The acoustics and sound mixing are terrible. I went there to see Dwight Yoakum on July 3rd. You could not hear the vocals over the guitars and drums. I have seen Dwight at other venues and he puts on a great show, but the acoustics and sound mixing ruined the show. It was the same problem when I saw Steve Earle there a month ago and the sound was awful then, too. If you really want to see a particular performer I would recommend going elsewhere.
Review Source:The inside has a costco/BJ's feel with its industrial ceiling and exposed rafters & pipes, the floor is flat so don't get a seat in the back of the floor because you'll be peeking in between everybody's head (specifically if you're small), and there's a balcony in the back that is connected to the bar so you can enjoy your drink and watch the show without anyone blocking your view. I believe the side seats are the best if you're not willing to pay big bucks to sit in the front of the floor because you're slightly above the rest of the crowd and still not too far away since this is a medium sized venue. Another benefit of seeing a show here is that parking is free and you can try your chances at making your money back that you dropped on the concert in the casino! lol.
Review Source:I had never been here until the YES concert, 4/7/2013. Parking is ample and free. You don't have to go through the casino to get to the venue if you park in the event center/hotel/mall parking lot. We sat in one of the suites above the floor; very nice seats and I thought the acoustics were great. Beer a little pricey, but that's the way it is everywhere. I will go back.
Review Source:The best thing about this venue is that the parking is free for concert/event-goers and that you don't have to walk through the casino (i.e., spend money) to get to the theater. There are outside entrances that lead directly to the bar area.
For a small venue, I was pleased with the accommodations for over 21-year-olds. There is a huge bar/lounge waiting area with a solid base of beers on tap (Magic Hat, Landshark, and Blue Moon are as sophisticated as it gets) and there is a bar within the arena for drinks during the show.
The entire place is very industrial and spartan. There aren't any frills here, but I guess they were trying to keep in touch with the steel heritage of Bethlehem. The place is loud because of the concrete, so if you are going to see a show, go and see an arena rock band like Yes or Rush (I saw Yes on April 7th and the show was amazing). The sound is great for a band like that. I was also happy with the seating, most of which has a good view of the stage. The floor doesn't have stadium seating, which would probably get annoying for those sitting down there.
Overall: an A-OK venue with good perks like free parking and a casino nearby, but with limited ambiance inside.
Free parking. Â A plus. Â Having to walk through the Casino floor and avoid the temptation of gambling which would surely result in double or triple digit losses. Â A minus. Plenty of pre-show food and shopping options. Â A plus. Â Disorganized event staff at the entrance. Â A minus. Â Pleasant staff and reasonable concession prices inside. Â A plus. I think you can see how this review will go. Â At any rate, the Sands Event Center is a great mid-level concert venue for seeing some of the top touring acts in the US these days. Â I'd certainly return back, but there is plenty they can work on.
Review Source:Went to see the Celtic Thunder last night..Had never been there before but I found out that they had just completed some renovations and we were at the first show since the work was completed..Acoustic tiles were put on the floor and some panels were also put of the walls,so I didn't hear any problems with the sound. They also added some huge Flat panels at each side of the stage which helped see parts of the stage from the back of the venue.
The problem I did see is the foyer/vestibule is way too small and it's hard to get in and out with the kiosk full of souvenirs for the show built in the center.Next time I'm going to pay for valet parking because getting out of the parking garage at 10:30 PM is a nightmare with cars trying to get in line from 3-4 different directions. That really took the fun out of a otherwise nice evening.
Bob F from Naz hit the proverbial nail on zee head. Â Staff friendly, place sucks.
Went here last night for first time to see Mr. Warmth, Don Rickles & that ole bastid is still funny as ever.
As we were escorted to our seats, row 5 on floor, 1st thing I noticed is the concrete steps, then the concrete floor and finally at our seats, I look to my left & see the concrete wall that separates the floor from surrounding seats. Â Now I'm in construction management & the finishes on the concrete is HORRIBLE. Â Is this what the Sands construction team considers good work & to be shown to the public? Â Terrible. Â There was chipped concrete on the wall & I was looking at maybe 20' of it. Â The way they designed it makes it perfect for a metal show's mosh pit ;)
The sound - first there was a piano guy  who was backed by Don's band, he was alright, but the sound was bouncing off the back.  Same for Mr. Warmth, you really had to concentrate to catch the jokes due to poor sound w/ it reverberating off the back Â
This place has a box shape, which I think makes it bad for sound. Â Reminds me of Roseland Ballroom in NYC. Â I went to about 6 different shows there over the 90's - mostly bands, like Slayer, Megadeth, etc. Â And the sound always sucked. So much so I that I refused to go back, even to see bands I liked.
Places with good sound are, MSG, Radio City, Carnegie Hall, Bowery Ballroom & Beacon Theatre - U get the idea.
I see they have acoustical panels along the wall, but it doesn't help. Â They need to hire a serious sound professional & also install better finishes over concrete.
Don't wasted your $ to see anyone until they do.
I am impressed with the quality of acts at the event center, so I decided to check out the venue. Â Although I was very pleased with the concert, I was very disappointed with the atmosphere. Â The floors are concrete, so the acoustics are spotty. Â The seats are folding plastic chairs that are very uncomfortable, especially for a performance lasting more than one hour. Â I also noticed that there are many seats with a poor view of the stage. Â Before the concert started, a man sitting in front of me asked the usher if the venue was still under construction given the folding chairs and concrete floors.
The staff at the bar and ushers were very friendly and professional. Â All in all they have a high quality staff. Â I wish I could say the same about the performance center.
I do not plan on seeing any more concerts here until they upgrade seating and make the appropriate corrections to bring the venue up to the quality that the acts and paying patrons deserve.
