheep numerous times, before and after 'Bar Rescue' and have never encountered an 'unpleasant smell'. I smell burgers, and pizza, and the occasional waft of a perfect pour Guinness.

The wait staff is super friendly, happy to answer any questions, and make suggestions based on their opinion, not what is being 'pushed' that day.
I've never had a bad burger, I vary from the Baa Baa black sheep, to Cheviot's finest, never have I been disappointed. The pizza is a pleasant surprise, you'd think with the burger menu and the 'Irish' theme, pizza would be out of their 'sweet spot' but it's not I've had it four times and each has been damn good! Bar Rescue said Cheviot is mostly German/Irish...but an Italian must have slipped in while no one was looking...

I'm not there enough that I'm known, but each time, I'm made to feel that way. I'm not a number, I'm not a next step to a tip, I'm not an annoyance. (Well I may be, but I'm not made to feel that way)
The owner has cleared our table, been quick with a smile ,and when he asks how everything was, it's not just to make conversation, he listens and talks with you, not at you.

Please....go here...get yourself the fried pickles, order a 'Guinness' ..trust me...it's all in the pour...get a burger or split a pizza...and enjoy. It's not complicated. If they are crowded, guess what, it may take a minute to get to you, that's how a successful business is...

If this is not what you are looking for, by all means, enjoy your experience at Applebee's or 'TGIF's....We all know, bicycles, and musical instruments hanging from the wall  and posters from the 80's is the mark of a great bar/restaurant... but if you want an experience, and help a small business grow....The Pubic House is where you belong.

The reviews on here scared me, but I enjoyed the place (like a lot of reviewers, I saw the place on Bar Rescue). I seriously think I went to a different place than everyone else!! It smelled nice inside, like coffee and scented candles. I had a Guiness burger and flag fries (fried potatoes, zucchini and carrots). Both of which were tasty. Friendly service. The place looked clean and I liked the decor. The apple pie drink didn't taste like apple pie, but it was good, nonetheless. I would not hesitate to go back. Usually I tend to agree with yelp reviews, but this place should definitely have higher ratings.

It's pretty sad to see a bar in such a great location go through this slow and painful decline process. Yes I know they tried to change things around with the "Bar Rescue" show and yes it was "better" for a few months after that show... but now it feels like they are in decline again.

So what is wrong with it exactly? Well it looks and feels dirty inside once again. Can't believe I'm saying this but it almost feels like they need to rip out everything the Bar Rescue people did (much of which was poorly done and falling apart now) and bring in a real designer to make the place look cleaner and more professional. The current look just makes me want to take a walk down the street more than ever.

Then they need to clean the kitchen (again) and redo the menu (again) taking off the things that are not working and leaving the rest making sure to retain oldschool favorites such as the bah bah burger and the duke sandwiches.

Last but not least drop your drink prices a bit and bring in some better music. Do that and you'll get some new clients in there. As it stands right now people have very few reasons to go here to drink with so many other (better) options in the area.

My husband and I were excited to go to The Public House after we saw it's transformation on Bar Rescue. We drove all the way from Columbus to visit! Upon walking in, a horrible, sewage-like smell hits you hard. Obviously the building is old, but surely something can be done about that? I was immediately a little sick to my stomach. We were there on a Sunday around 5pm, one other couple was dining at a table. The tables were all bistro height with stools. Every table we tried was dangerously wobbly. My stool felt like it was going to collapse. The service was just OK...nothing spectacular. My husband ordered the Duke sandwich (delicious but messy), and I had the ham and swiss sandwich (forget the name) which was also tasty. Wallpaper and paint was peeling in places, just looks a little old already.

Glad we went, but won't make the drive down again!

Went on the spur of the moment on a Thursday night.  I really wanted to like this place but it fell short.  The wine selection is Sutter Home and my Sam Adams Oktoberfest was flat, warm and in a dirty glass. The pretzels were good but not good enough to make us want to return.

I'm a big fan of the Spike TV show Bar Rescue.  After watching the Black Sheep/Public House episode, my wife and I decided to give this place shot.

Walking in I was immediately greeted with a less than pleasant odor that resembled sewage.  We were left to greet ourselves and we walked to the back to find a seat where I could watch the Ohio U - Penn St. football game.  Our first choice along the wall was a bit chilly for us (the vents blow right on those tables), so we moved back near the patio entrance.

Our server greeted us about 3 minutes later.  This was the first time I saw a staff member in the place.  We started with waters as we perused the menu.  There were only 2 other tables with customers at this time, but our waters came out some 5 minutes later.  My wife had a difficult time choosing for lunch, but  I decided on the Half Duke and she got the BLT with fried pickles as an appetizer.  The fried pickles too over 10 minutes to come out, but were delicious.  Our meals took probably 10 more minutes.  The BLT was huge with copious amounts of lettuce and tomato.  Some of the bacon was undercooked.  My 1/2 Duke (capacola, pepperoni and salami with lettuce and cheese) was delicious.  If we had any complaints about our meals it was that they were both just a tad messy.  But this is a small complaint.

When our pickles came out I ordered a draft Palm (Belgian wheat beer) and a Bushmills Apple Pie for my wife (featured on Bar Rescue).  My beer came out after a few minutes, but the Apple Pie did not.  Our food came and it seemed as if she forgot the Apple Pie (after she bragged about how good she makes one).

Midway through the meal we flagged her down and told her to cancel the Apple Pie.  She looked sad, but didn't apologize for forgetting.  I went out back to check out the "beer garden" patio, which was very nice.  No one was outside, so I wasn't sure if it was open for service at the time.  What I did discover is that the sewage smell I thought had dissipated from the front entrance was, in fact, still present as it hit me as soon as I walked back in the door.

We got our check and paid on the way out.  A few observations of the operation as it was (Saturday afternoon):  Our server was by herself behind the bar and running tables.  It made sense when we got there, but as soon as just 2 more tables came it was obvious that she was overwhelmed.  A table that sat about 15 minutes after we did ate and was gone before us.  Several people were getting up to FIND the server for refills.  I didn't even know our servers name until we saw it on the check.  Finally, as we were ready to leave, I saw someone else helping bus tables.  Apparently it was someone from the kitchen.

I liked the decor and theme of the place.  It felt like we could have been inside of an Irish pub, but the service did not stack up to expectation.  If this is how things go during slow times, I'll be staying away during peak hours.

Great patio for chilling and having a good conversation with friends. The prices are fine and average for westside bars. The service can be slow, so hopefully this will get ironed out as time passes. I am not sure if the downstairs area is still used on the weekends as a bumping dance area. It reminds me of a frat basement, but hey, sometimes that's what you're in the mood for. The redesign leaves a weird taste in my mouth as the sheep wallpaper make little sense and rather slipshod bathroom make me want to wait until I get home. (fix the walls and actually spruce it up please) TV's are easily viewed from any seat, so you'll have no trouble watching a game.

As far as Cheviot bars go, this is a little above average, but still has some room for improvement. While I will probably revisit, it is not my first choice by a long shot. I am not sure if PH wants to portray a classier vibe or something, but it needs to work on some fundamentals before it can become the best of the west.

*Oh, and maybe have one or two healthy items on the menu. Not everyone eats fried greasy food.

Gosh do I want to like this place more than I do...There has been a buzz going around that Bar Rescue recently filmed an episode here.  But if they did, it hasn't been rescued in my opinion.

Black Sheep in Cheviot recently changed its name to Public House and so my husband, a friend and I decided to try to see what has changed.  Black Sheep was a pretty standard bar in Cheviot, a little divey but always good enough.  They always had a nice patio and decent bar food.

Upon walking in, our impression was that very little had changed in its new incarnation.  Some new wallpaper on the walls and a couple new tables inside and out are about all that has changed with the decor.  We were surprised to see that they did absolutely nothing with the dungeon in the basement that used to be a pretty happening dancing spot on the West Side.

We had specifically come to have dinner, but left with nothing in our stomachs.  The three of us are all healthy eaters and the menu left us with ZERO options.  There is nothing green anywhere on the menu, not even a side salad.  No grilled chicken breasts, turkey burgers or veggie burgers.  I have eaten at many, many, many bars and this is the first one I have ever encountered where there was literally nothing on the menu that I could eat healthfully.  If you are a fan of angus burgers or pizza, you will walk away with food no problem...

So the three of us decided to have a quick drink and find dinner elsewhere.  Problem was we couldn't get service.  After sitting for about 5-7 minutes, a waitress stopped by and said she would be back.  We waited for another 5-7 minutes before she came back. Mind you, this was a Wednesday.  The bar was no where near packed.

When we finally got service, we ordered 2 drinks... A Bushmills Summer Special and a Bushmills Orange Flair- both on their specialty drinks menu ($5.75 each).  My friends Summer Special and my husband's water showed up in a reasonable amount of time.  And then we waited and waited and waited for my drink with no explanation given for why I was still waiting.

After having been in the bar for about 25 minutes I finally got a drink... not my drink... The waitress explained that the bartender couldn't get the drink right after trying it twice.  Instead she brought me over a drink that she chose.  She did say it was on the house... But, I have an issue with the fact that they chose the drink for me... What if I didn't like what they chose... Shouldn't they have come over and asked what I wanted instead.

The waitress was reasonably apologetic, but no manager came to our table to see how we were faring.  I will probably give this place a second chance for drinks since it is so near by, but it is definitely on probation with me.
