One of my favorite bars in Boston! It's pretty swank and classy, the cocktails are great and the DJ is always good.
I wish the place was bigger though because it always feels so congested in their.
My advice would be to get there early. This place has super long lines and sometimes it gets so packed that they only allow hotel guests in past a certain time.
I'll start off by saying I don't enjoy spending $10+ for a mixed drink nor do I enjoy $6 Corona bottles. Â However when I went to Alibi I didn't hate it. Â
I got here early and from what I hear a line forms very fast around 10pm. Â Even though it was packed the bartenders were quick to get you a drink and it was a great atmosphere. Â Inside can be a little tight but they offer a pretty large patio with an outside bar. Â The one thing keeping this place from a 5 star review in my opinion is the lack of beer selection on the outside. Â I understand there's a lack of space but I'd prefer a bigger selection than the $5 bud light and $6 Corona. Â If I'm paying $6 for a beer, at least give me a Sam or Harpoon. Â
One other negative is the bathrooms are in the hotel lobby. Â But no big deal, you get a bathroom card when you leave and don't wait in line afterwards. Â
But very relaxing, great atmosphere, great spot for a nice night and a lot of fun. Â I didn't try the food but I was told the steak skewer was good. Â I'd probably have to open a new credit card in order to bring a date here but that's fine.
I love Alibi!
I recently stayed at The Liberty Hotel, so friends met me for pre-dinner Saturday cocktails at this little speakeasy/club/bar. I love the theme of Alibi...they fully embraced the prison-esque history of the space (complete with the authentic barred windows and cell doors) and blended it perfectly with the modern by including mug shots of celebrities...so fun!
The cocktails are expensive (between $12 - $14), but they are very tasty!
I understand Alibi becomes as club at night, and I'm a little beyond that kind of scene, but for a nice 6pm cocktail, it was perfect!
Alibi is one of those places I don't know why more guys don't frequent. There were SO many groups of cute girls there. And like, no guys. Well, there was one in an AFFLICTION T-SHIRT.BARF. And of course, old hotel guests (myself included?)
Our server had so many tables but she juggled them like a champ and checked in with us often. She was super fun and nice and deserves a medal.
For a place like this, I would:
Drink: One of their signature cocktails, which are strong and very good. I had one with watermelon. Not too sweet.
Eat: We didn't eat here but I think they share a kitchen with either Scampo or Clink, both of which have decent food.
Wear: Short, tight dresses with a peplum. That seemed to be the outfit du jour.
Go with: Your best wingmen, dudes. This place is teeming with girls looking around hoping to get hit on.
Great bar at the Liberty Hotel...the place looks like a prison, dark , brick walls...and posters of celebrities and why they went to jail...great concept!
The drinks are unique, Â each with a particular name following the theme.
We arrived a bit early and the place wasn't too full, but as the night progressed, it soon got pretty packed and the DJ...well...he was playing some of the best tunes I've heard in awhile. It was a shame not that many people felt like dancing...but my friends and I were...ah..we didn't care...we were tourists ;)
I give it 1 star only because of the cool decor of the old jail cell and posters and patio looked pretty nice but thats it! Worst experience, place ever. You like snotty nosed, douchebags this is your place, sorry not for me.
Came on a weekday after work with a friend, game happened to be on (yes i know its not a sports bar!) But i clapped for our team and i thought i was in a library. Anyways we sat at the bar and that day they were having some sort of speed dating event (i was not involved), my friend joined for a bit. I sat at bar watched the game, and apparently must have turned into casper the ghost because the bartender never came over to me; 20 minutes later when my male friend came back, she rushed right over (still ignoring me) and he asked for beers. Since they didnt know how to make a few drinks we asked for or didnt have basic items in stock. Everyone in there was so uptight, the prices so high, and the absolute RUDEST bartender. I couldn't take her non friendly, unprofessionalism anymore, my friend and I left for across the street to cheaper better atmosphere. She should be fired! And the clientele should get sticks outta their behinds! Nice hotel but dont waste your money going here!
Awesome decor, but definitely a lounge, not the cool cocktail spot I was hoping for.
I am absolutely in love with The Liberty Hotel and would give it six stars if I could, so after touring the grounds, I was excited for the prohibition-style cocktails I assumed I would get at Alibi. Well, the surroundings were as beautiful as the rest of the hotel, but I was really disappointed that instead of having a cocktail lovingly prepared by a mixologist, the young woman in the tight black dress behind the bar quickly threw together a $13 martini like she was making a rum and Coke. It seems as though the owners are going for flash and turnover rather than quality.
(I will say that the bathrooms were spectacular!)
I really hope I was there on a bad night because I really, really want this place to succeed!
Wow, as far as ultra lounges go, this place is the sexiest, grittiest places I've ever been to. It's a jail-themed bar located within the Liberty Hotel but It **feels** like Vegas when you see the leather couches for bottle service lining the walls, and the sexiest women i've seen in Boston all congregated around the hightop tables. It's dark, ambient, and the air is filled with the scent of women's perfume. Not a bad combination.
This place isn't cheap by any means...drinks start off around $15 and will run higher depending on what you order. The DJ was spinning some awesome tunes and the outdoor patio was open, although being in Boston, you're subject to hot, humid nights. It wasn't THAT bad the night I went.
Definitely a "must-go" place when in Boston!
We went here for drinks on one of the final nights of our trip. We wish we had found it sooner. Â They have a great outdoor patio and when we went were having a free drink sample of a new tequila. So free drinks never hurts.
Overall the staff were quite friendly and the drinks were all well made. We also had the tempura green beans and were amazed by how many you get but also how great they tasted.
The crowd here tends to be people in their 20s and 30s so something to keep in mind while visiting.
This is definitely a creative, interesting concept. Located in a hotel that used to be a jail, this bar takes its concept from that theme. The bar is dim, with doors and windows made to look like jail bars. The walls are lined with mugshots of infamous celebrities, their alleged crime and their alibi.
The drinks are also pretty good. I ordered the Single White Female, which is peach vodka, white grape juice, peychaud bitters and prosecco. It was sweet but not too sweet. Strong but not too strong. A bit on the pricier end, especially for Boston, but worth the experience.
I loved every aspect of this bar lodged in the  "drunk tank" of what was the Charles Street Jail.  Alibi is a hot spot for locals and tourists alike to sip cocktails while enjoying late night snacking amongst a good crowd.  The brick cell walls set are adorned with cheeky images of celebrity mugshots - aka, their "alibis," This hip spot also has an outdoor patio to enjoy drinks and catch some fresh air.
Review Source:I've been a frequent patron of Alibi since they first opened several years ago, so I thought it was time to give my two cents.
I have celebrated a few special occasions here: 3 birthdays, and 1 Halloween party (upstairs was sold out..I have moments of procrastination).
I have enjoyed everyone of my birthdays that I've celebrated here. Â I'm in my mid 30's, which means my evening doesn't start at 11pm. Â You can reserve a table prior to 10pm for free, which is great for us old folks who want to start at 8pm. Â The best part is, if their reserved party is a no-show then you get to keep the table (hooray!). Â That has happened on all 3 of my birthdays spent here.
The food is great, they have it sent right over from Scampo. Â The girls who wait on you are friendly, and accommodating. Â I've never come across any egos or attitude. Â The manager will even come over and check in to see how your table is.
Now on a regular non-celebratory night, I must say I do prefer Fridays over Saturdays. Â I feel as though Fridays bring in a better crowd and it's not too crowded (the place is pretty narrow). Â Saturdays you are more likely to find the 22 year old wannabe socialites with their fake Chanel's and their evil glares trying to snatch a financial dude, or better yet a Dr.! Â But anywho, they need a place hang out at too I guess.
The music is a good mix of today and 90's hip-hop. Â I love me some Bell Biv Devoe.
In the summer, the patio is great! Â Super comfy couches in a great space make for a delightful evening outdoors.
Alibi is consistent, serves good food and drinks, and the staff is friendly. Â So all haters can just move to the left.
I really enjoyed my experience here. Â The atmosphere is extremely unique with the jail bars and celebrity mug shots. Â The drinks were wonderful, but the food was surprisingly delicious for such a small lounge! Â I had the truffle fries and the olive oil pasta and both were amazingly good!
Review Source:Alibi is a fun, chill bar in the Liberty Hotel that goes right along with the prison concept. The bar feels very swank, dark, and edgy (especially with the prison windows!). I went to Alibi for a birthday party, and it was a great location. There was tons of space in the back for a sizeable group of people to sit, stand, and mingle with each other. I had a blueberry-based drink thats quite tasty. I would say that service was a little on the slow side, considering we had made a reservation for our group.
However, their website is not currently working which I find quite frustrating. I enjoy being able to look through a restaurant's website to get an idea of what types of cocktails and appetizers are offered. Also, I find that websites are helpful for understanding what type of atmosphere a club offers.
I love this place, but I hate how it's already packed and at "full capacity" by 10:30pm, although the place really isn't even that crowded during that time. It's a smaller space, but has a full bar and it's nice having the option to dance if you wanted to. The music has always been appealing to me (mostly top 40s and hip hop). The crowd is young and dressy, and the drinks are a bit pricier but are still tasty.
The free coat check in the winter is great, and the heated cab stand outside is a nice touch (that makes you actually want to go out in the winter)! Fun and lively on friday and saturday nights! I would recommend coming here at least once while you are in Boston.
I've been here a few times. I love the vibe here and the atmosphere. The name is very fitting. The metal bars coming down the windows and the loungy chairs are great. The further back you go, the more dirty the chairs were and so, i hesitate on sitting on them.
The bar staff are pretty friendly. The drinks are pretty good too and the garnishes are fresh. Space wise, it's not very big but it looks and feels cozy.
I was here the first time they opened, like 5 or 6 years ago and it was better then. I'll say it. I was disappointed with the drink selections, I know these guys know how to make a good cocktail but honestly, there wasn't much on the menu I wanted to try - so i stuck with the sangria. Lydia Shire does not disappoint with the food quality though. That was very delicious. The staff was super friendly, our waitress was the most attentive but not intrusive type that you want at a place like this. I'd visit again since the atmosphere is fun, but I wouldn't rush back. It is pricey but what do you expect.
Review Source:I went here last Saturday and started out upstairs at the main bar. I was with a very large group (about 30 people) so we had a hard time getting into Alibi and had to go in sections. Once we got in it was fantastic though.
Yes, it is insanely crowded. Yes, you are going to sweat. And yes, it is reaThe DJ was awesome though playing all my favorite songs to the point that I never stopped moving. Staff randomly came around dropping free shots on the tables and the bartenders were friendly despite the massive crowds.
Security comes through regularly with flash lights trying to keep the walkways clear but they're respectful about it and very reasonable.
So much fun.
I love this place and it's my favorite hotel bar in Boston. Â The setting is pretty cool because of the whole "prison" motive and the drinks are fun and inventive. Â Be aware that this is in a hotel so you will see drinks in the $12-$14 range. Â They have cocktail waitresses who can be a hit or miss and the bartenders are ok. Â It's a mixed crowd and felt comfortable with my age range (late 20's/early 30's). Â
There is limited room inside so during the summer time, I love the outside bar area. Â They have bottle service for those bachelor/ette parties. Â Definitely get there early as it can be packed up pretty quickly.
I loved Alibi. We were able to get a table by the DJ and just chill out all night. And by chill out, I mean dance while attempting to still look as classy as possible.
It's a nice option if you don't want to go to a Boylston type bar, but you don't want to go to a club-ish place either. The music is good, drinks are good - and in the summer you can hang out outside. The cab stand out front is a nice plus as well.
Such a great bar, a great space, great atmosphere and drinks!
I work in the neighborhood, and this has become my favorite 'happy hour' bar.
Yes, I know we dont have happy hour, per say, in MA - but I have never been in the bar past 10 pm, and see it a lot as an after work bar.
The space itself is great. It used to be the 'drunk tank' when The Liberty Hotel was still a prison. Great brick walls, high ceilings, and iron bars show off its former life... and ad an oddly warm and comfortable environment.
The walls are also decorated with lot of mugshots of celebrities, etc. Its pretty cool!
It is not an overly large place (in nice weather, there is an outside balcony), but good for singles, couples, and small groups.
if you can, go to the back corner, there is a nice small section for two people. great if you are on a date. Plus, it has super high chairs that seem like thrones! 9and are comfortable). Just a great place to relax and enjoy a drink or two.
I have not tried any on their 'specialty' drinks, but they make a great grey goose dirty martini - and offer olives stuffed with blue cheese instead of pimentos - a bonus in my book!
The service has ALWAYS been top notch, and the cliental normally matches.
If you want a nice, upper scale place to go out for drinks post work, or even later at night - it is definitely worth a check. Prices are in line with other Boston area bars of this nature, and the environment makes it 100% worth it!
(and if you drink to much, you have a hotel to stay in right there, and the MGH redline is right out the door!)
This is a fun bar to hang out pretty much any night of the week. Only downfall is the drinks are expensive and don't really taste great. If you can get over the bad drinks, you'll have yourself a great time. A lot of people seem to come here after they get off work from Mass General based on the amount of people I see coming in scrubs.
Review Source:Great Night in the Slammer!
Alibi is a cool spot in the Liberty Hotel. Â The drinks were strong, service was good, and the pizza was actually pretty delicious.
The only down side is that it's pretty small inside, and can be difficult to get a table because almost all of them are reserved for later in the evening. Â We managed to find one with 2 seats and snag a 3rd. Â I would not recommend this place for a group larger than 4 unless the outside patio is open or you plan to reserve a table.
OK so the ambiance is very cool. It's an old converted jail and they have outdoor lounge that is just fantastic on warm summer nights. And (if you want to pay) the drinks are good.
BUT it is expensive.12-14 dollars a drink. I'll pass. Also it was a Monday night (not even that busy) and the waitress forgot about us several times, never coming to check on us and when we did finally manage to get her attention she forgot would forget to bring out orders. We had to reminder her TWICE that my friend had ordered a Guinness. It was so bad we had to convince him to leave some kind of tip.
A lounge that has no cover, plenty of non-reservation-needed seating (including tables), waiter service AT the table, and delicious $12 drinks? Sold!
Yes, $12 is more than the usual pocket change, but keep in mind that (A) there's no cover, (B) you're in Boston, (C) you get a private table FO FREE, and (D) you don't even have to move your ass out of that seat to keep the drinks coming.
Seriously, what more can you ask for??
Okay in my books.  I was in town with international colleagues.first the bouncers to the building  were giving us trouble because they did not carry their passports around and they did not want to check other IDs.
Drinks were decently strong. Â Crowd seems okay--it's not a good mix (hey I'm cosmopolitan).
What really floored me with the negativity is that they have a limit on the people in the outside area. Â I've only heard of that for indoors, so it's a bit ridiculous. Â Finally, I was making a call and they were pretty rude about me staying inbounds inside that courtyard.
Went there for drinks with friends on a Monday, so was not part of the meat market douchebaggery scene this place is known for.
What a disaster of a place! This place is overhyped and way overpriced.
Only reason this place gets 2 stars is purely because of the bartender.
#1 advice, if you have to go there - skip the food! McDonalds will serve you a better burger. Fries were freaking cold and they forgot the avocado. Burger meat was dry like Sahara sand. Kebabs were rubery.
The kitchen staff has to be the laziest and dumbest in whole Northeast! Lean Cuisine out of microwave tastes better than crap they put out.
I attended a early week conference in town and was looking for a late evening casual place to relax and have some cocktails with coworkers. Â While Boston is a great city with charm, it doesn't have many late evening options on a Tuesday.
Locals suggested the Alibi Bar at the Liberty Hotel. Â So we went. Â It wasn't packed but was busy with energetic patrons, had a great ambiance, served generous drinks, and last call was at 1:30 (much better than 10 at most places around this city).
The fact that it was a real jail at one time with many of the original jail cell bars as a decor was cool. Â And you can't beat the celebrity mugshots on the walls for a conversation piece with your companions and a ice breaker with stranger patrons googling at them.
I would give this place a 5-star for their decor, but not so much for their service. Alibi Bar is located on the ground floor of the Liberty Hotel, which is historic and well known for being a prison once upon the time. We were greeted by a jaded, grumpy manager when us girls came into the bar. You would think he would be a little nicer to us cute girls, umm no!
It's interesting when a waitress doesn't know the menu very well. When I asked for her recommendations, she gave me the generic answer of "All of em' are pretty good", which is not helpful at all. If the staff isn't excited over their own restaurant and menu, how can they expect me to be?!
In the end, I ordered their 'Cold Hand Cuke'-vodka, muddled cucumber & mint, and pineapple. Their drinks were strong ($13 on average) and standard. It wasn't too sweet, which I liked...like I wrote earlier, the drink is standard, but nothing out of the ordinary. We also ordered a magherita pizza, which was also just A-OK since the crust overwhelmed half the pizza...it reminded me of a frozen pizza at home, but not as bad. It is one par above, sad huh? PS, our pizza came out 10x faster than our drinks.
Alibi has a nice outdoor patio area for drinks, but the inside seating is where you get the feel for what you really came here for...brown stones and bars!
Overall, the service was horrible, the drinks were okay, and the decor was fantastic! Can anyone say new management please?
First of all, the Liberty Hotel is VERY cool....an old jail?? Who wouldn't want to check that out!?!?!
We couldn't decide which bar to visit, and finally settled on Alibi (the one on the ground floor). Â I liked the decor (mug shots) and the atmosphere was very cool. Â The bar is a bit more dimly lit, while the restaurant portion is a bit brighter. Â I think the entire spot should be darker (it was a jail after all...).
This spot is a bit pricey. Â I think that the hotel should have at least one of the bars having a more casual, less expensive atmosphere, but hey, it is Boston and it was fun.
My only complaint is that the bartenders seemed a bit standoffish...I was turned off by them as their attitude was more like they were WAY cooler than us, and therefore, wanted to ignore us. Â We were basically the only people at the bar, so I am not sure why we had to ask for help...
A good spot, but not my favorite bar in the city.
I went here with some friends from NYC and was very upset. Â Why? Â The bouncer would not let us in here since we were not on the guest list nor purchased bottle service. Â He informed us that EVERYONE in the bar was one or the other. Â Now, I was a little bit surprised since I have come here several times and have never been turned down. Â
While my friends and I waited outside I asked a few guys how they got in and if they were on the wait list?
Me: "How do you get on the guest list?"
White Guy:" Honey, Â there is no guest list. Â You just sweet talk your way in and you're alot prettier than me!"
Me: "What about bottle service? Did you purchase a table?"
White Guy: "No. Â You don't need that?! You just walk in like you own the place"
This exchange made me very flushed since I felt that my friends (3 asian people) were not being let in due to our skin color. Â I cited this to the bouncer who re-iterated that he was "not racist, everyone there was on a guest list and purchased bottle service" Â
The manager then came over and apologized, let us in and told us that the bar was very diverse or as diverse as it could be in Beacon Hill. Â We went in and found that we were one of 6 other Asian people. Â I found this odd when a group after us was not admitted to this bar and oddly they were Asian. Â The group afterwards and I drank my cocktail by the entrance and counted the hordes of white people that were granted entry. Â I don't think that this is a coincidence.
My favorite bar in Boston so far.
THE BAR ITSELF:
***The inside is sexy. The lights are dim, and the theme is cool (even the music sometimes sticks with the theme; I heard "Criminal" by Fiona Apple last time I was there).
***The outside is awesome as well. The couches are very romantic especially on a breezy summer night.
THE STAFF:
***The cocktail waitresses are very attentive and sweet (and GORGEOUS; my date has trouble keeping his eyes off of them, the bastard). They treat everyone the same, whether you're a celebrity or a college kid paying with crumpled-up ones and quarters (*ahem*).
***The bartenders are also very good. One in particular -- a young guy, he told me his name once but I forget -- is always friendly and recognized me by my second visit. Even when I can't get my date to go out with me and I'm stuck going out by myself, I feel very comfortable just sitting down at the bar, ordering a beer, and chatting him up.
THE DRINKS:
**I've noticed people complaining about the strength of the drinks; I personally love a drink that'll kick my ass, and I've never had a complaint about the drinks here. The specialty cocktails are creative (I love the #4, their version of a Dark & Stormy with pink peppercorn syrup; this does, however, run me $12 a pop). I usually get a big frosty Harpoon IPA for $5. Bud Light (bottle) is $4. You can do Alibi on a budget, or you can splurge (they also have some FAAANCY-PANTS champagne and whatnot if you REALLY wanna go all-out).
THE CROWD:
***Upscale, late-twenties through mid-thirties, I'd say. Swanky to the max. But, even as a broke-ass twenty-one-year-old looking to get her drink on, I've never felt out of place or unwelcome... Of course, I always make sure I'm wearing reasonable shoes, just in case.
***You WILL see people making out in here. Yeah, it's weird, but like I said, it's SEXY. I hate that kind of thing, but I can't really even blame them. If you're sitting inside with a date, on a corner couch without a lot of people around, sipping on your cocktails for a little while, you're gonna get horny. End of story.
BONUS!!!
***Clink is right upstairs, and that's a great place as well. You can grab a drink at Alibi, then one at Clink when you get bored or if your eyes have trouble adjusting to the lighting.
Basically, this place will make you feel like a million bucks. Put on a nice pair of shoes, grab a gorgeous date, settle into a corner, slurp on some drinkables, and please, remember to use a rubber.
Apart from the usual clientele, I find it hard to fault Alibi. It could be gimmicky, it could be up-it's-own-arse, it could be ridiculously over-hyped and overpriced but it really isn't. Instead it's the poster-boy for upmarket bars - great waitstaff, always a buzz going on and that feeling of being somewhere cool and unique.
I think it's officially time to call the Liberty Hotel a massive success. You're lying if you said you weren't impressed when you first walked in and looked up at the old prison roof from inside. You're sterile if you didn't get a kick out of the celebrity mugshots adorning Alibi's walls and menus. And you're blind if it never occurred to you that the walls, bars and marks on the floor were all real and from the prison days - showing you just how small a room a confined man gets to share.
I've been trying to get my Alibi fix on Sundays, away from the Thurs to Sat "scene and be seen" crowd - but increasingly the lines are forming every night. ESPN's Bill Simmons just called this THE bar to go to in Boston and noted that people line-up outside now just to get into the bar upstairs from Alibi, in the vague hope that they can somehow fall through the floor to be in the place to be in.
After an immensely satisfying dinner at Petit Robert on Columbus, Daniel S. and I hopped into a cab and waltzed into Alibi (after a quick glance at the hotel - VERY nice, but parts are too art deco for me).
The place was all but empty (at 9ish on a warm Tuesday), so we grabbed some seats and waited for someone to give us more booze (we wanted to keep that dinner wine buzz going - well at least I did) Nothing. Hmm... five minutes later... nothing. Five more minutes... boo. Finally, I got up and went to the bar and found the waitresses all huddled and chatty. I gave them my order, pointed our table out and the drinks arrived shortly after.
Drinks - good. My chocolate martini was well done. Not too heavy on the vodka but it still packed a punch. I think I liked my French 75. All I remember is Daniel's drinking half of it.
Company - excellent (and even better with Jeffrey H. showed up!). i liked that there were only a few of us there. It lived up to its lounge feel nicely.
Service - good (after ordering a French 75, i was handed something that looked like blood and we were like - ummm...no. but it was fixed quickly)
Decor - interesting. A little kitch, but it worked. We sat under James Morrison and Michael Jagger's mug shots. I love how they incorporated the actual alibis into the drink menu (ie - Morrison's Mojo Rising). I liked the brick work and the bars added to the subterranean feel (even though there was a patio outside).
I can def see my self back here on a weekday (don't know if I can handle the weekend crowd...). Beware though- after 3 chocolate martini's, a French 75 and two of whatever Daniel was drinking, I drunkenly made my mark on a receipt for a $90 tab... Wait, that actually makes sense. Never mind. Price is Beacon Hill normal.
I totes partied with Lindsay Lohan here. Well not so much Lindsay Lohan as it was a picture of her hangin' on the wall.
One of my new favorite spots for drinks - Alibi Bar & Lounge is located on the ground level of the brand spankin' new Liberty Hotel, which is absolutely gorge btw.
I joined Yelpers Daniel and Deepa for some cocktails in this prison themed bar - stone walls, jail bars, and mugshots of some of the world's greatest criminals on the wall - and by greatest criminals, I mean arrested teenage icons who are plastered all over OK! Magazine.
The drinks were delicious - I enjoyed a chocolate martini that I absolutely loved. Not only did it taste great, but it was strong too, and that my friends is how to serve a good drink.
The service was friendly, although there was a slight mix-up at the bar with Deepa's drink - the waitress admitted to the mistake and corrected it - very professional. When we left, there was zero effort in finding a cab as the hotel doormen will gladly do it for you.
The crowd here is mixed, from young professionals to middle aged travelers and businessmen. You may spot a cougar or 7 so if you're a straight man, be prepared to hide that wedding ring or draft up your financials if you're looking for romance.
There is a variety of seating, from the bar to couches, chairs to tables. Unfortunately, I was the awk 6'2" gentleman who got stuck with a rickety, low to the ground cube stool and spent most of the time trying to balance my thunder-thighs and avoid crashing into the floor.
Will I be back? Oh hellz yes. But I'm gettin' the couch - even if that means I have to hit on a cougar and show her my 401K!
fuck this place. Â I will never go back and will continue to shit talk about this place until i die. Â
For my birthday, my friends and I reserved enough tables for 30 people. Â When we arrived at alibi that night the dumb ass at the door told me we were over capacity and that the fire marshall was there. Â He brushed us off and told us to go upstairs.
why were they over capacity if we had a reservation? Â Does having a reservation mean nothing to them, apparently so. Â The jokers managing this spot aren't going to make it very far if they can't keep they're word.
I feel like I needed to write a response to all the people complaining about the line:
Should you have made it inside, you would see how truly small the place actually is. Â On top of that, people love going here, Bostonians and out of towners alike.
Small venue + big interest = long line. Â
If you aren't in by 10, leave. Â Go somewhere else. Â The place isn't going to suddenly increase in size over the course of an hour. Â Do you see anyone leaving? Â No. Â Then there is no more room. Â Once a venue reaches capacity, it is required by law to stop admitting people in. Â This is for EVERYONE'S safety. Â If people are not coming out and the line is not moving, the bar has probably hit capacity and you are not getting in. Â
See those people getting in ahead of you? Â They made reservations. Â That guy who flashed a badge? Â He is the manager's best friend, obviously he will not be waiting in line. Â Douche bag bouncer? Â Sorry, he is just doing his job. Â Do you want $12.00 an hour to listen to people whine about not getting into an already packed bar? Â If he lets you in, he will more than likely be fired for going over capacity. Â If the Fire Marshall stops by and decides the place is too crowded, he has the power to shut the place down. Â The bouncer looks like GQ model? Â Hmm.. maybe you should call the owner and suggest casual fridays? Â Those damn bouncers, always dressing up for work (at a swanky bar, nonetheless) !!
Try going back earlier, for dessert drinks or to check the place out before you head elsewhere.  This time, make reservations.  Once inside, not only will you notice the cute decor, attractive bartenders, and fabulous drinks, but you will also see how small the place is.  If you want them to go over capacity  so you can get in (after you showed up too late), then be prepared to be sitting on top of people.  And have fun getting crushed in a stampede when the fire alarms go off and there are too many people charging the exits.
Honestly ---- Â great place. Â Make reservations or show up early. Â Don't knock a place because they didn't break fire codes trying to squeeze your ass in.
If you are still experiencing problems, try summertime, when the patio opens and almost doubles their capacity.
I'm guessing most of you, Bostonites, have already heard about the recent renovation of the Charles Street jail and the Liberty Hotel. What you haven't heard is that it has an amazing lounge on the first floor. Cleverly named Alibi, the space was part of the old cell block with some of the original walls, cell bars and flooring still there. The decoration is nice and simple: you don't need much when you have amazing brick walls, with mugshots of famous people hanging everywhere (my favorite is Devine Brown...google it up!). I asked for a Gin&Tonic and got Gin with a splash of Tonic...can't beat that! It's newly opened, so they seem to be fine tuning their drink menu. Go! Check it out!
