Walking by starving we gave this place a go. The service was amazing - so friendly even though their grill is out of service. I ordered the smoked salmon omelette which was pretty incredible and just the right amount of hash browns and toast. The toast was made with rustic bread which was awesome. I ordered a "side" of bacon for $4....dear God...it was a VAT of bacon...no joke...like over ten pieces.

Are you looking for a decent restaurant in a nice and quiet community? Are you willing to spend some more money for something tasty? Well, if you said yes, this place could have your answer. The name sounds funny, because when I think "Regal", I think of people who are really noble, and when I think "Beagle", I think of dogs, since a "Beagle" is a breed of dog that seems to be fun to play with.

Since I go to Coolidge Corner almost every weekend, I constantly walk by this place, wondering whether or not the food is actually good here. I called a girl that I recently met to get some lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We met up sat down, and started eating some food.

I decided to get the Macaroni and Cheese with Pork Belly. It is moderately priced at around $16, but the portions are fairly moderate for lunch. The girl that I recently met ordered the "Beagle Benedict", which are these poached eggs with ham served on an English muffin. They come with these chunks of fried potatoes.

The Pork Belly Macaroni and Cheese is pretty good, I loved the tender roast pork, and the sticky and somewhat crispy cheese. I would say that it is worth the extra several dollars to get the pork belly. The girl that I recently met said that the potatoes are not great. I agree with her, they were kind of dry and definitely not well cooked. The eggs and ham were really tasty, and I liked the flavor. Although the Beagle Benedict was tasty, I probably would not recommend this dish unless they really improve on the potatoes.

This place is at a great location in Coolidge Corner. Service was surprisingly very quick for a typical sit down restaurant. Interior is nice, but if they can actually put the air conditioner on when the temperature is more than 25 degrees Celsius, then this place would be more comfortable to sit in.

Overall, this is a solid choice if you are looking for a decent neighborhood restaurant in a nice and quiet community. This place may not have the best food in the nice and quiet community of Brookline, but it's still a good choice. I may not recommend this place for breakfast, but I would probably recommend this place if you want a decent lunch.

The raw salmon special app was tasty, and I also enjoyed the scallops over purple! rice.  My For Shonny drink was pretty good, too.  And how can anyone resist the bread sticks?!  I think they fry them.  Yum.  Above average food.

Unfortunate name (bad memories of 70s TV). Fabulous food. Better cocktails.

If you come to Regal Beagle, I recommend you to come for dinner. If you're looking for a fairly nice place to go especially after catching a movie from the Coolidge Corner theater, this is the place to go.
Their seared salmon + asparagus was fantastically done- fish oil oozing out, soft with excellent presentation.
They have an extensive alcohol and cocktails menu. Last I tried was "The Girl Next Door", concocted out of Absolut Ruby Red, orange liqueur, sparkling wine, and freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. Small quantity for $10 a glass, but they're on the strong end and fully worth it.

Back end of Regal Beagle has high tables and chairs vs. the front so if you're looking to get cozy for a long conversation, request the front. Dinner atmosphere is very relaxing and quite romantic with dim lights and warmth during the winter.
I have a fond memory of my first visit here because I was so comfortable to the point where I was able to cry publicly after talking out my problems to a friend. The sobs didn't stop for much of the dinner, but the warm setting of Regal Beagle helped me let go of a lot of feelings I was harboring for much of the winter last year and I'm very thankful for that.

With the end of the long, dreary winter of 2012 and the advent of wonderful 90 degrees summer this year, I returned to Regal Beagle to try their brunch menu with a fellow yelper :) Had their Beagle Benedict.
Similar to the eggs benedict @ nearby Hops and Scotch, the benedicts were done well- the yolk oozed out perfectly. But I can't help knowing that I can get the same @ Martin's Coffee Shop in Brookline village a few blocks away at a cheaper price in my favorite diner atmosphere + I can watch my meal being made on the skillet!
The muffin was a little on the hard side. The side of potatoes were hard and rather dry and just luke warm, needs a lot of work.

It was hot at the rear end of Regal Beagle. Air condition doesn't seem to circulate the back as much...not that this is as big of an issue when it's not a heat wave. Nothing outstanding about the service but they get the job done. It was PACKED on a Sunday, including the bar. People were drinking up already late noon, classy peeps.

Searching for new places to eat, and specifically brunch in this instance, led us to Brookline, and this little spot that we were surprised to have never gone to considering the several Zaftig's forays.

Started with the blue cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon that another review recommended, and I will second that with gusto - what a great little bite to enjoy.

I had the pulled pork hash, which was very good. I did notice that the potatoes were a bit bland, but the very falvorful hash covered the entire dish which nicely compensated.

One of my dining partners had a special, the Banana Foster French toast, which was delicious, but probably a bit light if you are looking for a full meal.

The last guest had the Smoked salmon omelet, which looked/smelled great. He did not share, so I need to take his word that it was outstanding.

My favorite dinner spot in Brookline for a casual night with friends or a date. The food is always delicious and the service is great. Watch your timing since there is usually a wait for dinner. Their brunch is also amazing!! I've tried most things on the menu however my favorites have to be-

    The Duck Tacos
The Burger on their Brunch menu (omg....salivating)
    The Bread Pudding
    Dates wrapped in bacon

This is my new favorite restaurant of ALL TIME. I have been to the RB about 3 times now and every single time the food has been consistently delicious, creative and accompanied by excellent service.

Drink: Dark Ryeder with extra cherries
Food: Blue Cheese Fondue with Fried Buffalo Sauced Crutons (Seasonal)

Favorite Server: Meagan (she's saucy, gives excellent recommendations and is generally just on-point)

Just go. Seriously - you'll love it.

Not sure what has happened to this place over the years but my most recent visit I left feeling disappointed.

I've been frequenting this spot since it opened. I loved the ambiance, food and creative drinks. It had been a while since we had a full dinner here so we stopped by.

The reason I didn't give this 2 stars is because the staff is great. Always friendly and knowledgeable of the menu.

We started off with the stuffed dates which were (and always have been) a delicious treat. The Rock Shrimp Ceviche Tostada was disappointing. The flavor was bland and the avocado chunks were not ripe enough. The shrimp also appeared to be from a frozen bag.

For entrees I ordered the special (Tri-tip). It was cooked well but nothing about it "wow-ed" me. My date ordered the Crispy Chicken. The chicken COMPLETELY lacked flavor and was very chewy. It was almost as if they boiled a chicken breast then tossed it on a grill to blacken it. The mashed potatoes were cold and the fries tasted like they had been sitting out for days.

All in all.. I think I will have to take the Regal Beagle off of my "go-to dinner list". Its a great spot for some cocktails..and I like that they offer more than just California wine but the food has become a huge disappointment.

Food at the Beagle is still very tasty, but it seems their portions are shrinking with each visit! It's been this way for at least a year now. It's just a bit annoying to order a $20+ fish plate and receive a teeny-tiny tapa. I can't remember how many dates they used to serve, but the time before last we got five and just the other day we got four. Just a head's up to the chef--people notice.

I had no idea the place was so dark at night. When we first walked in, I can barely see. But I like what they are offering. Varieties of cocktails, wines, and beers. With the place titled Regal Beagle and the logo on their menu and staffs' T-shirt, I'm sure people will love to get souvenirs.

Great spot for a cocktail and snack after work.  It was much less crowded than usual during our last visit, which meant that we scored a high top in the back.  Yess!  My fiance liked his burger and the fries were pretty a-ok. I don't recommend the grilled calamari, though.  It tastes... burnt.

If you're a big fan of draft beer, you'll leave disappointed.  No beers on tap, but a decent selection (including rotating seasonals) available in bottles.

If 1/2 stars were options, Regal Beagle would be an easy 3.5.  The service was attentive, so we'll bump it to 4 stars for now.

I went there for a date here once, it was a nice small restaurant in coolidge corner. I liked the ambiance but had to wait about 20 minutes at the bar. I got a cognac drink which was strong enough for me. I got the burger, which was nothing amazing but still good. I can find/make a better one for the same price. And my date got the chicken pot pie which was also alright but did not wow anyone other than the chicken before ... you know the rest.

My group of 4 loved everything we got here. The eggs --scrambled-were amazing. How do they make eggs amazing? I have no idea. I had a dish that had braised meat and it was delish. I cant wait to go back here.

I really like this place. Wish they had more space in the bar area, and I also wish they would standardize their sangria across bartenders, as I have had good and very bad ones here. But the menu has some really great items, the ambiance is great, everyone is very nice- the servers don't seem to be phased by having to shuffle through the people at the bar either- and it is so great to have a place like this in coolidge corner. The mac and cheese is also amazing.

Word to the wise- if you order the calamari, note that it is grilled, not fried! It is a straight up tentacle- so don't be surprised like I was! I will definitely read the menu more carefully next time!

    bumping this to a shocking...3.5

after my first experience here, I decided I needed to give it another try. Well, it fell short of amazing again. The menu is small and sadly, nothing jumped out at me and said EAT ME!!! I opted for the lunch special, pan seared scallops with fingerling potatoes, cost the same as their burger and I wanted something light. win win. My friend got a burger. My scallops were cooked perfectly and the bacon sauteed greens, tasted great! overall a delicious dish.

down to the nitty gritty. Service is ok. We were the only customers for about 15 mins so we got all the attention. I like attention haha. We ordered our food before most of the other customers did, so I was a bit annoyed our food came out so slowly. this happened last time too. Im not saying I want my food out in under 5 mins, thats not fair. but i think a good 10-15 mins went by. I was hungry and the time was ticking on my meter outside. yes, I could have put in more quarters, but I think 1 hour is more than enough for lunch, no? lets just say I made it to my car with less than a min to spare and a meter maid just a few cars away, PHEW.

I dont want to have lunch worrying that I will run out of time and then rush my meal so that I can get back to work ontime.

Overall, this is a nice neighborhood place to stop into, but it's not my go-to place. there are many more places I can go.

The first time I went here for brunch with friends, I got an amazing omelette that I don't even think it's on the menu anymore, which is a shame. I was so excited to come here again, on a brunch date, and left a bit disappointed.

First off, we were crammed into a tiny two person table. I literally felt like I couldn't move half the time, and at any minute I was going to knock everything over. Take a table out. Let your patrons breathe.

I got a mimosa, plain and simple, and the French toast. I felt like I was eating a huge slab of bread. It was barely eggy and so dry and chewy, AND it came out with syrup already on it- not nearly enough, I might add. I like to drown my French toast in syrup and butter, and I expect it to, you know, have eggs in it? It was pretty underwhelming. My date liked his food though.

No wonder the brunch line at Zaftigs is way longer.

Cute place with good coffee, good bloody's, and a small but tasty menu. I had the avocado-tomato benedict, which is something I've never seen before. My friends who got the standard benedict were not as happy with their choice as I was with mine, so I'd recommend trying something else based on what they said.

And the bread pudding is perfect to split with a couple of friends.

Compared to other restaurants in Boston that have the similar menus and styles I was not impressed by The Regal Beagle

We came here a few weeks ago for a dinner date with another couple. It was a Friday night and pretty busy but the restaurant seemed well staffed.

Our waiter was very nice but wasn't the best waiter. He told us the cocktail special but never told us the dinner special. I wouldn't' have even noticed until I heard him tell the table next to us after we had already ordered our dinner. Normally I wouldn't mind but I really wanted fish that night and ended up settling for the salmon on the menu then I heard that there was fish as a special that I missed out on. whomp whomp.

Drinks and food all took quite some time to come out.

I had read the yelp reviews before coming here and saw that there were a lot of negative and position reviews so I tried to keep an open mind. Based on reviews we decided to try the dates. They were good but anything wrapped in bacon is good. I wasn't overly excited about them.

The BF got the sirloin, which he asked to be cooked medium rare. It came out and was definitely over cooked. I felt bad for him because there is nothing worse than over cooked steak. The potatoes that came with them were a cheesy greasy mess. Yes, they were good, but in a gross-goingtohavetothrowtheseup-kind of a way.

The other guy with us got the lamb shanks which he loved, I didn't try them so I have no comment.

The other lady and I got the salmon. My boyfriend questioned why I got salmon since we eat it at home all the time but A. I had been wanting to try salmon at a restaurant (to see how the professionals do it) and B. I really wanted fish.

Everyone is quite right about the salmon portion. It's TINY. It was cooked fine, nothing to write home about. I feel bad about ordering that meal now because I know I've cooked better at home but I figured it would be something special at a restaurant. I think I got four brussel sprouts cut in half on my plate, if that. Its amazing how that meal cost $20. As soon as we got home we all started snacking. I get portion sizes and I never expect chain restaurant large but I do expect to be fed, especially for $20.

I am not cheap about food and I will splurge when it comes to putting something amazing in my mouth. Reagle Beagle was a disappointment. It is not worth the money, especially when there are much better restaurants within walking distance. Stop trying to be classy RB, it doesn't suit you.

I will only tell you if you get up from my bar stool, as this review must have been why you're sitting in it!

My current favorite in the 'hood.  Good food and fair prices.  Great staff.  The "Neighborhood Joint" definitely suits it - lots of regulars.

The bar definitely can get a little crowded.  They keep the number of reservations low so they can have more tables for walk-ins.

Rock Shrimp Cechive Tostada - $8 - Three small tortilla chips with soggy jicama (i didn't know this was even possible?) and a few shrimp WITH THE VEINS STILL IN THEM. ew. You couldn't go the extra 1/8th of a mile to take the veins out? Very unappetizing.

Winter Greens - $9 - SMALL portion of greens for nine dollars. The dressing was VERY overpowering. Had to load my bites up with lots of goat cheese to mellow it out.

Mac & Cheese - $12 - I mean, it was fine?  It's mac and cheese, but the truffle oil seems like a cop out afterthought to make meh/unmemorable mac-n-cheese "fancy".

Waitress was over attentive in that annoying "let's be best friends!" way until it was time for us wanting the check.

One star because I liked the wallpaper.

Sorry Regal Beagle, I was not impressed for the price/quality ratio and won't likely be back.

Really good brunch, great bloody mary's which is always great for brunches. The omelets are good, they don't have a huge menu. But what they go have are rich ingredients. Good place for a easy Saturday morning brunch with friend.

I really liked the cozy, trendy, casual atmosphere. The quality of the food is great and there are some unique options on the menu. The bacon wrapped dates are pretty amazing. It looks like they have a good bar selection but I did not partake on this particular night so I can't offer an opinion. It was pretty laid back when I went but I think a reservation on a weekend night would be wise if they take them. I can't wait to go back.

The cocktails are interesting and strong, and that's about the only positive thing I can say for this place.

Restaurant? I don't think so. The salmon was good, but an appetizer-sized portion for $20? Unacceptable, bordering on ludicrous. If you want to be a bar that serves small plates, then do that. Don't charge me entree prices for a dinky, mostly-empty plate. This is the first time I've ever actually felt annoyance at seeing a meal's portion size. Simply put, you are a fool if you order food here.

By the way, waitress Janell? Just because your speaking tone is chipper and upbeat, that doesn't excuse your "you're wasting my time" attitude. Work on it or find a job outside the service sector.

Regal Beagle, I'd give you 2 stars, but you're already waaaaaaay overrated at 4, so down to 1 I go. I won't be sad if you go out of business.

EDIT 1/15/13: Someone from The Regal Beagle contacted me after I wrote this. Specifically because the message was PRIVATE and not public groveling (I abhor both, but the find the latter utterly tasteless), I'm going to go ahead and bump up the rating to 2 stars; they at least care a bit. I would doubt the portion size is going to be addressed though, as I see another recent visitor had a similar issue. No one expects (or even WANTS) Cheesecake-Factory-sized dishes, and I grudgingly accept gouging via drink price as a business necessity, but come on -- feed your customers.

I really wanted to like this place having heard so much about it from my girlfriend. She had been talking about visiting here for a few weeks and on Saturday November 17th we decided to give it a try. We arrived just about 6 p.m. and we were told it would be about a twenty minutes wait for a table and we headed toward the back bar area for a drink. The bar area was very crowded and it was a bit of a hassle to get a drink while keeping out of the way of the waitstaff coming and going from the kitchen.  We ended up getting a table in the bar area and informed our server to notify the hostess that we would be sitting in the bar area.

The service  was a bit harried and our waiter failed to inform us of any of the evening specials. We only knew about them after hearing them described to the couple at the next table.

We started off with a Autumn Greens salad with grilled pumpkin and cranberries. The salad was good, but could have been a bit bigger. for our entree, my girlfriend ordered the Mac & Cheese and I ordered the Beef Brisket. The Mac & Cheese was a huge portion and we ordered it with the pork confit (basically pieces of pork loin). The Mac was hot in some spots and cold in others and we are not sure how this happened. Did they mix in the cold pork confit as an afterthought? My Beef Brisket was in a wonderful sauce, but more than half of the beef was solid fat. Someone in the kitchen should have noticed this during the preparation.

My girlfriend would like to go back and give the Regal Beagle another try, but they lost me on the spotty quality of the food and the preparation. I may go back

Regal Beagle is the perfect location for a first date. Reason being..it is a hip and trendy bar with yummy food. On a first date, you really want to keep things casual and laid back. The light-hearted atmosphere at Regal Beagle will make a Nervous Nancy feel right at ease.

Appetizers: The tuna tartare has an interesting twist. The pieces of raw tuna are large so I feel like this dish is more of a sashimi and tartare hybrid combination. The fish is fresh and tasteful. My only issue with this dish is that the potato chips that are served just do not go well together with the tartare.

Dinner: The roasted blue cod is a great choice. It is served with mushrooms, celery and black olive puree. I enjoyed this dish very much.

I still have not tried Regal Beagle for Brunch and I have heard awesome things. I will update this review once I check out the Brunch...meaning I will be returning to this joint!

My boyfriend and I spent a rainy Friday evening here.   Both the weather and our meal was mixed.  I'd come back here, but I'm not sure I'd be excited about it.  Here's why:

    The drizzles:
-No beer on tap and waitress put in our drink order wrong (non-descript pilsner instead of the glorious Racer 5 IPA)
-Mediocre steak for my boyfriend.  We determined that the quality of the meat tasted cheap, even though it was cooked as requested.

    The positives:
-Scallops were delicious.  Slightly crispy and well complemented by butternut squash.  Leeks were superfluous though - tough and difficult to eat.
-Hostess held our table on a busy Friday night
-Portions were reasonably sized and left room for a trip to JP Licks across the street!

Came here for a celebratory brunch after my good friend found out she passed the massachusetts bar exam. appropriately (both with regards to the occasion, and to our natural inclination to be as close to alcohol as possible) we sat at the bar.

It was a Friday, so there wasn't a brunch menu, and we ended up sharing a couple of more lunch-y items... which is always fine for me. The burger was good, and came with some delicious pickles and a special sauce who's name escapes me... but it was a close approximation to every other special sauce ever (ketchup + mayonaise + a splattering of other non-essentials). The steak tacos were also good, although I'm not the biggest fan of beans in my tacos.

The 5 stars, however, are most definitely for the drinks/bartender... I stuck to the bloody mary, which was spicy and included housemade veggie-infused vodka and a spicy string bean. My friend also had some nice looking cocktails, and the bartender (byron I think?) was a good partner in crime... letting us try the 'bison grass vodka' (which I found intriguingly perplexing), showing off his newly purchased jewish vodka (apparently this is a very jewish 'hood), and picking up one of the cocktails in honor of my friend earning her ESQ.

All in all, if I ever happen to find myself in boston again (maybe if I take a wrong turn? ...on a road, or in life. just kidding. boston's not so bad.), I'd definitely hit up this spot again.

I had a pretty solid dinner here a few weeks ago. The service was great and the food was decent, but I wasn't blown away by anything. We started with the bacon wrapped dates, which were definitely the highlight of the meal. For my entree I ordered the mac n' cheese with pulled pork. Unfortunately it wasn't hot throughout (even though the skillet itself was very hot) and I just wasn't crazy for the combination of flavors. My boyfriend ordered the burger -- large and filled with fresh ingredients -- but again, I just wasn't blown away.

I would definitely come back if I was in the area but probably won't make the trip out to Brookline for it.

I went here with my girlfriend last weekend, and since she's already reviewed it, I figured I'd be lazy and just modify her review as necessary:

Came in for lunch with the boyfriend [girlfriend] and have to say, we were both ravenous [I was actually just very hungry and in no way a bird of any kind], but the food was really tasty. We both got drinks and a burger [is it still a burger if there's no meat? Silly vegetarian girlfriend], nothing fancy, but we loved the fries, the burgers were both good, and my Veggie Mary was just what I needed at the moment [i.e. she was hungover. I had a craft beer. It was good and not overpriced]. It's a small but clean space, our server was really nice, and we got in and out with no problem and none of that interminable check-waiting that sometimes happens during a late lunch [she waits for the check, I pay it. It's not a perfect system, but it seems to work. For her].

    Thumbs up [Ditto].

I went during lunch on a weekday, which was a great time, as it was pretty much empty. Andy the bartender was great, personable & knowledgable. Made a delicious bourbon cocktail for me.

The mac and cheese with pulled pork was scrumptious -- the pork was tender, and pasta cooked well, and just the right amount of breading baked on top and sprinkled with sea salt. Maybe not the best I've ever had, but I've had some unbelievable mac and cheese.

I won't be rushing back, but it's certainly on my radar now.

The reason for the 3-star review is mainly due to food (and the often slow service even on nights that aren't busy - but the staff is friendly).

The drinks are average cocktail price, and some of them are actually quite cute. I would recommend coming here, but only for drinks.

The food...quite disappointing. It's nothing amazing. Comparable to so many places....except the portion sizes are the tiniest things I have ever seen. I felt as if each bite was $5, and that I wasn't paying for quality, just paying to be there. I've gone to many places where you received small portions, but the food was so delicate, so well-made...you only needed those few bites to feel so satiated. I love to pay for good food - but to pay high prices for "eh, it's okay" food seems silly.

For my last night in Boston I decided to break out of my standard cheap eats mode and have something a little more slow-foodish.  After checking my trusty Yelp app, I settled on the Regal Beagle which is just a short walk from my hotel.  Turns out it was a great choice.

The Beagle is a small establishment, narrow and deep.  The decor is kind of a throwback to the 70's (red flocked wallpaper, yeah!) but I hope they don't change it - it really feels homey and welcoming.

One of the specials for the evening was Roasted John Dory.  Being an Oklahoma kind of guy, we don't get decent seafood so that sounded like a good plan.  I was given some homemade bread and butter to gnaw on while I waited; really good stuff.

After a not-too-long wait, the meal arrived.  It looked and smelled great.  I would have taken a picture but the light is low and I didn't want to use the flash and look like a complete nob.  Trust me, it looked great.  And looks were not deceiving; the fish was perfectly prepared and tasted fantastic.  It was served with a confit of fennel, onion and garlic along with grilled leeks.  The components worked together very well - symphonically well.  Always wanted to use that word somewhere...

John Dory is usually not an inexpensive dish.  But my dinner tonight with a ginger ale at the bar and coffee for afters came in at a very modest $26 and change, which was the deal of the day in my opinion.  The service was friendly and attentive, and the manager himself came by to ensure everything was ok.  I will definitely return on my next trip to Boston and I highly recommend the Regal Beagle to others.

Regal Beagle is like a date I should be totally into, given our common interests--cocktails, cozy atmospheres, and fresh, local produce!--but the chemistry just isn't right. I want to like the Regal Beagle more than I actually do.

The intimate setting was perfect for a long overdue ladies' catch-up session. While every other table was occupied on a Thursday evening, the noise level didn't prevent us from talking and hearing each other across our table. Cocktails were a must after the workday, and I enjoyed the Petit Flower.

We shared the guacamole and the roasted beet salad as appetizers. It was nice that the chips that came with the guacamole had been recently fried and were even still a little warm, but the appetizer as a whole was "meh." The roasted beet salad seemed rather small--it looked like about a cup of roasted, diced beets, topped with a small handful of arugula. The beets and arugula were nice and fresh, but the dish lacked something to make it pop.

I had the fazzoletti as my entrée, which our server described as similar to deconstructed lasagna, and this turned out to be quite accurate. The pasta was like a series of very thick ribbons, mixed with a variety of vegetables like sliced cabbage, haricot verts, and summer squash, and topped with a few dollops of ricotta. The sauce that came with the dish, a tomato brodo, didn't really seem to work with the dish; it was difficult to eat the pasta without dripping the broth-like sauce everywhere.

No complaints about the service, and the manager even visited each table to see how the diners were doing, which was a nice touch. I really do want to like this establishment, and this does feel like a "It's not you; it's me" situation. Maybe the mac n' cheese will win me over? Or one of the desserts? I'll probably be back, but more so out of convenience (with a friend living in the neighborhood, who's hard to book if we don't meet on her turf) than to try and generate an actual spark with the place.

Regal Beagle was trying a new menu the night I went, which was pretty exciting. We sat at the bar waiting for our table (maybe ten minutes?). I had a delicious vodka tonic and my guy had a beer.

We had the Pibil Tacos for a starter. They were really flavorful and great to share.

For entrees, I had the Pan Seared Salmon and he had the Grilled Colorado Lamb. Mine came with a delicious ratatouille. I prefered the lamb, though - it was out of this world!!

The prices were a bit "yikes" inducing for a casual place in Brookline, but for a date night, they were acceptable.

Next time I'd like to try the bacon-wrapped dates, the roasted beets or the pork bellies. YUM!

I wanted to like this place way more than I did. I love the wallpaper, the atmosphere is a-ok, the drink prices are reasonable but.. gah.

Service was terrible, the place was almost empty and yet the hostess sat us next to the ONE loud table in the whole restaurant. And then the waitress proceeded to not drop by to take our order for ten-fifteen minutes. The Cotes du Rhone I ordered was just swell, but my hummus on the other hand... the experience is still making me gag.

I mentioned I was vegan, so I asked for no feta. What came out, then hummus itself was y'know, hummus. Hummus is hummus unless you add flavor and spice, you just have ground chickpeas. It was topped with cucumber and red onion. Still, passable and good in my book. Now the problem: the pita bread. It. was. fishy. Like, legit fishy. Did they toast the bread over the fish grill? Did they coat it in fish oil? It was terrible. Worst food experience I've had in the past two years.

I was going to inquire what they did with the waitress, but she didn't drop by again. So, I got to eat my hummus but the forkful and ate about half of it to try and flush the fishy taste from my mouth then gave up.

It was so icky. So, so, so bad. Despite them having a vegan dessert: vegans BEWARE!

For some reason, to me The Regal Beagle sounded like a college bar. This could not be further from the truth.

Instead of unsanitary and obnoxious, it's candlelit and comfortable. Ideal for either a date or just a few drinks with friends, it turns out this is truly a neighborhood joint, and a stellar one at that.. The service is friendly, the cocktails are excellent, and the food is delicious. The menu lends itself to both snacks while drinking, or a full meal. We were only there to enjoy the former, but the pumpkin hummus and the bacon-wrapped dates were perfect for our purposes, and paired well with the Hudson Baby Bourbon that I'm always happy to see behind the bar.

The Beagle is my new favorite spot in Coolidge Corner, and I'll gladly be back any time I need to escape my family for a few. Maybe even with them.

    But only if they're buying.

Stopped by here for drinks with a friend on our way to pottery painting. She ordered the Girl Next Door and I got the Petite Flower. Both were sweet and fruity, but I liked her drink a lot more than mine. Mine sort of just tasted like simple syrup mixed with water.

We also decided to munch on some falafel, which wasn't bad but was kind of overly-crispy to the point of being difficult to cut.

Service was awful. Yes, we were sitting in the bar area and just getting drinks (more or less), but that shouldn't make a difference in terms of service. Our server was cold and unfriendly, and acted like he was doing us a favor by taking our orders. He visibly sighed impatiently when we asked for more time in determining our drinks. When our orders were placed, he pretty much ignored us for the rest of the night.

Don't think I'll be coming back here.

I really like The Regal Beagle. I've been here a few times for brunch and once for dinner.

For brunch I always have the Club Sandwich with a Fried Egg. What's the point in getting anything else? It's so good and made the way it should be!

For dinner I had a Negroni to drink. It's a classic drink and great for those who love strong, bitter cocktails.

I followed with the Crispy Pork Belly (so crispy, so good) and the Mac and Cheese. I know you can get the MnC for brunch but for aforementioned reasons I never have. It was delicious. I also had a side of Butternut Squash Risotto which we all devoured.

My girlfriend got the Chicken and Dumpling Soup, which she didn't like and complained about it tasting bland. She then ate half my Mac and Cheese.
