I love this place. I normally go to Guapos or Uncle Julios but this is my new fav place. Its cheaper and the food is really good. I wish they had tamales tho...

Its definitely more livelier than its Fairfax cousin. I did 2 groupons but without those the price for the food is too much. The food and service though is top class.

Great service, awesome margarita's and good food. Nice local place with  a TexMex feel to it. Creative menu choices. We had the Southwestern Egg Roll which was delicious, flaky crust and tangy contents. Salads for dinner, and the Coconut Flan for dessert, very good. We'll be back!

I can't get enough of Coyote Grille! I have been to the Fairfax one so many times, since I used to live and work near there. But when I moved both houses and jobs, I was so upset that I couldn't frequent there as often as I would like. Now, with the Centreville location, it's not an inconvenience!

Same great food (yes, I'll get into the whole having to ask for chips and salsa thing here in a minute) and atmosphere as the Fairfax one, but closer to home. I love the Fiesta Salad with chicken. It's my go to meal when I go here. Their queso is delicious. SO yummy. Definitely try it out.

So, people are peeved you have to ask for chips and salsa. If you're like me, you eat chips and salsa by the barrel, but some people (BELIEVE IT OR NOT) don't want chips and salsa. And as soon as you put chips and salsa in their respective bowls and put them on the table, they're done for. Either they must be eaten or TOSSED. So, if you own a restaurant, and everyday 20% of your chips and salsa are getting tossed, think about the $$$ you're losing. Not to mention, it's just WASTEFUL. So, in my own opinion, I think you should get over the fact that you have to ask for chips and salsa. Seriously. It's not a big deal to sit down, say hi to your waiter, and say "can we get some chips and salsa?" They will HAPPILY bring it to you.

Other loves of mine: their crazy margarita with jalepenos in it. Hello amazing. Almost everything on their tapas menu is AWESOME. Their fajitas are yummy. All in all, yummy food, good drinks, fun people, and a great outside patio.

Go! And get as much to eat and drink as you can. It's all super good.

Went back with the wife who was very excited to finally try this place.  Another very good experience.  Friendly staff and our server was very attentive and personable.
Had the steak fajitas which were perfectly seasoned and cooked.  What I really appreciated though was the fixings plate with the cheese, guac, sour, pico and lettuce was neatly arranged and not just thrown on like at many other restaurants.  Only small gripe was that I wish there was just a bit more meat and that they used fresh tortillas.
Also had their queso as an appetizer.  I wasn't a big fan, thought I would like it more but it just didn't do it for me.  Wife ordered the steak salad with fried tortilla bowl.  Well portioned and steak was again nicely seasoned and well cooked.

The best part of our meal was our server told us that chips & salsa are available upon request which is the way it should be.  Their 3 salsa appetizer on the menu is a scam.  You simply get a green tomatillo based sauce and some sort of orange salsa.

Will be back to check out the happy hour.

We really enjoyed this place.  My boyfriend said it used to be a hole in the wall but we stopped by based off of reviews from Yelp.  We were pleasantly surprised by the décor and atmosphere.  The food was awesome.  My only issue was service was very slow.  It took awhile to be approached and then even afterwards, drink refills were sparse and people who were sat after us were eating before us.

My brother took my wife and I to celebrate our birthdays here on Cinco De Mayo. They did a really fun celebration in their "backyard" with balloons for kids and tequila tasting for adults.
I had the Magmarita, a spicy Margarita. This is a brilliant idea and I can't believe I didn't think of it first. It was super good. I also had the grilled fish tacos! Yes! Grilled fish tacos! Not deep fried like everyone else does! They were very tasty.
They service was nice and accommodated everything very well. Be careful, if you tell them its your birthday they will sing. But dessert is on the house.
Definitely a new favorite mexican restaurant.

We found this place by accident when we got lost looking for the place we were getting a massage so cam back afterwards.  I didn't have much expectations walking in, just hoping for some good Mexican food.  The place is pretty basic looking, rather sparse in decor but makes up for it in service and food quality.  Every staff member that came near us during out dinner took a second to check in and make sure things were going well.  Our waitress: Natalie, was personable and professional.  The guacamole was fantastic and reasonably priced at $4.  I had the mixed grill entree of chicken, shrimp and chiorizo.  It was delicious and had just the right amount of heat, I could feel a little sweat on the brow but could still taste the food under the spice.  I hate it when places use so much sauce or spice that you can't tell what your eating.  My wife had the talapia wrap with fries.  I have to say that I was a bit disappointed I didn't know about the fries. They were a batter dipped fie, cooked to crispiness on the outside but still chewy inside and the flavor was awesome. It would have been worth the 35 minute trip just for those.  The key lime pie was also worthy.
The food was great, the service and staff even better and the bill was fair.  What more do you want?

The good: Atmosphere, professional staff, good service. Tasty Queso dip, and plenty of it.

The bad: Nothing 'bad' per se.

The Meh: Chile Relleno is far too busy. Basicallly a cacophony of clashing textures and flavors in a large pepper stuffed with far too many artisanal ingredients (artisanal is a bad word with me) that are there to be more trendy than tasty..

Halfway decent Tres Leches, a bit dry at the top,a bit course of texture, but otherwise acceptable if unremarkable, except drizzled for some inexplicable reason with a very pretty and very overpowering strawberry sauce.  Frankly, it spoiled an already middling dessert.  The thing about Tres Leches is the subtle flavor and texture interplay among the cake and the 'leches' that give it its name. Super-sweet syrup just gets in the way of the flavors.

Whole experience: Meh. Style over substance. Not worth a return visit.

The staff seems very friendly, but the food was ok at best. We got the fajitas which had the smallest tortillas and the chicken was rubbery. The pasta was over priced for what it was.

Tried this place with a Groupon that... you guessed it....was about to expire.  I would recommend this place for a Friday night out for some margaritas and Mexican.  I LOVE Mexican food and this place did not disappoint.

We had the chips and three salsas app.  Only one of the salsas had any flavor so we ended up not eating the other two.  The chips were tasty, though I've never been a huge fan of multicolored tortilla chips.  For some reason we decided it would be a good idea to order some queso con carne as well.  We thought it would just be the cheese, but it came with another entire plate full of chips.  We definitely did not need to eat that, but the queso was amazing and well worth it.

I had chicken enchiladas and my husband had the coyote combo which was carne asada and a chicken enchilada.  This is one of the better enchilada dishes I've had in a while.  My husband also very much enjoyed his combo.  The service was very good even though the restaurant was packed on a Friday night.

Overall, I think I liked Coyote Grill better than Rio Grande, but it's not as authentic as a place like Los Toltecos.  We will definitely be back.

This place is amazing! My family went and suggested it to me.... So we went on my birthday, and tried the nachos... those were fantastic, then had the burrito and that was to die for (would go into further detail, but tired...) Then we went for my step dad's birthday and I tried the enchiladas. perfect amount of cheese and consistency. I will DEFINITELY go again! Gonna say not good for dancing on the review, you will have to stop yourself from doing so after the first bite.

Went for Mother's Day. Open Table advertised a 3 course brunch featuring lobster risotto. Upon arrival, Opps, Open Table was not correct, that was for Valentine's day! All not lost though. Our first time back since change of ownership. Fantastic and attentive staff (Darryl is worth asking to be seated on his area :-). The manager goes above and beyond to make sure your visit is enjoyable. The food is well above average. Do start with the Pork Wings. Tucson salad -- outstanding. My wife had Orange Tequilla Shrimp dinner and really liked it, Including the 'green' rice. And, we have finally found a southwestern restaurant in DC metro area with Fried Ice Cream! It was a very good finish to the meal. Return visit for lunch or dinner is a definite.
Family friendly; really like the redesign seating and there's outdoor patio seating; still have large screen TVs at bar area so we'll definitely be returning if they have our Packers on!

Tour de force in Mexican food. This is not your chow truck chuck like most Mexican restaurant make. Well designed meals by someone who knows what food is supposed to taste like.
Cheers to the second restaurant, the original is in downtown Fairfax city.

We started with tapas; balsamic tomatoes with jalapeño and red onion, good.  I had the shrimp fajitas, they were good but not great. I did enjoy the guacamole but the chips and salsa were not good, the salsa was bland and reminiscent of ketchup, probably won't be back. Instead of this spot I recommend Alto Plaza around the corner.

I had high hopes with all these good reviews, but it did not lived up to it at all. I gave it a two stars because my girlfriend liked her salad and the atmosphere was nice. I agree with one of the reviews saying the food was bland. I got the chicken enchiladas which were poorly made and the quality of the food was not very good. I ordered a 1800 margarita and all I tasted was the sweet and sour mix. Would be nice to taste what I was really paying for. The prices were nice but overall I am not a fan and won't be going back. They should take lessons from La Tolteca in Burke on how to make a margarita. Best house margarita in the area!

Great food, service and atmosphere!  Fajitas are fantastic, fish is great and well-seasoned tacos are loved by my husband, salsa trio is nice for anyone who enjoys salsa and chips with variety - everything we have had here has been great!   Portions are pretty decent and we usually take a little something home so we can enjoy desert.  The tres leches cake was good but Juan's famous coconut flan was amazing!  I love coconut but my husband doesn't and we both loved it!!!

    BUMMER. NO FREE CHIPS.

We are HUGE fans of the original Coyote Grill location in downtown Fairfax, and we were thrilled to try the new Centreville location.

BUT we quickly -- after one visit -- decided to stick with the Fairfax location because...

    1. It offers free chips & salsa (and what Tex/Mex place doesn't?)

    and

    2.  The atmosphere is more pleasant.

We also found inconsistencies in the food prep between the two locations.  What you order in Fairfax WILL be different in Centreville.

Well, my husband and I saw the groupon being offered earlier in the week (sadly we missed out on actually buying one) and after checking out the menu knew we had to give this place a shot.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: We went with our 3 girls (4, 2 & 2 weeks).  While at first the host seemed slightly flustered we were seated in the back room and I for one was happy for the privacy.  Right away I could tell that I really enjoyed the decor.  Already at this point I was thinking about coming back with just my husband the next time we have a sitter.  After getting seated we were greeted by our waitress.  She was very friendly and helpful.  After asking about a children's menu she did provide two and went on a search for crayons.  While I do believe they are kid friendly they definitely seemed a little unprepared to actually serve a family with small children.

FOOD: After deciding to order the guacamole as an appetizer to share we began to make our dinner selections, Since so many things on the menu looked good, my husband chose to get 3 tapas as a meal.  He got the shrimp ceviche, the gazpacho shots and the carne con crema de maize. I asked the waitress if she recommended the carnitas or the enchiladas and she recommended the carnitas.  For our two older girls we got one chicken taco with beans and rice and one cheeseburger with fries.  EVERYTHING was delicious!!!!  My husband also got 2 margaritas the Original and the Lime in the Coconut he really liked both (I has sips of each and I much preferred the Lime in the Coconut.  It was almost like a less sweet, tequila based pina colada. I will be getting one of these for myself at some point in the future).  Since both girls ate all their dinner (really, doesn't that say it all right there?) we ordered the fried ice cream for desert.  It was probably the best fried ice cream I have ever had!  The caramel sauce was amazing!

OVERALL:  We LOVED it!  I can see us making this place a regular dining destination.    I am also very excited to see that they offer a large gluten free menu!  One of my best friends has celiac's disease and it is always nice to know before arriving that they have a large variety of food for her to try.

    A Taste of San Antonio!
We discovered the Coyote Grille a couple of weeks ago.  We had a very good margarita and moved on to the flavorful main course.  The location is great.  Plenty of parking.  You will not find a more friendly attentive staff.  The Manager came by our table to make sure all was well.  The interior is nice and new and clean!
If you can't make it to the Riverwalk, then give them a try.  We will definitely return.

Been here twice for dinner now, ordering appetizers, salads, tacos, and margaritas.
Each time, the food and service has been excellent.

First trip we got a grilled shrimp appetizer with about 6 large shrimp, served with a delicious, smoky aioli which must had had chipotle or pimenton in it. The shrimp were grilled but still juicy, and very tasty dipped in the smoky sauce.

I had a salad with some greens, crab meat, grilled shrimp, mango, pineapple, and pumpkin seeds with a cilantro-honey lime dressing. The dressing was nicely acidic and balanced well with the sweet seafood and fruit. The pumpkin seeds added nice crunch. I thought this was an exceptional salad for the price ($12). The plating was attractive and portions were pretty generous.

On a subsequent visit we had some grilled chicken skewer "tapa" which were 3 small bites of chicken served on tiny beds of sauteed spinach with a couple sauces or aiolis drizzled on top. It was very delicious but I think the shrimp appetizer is a better value if you are hungry.

I had a salad with a huge piece of grilled salmon drizzled in lemon sauce over a bed of greens perfectly dressed with balsamic vinaigrette, corn, tomato, and avocado. I was astounded as the size of the piece of salmon considering the salad was only $12. The dressing was great and it was not over dressed.

My wife had tacos which I only tasted a bite of, but the chicken in them was really delicious.

The Sauza margarita on the rocks was solid and will likely please a lot of people but I prefer a bit less triple sec / agave nectar to really let the tequila shine.

This is great food at reasonable prices. The cooking and plating both have a sophistication that stands out in this restaurant genre. Often "upscale" Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurants have worse food than the cheap places with much higher prices. At Coyote the prices are modest and the food and service really are better than average.

    ****3 1/2 Stars****
I've been to both Coyote Grills, the original in Fairfax and the one in Centreville. The Centreville location is a little different from their Fairfax one. It's more upscale (nothing wrong with that) and they have a new tapas menu in addition to their regular  menu. They DO offer chips and salsa for free but unlike the Fairfax Coyote Grill which keeps refilling them, you have to ask for them. Our waiter explained that they're trying to advertise their Tapas menu, but they won't deny you chips and salsa haha.

Food is good.  I'm a fan of their tacos. Service was good too; our waiter came to check on us often. Kind of miss the patio seating the Fairfax location has. But overall, not bad experience!

Quick Update:  Third time's a charm!  An almost-perfect visit this evening, with a much nicer atmosphere.  Ordered chicken fajitas this time around, and they were excellent.  The chicken is tender, juicy, tasty, yummmy.  Our server was terrific, very attentive, friendly, just wonderful.  I thoroughly enjoyed this visit.  Offer free chips & salsa and we'll consider upping this to five stars!

This place has an expansive gluten free menu (ask your server for it to accompany big menu) and I enjoyed the chicken enchiladas I had, but they were nothing special. No real spice to any of the food here, and the Chips & salsa aren't free.

The best deal here are the drunks. A delicious and good sizes margarita on the rocks for under $7, yes please!

I'd go back if someone wanted to meet there, but I'd rather go the extra miles to Guapos frankly.

I came here with my husband on a Friday night for dinner and drinks after a loooong week. Centreville could definitely use more restaurants, so we were excited to try something new. When we got there, there were a lot of people at the bar, but plenty of open tables in the dining room so we didn't have to wait. The place itself isn't large, but it's still a decent size.

As other reviewers have mentioned, their chips and salsa are not free ($4 if you wanted to order). We ordered them anyways and they're served with three different salsas (they also refilled our chips when we ran out). The one we liked the most was their salsa verde, the other salsas were just mediocre. But if you're not super craving it, I'd probably pass on the chips and get something else.

The drinks were actually pretty great! I had the mad melon margarita (frozen) and my husband got the corazon (on the rocks). For dinner, we ordered the steak wrap and the tex mex eggrolls (from the tapas menu). It was plenty enough to get the both of us full.

As for service, our waitress was very friendly and gave us good recommendations from the menu. Our drinks and food came out pretty fast, so we weren't there for too long. We did have people constantly checking in on us though, which is probably better than not checking up on us. And wow, this place is LOUD. That's the first thing we thought when we sat down. You don't really hear full conversations, just lots and lots of noise. Anyways, I'm sure I'll come back again to try more items from their tapas menu and maybe even for drinks with friends.

We were excited to have a Coyote Grille open in Centreville and we were not disappointed! We visited an hour after they opened and the food, decor and service were excellent!
We decided to host a small private event there - they have a great space for it! Got exemplary service from the manager Dan Kim and our server Julianna was really fantastic! Our event was so successful - everyone raved about the food and service! Dan and Julianna threw in some very thoughtful touches that we very much appreciated. The owner also stopped by to thank us.
We had the carnitas, salmon salad, enchiladas and tacos followed by the flan, key lime pie and the dessert chimichangas - all very good!
They also have a great happy hour!!
Definitely worth checking out - we are loyal customers who will be going back many, many times!

Visited this new location last Friday for dinner and drinks. I'll start with the margaritas, because mine was fantastic. The top level Patron and Grand Marnier with fresh lime juice was so delicious. (Go Patron or go home in my opinion).

The food was okay, I bet they'll get better with time. Guacamole was especially disappointing and didn't taste like freshly made guac.

I'll be back in a few months!

Cowboy Salad, Fajitas, Steak Tacos!  We're going with our Tex-Mex standbys for now and loving it!  Next time friends or family are in town we are headed the "The Grill" for tapas!  Thank you for coming to Centreville!

Note:  Brought my 2 and 4 year old with us, staff was great and the kids meals were devoured.  Suggestion:  children's appetizers - grapes, sliced apples, carrots - simple finger food.

My family and I have been going to the Fairfax location for many years.  With the new restaurant, we thought we check it out to see if there was anything different.

First thing we noticed was that service was very slow, it took 15 mins for anyone to show up at our table, 15 mins to get the check.   The restaurant had plenty of open tables, so no excuse.

First thing first...no more complimentary chips and salsa.  Now you must pay 3.95 for a trio of salsa. Each one was bland.  We added some hot sauce to give it a kick..  I'm not sure why they stopped the free chips and salsa, but it's definitely noticeable.

Food is good as always.  Veggie chimi is grilled and not fried.  Chix and chorizo burrito was excellent.

3.5 out of 5 stars.  Why? Slow service and no more chips and salsa, But food is good as always

No free chips and salsa. This is a good and bad thing. It's bad because this is what you come to expect from a mexican restaurant. It's good that they don't offer it so I don't eat a bucket full of them and wonder if they recycle chips. Gag. We ordered the queso and it wasn't anything special. I don't think they had an option to add chorizo but then again I didn't look at the menu carefully so they might have. IMO the queso needed meat! Don't all dishes? Moving onto our meal. We ordered the carnitas and chicken fajitas. Mine was okay but a bit bland. The chicken fajitas looked strange. They weren't cut like normal chicken fajitas (strips) it almost looked like what chicken in a chinese dish would without sauce. Weird but it tasted okay. I loved the sangria! I believe they added a hint of fresh orange juice.

Our server was really nice and we even had other servers stop by to get us things we needed. They make their own hot sauce - it was alright. I'm not a fan of the smoky/chipotle flavored hot sauces. The decor was nice and the place was extremely clean just didn't "go" with the whole mexican thing which is fine. I didn't think that the place was overly loud either. I would definitely go back for a quick tex mex fix.

Found this place by searching for "mexican food" on yelp.
Make no mistake this place serves, as a friend in Phoenix put it, "gringo food". lol

That said the food was good. The misses had the Carne Asada and I had the Coyote Combo. We had the triple salsa appetizer as well.

As someone else stated this place is loud. If you are looking for an intimate night out with some nice conversation you might want to look elsewhere.

    Food was good.
Prices were consistent with the area.
    Service was good.

Chips are mediocre, taste like they're out of a bag. Salsas are ok, guac is super limey. Got the carnitas ... They're pretty good, perfect portion but not as good as Picante in Chantilly! Love that its so close to home, we'll be back.

Service was good.  Ambiance is great.  Noisy, though.

Really disappointed in the chips. Like ... really, really disappointed.  Got the salsa trio, and frankly, only one had any flavor. The other two tasted like pureed tomatoes...

Discovered they had opened by browsing Yelp looking for dinner ideas, so we dashed over to check them out.

8 pm on a Friday and we got right in.  No complimentary chips, but we tried out the salsa trio.  Two of the salsas were good, the third kind of meh.  Not sure which was which, but the meh one was the less chunky of the reds.

I got fajitas, husband checked out some of the tapas plates, the bacon and shrimp and the meat and cheese sampler, both of which he highly approved.  My fajitas were interesting, I was not too fond of the way the chicken was marinated, but I did admire the small, bite-sized pieces.  Three tortillas.  (Not sure why restaurants always serve three when you end up needing four every time . . .)

The waitress was friendly and very accommodating to food allergy sufferers, which is always nice to encounter in a restaurant.

    We plan to go back!

Very disappointed :(  We were very excited for the opening as we frequent the Fairfax location and this is much closer to home.

We tried to visit on Friday but the place was absolutely packed.  No surprise there as the area is in desperate need of additional dining establishments.   We tried again on
Sunday around 8:50 as closing was listed at 10pm.

There was two tables eating dinner and it appeared that they had just received their meal.  We decided to sit in bar area but were quickly informed that they wanted to close early.  We could order a drink if we could finish in 5 minutes.   No thanks!

I understand it being a slower night but probably not a good idea for a new business to close early with no warning.  We had even called around 8 to see what time they closed and were told 10pm.   They need to have a better system in place.

We headed next to to Chicken and Beer and the staff was very welcoming and happy to have our business!

Tatiana and her staff have created another terrific restaurant.  Definitely one (now two, the original is in Fairfax City) of our favorite places to eat and hang out.  With a wonderful menu, well-prepared and presented dishes, friendly and attentive staff...what more could you possibly want? They also serve brunch items on Sunday. If you save some room, the Tres Leches cake is to die for.  I can't give Coyote Grille a stronger recommendation --  try them once, and you'll be coming back again and again.

Finally somewhat of a bar scene that isnt velocity 5!!! It's tex-mex with a twist that includes delightful tapas and a smooth selection of original margaritas.

We did quite the sampling for our first visit. Four different margaritas, queso, guacamole, salsa trio, southwest roll and the steak de maiz. OMG! I could have licked the plate clean for each plate/bowl placed before us!

    OVERALL
Great atmosphere, I can bet it probably gets a bit loud around Happy Hour but the food is yummy and the drinks satisfying.... a weekday hangout after work, I think so. I can walk here!

Make sure you get the southwest roll, handmade in house, crisp and flaky outside with an ooey gooey inside that drips with flavor. *drool*
