We got to chat with Tom, the chef who turns out the food at Bull McCabe's.  He informed us that the secret to their nachos is that they buy real corn tortillas, cut them into triangles, and deep fry them - those are their chips.  The cheese is all real, and melted over the chips in a convection oven, and they cook the chicken, steak or veg to order for that plate of nachos.  Seriously - these things win.

When I asked if "Forklift Nachos" had become a thing, he smiled, and said "yeah, a few people have ordered 'em."

I love Bull McCabes. It's right around the corner and definitely a go-to spot when I want drinks and excellent comfort food in a cozy location. The bartenders and servers are also seriously accommodating and friendly. I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered there, but some highlights are the nachos, the poutine (not super traditional Montreal style, but very good), the steak tips (alone or on a salad), the po boy (the bread is amazing), and the cheese plate (well put together and could feed 4-6 people -- it comes with almost an entire baguette). It's the kind of place where you can take your parents for a nice dinner or sit alone at the bar and order cheap beer.

However, someone else mentioned this as well, but sometimes I wish that they didn't have music EVERY night. This is actually a testament to how awesome their food, service, and ambiance is -- but sometimes I just want to sit in this bar and enjoy the atmosphere without (sometimes very loud) live music. I appreciate what they do, and I'm glad they host local acts, but in an ideal world Bull's would have a bigger space with a dedicated stage area, separate from the bar/dining. Just my opinion.

I like Bull McCabe's for it's music, laid-back vibe and the clientele it attracts. You know when you go to a place that you want to really love, but it's a Tufts magnet? Burren, I'm looking at you! Bull McCabe's attracts a fun-loving, yet laid-back crowd. Nestled in the somewhat secluded Union Sq (no T, keeps out the riff raft) Bull McCabes often has live music (reggae, Irish Celtic, singer-songwriter) for a cheap cover (usually $5). The service is friendly and everyone is always happy!

This is the perfect local bar, it's too bad I don't live closer. Awesome beer selection and nachos, good Friday night band. There was a five dollar cover charge for the live music but was well worth it. Bartenders and wait staff are awesome.

Bull McCabe's is probably the most comfortable I've ever felt sitting in a bar.  I'm not a huge bar-goer, but when I do go I like to feel at home.  At Bull McCabe's, they had awesome food, probably the best selection of both draft and bottled beers I've ever seen, and a bunch of plasma screens so I was able to watch whatever game I wanted to.

At night, they always have the best local bands performing at McCabe's.  It's actually shocking how talented these bands are considering the size on the bar.  Definitely worth staying late to see these talented artists play their entire set!

Brian, the owner, is extremely hospitable, charitable, always there to make sure your glass is never empty, and an over all great guy.  He is a genuine person who loves what he does, and it shows when you walk into his bar.

I wish you all the success in the world!  You know how to treat your customers, and because of that, nice guys WILL finish first!

Oh yea... best burger I've ever had, anywhere.  And that includes this crap place I ate at in Philly that was featured on "Best Thing I Ever Ate" on the Food Network.  They said this place made the best burger on the planet.  WRONG!  Tried that, went to McCabes a week later and for almost half the cost, I was a lot more satisfied.

I never give any one five stars. Hell, I wouldn't even give a hot girlfriend with a billion bucks in the bank five stars let alone a pub. But this isn't just a pub. You get greeted. There's a small kitchen with good food and always someone nice behind the bar. The Guinness pours, mm. Gawd, if Julia Child was still alive, she wouldn't come for the Guinness, she'd come for the food! Sports. Music. Food. Beer. Babes. Bubs. I love coming to this pub.

I have gotten so sloppy here and they still love me.  Which is really nice.  I also bury my face in nachos and whiskey here which is basically my favorite thing ever.

    Seriously good nachos.

Plenty of bros and dudes and their gentler and less gentle hangers-on.

Music (or not). Maybe a cover (or not).

Sometimes I maybe end up drunk here when I don't remember where I wound up (definitely drunk though).

Tiny little bar but they always make room for me to shimmy.

I feel the need to bookend this review, so.

    Seriously good nachos.

Ummm wow.  It is absolutely a mind bender that there isn't a line from Bull's to Peabody on Friday night.

First the food is awesome, fresh and huge portions.  Priced appropriately.

The beer selection is great.  The staff is super nice.

Um. Jess Tardy...wow.  How are you so wonderful?  I wanted to cry you guys were so good.

There is no place in the world that combines the vibe, food, drink, people and music like this bar.  I'm frankly embarrassed I haven't been before.

    THANK YOU!

I'm not in the habit of reviewing places after only one visit, but I can't get Bull McCabe's nachos off my mind. Probably because I'm still wearing them on my ass.

Order nachos. Do it. They are quite possibly the best nachos I've ever had, and I have eaten a lot of nachos in my time. Being considerably more delicate in constitution than my compatriots, I ordered only chicken on my nachos as opposed to Jables' Forklift Nachos. The lack of additional meats made for a no less orgasmically delicious experience. The nachos are also huge, and made a satisfying dinner for two people with others snagging the occasional chip. Oh! And, we RAN OUT OF CHIPS BEFORE RUNNING OUT OF TOPPINGS. This didn't stop me from finishing the melty cheese goodness on my plate, because I am a lady.

For a hole in the wall, Bull McCabe's draft beer selection is phenomenal. Between Slumbrew and Pretty Things, local brewers were well represented.

I was expecting the interior of Bull's to be a shithole, but it actually has a charming Irish cottage feel. The live music was good and did not prohibit conversation. Staff was friendly, and we were almost never waiting for a fresh drink.

If the MBTA ever got its act together and put a stop in Union Square, Bull McCabe's would become a much more regular destination, fo' sho'.

My new goal in life is to journey to Asia, get lost while backpacking in the mountains (preferably flung off a mountain while saving someone), and while separated from the tour group I was with stumble on a cave with a magic lamp that has a genie in it so I can ask to become the great god Ganesha so I can give this place 10 thumbs up.  That's how much I love Bull McCabe's, I'm willing to climb a mother effin' mountain.

How does one explain Bull McCabes? It's got the feel of an unpretentious bar that for all intents and purposes is too cool for you (but they still let you in anyway), but maintains the atmosphere and size of a bar that you can happily call your own. The bartender is cooler than you'll ever be--Hell, so is the doorman--but they're incredibly friendly. Some might argue that it's in Union which is the most remote place in the entire world, but I argue it means it's not plagued by the scene kids, hipsters, and d-bags that you tend to run into at Central, Harvard, or Davis Squares. Plus, there are tons of buses from the T stops which go right by this place. So get your ass here for a drink and be cool honey bunny.

Decor? Yeah, they have that. This Irish Pub is incredibly intimate with shelves full of books and pictures on the wall, so I'm pretty sure the ambiance alone adds 10 points to your IQ--or at least your perceived IQ (but that's all that matters, right?).

I have to make a special mention of Jess Tardy Band.  They play pretty much every Friday, but to be sure you should check the Bull McCabe's website. Jess' music is a mix of soul, blues, and R&B which is so potent it will simply melt your pants off, so remember to bring a backup pair or maybe some leaded pants (if you think that will save you).  I have to say, hands down, the sexiest music night in Boston is at Bull McCabes with the Jess Tardy Band.  By the end of their set the entire room has become putty.  I was so hot I nearly made love to Jason's Forklift Nachos, had they not already been consumed and the plate licked clean.

I will admit that I don't love hiking all the way out to Union.  But thanks to Bull McCabe's winning over mine and my friend's affection, it will take very little convincing for me to take the trip.

There is no better way to describe the place than the following interaction which happened directly after I ate dinner:
Jason B: Yo. Amy B's nachos look delicious.  Want nachos?
Nicole V: I will definitely order nachos. I'm sure people will help out since I'm not that hungry.
    [nachos ordered]
Bartender: Just plain or do you want something on them? Chicken, chili, steak...
    Jason B: Yes
    Bartender: What?
Jason B: I'd like that. Fully loaded.
    Bartender: All of them?
Jason B: Yes. Isn't that what you were saying? Am I only supposed to order one?
Bartender: Typically, yes.  But I can put them all on and you can have some $20 nachos.
Jason B [to me]: Should we?
Nicole V: [lots of giggling- shocker] Sure
Jason B [loudly]: What the hell? Let's do it. All the toppings.

Bartender proceeds to crack up, tell the kitchen, and come out to deliver "fork lift nachos".  And you can bet your sweet self that they were the best damn nachos any of us had.  I ate way more than I should have of this should-be-an-entree-for-two appetizer.  You could have inspected these nachos all you wanted and found nothing wrong.  Meat and cheese were still plentiful well into the layers of nachos, the chips stayed crispy throughout, and the toppings were so generous that we often grabbed a chunk of chicken thinking we were grabbing a chip.  Amused bartender came out to see how we were doing and through [not much] provoking tried them as well.  I really hope that the birth of "Jables forklift nachos" was as memorable for them as it was for us.

Besides the birth of JFN, Bull McCabe's had other great things going for it.  The live music was great.  Live music in tiny spaces often intimidates me because one of my most prominent "I'm not in college anymore" traits is that I want to be able to talk to my friends in a bar.  Bull McCabe's managed this incredibly well; the live music only added to the great atmosphere.
The beer selection was surprisingly good as well.  When I walked into this sliver of property outside the central part of union I was not expecting to find my friends drinking Jack D'Or, Fishermans Ale, and Lagunitas IPA.

To round it all out, there's a boob monster drawn on the women's room cork board.  Consider my heart won over by Bull McCabe's.

Bulls is so close to my place there's no reason not to go all the time.  They always have great beers, friendly faces, and something going on.  I sat down to write this as a five star review, then decided that four would be better.  That's not to say there's anything wrong with this place at all and I absolutely recommend this place to any and everyone, however there are a couple of small things that keep it from the star rating I want it to have...

Why does a place this small have to have live entertainment six nights a week?  I'm all about live music - but I'd prefer in a place this small to not have as much and the sort that they have.  This is a much better environment for acoustic or low volume acts rather than the dudes with 2x12s and 4x10s who play here.  Again, don't get me wrong, I have both of those amps, but they're for larger venues.  That being said, the music here is awesome!  It's just a little loud and sometimes.

Brunch.  Apparently they have some sort of brunch but when I came in a couple of months ago to soak up my hangover I was greeted with the dinner menu and wound up with a burger that was sub-par at best.

Now, the food is actually VERY good, but the items mentioned above didn't quite blow my balls back, if you will.  Definitely get the Po' Boy Du Jour and the fried zucchini fingers.

Overall Bulls is a great place to go and get a few beers, watch a game, and hang out.   I'd just recommend getting in and out before 10pm when the music starts.  I've never been down there for trivia but I bet it's a good time, it's a real good set up for it.  Go down here if you haven't, the bartenders are great, the food does the job, and the beers, man.  The beers.

I love this place!  I think of it as my neighborhood bar even though I don't live in the neighborhood. I don't love live music so I try to go during the week. It's always laid back in there, but with excellent service at both the bar and the tables from the bartenders. I've never had anything that wasn't delicious there, but tend to order the fish special of the day. Their postage-stamp sized kitchen turns out amazing things, especially when you realize the chef has no counter space to set anything down on. If you go, take a minute to watch them work.

Because of this small kitchen, the food doesn't come out super fast, but it's perfect timing if you you grab a beer and enjoy it until your food comes out. A real neighborhood place but not in a divey sort of way. Makes you feel at home there.

As a Somervillian local, I've been here on more than a few occasions and had more than a few glorious drinking nights here.  Good Beer, Great music, Cozy Space.  Truth be told I should have written a glowing review a long time ago, but to my fault I got lazy.  Recently though I just gave Bull's dinner a run, and now more than ever this place deserves, as the kids say, "Some Mad Phat props".

(they do still say that still right?)

The steak tip dinner with sauteed veggies really rivals any of my favorite boston area tips.  Many thanks to Brian and the staff for really priding themselves on making a great bar AND great food.  The sweet hot peppers and veggies, and amazingly seasoned mash made me shake my head in disbelief to remember I was eating at a pub.  You really can't ask for more than that.  To really add some icing to this decadant cake?  The taps and drink selection have NEVER left me hanging.
All in all, you can't go wrong with an evening at Bull's.

Pub Excellence !  Bull McCabe's has got it nailed.   A neighborhood pub that excels at  everything it does - food, drinks, entertainment and spirit.  You can't walk into this place without someone saying 'Hello' to you.  The food is locally fresh and presented with style.  I had the crab cakes tonight -  they were incredible! (all crab; no cake) - I call that a bargain - the best I've ever had.  The owner (who is always happy to see you) is usually behind the bar and has just procured the 'catch of the day' or something special from across town - straight into the kitchen where the awesome chef  takes real pride preparing the food that you order.  It seems like the whole crew at Bull McCabe's enjoys doing it "top-notch".   It is hard for me to comment on a place that's got it all together.

    A winner for vegetarians!

We went for trivia on a Monday night (they had football on too!).  I ordered the tempeh buffalo "wings."  Loved 'em.  Still thinking about 'em several weeks later.  Hoping to recreate them at home soon.

I also had the housemade veggie burger.  It was also really good, but I was too full from the wings to make much of a dent.  Luckily, the human vulture was circling, so he had no problem finishing up for me.

Decent selection of craft beers, I think I had Harpoon UFO and it was great!

Service was amazing - there was one woman who had to be the bartender and the server for the whole place.  It is tiny, but still, it was a lot of running back and forth and she killed it.

(We got third place in trivia and the prize was a special shot the bartender thought up.  Awesome!)

Cozy little Irish pub. Always friendly service from the barkeeps, and the food is pretty good with nice portions. A nice local place you can stop in and have a brew and just relax. Live music is a nice plus as well.

Bonus points for the random paperback books you can read at your leisure as well!

I have only recently "discovered" Union Square and I am slowly but surely making my way through various establishments there. I have been several times now to see a good band here,  but have resisted eating there because ... Well, let's face it, who hasn't been burned by pub food.
Boy, was I wrong. We started slowly with the poutine. I know - risky right, a traditional Canadian dish made in beantown adjacent. Wrong! To quote Goldilocks, it was just right --The gravy was thick not runny, spicy not blah; the fries were not soggy; the cheese curd was melty goodness.
Last night, we got the fried clams. Another risk?? Surprisingly, no! The fried goodness on the outside was so crisp BUT it did not dry out the inside.
All this goodness was only on the first page of appetizers - I now need to go back and venture further into the menu!
The Guinness on tap being a plus should go without saying ... but let me say it anyway.

IN A NUTSHELL: Dub Apocalypse, the best Jazz band in all of Boston, and perhaps in all of the USA, plays there every Sunday night @ 10pm. NOTE: They typically start at 10:30pm and play until 1am.

The ultra-high quality of this fantastic Jazz band, coupled with the exceptionally low $5 cover charge, is the main reason to go to Bull McCabe's. I'd rate the band and musical experience 6 stars if I could.

The bar itself is particularly small and coxy, the staff and patrons are exceptionally friendly, and the drinks are both very good and inexpensive. I rate these 5 stars.

I've only dined once at Bull McCabe's, and eaten only a few items from their menu. I rate the quality and preparation only 3 stars for what I ate, altough the prices are quite inexpesive. I understand that some other patrons rate some of their other menu items more highly.

From my perspective, they deserve 4.5 stars overall.

I heard great things about the food here, so we checked it out before heading to see some freind's bands across the street a Radio - which is THE BEST place in Union!
    More on tha later...

So I ordered a chicken ceasar wrap - for 12 bucks?  my Gal got some chicken nugge kinda of app.  so - quick?  no.  about 1/2 hour.  really - for an app and a roll up?
the nugget - way overdone, my wrap - meh.  I've had better from Rebeccas for 7 bucks.

the allagash was warm - on tap?

We had high expections based on friends recommendations. I guess the former chef has moved on, and you should too...

This place is so warm and inviting. Made my first trip with the wife from the South Shore and we were both so happy to have done so. Food is awesome and the staff is attentive, but not in your face.
We both had the filet entree which was so good and priced right. Fries, veggies and salad were a perfect combo for this meal.

Great place that we'll visit again and again, for sure.

We went here last week and our reaction was "why don't we come here more often?"

It's definitely on our radar, we definitely mention it is an option, but then we end up going other places.  I don't know why.  It's so close to our house, the staff is so friendly, and the atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming.  The food is super delicious too.

Granted, it did take a ridiculously long time to get our food, but I can understand that when I see the one guy in a tiny hole of a kitchen cooking it.

I'm going to bump Bull's up a star.  As the closest bar to my place I'm in here quite frequently.

All of the comments from my previous review still hold true: tiny space that gets a little too loud (and sometimes packed) when the shows are going on, eclectic and fun crowd, cheap drinks.  Their bartender who always seems to be working when I'm there - Kristen - is cute and friendly.

So I've tried some of their food since my original review, and it's probably as good as a closet-sized kitchen could possibly produce.  Plus, the cook is quite a character which provides a bunch of entertainment when he's fighting with the dishwasher or making dishes nobody ordered and then yelling at imaginary people for giving him the wrong instructions!

Went in on an early Saturday evening, expected to grab a quick meal and head home. Ended up staying for hours.

After coming in with a $30 Groupon, my boyfriend and I quickly realized it would be nearly impossible to spend that much money between 2 people on food, no matter how hungry we were. However, we gladly accepted the challenge, and the bartender/server/owner(?) was more than happy to bear witness.

We started with the Chicken & Vegetable Dumplings appetizer ($7), which consisted of 6 freshly fried potstickers and a sweet chili sauce. They were delicious, and could also have worked as an inexpensive entree. I ordered the Grilled BBQ Chicken Sandwich ($8), which looked like it had TWO chicken breast fillets on it, and came with a bunch of fries and veggie toppings. He ordered the No Bull Burger ($8, make sure you remember to order your toppings!), but forgot to order cheese, then got that "I can't go BACK and order cheese, then what will they think of me?" feeling. Fortunately, though cheeseless, his burger was fantastic. The server was so nice, you could definitely go and order the dang cheese. We left with an order of plain Chicken Tenders ($7) to round out our Groupon, which made for fantastic next-day noshing.

They had Allagash and Summer Ale on tap, so I was a happy camper (~$6 per). Because we arrived for an early dinner, it was as though we had a private restaurant, but the place filled up by dark. The food was ridiculously hot off the grill and everyone was incredibly welcoming. The live music made the entire experience (Irish rock/rhythm - check the online schedule for other artists), and we left with a CD in hand.

Could not have ended my year of living in Boston on a better note. Go.

This place found a new manager back in 2008, and since then, it's been completely re-done for the better. The bar, once famous its shoe-box size, has been redesigned to welcome live music and beer enthusiasts. It's still cozy, when packed, however.

Located right near Union Square, this bar hosts a live act almost every night. They have an impressive collection of drinks. And now they have a kitchen! They have some dynamite pub food.

My friend and I got the steak tips as well as the fish and chips. Both were great. The fish was beer-battered to perfection. Certainly a filling dinner, in addition to some quality beers.

I knew it was going to be a steal...came in with a CoupMe voucher for $30 worth of food, and with two of us, I knew that would go far. We even splurged and had beers!

Bull McCabe's offers a small, but decently diverse, menu for a tiny neighborhood pub. I was severely tempted by the chicken parm sandwich, but settled on a burger with cheddar and bacon. When I saw some red on my bun, I was instantly pleased-- burger cooked to medium rare specification? Check.

We sat toward the back near a bookshelf full of random novels, recipe books, and other stuff. There are two large tvs, ensuring optimum sports game viewing from all sides. I was a bit more pleased when music came on instead, but I can see why the neighborhood crowd would be into their sports.

Service was fine, and table condiments included salt, pepper, ketchup, grey poupon, A1, and malt vinegar. It's a cozy spot that offers nightly specials (Tues-Thurs nights, that's a $4 burger!) and Monday night trivia and Wednesday night karaoke.
Stalkers, if you're looking for me on Wednesday nights, check Bull McCabe's.

A sliver of space that somehow hosts comfortably full trivia, karaoke and live music. It's a magnetic Mystery Spot, some anomaly that blends hipster scene with townie attendance and throws cheap, satisfying eats in the mix.

Last night's $6 blue plate special: ultimate chimichanga with homemade pico and sour cream. Yes, I ordered Tex-Mex at an Irish pub. I also take two brochures when the sign clearly says "Take one!" Ballers push the line. Smidge heavy on the rice, leaving Shaun H to comment, "More like an arancini than a chimi." Indeed sir, but the fry was nice.

There's a definite HTF? factor for first-timers - tables but no food servers (you order at the bar) and a level of patience for short staff that would rather mingle with their regulars. To be honest, I don't blame them. George, you were a peach, even though you kept calling me Daniel.

Bull McCabe's gold star is its geographically uncharacteristic bubble of friendliness. Maybe it's the, ahem, cozy atmosphere or some crazy strain of Somerville green, but every person - employee and patron alike - treats you like a pal. Someone they know or genuinely want to know, and no amount of $4 burgers or $5 Long Trails or no-wait karaoke can keep me away.

Because, you know, those things are awful.

I haven't been yelping for quite some time, but as this is my first in 2 months, I felt it shouldve been a good one.

I truly loved this place.  I came with my boyfriend last Sunday (halloween). The outside was a bit sketch, there were no windows looking in and the door made me a bit skeptical, but I'm glad I went in.

There were a few older men at the bar, and only one other couple sitting down, which I suppose is normal for a sunday night.

As soon as the bartender made it over to our table, I immediately fell in love. He's such a great, personable guy and its very obvious that he cares a great amount for this bar and his customers.  I couldn't ask for better, or friendlier, service.  He made sure to make the time to talk to everyone at some point throughout the night, and just seemed like a genuine dude.

The food was pretty good. Awesome chicken tenders. They happened to be out of barbecue sauce, and after a very sincere apology, the bartender offered to bring us out 4 different kinds of sauces to make up for it.  Fries were great.  Steak tips were a little too heavily sauced up, but for $8, they were damn good (apparently low priced steak tips are a sunday-only deal). I got a burger which i would say was just decent.  Nothing too special but filled my stomach regardless.

They have a pretty decent beer selection- I always get exctied to see allagash white on tap.

10 pm rolled around, and a band called Dub Apocalypse started setting up.  As soon as I saw the sax, I immediately ordered another beer, and the bartender went on to explain that they place there every Sunday and are all extremely talented.

Once they started playing, I honestly did not want to leave. They were so good!  Only a handful of people stumbled in after 10 to see them play which i just found to be shocking.  I plan to make Bull McCabes my new sunday night spot.  I wish they advertised their live music more, because I'm sure a larger crowd would start showing up.  Totally impressed and officially am a fan.

The food is solid pub fare. They have a good beer list that borders on excellent. But the fact is, it looks like a nice corner bar, but they are trying too hard. They should just have the local sporting event on mute and let people sit, drink and talk. Instead, every night they have a gimmick. One night it's trivia, most nights its music that ranges from bad to unbearable (well, to me anyways. It's usually pretty full so I guess some people disagree).

I live a stone's throw away, and the music is quite loud. They've gotten better at keeping the door closed, but even so some late nights it makes it so I can't have my window open, and frequently I can hear it even when I have it closed. I'm not the type to file a noise complaint (although I have groggily considered it when I have to get up early in the morning) and the owner has graciously offered to take care of it if I let him know. (Thanks Brian, I may take you up on that sometime)

If they just did what they do well, which is darts, beer and food, I'd be there pretty much all the time. As it is, I go once in a while, and leave when the band starts setting up.

    Bullshit McWhere?

This place is about nearly right.  It's fine, man.  I mean, totally.   It's kind of a nice shithole.  It's not as bad as when someone tells you a meal that you made for them "tastes interesting...", but it's not too much better.  That's really no reflection on the food here, just a bullshit analogy that I didn't put really all that much thought into, which is what I feel Bull McCabe's deserves.

The "$4 dolla burgas" (that were actually $6) were actually pretty ok.  And they're goddamned huge, too.  Everyone else seemed to really dig their burgers, but I wasn't as into it.  Whatever the fuck.

Karaoke here was pretty fun.  Our crew got to sing a bunch of bullshit which is always coo.  The highlight of the night was when my friend dropped the mic after his song and bolted into the women's restroom.

The service was actually decent.  Beers fine.  You know, Bull McCabe's.  It's a place, right?

    Great place....
The Guinness is very good...I am from Dublin originally and pretty fussy when it comes to the black stuff...
The owner Brian really has done a nice job with this place....
They make the effort on the food, the drinks and the vibe and it shows...
No attitude in this bar....all welcome.
    I will be back soon...

I had never heard of this bar until one of my friends suggested we 'pop in here for one or two' on our way to another bar and coming from the Burren. I had no idea what to expect but my mate always knows a good bar.

Anyway, it was a Friday night. We went in and I immediately knew I'd love this place. For a small bar it ahd a great beer selection and even had Chimay on tap. I love Belgium beers and not too many places have anything other than Blue Moon (Belgian type beer) on tap.

There was an awesome Blues band playing in the corner-they weren't too loud and you could still talk to anyone around you.

I'm not sure of the capacity but I'd say there were about 60 people in the place and it was pretty full but not over crowded.

I have sine been back many times and will continue to go there. They have great music and good beer. I've never had food here and I'm not even sure if they do food. I've always only been here after 10pm at night and I've had great times every time.

I spent a good part of my St. Patrick's day here.  My first impression was that it was a small, dark, clean Irish bar - kinda vaguely divey, but not offensively so.  A few hours (and a few beers) later, and my first impression still held true.

The relatively narrow bar is populated by tall, wooden chairs and tables.  The table I sat at with two friends was next to a bookshelf filled with someone's unwanted books (think trashy novels and car guides), which mostly dated from the '80s.  The only really open area of floorspace in the bar houses a dartboard, so watch out when you're drunkenly stumbling to the bathroom.  Bull McCabe's is definitely a bar with a group of regulars, but the bartenders were equally friendly and attentive to the first timers like myself.  I only wish that they had a kitchen; for better or for worse, I like to order (deliciously unhealthy) food when I go out drinking.

Bull McCabe's is an unpretentious Boston Irish bar - if you're in Union Square, it's definitely worth popping into for a drink.

I live across the street fom this fine establishment, and have adopted it as my new alcoholic home.

At first, I was worried that it was another irish-themed pub replete with A&F assholes, staffed by cooler-than-thou douchebags who can't pull a pint of guiness.  Thank GOD I was wrong.

Upon first walking in I was greeted by a friendly bartender who promptly got me a pint with a smile and some brief conversation, and soon I found myself talking to the rest of the patrons in the bar. . .not really what I'm used to around these parts, but quite a nice surprise.

Come to find out that this is the old Tir Na Nog, and they're taking up the mantle, offering live music most nights of the week.  Apparently Peter Wolfe even showed up and did a few tunes a few nights ago.

Crazy.  And even with all that awesomeness, I 1. don't get attitude from the employees and 2. don't hear a sound outside my window.

    Bull's, fuck yeah.
