The food was good, but wasn't real timely.  Placed our order and waiting almost 20 minutes for sandwiches.  The place wasn't busy at all.  Good selection of food and the food was very yummy!

Beware! I tried to use a $30 Groupon with a $15 cash value and "Mo" (to the best of my knowledge) gave me a really hard time, might have even broken the Groupon terms.

First, I'm a single person and I received this Groupon as a birthday gift. So, here's happy little me going to spend my birthday money. I have a single drink and some boneless wings. My total is just under $13.

I go to pay with the Groupon and I'm told a manager has to come over and scan my Groupon. After he sees my bill he tells me I "need to drink more". I was confused. He told me I hadn't used the value of my Groupon. I asked if I could have the balance as a gift certificate or otherwise use it on another visit. I'm a single person who has to drive home.

Then he tells me I have to use the whole thing on one visit. Ok, but I'm a single person who eats like a bird. I explained that the Groupon site says it has a "cash value" and that I can use that toward anything.

    I quote from <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.groupon.com%2Fpages%2Funiversal-fine-print&s=64212913909eaec40573515807c57f0a3ce5def193a006ae66ee3ac4cccc6c0c" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.groupon.com/p…</a>:
"The amount paid WILL NEVER EXPIRE and must continue to be honored by the merchant after the promotional value expires. The amount paid may be applied toward any goods or services offered by the merchant if the original goods or services specified on the voucher are no longer available."

The man would not let me use the $15 cash value toward my meal so I ended up forking over my debit card.

As I was leaving, he decided to add that the Groupon also doesn't cover alcohol. So why did you tell me to "drink more"?

I gave the Groupon to my folks with a warning. I will not be going back.

Oh, and my food was "meh". The Long Island Iced Tea was a bit sour (mix?) and my boneless wings were completely average.

In search of Hang-over fare, my wife and I decided to try Starters for the first time this past Sunday.  Pulling into the parking lot around 1:00 and seeing less than a dozen cars was the first sign of things to come.

Let's get down to it...out of the gate we ordered the wing special, Peach Habenero sauce.  I asked my man to make sure the wings were crispy and told him he could even put the sauce on the side (the habenaro being the wild card).  Another waiter/bus delivered the wings about 15 minutes later, slathered in sauce with a texture one could easily describe as "mushy".  Not only did the wings sit in the sauce too long, but they method in which they were cooked did not allow the fat to render out properly.  Nothing like chewing some chicken fat on a Sunday afternoon with a hang-over.

Next stop...burgers!  I did the English Pub Burger and my wife did a "special" burger.  We both asked for medium...we both got 'well' to 'extra well' done burgers.  Even the egg on my burger was cooked too long by about 3 minutes.  Really disappointing, to me the bench mark of a pub is it's wings and burgers, and Starters did not make the cut.  Plenty of other places in the area with better food.

I was here on Tuesday around 8:30PM, I mentioned clam night, and the waitress quickly said something along the lines of ' we are out of clams, they sell out early'. So I decided to order the two of the %50 off burgers. I was looking around the room. Only to find out, that another family had clams at their table. I signaled for the manager to come over, he politely stated that it was a mixup, he said that he was counting how many dozens of clams he had left, and the waitress played along with the manager. Being almost finished with my meal, I ordered four-dozen clams. They brought them to the table in a timely manner, after that incident, the waitress hasn't checked up on our table, until we were ready for our check. Also, the clams were small. Even the burger wasn't that good.

The food was average at best.  We were there for the first Flyers versus Devils hockey game and the crowd was pathetic.  Being a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, that place should have been packed.  Good sports bar atmosphere but I have been to much better.

I'd like to state that for years I enjoyed going to Starters and have enjoyed their food in the past. This used to be THE place to go for wings and beer but for some reason the quality has gone downhill. I find the waitstaff to be inattentive and generally spread too thin, particularly when handling large groups.

The wings themselves have become very small, the sauces are just mediocre or too sweet (I had some hot wings that were..... sour, as opposed to spicy), and I actually had an upset stomach from eating them. My wife's burger appeared to have been basted in some sort of sugary sauce that was absolutely inedible and bordering on "dessert." So she sent it back and ordered a different burger, thinking that she had just ordered something that was intentionally sweet, but the other burger, despite being of a completely different style was also drowned in this sugary sauce. It seems like some sort of preservative or some kind of sugar they drown all their burgers in perhaps? They also used to have phenomenal fries but it seems they changed whatever supplier they had for both regular and the sweet potato fries.

Oh and the lager was kind of flat and had zero of that telltale nuttiness of a good Yuengling draft. They also have very little on draft aside from the usual suspects. It still looks like a decent place to watch a game given the large amount of nice TVs they have but this place used to be a nice place to have a decent casual dinner. I have good memories of Starters, but never again. They've become your standard Sysco sellout in my mind at this point. It's like an upscale Applebees.

Wing nights at Starters are the best. Definitely THE best place to catch a game, especially if you're from the area. Wait staff and people who frequent this bar are friendly, and all local usually too. Starters is about the only thing good left in the shopping center its in, now the the supermarket and movie theater both went out, but it's always been good. Plenty of TVs, too. A couple of years ago when the Phillies went to the World Series, me and 4 of my friends sat in here and watched a whole World Series game between the Phils and Yanks. It was fun, because the bar was pretty much divided as far as Phils phans (pardon the pun) and Yanks fans, but everyone had a great time. Our waiter (whom none of us knew) even sat down to watch the game with us at one point since he knew we were all Phillies fans, and he let us sit there for the whole game even though we only ordered cheesesteaks and drinks - and he kept feeding us them. Although it's nothing special, it's a great local sports bar.

Somethings they do well and somethings they just plain goof up.  i.e. They make a good Turkey Burger.  But if the place is packed, they micro-wave it instead of char-broiling.  Ugh!   Double Ugh!!  At one time, they had terrific Sweet Potato Fries, but then they changed their supplier and now they have what look like something that just came out of the freezer (which might explain why they were lukewarm to cold when they got to our table).  However, if you really want a tasty burger, get the Kobe.   It is
    GOOOD!

Ok sports bar. Normally over crowded and rather clique-ish gatherings there. Theres some better places in town to check out.

Been here once before and I should have listened to my gut that the place is nothing special (at all), but I gave it another chance. Went on a Friday night and the place was dead by 10:00. Sat at the bar, beer selection is horrible but at least they do have Guinness, prices are about average with your normal American crappy macro-brew specials. Crowd was pretty much your normal bar crowd but missing any interesting local suspects, seemed more local yocals out for a couple hours and looking for something as close as possible to home. Tried to play some NTN which was the main reason for the 2nd try but out of 20 TVs in the place it could only be played on two which were also the oldest of group. All in all not a pleasant experience, made worse by the oblivious staff going in and out of the back door letting in the 20 degree air and freezing everyone sober at the bar.

Not worth the stop, go the extra mile to South Bethlehem and try Mollys or something else on 3rd or 4th St.

Starter's is a typical sports bar, with not-so-typical prices. The food is mediocre, but their staples are good. The couple of times I've tried to order something other than a sandwich or burger, I've been disappointed. I recently paid $7 for a small cup of beef stew, which would've been great if it were still hot and wasn't mostly comprised of carrots. The lobster bisque just tastes like flour and milk, with a hint of imitation crabmeat. If you're going to visit Starter's, get a burger! If you like your burger medium-rare, order it as medium. They are usual cooked below what you order. Make sure you go at a busy hour, too, so your food has a chance of being hot. It's a great place to go for a beer and burger!
