I was skeptical of this place bc of yelp reviews saying they favored regulars...

    it is true.

A group of locals made our way there for dinner one week night, upon sitting down an old blonde bartender barked at us from across the room not to sit down because they don't serve food?

Apparently their kitchen hours are flexible but not in favor of the customer.  It was normal dinner time, midweek. There is no reason the kitchen should have been closed.

I guess if your thirsty it's a good place to go. I had no such luck.

Right across the street. Great place to go after our games. Food is solid. Strangers/regulars at the bar were nice. HLs on the menu which is good. Will definitely check it out again if in the area.

This place is solid. I want to give it 5 stars but that would be my personal preference. For the average person, its a good place. Good food, good drinks, good people. Not a place to go out to party but this place is akin to a best friend. Always there for you when you need most but never superficial or over the top. Great place to hang. Staff is five star

The king of ALL dive bars.  Buck Hunter, Naked Photo Hunt (which was broken the last time I checked but hey maybe it's working again?), an awesome-blossom JUKEBOX, cheap drinks, and relaxed management that allows completely obnoxious kids to play drinking games (beer pong, slap cup, flip cup, whateveridowhatiwant).

Is it worth going out of your way for?  Not quite.  Is it a great destination for aggressive day drinking, assuming it's within walking distance from wherever you live?  Definitely.

david blaine once bent my penny at the bar here. seriuosly. i was at the bar and a creepy dude asked for a penny, proceeded to wrap my hands around it and bend it. i then realized that this creeper was david blaine. hes legit.

bus stop is also legit. super laid back, awesome beer, and the perfect spot to relax with friends in any outfit you so choose. magic.

I don't get why people love this place?

Ok so there is big buck hunter there - the only good thing about it!

The drinks are so so, the decor is so outdated and the bartenders are not nice....

    On to the next one....

This is the best dive bar in Boston - beer by the pitcher, keno at the bar, and the friendliest locals around. Not only do they have a pool table, darts, big buck hunter and naked photo hunt, but they also let you play any drinking game you want. You can move around the tables and set up beer pong or flip cup. Just clean up after yourself aka don't be a jerk and leave everything on the floor. The other great thing about this bar is that they have a jukebox that takes credit card - I've literally spent so much money on that thing that it's embarrassing.

If you don't like the Bus Stop, then take the stick out of your ___ and go back to Wellesley. Possibly the best place to watch a B's game or relax with a couple of beers.

I'd been wanting to try this place for a while so I selected it as the final stop on our Emerald Necklace pub ride. I feel like if you were a regular here you'd be all set, but we were pretty much ignored by the bartender, plus I tried to put in an order for some buffalo fingers, was told the kitchen had closed, yet saw someone get a basket of wings ten minutes after we'd been told no. I bet she was a regular!

I used to hit this place up after softball  for years until our team disbanded last year.  Cheep beer, solid wings and a juke box were the perfect end to a night of beer league slow pitch. Haven't been there since but remember it fondly.

Been going here for quick dinners for years. Definitely a neighborhood bar, with some booths. Good place to meet a group of firends, parking easy, not far from the Pike and Storrow, and Harvard Square. Service is much improved now with some new staff. The food is very dependable. Pastrami sub matched the best in the city. Honey-based Wings were excellent. Burgers, blue plate specials, tips, are all quite good and the price is definitely right. Not the place to take the in laws for a nice quiet dinner, but good food cheap and an easy stop after work.

For a local dive bar/pub, you can't really ask for much else. I mean, they've got a deer head mounted on the wall, with a duck (emblazoned with a Bruins decal) resting on it, a juke box, and a very friendly waitstaff. It's always clean and the food is cheap and actually quite good. I've come in for after-work beers, as well as lunch with my colleagues, and it never disappoints. Obviously, it's not the classiest joint in the world, but it doesn't pretend to be, and it hits the spot every time.

Today, I got a hot sandwich--the sausage with peppers, onions, and mushrooms, with a side of sweet potato fries, and it was all delicious. My friend got another hot sandwich--steak tips with cheese, with a side of potato salad, and said that her meal was tasty as well.

The clientele is always an amusing mix of locals, regulars, and business casual-clad folks, but I think it says a lot that such a vibrant mix of people enjoys coming here for a meal and/or a drink.

If you're looking for a casual good time for either food or beer, I would say to give this place a try.

Excellent dive-y neighborhood bar in Lower Allston.  Delicious, greasy pub food, decent beer selection, and by far the best bartender I've ever encountered.  I can't speak to the strength of his cocktails, but this guy is on his game.  Leaves you the eff alone until your last sip and then he's on you like the plague, politely asking if you want another one.

I live around the corner from here and can't wait to become a grizzled old regular like everyone else in this bar.

With some of the friendliest and endearing regulars, the Bus Stop Pub stands out from similar establishments in the area because of its size.  Not feeling it at one end of the bar? Why go to the other, grab a high top table, booth or better yet come with a large group, take over the juke box and create your own atmosphere - it's allowed here.  The food is much better than the interior would lead you to believe.  A stand out are the chicken fingers - not your standard battered dry pub style but a variety of flavors.  My personal addiction is the teridactial flavor but the thai peanut sauce is also amazing.  Burgers are also great.  Service is always quick and while the bartender may seem grouchy at times it is all part of the experience and they keep the beer flowing.  A must try for those of us who love an unpretentious place with a neighborhood feel.

Ahhhh The Bus Stop, or as it's affectionately know as throughout the regulars... The Bucket.

It's not quite a dive, but it's close.  It's a local pub for locals, run by locals.

Bar food, cheap drinks and funny staff... ask for Jack when you're there.  He's one of the best bartenders EVER, with some of the funniest stories.

ohhhh bus stop pub, how amusingly shady you are. Not exactly a place I would be caught dead in on a regular day, but a perfect place to wear my "I've got 99 problems but a KICK ain't one" t-shirt. Conveniently located across from Smith Playground, my kickball team would come here every week after our games.

The prices were pretty ridiculous considering where we were, but they let 20 of us play flip cup in the middle of the dining area. Not many places you can get away with that in!

The Bus Stop is likeable and consistent.  The wings are good, the beer is cold, and there is a pool table and juke box.  There's plenty of space and freedom to enjoy games or rowdy conversation.  We are there weekly after hockey and it's always a good time.  I've never had a hard time finding street parking, either.  Stephanie is always our waitress and she is awesome!

I agree with everyone else on this one. Great place to hang with friends a share a pitcher. Affordable and the air conditioning is awesome! Also, the jukebox kinda rocks but get in there before Doc takes over and runs a "rock block" of 70's stuff. Had a great time! Just wish the pool table had real pool cues instead of the sawed off ones.

The bus stop is always on the list as a solid, chill spot to hang-out. It is probably the only bar in the area that is not filled to sweaty capacity on Friday and Saturday nights.

They offer a pretty inexpensive drink selection and a menu which makes the place easy on the wallet. The staff here is pretty attentive, for the most part, but they all look like they've been working here since the drinking age was 18 and can come off as cranky at times. The patrons here are a bit on the older side and a lot on the townie side - in other words, don't mix up Allston and Brighton or you will be told the difference here.

All and all, not bad... plenty of room with a few parlor games.

There are two types of people that frequent this fine establishment...

    A) Blue and White Collar middle aged men who want a clean place with a cheap drink.
    B) Harvard Business School students who want a clean place with a cheap drink (this is the closest bar to the campus).

Highly recommended for large groups of people (tons of space, never too busy)... Standard pub food ala chicken wings, cheese sticks, etc... And very affordable pitchers of beer!

The place looks like it hasn't been remodeled since the late 70s or early 80s.....  Which kind of adds to it's special-kind-of-dive-ness.

Off the beaten track, but worth checking out.  If you are looking for a place to go with a large group at the last minute, Bus Stop can accommodate you (it is always nearly empty save for a few crusty old men).

Pitchers of domestic beer and standard bar eats are very cheap.  Tons of floor space and tables for beer pong, flip cup, or any other of your rowdy gaming poisons.

My favorite thing about this place is that the staff really just staying out of your way.  Don't burn the place down, but otherwise you can pretty much do what you want.  I always do what I want .

The Bus Stop is everything you are looking for in a dive bar and more ... Cheap pitchers! Old school juke box with access to new school music! Drinking games! and Bartenders who don't judge you!

The only problem with The Bus Stop is that it closes too early (by 1am). And the lights are kind of bright. But let's be honest, after all the cups you've flipped, ping pong balls you've sunk, and beer you've drunk - that's probably a good thing.

It might be a bit dirty, and after 10 rounds of beer pong with a group of drunk Harvard business school students, you might wonder where your dignity went, but this dive bar is a must see. Pitchers of beer are relatively cheap, the jukebox has some oldies but goodies, and there is a never-ending supply of plastic cups to make sure flip cup dreams never die.

Oh, the Bus Stop. Everyone has this dive bar that they love. It's not because the bar is especially good, the drinks are excellent, or the food blows your mind; but somehow you find it endearing. It's that bar that you drag your friends to, explaining that it's a dive, but they can't see past the 1970's wood paneling and the locals unironically wearing flannel at the bar. They just don't appreciate quality, they're missing the magic.

This is that bar for Lower Allston. The beer is cheap, the juke box full of classics, the carpeting dingy, and they'll let you play flip cup and beer pong in the bar. You love it because it's your dive bar, filled with memories of drunken nights that end with two-stepping or makes you tear up for that epic beer pong victory.

Don't even try to explain this to your friends, they'll never get it, but hopefully you'll be too drunk to notice.

Yeah, the drinks are reasonable (but not exactly bargain basement prices), the food is ok, there's a jukebox, and you can get cheap pitchers with a bunch of friends... I don't know, I guess that doesn't scream 4 stars to me. There are plenty of other, better options for all of the above that don't involve taking the 86, 70, or -- God help you! -- 66 bus.

The Bus Stop definitely has its charm... to be honest it's a little bit like going out in New Hampshire. So if you're trying to recapture that ski weekend vibe in July, or just jonesin' to live free or die trying, this should do the trick.

Welcome to Narnia.  The Bus Stop Pub may look like a place you wouldn't think about twice, but when you go inside your mind will be blown.  The food, and drink here is average, but good.  The ambiance is classic dive bar, crappy tables, chairs, and beer covered floor.  One thing does distance The Bus Stop Pub from the rest--they actually encourage drinking games!  Yes, you heard it here, throw down a couple brewskies and then play some flip cup.  With the cheapest pitchers and drinks around you can wake up in a pool of your own vomit and still have money to take a cab to the hospital.

This place is also a favorite hangout for Harvard Business students as it is so close to their dorm.  What does that mean?  Well, looking for a sugar daddy?

Bottom Line: No officer, I don't know where my pants are.  If I had known it was your car, sir, I would never have tried to ride it like a rodeo bull.

The official bar of the BSSC and the locals who put up with us. I like their boneless/bone-in wings (the buffalo flavor actually has a palatable kick). Pizza is what you'd expect at a place called Bus Stop. Other menu items look decent as well.

Other positives: Pitchers of frosty brew, big screen TV and other strategically placed flatscreens with the game, and an attentive staff that's on point. I also like the caricature mural and random ski lodge signage.

Please note that I am only reviewing this as a place to go after a BSSC flag football game, and can never see myself coming here otherwise.

BSSC flag football is really a great time and encourage anyone that hasn't tried it to do so. The one problem is that it is on Sundays and you can miss some serious amounts NFL football. But don't worry the BUS STOP comes to the rescue!!!!!

The Bus Stop has plenty of large flat screens showing all of the games with good priced pitchers of cold beer. Nothing is better after running around with out stretching than some more beer.

The food is ok at best, i would just stick with the pizza and wings if you are hungry.

This was a tough one to rate. I would give it 1 star for most times during the year, and 5 stars for early Sunday afternoons in the fall.

And watch out for the Pink team (AKA: Hey that's not my flag) this year!!!

I see the Bus Stop Pub.

I see the Bus Stop Pub.
    And then I drive away.

I see the Bus Stop Pub.
    And then I ride away.

Tonight, my friends, I made it to the Bus Stop Pub and now I will Yelp away.

The Bus Stop Pub is not your average pub.
Oh, hell no,  it is the neighborhood place.  You wanna feed yo face?
Then the Bus Stop Pub is your place.

You wanna some Jack and Coke?
Then, the Bus Stop Pub, is no joke.

What? What's that you say?  You wanna hear some Aretha Franklin play?

Then, look no further than the Bus Stop Pub.

It is where you get some grub, get some drinks, it makes you stop and think.

The jukebox always delights.  I like to go day and night.

This isn't the place you would find me and my friends out on a night on the town, or with my girlfriend eating a romantic overpriced "classy" dinner, or  with a friend visiting from outa town. This is the place you come to with your buddies on a random night with nothing to do, to down some very affordable libations, play some ghetto ass pool for a buck  a game (or darts) and eat some decent greasy sh*t (pizza, wings, etc) that will let all that inexpensive beer sit oh so nicely in your overly abused gut.

No seriously though, for a cheap couple drinks, decent bar food, and good place to take the friends your too embarrassed to take anywhere else, this place is the SPOT. The service is pretty cool too. Oh and lastly they just got a HUGE new projection TV that would look pretty sick if they had they're HD hooked up to it.

4 stars for friendly help, cheap beers, ghetto pool or darts, and a really big tv!

ps. coat check = 1 hook on the wall next to the pool table, perfect for your hoodie

Ordered the grilled chicken breast and was served two charcoal briquettes instead.  The chicken was so overcooked that it smelled of burnt ash, not to mention the black film of darkness that it caught from the grill.  As others have mentioned, this place isn't expensive, but $9.95 for charcoal is a little pricey.

Normally, this dining experience would earn 2 stars, but there was a disagreement over the final bill that left me a little more than unhappy.  I'll spare the painstaking details, but the waitress responded with a 'sorry but no exceptions' type of response.  In the restaurant world, that is simply unacceptable.  There are ALWAYS exceptions and working with the customer to reach an amicable compromise is a priority.  Being in the foodservice industry myself, that is what I live by.

This was my first visit to the Bus Stop Pub and if they had any sense of retaining my business, they should have worked towards a compromise.  But to throw up a wall and say absolutely not is not only unacceptable, it's downright disappointing.  Go there for the greasy and tasty bar menu, but stay away from the entrees priced $9.95 and up.  And be sure to leave any high expectations of a keen business sense at the door.

If you ever play BSSC ANYTHING (for me, it was flag football), then you go here after the game.  Greasy pizza, greasy wings, greasy soda, greasy beer... well, not really.  But it's awesome damn greasiness.  Delicious greasiness.  Nothing has ever tasted better after winning a division championship (what whaaaat!).  So, obvs you're not getting gourmet, top-of-the-line stuff, here.  But who cares!?  You're at a place called "The Bus Stop!"  You do the math.

And the BSSC crowd goes CAH-RAY-ZEE.  Which is entertaining, until the droppy-boobed 40-pluser decides to flash the bar, knock into the flip cup table, then proceeds to spread parmesan cheese all over the booth... and then falls down... and it's only 11 am on a SUNDAY.  Geesh, what a way to praise the Lord.

    Four stars:

+1: I felt like I was at The Lobo or some other bar where Roseanne would either be a client or my server
+1: The prices are cheap, which is hot in Boston
+1: The clientele is relatively normal for a bar atmosphere like this...besides some rando locals with mullets & tapered jeans, there were a fair amount of decently attractive college-aged folk
+1: FLIP CUP!? FINE BY ME
-1: The Bus Stop Burger just didn't sit right--cut to me leaving The Barbarian Group party early because it felt like I ate 4 bricks...that were slowly eating away at my organs

This place looks pretty ghetto from the outside, but after walking from Harvard Square in that clusterfuck of a snowstorm the other night,  the Bus Stop Pub looked like a warm oasis.  Stopped in for a drink and a snack while warming up, and although I was initially skeptical, the Bus Stop Pub was actually pretty damn good. My glass of Cabernet was cheap and palatable, and my boyfriend's vodka tonic was strong. Fries were piping hot and salty and mozzarella sticks...well, those were just like everywhere else. The waitress was definitely casual, but very attentive and upbeat. I don't think I would go back here for a night out, but would certainly stop in for a drink when I'm passing by.

So last night, after I fell ass over head on the last play in the last inning, and was tagged out by the big dude on the opposite team as I lay on the base line between 1st and 2nd, I really needed to drink. And I needed to drink with my teammates, so they would forget about how horribly I bit it...and cost us the game....

We went to the Bus Stop! We started out at the bar, squished between the back wall and the bar itself, until me and another guy realized there was a pool table. So then I opened my fat mouth and said, "I may suck at softball, but I'm actually good at pool!" Thus ensued a evening long tournament of drunken pool and stupid insults, mostly about people's moms and small wieners.

We ordered pizza, pepperoni and pineapple -- AMAZING. There was a rosemary spice on the pizza, and combined with the parm-reggiano cheese, it was a taste sensation that made me forget all about my skinned up leg (or maybe it was that and the beer, I dunno). We also ordered sweet potato fries, which came out crispy and dark brown, only intensifying the caramelized flavor of the tuber -- Whoa Nelly! The beer flowed freely, and the wait staff was quick to keep our pitchers full. The beer actually made me forget about my little graceful swan dive until this morning, when I felt like King Tut's great aunt, climbing out of bed.

All of these great elements, combined with lots of old school Bon Jovi and Joplin, made me have a terrific time. Totally going back here to drown my sorrows and bribe teammates with booze when I lose the game.

I love this place. It's such a local pub. Laid back, decent bear, alot of tv's. Not many girls though, not a pick up bar. But its a great place to chill with a buddy to eat decent wings and cheap bear. Kinda looks like a really big diner, but beggers can't be choosers. Those who are looking for a place out side of Harvard Square, come here, friendly people and it won't break the bank...

i heart the bus stop big time!

maybe its because we have derby practice across the street and few things are as good as a grilled cheese and pbr after skating around but regardless it is cheap pub food and cheap beer.

oh. and also the regulars will sometime all sing together.
