TITS is like a hybrid between a sports bar and a club.
Came here to watch the Bruins game last month and really enjoyed myself! The food was way better than I was expecting and the individual TVs in the booths are awesome. It really gets packed in here on Friday/Saturday nights. The line sometimes goes around the corner past Tedeschi!
Service is pretty good even when it's crowded and the prices aren't bad considering how big the portions are. They play their music loud and people even start dancing haha.
I say if you're looking for a good, loud, fun time, TITS is perfect. If you're looking for somewhere more low-key, this is not for you.
After getting a little braver with finding our way around the neighborhood, we ventured down this way, after getting a little tired of Joshua Tree.
We were not disappointed. Â This bar is so spacious, we always have plenty of space to get around comfortably, even if it is a little crowded. Â They also get super bonus points for having a fully accessible rest room on the top floor that is even marked as such!
The menu is pretty extensive for a sports bar, and the drinks are great! Â My favorite is the "Eclipse" beer blend, that is just blue moon with a Guiness floater. Â They also have all the seasonal brews, and samplers that we have yet to try.
The food is good, and they are very wiling to accomodate anything you may want to change. Â They also have an entire gluten free menu, and when we visited with one of our friends who is on a gluten free diet, the manager came out and discussed our friend's selections when ordering to be sure that all his needs were met!
I am a fan of the truffle tots, and the fish tacos. Â and the churros for dessert are totally my weakness. Â Sometimes, even if we eat somewhere else, we discuss coming here just for the churros!
Staff is friendly, and recognizes us each time we come in, and they have tons of TV's broadcasting sports and the news, but it's not overly loud or invasive (unless you're there during a game, or peak hours). Â I have found this to be a great convenient location to meet up with friends, or casually with colleagues.
They also have brunch that we have yet to try, and seating by the windows (but mostly high tables, so we don't usually sit on this side). Â There also is a huge bright room with a bar that would be great for private events.
A++ for Tavern in the Square! Â We are so glad we braved Harvard Ave. to see what else was out there
Came here for brunch yesterday (Father's Day) and left feeling like a million bucks! I'm definatly a fan of the Tavern brunch buffets because of their variety of meatless options and delicious waffle/ pancake choices- chocolate raspberry waffle and butterfinger pancakes. Â
There's a creole shrimp pasta dish that I swear I will marry one day in the near future. It's so flipping bomb!
* Although this location had many brunch options, but I believe the one in Porter Sq. had a tad bit more but as long as they keep serving that shrimp pasta, that's all I'll probably eat, washed down with a side of butterfunger pancakes.
OK let's get this straight. I had a really iffy experience here but the end brought it all home.
Service was ssslllooowww. There were a million TVs and loud-ass background noise to keep any conversation from really getting going. So we ended up watching strong man competitions over each others' shoulders. When we finally got food, it was alright. I feel that the menu is a little too expansive and tries too hard. They've got three stupid types of mac n cheese but no straight up mac n cheese? Wtf? And then there's all these obnoxious swanky sandwiches but i want a stupid delicious sandwich without so much pizazz. Chill out, dudes! I want some pub grub with a little dash of class but reel it in 'cuz I'm not THAT fancy.
Anyway, we got a vat of sangria. I'm not a huge sangria person but i'm all for tubs of alcoholic beverages. My issue was that we were stuffed and shoot, we had half a thing of sangria left. I asked our server if there was any way we could maybe get it thrown in a to-go cup.
"Well, *I* can't do it. That would be totally illegal. But, I mean. Were someone to put it somewhere, like in a water bottle, I mean. Who would stop them?"
And that, my friends, is what did it for me. Girl was kind of inattentive and aloof but she gave me the thumbs up on walking home with my drink. That's how you get yourself five stars.
I came here on a night where there was some dancing action happening. Â It was for a colleague's birthday, so what the hell?
There wasn't a line when we got there, but there was definitely one when we left. Â The food was decent and the beers were reasonably priced. Â Danced a bit, but definitely got mixed up with the overly drunken college kids that can't hold their liquor. Â Great. Â But after moving further away from them, the night became better.
So all in all, if you can stay away from the drunk girl who keeps making you spill your drink, you'll have a decent night. Â Also, eat before you come. Â Not that the food isn't bad, but it's hard to eat when all that action is going on around you.
TITS is your fall-back spot.
It's the spot you go to when you can't decide where else to go.
There are TV's everywhere, the place is really spacious, the staff is always friendly, and the food/drinks are pretty average. Big plus for the wide selection of beers on tap - if you're into that. This is a sports bar in Allston - so you can gather your own assumptions about the crowd (*cough* not saying a word here)...BUT you will notice an entirely different (aka more family oriented crowd) in there for Sunday brunch.
Brunch at TITS is like buffet brunch anywhere else: it is absolutely worth it if you can eat your body weight in food. The selection of different options is pretty decent and I really don't recall anyone ever having an issue with anything they've ordered. If I had to pick something to complain about just to complain I'd say that it would be nice if they had a schedule in advance for what was offered at the carving station. It rotates between prime rib and ham (and something else?) and it would be nice to know in advance. Other than that I'd have to reach pretty far to come up with a complaint about the food.
Other than that: they don't serve Patron, but it's not a dealbreaker. And there are no paper towels in the bathroom so I end up having to use toilet paper to open the door. I'm not a fan of that.
I don't have the DJ schedule memorized - but I've been in there when they have a DJ spinning, trying to up the vibe. It works, generally. This place isn't a dance club - but it does its best to keep people happy to be there. It's in a college-kid-area...so they've got to do what they gotta do. No real complaints from this peanut gallery...
I usually come here about once a week or two for lunch and a few drinks because it's right across the street from my apartment. Usually the service is decent and the food is good. Although, it has never been anything that would compel me to write home about -- until what I experienced here yesterday.
Stopped in yesterday around 1pm for lunch and had a seat at the bar. A couple of minutes went by and none of three employees (that I saw) behind the bar recognized the fact that I was sitting there. Another 5 minutes went by and still no recognition. Another 5 minutes....nothing. Usually even if a bar is busy, I feel the patron should at least be acknowledged with a "Hello, I'll be with you in just a minute!" or maybe even slide a menu my way. There was none of that. Keep in mind, this is 1pm on a Sunday -- not 11pm on a Saturday.
As the time passed, I watched the bartenders go past me a dozen or so times, filling up empty water glasses of other patrons and even some bartenders talking to each other. Maybe this was a particularly busy time for them or during some sort of shift change. Regardless, there were empty seats on either side of me so I wonder how they could be too busy to simply acknowledge me. I'd even question if it was maybe the way I smelled or looked but I had just showered and put on my Sunday best ;-) So seriously, what was the problem?
I finally got fed up and left, without any interaction from a single soul that worked there...no host, server, bartender or member of the management team.
Fortunately, there are many other great options in this area that offered me what I was looking for: great service, great food and a welcoming atmosphere. If Tavern in the Square is not able to provide this to a somewhat regular customer, it is only a short walk to next place. That's exactly what I did and will continue to do until this place can up its game in a significant way.

--------------LETS JUST SAY - MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR BANK STATEMENT AFTER YOU EAT THERE - THEY ADD ON THEIR OWN TIP ---------------
I USE to like this place - until now. Never going back again. EVER.]
First of all, they've really gone low quality food wise. The brunch use to be good. Now its McDonalds quality. Â NASTY. GREASY. COLD. NEVER REFILLED.
But, main point is, they're dishonest and even WORSE the manager KNOWS it!
We went for brunch - Brunch is brunch - and I'm a really good tipper - and when it's brunch you don't tip 20%. You brought water. Â I was waitresses for a long, long time and busted my butt running around, dealing with crappy customers, carrying massive trays, garnishing everything, running up massive sets of stairs with plates of food - even with a broken arm! and never ever expected 20% on brunch. Brunch is easy compared to other days. Regardless, I AM A GOOD TIPPER!
So, we tipped the waitress a little over 15% - about $17.  Well, unlike a lot of drunk college  kids who don't check their statements, we do.  The waitress took it upon herself to add on an extra $10 to her tip, making it $27 on a $100 bill. We have the money, $10 is not the point - it's the point that they're crooks.
SO....
We call. The manager PAUL - his name was PAUL - called back, left a message. PAUL openly admitted it on the message saying "WELL, YOU DID ONLY LEAVE HER A $17 TIP" (which was still over 15%)
Well PAUL, thank you for supporting and encouraging your waitresses to add on to their tips. Â What a great manager, PAUL.
So, PAUL said he would refund the $10. Â Two weeks later, never did. Â AGAIN- its not the $10, thats a drop in the bucket - its the fact that they're crooks, the waitress took it upon herself to add on her own tip and PAUL admitted it on the message he left, sounding proud of his crooked ways.
If PAUL had taken a different approach, actually refunded the stupid $10, or took the complaint seriously that would be that, end of story. But he didn't. SO... BETTER BUSINESS BUEREAU here we come!
And we will be going way over Pauls head, to his manager and owner if need be. His snide little tone and support of his theif of a waitress is not sitting well. Â Any reputable restaurant would fire a waitress for that in a second. Â Not PAUL...

One of my favorite sports bar in boston. It's actually located
in alston/brighton. This is not your typical sports bar. It's enormous and
there are tons of flatscreen tv's and you can even request a specific
event if it's not on, but it will be on. They have everything you want
if you are a sports junkie like myself. Every tuesday night
from 8-10pm they have Stump Trivia with Ryan (he's awesome).
I'm there most tuesday nights as trivia is a lot of fun and you're
competing with other nerds. The staff are amazing and super nice
and they tend to your needs and i've never had a sub-par experience
there. All good
I kept on hearing great things about TITS but I wasn't impressed when I finally went. The food is typical American fair. The BF & I split the Big Dig app once and it was a mistake. Good, I mean, but definitely made for a small army or at least people who aren't planning on eating after. I've had a few of their options, but remember the clam chowder the most; it sounded good (it had bacon) but it was a bit too salty. Maybe I just got a bad batch.
Why continue to go back, you ask? Well, the BF is obsessed with their fish & chips so I guess that's a positive of theirs.
I've also eaten off their GF menu since I was told I can no longer eat it (sad face) and again, the food was ok. Â I got a burger with a GF bun but they didn't really have any good sides. I got corn. How weird - a burger and corn (it tasted canned).
I'm sure it's a great bar for the weekend and is a fun atmosphere, but meh.
If you are older than the age of 24 and/or you want to be able to have a conversation without having to scream after 11 pm, this Tavern in the Square location is probably not for you. If you want to experience the local college scene or dance to blaring Top 40 music, Tavern in the Square might be for you.
They don't charge a cover, which is nice, and the place is huge, with tons of booths and tables. On a recent Friday night around 9 pm, my friends and I were able to get seated at a large booth. Â It was busy but didn't feel crowded. By 11, there was a line down the street to get in, the music was almost unbearably loud, and hoards of college students occupied every square inch of space in what was now the standing-room-only establishment. My friend (who was celebrating his entry into his late 20s) and I found the scene to be a bit obnoxious, but this is exactly the kind of bar I would have thought was really great when I was 23. I left around midnight because I had to catch the bus. My friend left when I did because his ears were throbbing. The service was good though, even after it got busy.
If you are compelled to come here on a weekend, arrive before 10-10:30 if you want to avoid a line and find a seat.
One night, a friend of mine and I were going to come here, and decided not to. Come to find out, that night someone got poked up in there lol. Anyway, the place is ard. Beers are cold as fuck, which is perfect for me! They got chicken & waffles, and they go super hard. If you get them though, you will catch the itis, and feel super tired afterwards. Service is pretty good, never had a problem with anyone working here. Only gripe I have, wear a jacket, because it can get pretty cold in there from time to time.
Review Source:TITS
Its a versatile place really~ good for college students and mid 20's
Want to dance? Head to the dance floor, though it can get pretty packed on the weekends
Want to chat? Head to the bar, though you may find yourself shouting
Its your run of the mill college bar, with decent but overpriced bar food. No complaints
Do try the big dig fries. Good value for the brunch though
Football Sundays: Tavern in the Square is awesome to watch football on sundays. They have NFL Sunday ticket and have every game playing at a different television. It gets pretty crowded so I recommend getting there early.
Nightlife:This bar is filled with rowdy college kids year around. Every time I have been here there has been at least 1 fight break up. Sometimes the fights even extend out to the streets and the cops show up. Sometimes theres ambulences...
Food: The food is not bad for bar food. They have a pretty decent selction.
Beers: They have at least 50+ beers on tap to choose from. Excellent beer selection!
Unfortunately, I will not be making it back to TITS anytime soon due to the heavy college scene. My next trip will be during Football season.
If you are mid 20's or younger, by all means this is your place. All my younger local female friends go there frequently. At my age I just find the place too big and dumb. You could do worse than watching a big game here, I guess, and the food and drinks aren't bad... but it's just not my scene.
Review Source:TITS is a pretty rad place to go. Â They have an awesome beer selection and the food is pretty tasty (try the fried pickles!). Â
They have trivia every week which is fun to take a break from the work week and just relax.
The staff here is always so friendly, especially the bartenders (Doug is our favorite!). Â All in all, I can't say that we've ever had a bad experience here!
"only unsuccessful bars charge a cover," were the words of the bouncer. This bar is an overall great time. For sports and hanging out it is unprecedented. Great tables, seating area, TVs at every angle and size you could dream of. They make sure to regulate the lines to monitor the occupancy (Aka get there early), which is good from confirmability standpoint.
The reason TITS doesn't get five stars is only because the dance floor gets a little too crowded. People are constantly walking through making it hard to move around. Additionally the crowd isn't the dancing type.
The Biff hates TITS. Take that how you want.
I on the other hand, was pleasantly surprised. I liked the individual TVs and their brunch was delicious and extensive. We almost had to take P-Dog home on a stretcher, we all ate way too much.
Dumb complaint, but this place is just so fucking big it's not inviting in the least. A very typical Allston bar in that respect. Also, the service is Masshole at its finest. I am in Boston ain't I?
New Year's Day brunch = win. I've done the TITS all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch buffet in the Central Square location, and that's exactly what this NYD brunch was: basically every tasty item you could ever want in a gluttonous brunch to start off your year on the right foot. 2013 is looking up...
Review Source:Simply one of the best brunch options in Boston. On Sunday from around 10am-2pm get ready for a feast. From omelets to a carving station and from lunch options like mac&cheese to a dessert bar, there is something for everyone and plenty for you.
Beyond the variety the food quality is better than you would assume from a huge buffet and the cost is perfect ~$16.
Give it a try, you won't be disappointed and for the best experience partake in the brunch buffet on a Sunday during the NFL season.
Ugh, TITS...
So, I used to go here when I first moved to Boston because I thought it was fun because they played music, people danced, etc. Well, now I don't like TITS so much anymore. The drinks are blah, the people are annoying and the food is mediocre. I ordered nachos & they were awful - there was barely any cheese and toppings. I am a nacho snob and I want to have evenly layered nachos with melted cheese and delicious toppings. Is that too much to ask?! But, okay fine, I don't care about the food that much because I'd rather just hang out and have a few drinks on a Friday & Saturday.
Second, it's full of annoying college students. It's not that I don't like college students because I was a college student a few years ago but excuse me, do we really need to make out with each other for 15 minutes RIGHT NEXT TO
RANDOM STRANGERS ?! Guys, surely you have a dorm for that. Some of these people are what I shall call a hot mess.
I will say that if I wanted to go catch a Pats game on a Sunday, this would probably be a good place to come. But, in terms of a Friday or Saturday night, no thank you. I will go elsewhere where the average age is not 21.
Tavern in the square is by far the best bar in Allston. It's a casual, fun bar, but definitely attracts the most upscale Allston crowd. Â Although I do love a night at White Horse or 90s night at Common Ground, Tavern in the square is still my favorite. The place is huge with 2 bars, a dj booth and plenty of tables. It's a great place to go out with a group of friends.
It's also a great sports bar. They have plenty of T.V.s so you can watch any game. The booths even have mini T.V.s on the wall next to them. I came here to watch the Super bowl last year and had a great time.
What really makes this place 4 star worthy is the brunch. $15 all you can eat brunch, complete with an omelet bar. If I had to describe the brunch in one sentence I'd say it  is like Marie Calendar's on steroids. There are a number of egg dishes, potatoes, bacon, and amazing breakfast desserts. Last time they had peanut butter and jelly pancakes and I haven't stopped thinking about them since. And if that's not enough there's lunch and dessert options with a serve yourself ice cream bar.
If you didn't have plans this Sunday, now you do: Go to Tavern in the Square's brunch, camp out with a Bloody Mary in front of a T.V. showing your favorite team, and eat until you physically can't swallow another bite. You can thank me later.
I am obsessed with this place!! Â So much fun to go to, lots of menu items to choose from and the food is just great.
I've gotten the
Truffle Mac N Cheese- pretty sure they probably used a whole box worth of mac n cheese. Not even slightly upset about this. Flavorful, you can taste the rich truffle oil and it's topped with breadcrumbs. Yum!
the Truffle Tater Tots- I'm clearly obsessed with truffle oil, lay off. This is a pretty big app so be ready to share with people. Who doesn't love tots though?!
The Feta and Avocado Salad w/ Chicken- large salad portion that certainly doesn't disappoint you on the amount of feta. Or avocado. Woop!
And the Veggie Thai Lettuce Wraps- Got full off of two wraps, the veggies are sauteed and the lettuce cups are huge!
I either get the seasonal sangria which is delicious or the red sangria which was really watered down the last time I got it, sadface.
The people that work here are awesome and it's just an all around great place to be!
Welcome to the holy grail and sole survivor of a simpler time when Allston bars were fun. Tavern in the Square (TITS to the layperson) is probably my favorite bar in Boston. I will review both the restaurant and bar aspects of this place:
Restaurant: 3 stars
Surprisingly really delicious food for a real bar, if you came here for fine cuisine then you are an idiot. This place does make delicious burgers and other bar appetizers (nachos, fries, etc.) and is definitely a decent spot for a mid-week couple of beers. Great in the summer when they have all of the windows open to allow for the putrid aromas of Allston to enter your dinner experience. Also have heard rave reviews for their Sunday Brunch but admittedly have not attended it yet.
Bar: 4 Stars
My favorite going-out bar in Allston, this place is always packed with a young crowd that is a lot of fun. Plenty of bathrooms so you'll never have to wait in a line and a lot of bar space to order drinks. Dance floors sometimes shoot up randomly on the floor when it is packed on weekends so you will have a solid time. Â Fish bowls will put you on your seat and there are a ton of TVs so it is a good spot for football/any sporting event. The bar aspect of this place rounds my rating up to 4 stars so don't complain to me about the math.
Roofdeck: ? Stars
They keep talking about installing a roofdeck but it was supposed to be installed this summer and never was. They are getting an incomplete from me in that department for the time being.
Normally, I don't review bars without eating there first, but I'm making an exception for Tavern In the Square (or, TITS for short, hah).
I've been here a few times now, and I gotta admit, I'm pretty impressed. Â Friendly, genuine bartenders serving up great drinks from a solid tap and bottle selection. Â If you've been to at least a half-dozen Boston bars, you know that this is the exact opposite of what you'd normally expect. Â
And I'm an especially big fan of the fishbowl drinks. Â Think oversized cocktails with fruit on top (and Swedish Fish sometimes -- ask for them!!) for a few to share in a plastic fishbowl. Â It's always a hit with my group.
After a food trip to nearby Deep Ellum or Sunset Grill and Tap, Tavern In the Square (okay, one more time -- TITS!) is always a stop for our group.
LOL.
I hadn't been to TITS in over a year since I moved to NY and rarely am in the area anymore. Some friends of mine wanted to go there though and I was around this past weekend so I went along.
First of all, one thing hasn't changed- having an out of state ID= a fake ID in the eyes of the bouncers at TITS. Either they're too lazy or too inept to take the time to decipher what is a real ID... but every single time I come here they barely glance over my ID, just seeing that it's out of state (NH) and automatically ask me if I have another form of ID to accompany it. It's not a huge deal, just super annoying and honestly TITS is the only place that this has ever happened to me.
More importantly, the way this place is run is so f'd up. They let a bunch of people in, but then they decide and dictate where you can and cannot stand. Apparently there are very few places you can actually stand. Anywhere I moved someone would come by and say "you can't stand there". I even got "that's a really bad place to text" and then was threatened to be kicked out unless I complied (despite being completely sober).
I don't think I could even hate-attend this place. You know, those places that are so bad that it's kind of entertaining to go? No way.
Maybe I'm just getting too old for this shit but I won't ever be coming back here.
Came here around 8PM one evening to meet a few friends. I had visited their location in Porter Square and I've always thought it was a good chain restaurant. Â The service was fine. The food was unmemorable at best.
Arancini - They were alright, they didn't come out hot so I'm sure that could have helped
Truffle Mac and Cheese with Chicken - It was some of the blandest mac and cheese I've ever had. I couldn't taste andy truffle at all and their was hardly any chicken.
Basic bar food. Â Nothing to squirm about or give much of an afterthought b/c yes, the french fries are not fresh. Â I was seated at a booth with a pole that ran from the ground to the ceiling in between my legs. Â This coupled with the music choice on a rainy Monday night created the perfect environment for a subpar burger!
There's a first time for everything I keep telling myself and certainly the last time I will choose to replenish my hunger the next time I'm around this block.
Only eaten here for weekend brunch and I've got to say it was fantastic! Â Perfect waffles and chocolate chip pancakes ! Granted I was craving chocolate chip pancakes when I went so I guess I was biased - but they really hit the spot. Good variety and selection on the breakfast front. I only vaguely recall the lunch items but I don't think any of it was bad. Cakes and such for dessert.
The omelette station is a little weird. They give you a piece of paper when they seat you - you fill it out with your omelette preferences and drop it off at the station. Eventually a waiter will bring it over to you (the sheets have your table number on them). The omelette-runner really sucked at his job. Perhaps it was his first day but he pretty much never got an omelette to the right table/person on the first try. It was pretty entertaining to watch but I guess if I really wanted my omelette it would have been frustrating.
Other weird thing to watch out for - there is a booth with a pole in the way. They initially tried to seat us there but it was really too early in the morning to perform the gymnastics required to get in and out of a seat that is partially blocked by a pole. They need to just retire that booth.
This place seems to serve up food that is a set above your basic bar food. Â I would classify it as just above average. Â I had the Monterrey chicken sandwich, which came with guac., bacon, and an herb mayo. Â The chicken was kind of dry, and not very big, and the guac was OK. Â The herb mayo was pretty good though. Â They pretty much take the basic bar sandwich and fancy it up by putting it on tasty focaccia bread, which is a good thing. Â I had the waffle fries with my sandwich, and they were delicious. Â I saw the regular fries and they are not hand-cut, and I imagine the waffle fries were from a bag as well, but they did taste good. Â Was my meal worth $10.99? Â Maybe not. Â But the $7.99 lunch specials are a good deal and I'd go with one of those next time. Â
The service was excellent. Â The host was very attentive, the bartender brought me a out a drink right away, and our server was excellent. Â
In the end, I left happy and with a full belly, and the food was pretty good. Â I can say that I would be willing to return for lunch in the future.
Finally made it for the brunch buffet!
Disappointed the minute we walked in the door because they wouldn't seat us until our entire party had arrived. Even though the place was 2/3rds empty. If there was a line or the place was busy, I'd understand.
10 minutes later we watched the hostesses seat random people without complete parties while we still had to wait.
Not impressed at all.
We were finally seated, the buffet was definitely filled with all kinds of food though some of the hot breakfast items seemed like they had been sitting for a while.
The dessert table had no labels, so you're basically picking based on looks alone.
Their bloody mary's, which I love (Ocean Spray bar mix) are a bit spicier in the morning than some can take.
Overall, I'll probably be back.
This review is only about the night scene. Â I have never been there to eat... but it was full and busy on a Friday night. Â It has a lot of beers on tap.. so that's nice. Â And it is decorated similarly to the other Tavern in the Squares. Â Tons of tv screens in addition to a personal one in each booth.. that was nice.
The reason why I say it's okay.. not a big fan of the fish bowls. Â $20 for no alcohol... tons of sugar and ice. Â I have gone to many places with fish bowls.. not worth it here. Â Go to HK club for a Scorpion bowl. Â Neither are classy spots.. but their bowls are better.
They did have free beer samples that night.. they had some Amstel Light girls walk around..
Tall Blue Moons.
Buffalo Tenders.
House Salad.
Waffle Fries.

As long as you split the tab, it's a nice night out. The trivia could be a lot better, but maybe I'm just not geeky enough. Also really convinced that this trivia is more for 'nerds' as opposed to 'geeks,' Â -- re: less about gaming/cult books/random facts and more about band music bands/the periodic table/gratuitous sports questions.
