I ordered a takeout entree of turkey tips, roasted vegetables and rice at lunch.  The tips were dry and overcooked, the roasted vegetables were dry and unseasoned, and the rice was basically just a white rice.  I hadn't been to The Vault in about a year.  What happened to the savory bourbon marinated turkey tips they used to have with seasoned, steamed veggies and a tasty rice pilaf?  What a disappointment for a $17 lunch.  Skip this place and go to the Boston Kebab House across the street!

The bar itself has a great layout and the DJ was playing great music. If it wasn't for the bouncer who looked like a disgruntled garden gnome and acted like a complete jerk, this bar would have gotten a higher rating. He told us the bar was closed at 11 pm and said, "I promise you'll have a great time at any other bar, please leave." Then we watched someone pay him 20 dollars to get in and he was happy to let her in and stare us down. Why would an establishment put someone devoid of customer service skills in front representing them?

Great for after work drinks. I've been here a few times on Tues, Weds and Thursday nights and it was sufficiently close to my work in the Financial District and had pretty good cocktails. I haven't had much to eat but it was average bar-food. Overall, another great after-work drinks and apps bar in the financial district.

We chose this place for our Rehearsal Dinner and couldn't have happier! Ty Costa - the restaurant manager - was an absolute pleasure to work with and was there every step of the way to help us with our constantly changing menu and setup decisions. The staff was great, the food was amazing and the place is beautiful. Ty and the Vault made it a very easy and surprisingly inexpensive experience that was perfect for what we were looking for. He even had his cooks make a special dish for us! Additionally, they helped us set up our slide show which played through their numerous tv's and huge projector screen.

I've visited this place a few times during lunch and happy hour as well and it's an equally great experience then as well. Same as the above - great food, friendly staff and a nice casual environment inside!

Highly recommended for any private parties you might be holding (they comfortably fit our 100 or so people) and for a casual lunch or after work drinks!

Yelp has a inaccurate map for this bar. Its actually located around the financial district

I went on a friday. It was very crowded at the bar and there werent  enough bartenders. It takes like 20 minutes to get a drink.  I got a bud light and a vodka soda at the same time. It was $12 and they wouldnt let me pay with card if i closed the tab. wtf? They let someone right before pay with card and close the tab but just told her she couldnt close the tab again.. I already thought that was lame. Does this bar want business or not..

If you have a party of 20 or more, you may get great service...If you're a party of two dropping in for lunch, beware.
My (simple) order was brought out incorrectly twice, and the excuses from the waitresses were "there shouldn't be any avacado on your wrap"...."You should have the cranberry aioli on your wrap," well in fact I didn't...aka...they didn't bother to check my order before they brought it out. After my co-worker and I received our food, our waiteress NEVER checked on us, to the point that I had to ask the hostess who our waitress was. The hostess's excuse, for the lack of service, was because they "had a large party of 20 downstairs." Soooo...who am I a second class citizen, because I am not apart of the large party downstairs. What made matters worse was watching our assigned waitress stand directly adjacent from us while she combed her hair and ate her lunch the entire time we ate our food. She practically was on break while we were in the restaurant...I saw her go "downstairs" to assist with the "large party" all of 2 times. UNEXCEPTABLE!!!
The food was ok...the sweet potato fries were awesome (both stars belong to those fries)...and the prices are decent...but I would have MUCH rather preferred to spend my money at a venue that appreciates all customers, undertands that not everyone gives a bad tip for good service (operative phase...good service), and most importantly appreciates that customers even choose to go there during their lunch hour. P.S. I always leave a great tip...I left zero dollars and cents this afternoon!!!!!!!

The Vault is fine enough for an after-work happy hour with your colleagues.  There's nothing all that special behind the bar, but the space works well enough.  There are definitely worse places in the Financial District you can find yourself at 5:30 on a Friday.

Just be sure not to order any food, especially for takeout if you're working late.  The sandwiches and pizza I've ordered run bland, and are not particularly hot either.  I'd honestly rather have fast food and save the extra cash.

The Vault is a decent place for a couple domestics after work.  For anything else, especially dinner, I'd recommend elsewhere.

A now old school financial district after work hang out. I've never been here for lunch, only after work drinks. The bar has a decent set up. Sometimes it gets too cramped by the bar. Overall a good bar and a decent crowd after work during the week.

Absolutely standard. Large enough menu to please everybody. Ample space. Typically very crowded at lunch. If you need a casual but nice place to meet people for lunch - this is it.

Solid lunch spot in the financial district - came in this week. If you're looking a lunch choice that's going to have some sort of crowd and decent food, this should be in your rotation.

I was fortunate enough to have lost my sense of taste that day due to the bug so I can not comment on flavor, but used my visual senses.

Really, how hard is it to mess up salad? Half the ingredients listed on the menu for warm spinach salad were missing from my salad. At least I had spinach that was half boiled and half cold. I guess together, it is warm.

Leave the key in the Vault. Save the public from your slow service and mediocre dishes.

my coworkers and i went here for lunch today, and i have also been previously for after-work drinks.

it's a great place for groups, since the standard american fare appeals to many tastes. i ordered the hummus plate, which was great. the hummus was flavorful and topped with herbs, and came with fresh carrots, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and crispy pita bread chips. i also got the garden salad. i picked a few sweet potato fries off my coworker's plate, and they were great - thick and crispy. so few places get the crispy sweet potato fry right! everyone else seemed very happy with their meals, which included the chipotle chicken and bacon sandwich, caesar wrap, turkey burger, and taco salad.

when i had gone previously for drinks, i thought there were plenty of options on the menu, and remember enjoying the transfusion (although it was a little sweet, but what can you expect from a grape juice cocktail) and the dirty martini was made very well. the drinks are a bit pricey, but on par with the area, and they make up for it with reasonable food prices. we had also ordered nachos and quesadillas which hit the spot, and the plate of nachos is absolutely enormous!

overall, i like the food and drinks, and it's a great place for lunch or drinks.

Have eaten lunch here several times now and went with fish and chips the first time.  Solid, but not the best you'll find.   What I can say is worth the trip is the variety of nice and good size burgers they serve.  So far my favorite is the California burger.  The prices are reasonable and the fireplace is nice in the winter time.  I find it has a good size crowd, but it's not packed so it's a great fit when you are in the mood for a good burger where you don't want to wait awhile.   Service has always been quick and friendly.

I went to The Vault for an event a few weeks ago.  The staff was happy to have the business, and they provided us with a large amount of space and a DJ.  The DJ was very nice and open to requests from all restaurant goers.  The drinks were made well; however, they weren't astounding.  Drinks ranged from $11-13 per cocktail, and a beer was about $5.  While there, a group of us ordered their nachos and buffalo tenders.  Both were really good...It's hard to go wrong with buffalo bites.  I loved their loaded nachos which included "tortilla chips topped with jack and cheddar cheese, chicken, salsa, tomatoes, black olives, cherry peppers, and sour cream."  They were not shy about the toppings and the nachos went quickly.  You have to eat nachos quickly, though, or else the chips will get too soggy...

My only serious qualms about The Vault were their prices (drinks and appetizers were higher than I'm used to) and a couple of their bartenders.  My friend and I were snapped at by different bartenders at separate times for separate reasons!  I'm not sure if they just felt the rush of having a crowd and panicked, but I didn't appreciate the unnecessary attitude that came from them!  Nonetheless, hosting the event at The Vault was free, and they provided a nice space for a large group of people to have a nice time.

For my "Nacho Average Reviews" list: 3 stars

Definitely dig this place...we were there pretty late for dinner and there was a good amount of people still dining.  The service was very good, and I loved the ambiance.

Finance District hot spot for both lunch and dinner (when it's closer to bar than restaurant).  I had lunch there a couple times now and it hasn't been crowded (but not empty either).  Salads are quite good and I highly recommend them.

Nice place to take your co-workers since they have relatively large round tables.  The location is tucked away on a historic square where it's nice to people-watch from their huge windows.

Awesome place for a sit down lunch.  Try the steak salad; it's out of this world and crazy filling without putting you into a food coma.  The turkey burger and warm spinach salad are pretty great too.  Service is always fast and pleasant.

The food isn't that great and over priced for what it is.  The best thing I have ever had here is a salad, and that isn't saying much.  Yet I keep going back.  I feel like I'm caught in a bad dining romance. :(

I've going to The Vault on and off for years now and i have to say every time i go - i'm underwhelmed. Very underwhelmed. the food was bland, the drink was gross. the clientele maybe different during the week but whenever i've gone, it's totally empty. oh well. maybe i just pick off hours?

If you find yourself here after work on a Thursday--look around you. Everyone looks exactly the same. Everyone's also semi-awkwardly maintaining conversation with their co-workers while trying to survey hotties at the bar. It has typical pub food that isn't really great or really terrible. During a lunch, the best thing I've had is the salad with fresh mozzarella. Prices are steep for what it is.

After work, they turn full on bar (usually packed) with extra room downstairs. The waitresses will always make sure you have a drink, but you pay a pretty penny for that kinda service. Their typical audience is the 30-something finance professional that wants to sneak in a quick beer before heading home to Beverly to see the wifey.

So, there's a population in this city 's financial industry workers that make it a point to be at this see-and-be seen spot for  drinks and mingling on Thursdays after 5.  I hesitated at the last statement because I dont want my Yelp review to necessarily spur more frequenting of this group to this restaurant, because if it gets any  more packed and uncomfortable in this meat market of brooks-brothers clad "young professionals",i am officially boycotting it for my Thirsty Thursday activities.  I mean, its not a bad thing for it to be crazy busy, the bar space layout just simply isnt set up right for the amount of people they pack in there.  I hate, hate, hate waiting 20 minutes for a drink and elbowing through people. Not to imply that the bartenders aren't good at their jobs- I actually would assert the opposite.  They are some of the fastest, most talented bartenders I've been served by in this city.  And there's a really low turnover rate-I'm always served by the same bartenders. They know their bar and they do see you and they do know you are waiting forever for your drink. Stop waving that credit card, it will get you no where.

Ladies, if you are looking for your next I-banking or mutual fund accounting boyfriend, here's a good spot to look.  The guys greatly out-number the girls, they are always scanning the crowd, so if you come here, don't worry, you'll be checked out.

I mean, its alright. I let my girlfriends drag me there every so often.  But the menu isn't anything to write home about (or write Yelp)  and I think their martinis are a bit expensive for the place.
However, they do have a good beer selection and if you are going there with a bunch of co-workers, check out the  popular "Corporate Dozen" burger sliders. Otherwise, don't go for the food, go for the gawking.

Meh. The food is alright. The wait staff is courteous and professional, but not exactly friendly unless you're a 40-year old i-banker that looks like he can support a mistress or two...

The Vault is a decent, non-controversial lunch spot if you work in the financial district.

I was there for a short period of time right after work. But since this place is in the financial district, that's what it seems best for. Plus I saw a lot of suits in the place. It's not your regular bar; instead it has a classier almost lounge-ish feel to it. They have good beers on draft and their staff was attentive and nice. I'll reiterate some of the other reviewers and say the guy to girl ratio is pretty ridiculous here - 5 to 1 easily and probably more.

I can see myself here for after work drinks again, but other than that probably not.

Talk about awkward! Our company hosted a going-away party for one of my old co-workers at the Vault, which seems pretty normal, unless you take into account the fact that we were all considerably younger than everybody else and way underdressed.

This is a great place if you're in a suit, like suits, or want a good raspberry truffle martini. Otherwise, if you work at a pharma consulting company (like me!), this is probably not the best post-work hangout for you.

I used to go here with coworkers sometimes (usually as either a goodbye party or a welcome to the company type deal) and always enjoyed it.

friendly staff, decently priced food, really good salads, a nice cocktail menu, and an attractive environment.

i'm sure it turns into bedlam at night though.

A fun downtown sports bar filled with a ton of financial dudes. A dime a dozen in this area.
Good selection of beer, good service if you can make it up to the bar - gets pretty crowded.
Menu was limited, food not bad.

I'm just "eh" about this place - nothing to write home about.

if you  work in the financial district, this is a great bar for after work happy hour.  Ladies, if you're a single girl working in the financial district, and like suits, this place is like winning the jackpot.  Both times I've been it's been lke a 10:1 ratio!  (just an FYI...)

good service, mediocre food.  but of course, the Vault is one of those places you go for the drinks, not the food.

I hope we go back soon

I was dragged here on Saturday night, so I don't know what the food is like.  The crowd is older...much older.  I felt a little out of place age wise, but stuck around for a little bit since I was with a big group.  The restaurant bar area is a little tight and what really got me annoyed was that I bought two drinks and couldn't put it on my credit card because there's a $20 minimum!!!  Not cool in my book.  At least the drink was strong.

What's there to say that hasn't already been said. Hm. Not much. I work in close proximity and it's good for Friday night beers. Unless you have some weird loner in a pink oxford hanging out around your table, looming. Then it's not so good. But, come back for lunch!

I got a grilled cheese panini. Perfectly melted, I had wobbly bacon and melty cheese falling out of my mouth simultaneously. I could almost feel Liz's jealous eyes burning into my pleasure. She's a sucker for having loose pieces of meat falling out of her sandwiches. You should see her with her paws wrapped around a State Street from Al's. All droopy proscieutto-eyed. $9 for a sandy, not a big deal if it's decent and I'm all for a decent sammich. Well done vault, you've accomplished a hearty lunch and a pleasant after work outing.

I work practically across the street so location is totally perfect for post work drinks.  The service was great and just to day I had an amazing Turkey Burger for lunch.  IT was juicy and flavorful (which is hard for turkey burgers).  The decor is a bit questionable but you get the feel of old bank with bar feel.

For such a banker/business focus they have a limited Scotch selection (poo poo) and hopefully over the next several weeks the staff will get tired of me asking for a particular type and just get it.  :)

Over all a great after work drink spot and tasty lunch food.

What i know about Vault- Right across the street from my work. I have been there for both happy hour and Lunch and the second thing you notice after the very heavy doors are the extraordinarily high celings and you are engulfed by the darkness. Just to get carried away, a bit on the darkness theme and abundance of the finance types here, maybe dark deals are being neogiated here. Ok, getting off my soap box, there are big windows where you can look at the passerby's Service is decent-efficient!
The tables have higher chairs. The food is decent bar food, burgers, quesadillas , ok salad. You know the type-staple bar food.
I have come here also for happy hours that are fun.

Been here for both lunch and drinks. The food is pretty good, but not priced for an everyday lunch spot. It's definitely frequented by the male dominated financial industry - the ratio each time of been was 10 to 1. Lots of suits going on. Regardless, it is a good crowd and worth checking out.

Bring your stock portfolio, power suit and I-banking buddies.  This is a happening Happy Hour spot but I must say I felt rather left out when I wasn't able to discuss my grueling banking hours with many of the financier frequenters.

Expect large crowds, lots of men, and more stock jargon than most can handle!

This is one of the busier apres work joint I've been to in Boston and generally have  a good time-drinks are reasonable and well served and the snacks will hit the spot too!

I must also say I am somewhat partial, the owners also operate one of my fave Nantucket hangouts!

I've been here numerous times for drinks and for lunch. Lunch is great. the food here is really outstanding. Great artichoke dip. Great salads. Love the portabello burger. Prices are a lot for lunch (10-15 bucks). Good but pricey drinks. Very crowded after work, typical financial district crowd.

We stopped at the Vault to check out the Friday night, post-work scene. Just hitting the bar, it was a crowded scene with good food and good buzz. The drinks were mixed well, so we decided to stay for appetizers. The food was excellent! The service staff was a little flustered by the crowds of late 20-somethings to 40-somethings, and I got stepped on more than once (who hasn't at a crowded bar?!?) but we got our snack on and will definitely come back for a full meal.
