Every last Thursday of the month they have a night called "Bluegrass and Beer" for only a $3.00 cover. Â What else do you need to know?
Fine, fine, I guess you want a little more information than that.
Acoustic Cafe is a quaint little live music bar/venue in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport (I emphasize the neighborhood because I do not want you to concern yourself with getting stabbed). Â It has a pretty interesting vibe to it. Â Somewhere between punk rock and hippie.
The ambiance is pretty excellent, as they have everything from posters depicting... strange acts... to multicolored indoor lanterns. Â They also have a few very comfortable couches on a raised platform in the back, which I highly recommend as an excellent way to relax and enjoy the show.
The bartenders are generally pretty cool, although when the place is hopping it can take a few minutes to get a drink.
They do always charge a cover, but they're very supportive of local artists, from bands to painters, so I have no problem throwing 5 bucks their way.
Ultimately this is definitely one of the hipper places in Bridgeport and an excellent place to take in local music and have a few beers with friends. Â Plus, y'know, the bluegrass. Â Who doesn't love a good banjo or stand-up bass? Â Communists, that's who.
Go when good bands are playing and even when local bands are playing. I don't mind paying a cover because when I walk in I know why they charge a cover and it's to support the artist and musicians. NOT to make a ton of $$$$.
The stage is small but that's a good thing if your a small band (because the venue looks full) and great for a well known band (because the venue IS full).
It is a step above a dive bar but that's what they want. They know it's in Bridgeport and not in SoNo or NYC.
They FINALLY paved and put cameras in the parking lot so it's not sketchy.
Best Beer in Black Rock (Long Trail Double Bag on tap).
I've been here a couple times now. I like this place a lot, I like that is supports local artists. Not only musical artists but painters as well- they always have interesting art for sale on the walls. The drinks are reasonably priced and the staff is friendly.
The only reason that It doesn't get 5 stars is they always have incense burning, and it really can be overpowering and you, your clothes, and anything else you bring in there will smell like it until you wash. I understand maybe its just about ambiance but it's too much for me, and more than likely anyone with any type of pulmonary disease like asthma.
Oh, and they have a $10 minimum for any type of card, so be sure to bring cash if you only want one drink.
Came here for the Christmas show featuring Saint Bernadette, The Stepkids, Sketch tha Catacylsm, John Pioli, Joe Roberto, and Jon Torres.
This space is intimate without being encroaching. Let the wall art mesmerize you as you stroll in, grab a beer or some tea, and pop a squat in a seat to enjoy what your ears are about to experience. The crowd is diverse without being trendy, always a plus in a small venue when the collective experience is about the MUSIC!!!!
This particular show was fantastic. Not only was it free, but the bill was diverse and filled with thought provoking skits provided by Meredith of Saint Bernadette and a few other guests.
The music was a tad loud for my taste, but it was refreshing to hear vocals without over done bass or guitar drowning them out.
Definitely a jem, great for friends or a solo adventure.
What can I say? This has been my watering hole for about 6 years now. I love this place to death. It's like my Cheers. I've had many many many many good times here. I've performed here with various musical groups/random people/bands about a bazillion times. The soundguys know what they are doing. The system sounds awesome. The beer selection is awesome. The staff and ownership are awesome.
This is a very open-minded venue. I've seen just about every type of music known to mankind at this place. Jazz, rock, funk, thrash metal, latin jazz, latin rock, polka, bluegrass, blues, folk (lots of folk), electronic, noise, a cappella r&b, hip hop, a guy with a washboard, etc. Definitely an awesome place for people who enjoy live music.
This venue is a mecca for lots of area musicians. Their tuesday night open mic is almost always packed to the gills and people bring their best....and worst....both of which are equally entertaining. I've seen many bands form here, and some of the most amazing musicians roll through....and end up becoming regulars. So do the bad ones! Somehow it adds to the dynamic.
Anywho, I know this is a totally biased review but, again, I love his place like it was my kid! It's too bad I live in Boston now and don't get to drop by as often!
