As a southerner, I am often deeply by what gets praised as "southern cuisine" in Boston. Oftentimes, it's modified too much for supposed New England tastes or is made too pretentious. However, when I tried the Darryl's Sunday brunch buffet, I was more than impressed. From grits to fried chicken to collard greens, Darryl's was on point. The food tasted authentic and was presented well without being foodie pretentious. The live music added a nice jazzy ambience, even though it was a bit loud.

I found Darryl's to be a little pricier than what I was expecting, but when you're the real deal, you can charge a premium. Given the nature of the food, it's not something I can eat everyday, but it's definitely great for a special occasion or for teaching a local "Real Southern Food 101".

Amazing food! Upscale, South-End southern cooking is the best way I could describe it. I have nothing bad to say about the food or service. It is kinda loud when they have live music but if you like the music, the place is absolutely perfect. Also, considering the quality, it's very reasonably priced as well. Definitely recommended!

I'm new to Boston and being  this was my first outing... I was not disappointed! I only ordered crab cakes but they were delicious! The staff is extremely friendly and the live band was excellent. I also really liked the fact that there was a little diversity in there as well! In short...go, you'll have a great time. Oh...I only gave 4 stars because like other reviewers noted, it was a little loud for the size of the space.

This is only getting 4 stars because the noise level. Food was amazing! Waiter was very attentive to our large group. The music Is great, but in such a small area it makes it very hard to have a conversation.

I will be back! Because lets face it when you are eating really tasty food who needs to talk LOL. I highly recommend the Mac and cheese and fried chicken. Triple points for them making turkey bacon! And the grits! OH MY GOD to die for creamy, flavorful and cheesy!

I came in for Sunday brunch. The music was wonderful. There was a young white man, Alexi, who entertained us with his soulful tunes. The food was amazing as well. These waffles are about 75% fluff!!!! I went to Boston College and Darryl's waffles are better than the eagle waffle!!!!!

We came kinda late for brunch and we only got one waffle but the waiter kindly went to the back and retrieved more, freshly cooked waffles for us per our request. The experience was wonderful- great music, great food, and great service. I will certainly be returning.

I haven't been to this spot since it was Bob the Chefs years ago. But I am visiting from out of town and decided to see the new setup. I was amazed that they kept the quality of food and even the live music, which was there before. I'm a sucker for buffets so I was over the moon eating authentic soul food served by attentive waiters. Posh but family style at the same time. Hugely recommended if you're looking for a far soulful brunch in the bean.

Stopped in for a quick bite before the symphony, chicken and waffles.  Waffle was good. Chicken? lets just say Olive's bf makes a meaner chicken.  would've given 3 stars overall but -1 for the "entertainment charge" $4/pp.  Do you guys not pay the house band?  Probably won't be making a trip here again. MEH!

We stopped into Darryl's and there was a group celebrating the Kentucky Derby. It was fun to watch everyone interacting. I had the Chicken Martini which packs a punch so sip slowly but it was deliscious. I also hade the catfish strips which was to die for. The crab cakes however tasted like they had  been cooked in old grease. Nothing flavorful about them and tasted kinda burnt. I also had the hush puppies which I ended up bringing home. So I can honestly review them. We enjoyed the atmosephere but some of my dishes were a hit and miss. I would return to try it again. Oh service was bit slow and we waited around awhile until someone even acknowledged that we were even there. This could have been due to the large crowd celebrating the derby.

Great music, great food. The service was a bit slow, but we had cocktails which made it OK. Good menu for gluten free and vegetarians. We were seated close to the band and it was LOUD.

I finally made it to Darryl's which multiple people have raved about.

The only con for me were the drinks. They were incredibly weak.  DO NOT ORDER SHOTS HERE! I paid 24 dollars for shots of patron for my friend and I, which they served in what I can only describe as baby shot glasses. I've never seen such small tiny shot glasses before. I had three cocktails(don't judge) and it felt like I was basically drinking mixed juices(some of them were good, others like Darryl's punch was way too sugary) When you are charging 10-15 bucks a pop for drinks it better be worth it, and sadly it was not.  I switched to wine for the rest of the night.

There was some confusion with our party that lead to us not being seated for almost an hour but it was partly our fault so I will give them a pass for that one. Although my friend told me if you are one minute late to your reservations your table will be given away. The waitress was a bit flustered and took a while to bring the check and forgot my drink, but she was very friendly, apologized for forgetting my drinks, and actually did a good job at keep track of all the people at our table. Then she took a hundred pictures for us also. The band and Dj also gave great shout-outs to the birthday girl.

After blabbing away instead of reading the menu I ordered the boring baked chicken with fries and cornbread. Cornbread tasted great, fries were great, chicken was seasoned well but a bit too dry for my liking. I was drooling over everyone else's food that looked amazing.  We split the peach chilli wings for an app they are amazing and I heard all the other wings are stellar as well so I will be back to try those and other dishes soon.

My favorite part of the night was the dancing, at around 11, the dinner crowd moved out and dancers moved in. I loved the crowd it was small, mostly black people(which is nice and rarity in a Boston) most of all everyone looked respectful and nice, guys had collared shirts and jackets on, and even the few casual guys looked smart as they didn't have their jeans hanging off their behinds, I don't know why I thought that was cute at 16. Anyways if you are looking to mix and mingle with  nice young(20's-30s) black crowd this is the place to be. The Dj played a nice mix of old school, late 90's, and current rnb,hip hop, and reggae. My friends and I had an amazing time dancing!

The drinks aren't on par, but the food, music, and dancing is!

I have no complaints about Darryl's.

The food and drinks are delicious. The staff are great and very attentive. The manager is personable and the Jazz is always grade A fancy. After hours music is always good as well.  I love it. This is one of my favorite places to have a night out.

This place is the best place I have ever been in the Southend! I am from LOS ANGELES and I feel right at home. The selection of the food is BOMB!! I really don't understand the negative reviews. I really don't, The staff and the General Manager does not forget a face. Tonight was the second time me being there and he remembered me! I would have to say the Catfish, Mac & Cheese, Greens , Cornbread, and my favorite the Jambalaya is STRAIGHT SOUL COOKING. If you combined that with the SWEET JAZZ AND R&B you are in for a TREAT!!!!! I wish they would establish the same type of Corner Bar & Kitchen in Los Angeles! Because we are LACKING AN ESTABLISHMENT JUST LIKE THIS IN THE HEART OF LA. I am just saying ( i.e LA LIVE, Santa Monica, Hollywood) Would be the great location to also show the Westcoast how it is done.

Darryl's You will see me as a regular now! So you have won over a WONDERFUL CUSTOMER to your establishment

I've been back to Darryls a dozen times since my August 2011 review and let me just say, they ain't what they used to be.

The food is still good even though the portions have shrank. (Collard greens have actually improved in flavor since the bland imposter they fronted over a year ago).

The red velvet cake is NO LONGER where it's at. It now tastes quite bland and eerily similar to the taste of a chocolate glazed donut from D&D.... If food coloring had a flavor, it would tastes like this red velvet number.

I'm not sure if they've changed their vendor or whatever...all I know is that I've been highly disappointed with this red velvet about 6 times on 6 different occasions before I decided to finally write this review. I'm actually pretty loyal when I find a place that treats me right and feeds me well... but it gets to a point where one must put her fork down!

I used to LOVE the service here. Not the case anymore... the hostess was impersonal and cold and waitresses are kind of ghetto-fabulous. One particular waitress (and I won't use names this time), actually sat down next to me to take my order. Plopped is more accurate. When I moved my purse there so she couldn't keep doing that, she just plopped on the other side of me! She used phrases like, "baby, sweetheart, and girl" and maybe some folks are into that. However, when I decide to eat out and spend close to a hundred dollars on service and a meal, I expect a certain level of professionalism. She was just too loud, too uncouth, and just too much.

I'm a huge fan of live music and soul food but I value excellent service and standard a little more.

This is no longer a classy joint and it's definitely a few services away from being totally etched off of my list of go-to restaurants.

It would be nice for this place to last this time around...

Perfect place for a date night! We made reservations for two at 7:00 PM and we got sat right away (in front of the jazz band too!). It took a bit of time for the waitress to come over and take our order but all was forgiven for the time because the music was good and she acknowledged the slowness in service and offered an apology for it at the end of the meal. Since we were bar hopping, my bf and I decided to split an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. For the appetizer we ordered a bowl of gumbo. I love gumbo and this definitely satisfied my craving. My bf thought that the gumbo was ok but wasn't spectacular. Overall, the gumbo that you get here is nothing compared to the gumbo you might get in New Orleans, LA but hey beggars can't be choosers. For our entree, we got the blackened catfish with a side of collard greens and candied yams. Delicious!!! The catfish literally melts in your mouth. For our dessert, we got a fabulous slice of red velvet cake. The cake is premade but they heat it up and it is served with a scoop of warm cream. The cocktail menu is pretty standard and offers some pretty decent drinks such as the Bee's Knees and spiked ice tea.
The jazz band was delightful and I like how they are able to book a variety of bands for each night. I definitely look forward to coming back here!

I heard good things about Darryl's so I decided to go last Friday with a few friends. We ordered buffalo wings and peach sweet chile wings (these were awesome)!! music was very good no complaints there, but the space is so small theres no room to move around. For what its worth I had a decent time. I may return to try different items on the menu, but not for the night life.

Soul food, jazz music, and hanging out with friends, what's not to love, right? Well, unfortunately, as it turns out, one bad staff can ruin an otherwise wonderful evening.

I came here for a school reunion with friends whom I've not seen for many years, and knowing that the atmosphere was likely going to be fancy, but busy, we had placed a reservation in hopes of beating the traffic. However, once we arrived on time, we were still forced to wait for 45 minutes, in which many of us filled our bellies with numerous cocktails (mediocre...) and beer. Granted, the live jazz music was phenomenal and the atmosphere was teeming with excitement and energy. However, things took a dive for the worst when the manager came up to us numerous time during the evening and tried to convince those who ordered a meal to kick the half of our friends from our reserved seats because they were only ordering desserts. It is understandable that ordering drinks and appetizers may not bring in as much income as compared to ordering the entree, but the 9 of us were crammed in a 6 person seat and we all ordered alcohol, which is one of the most profitable items in any restaurant. The fact that the manager repeatedly harassed us to get out and gave us dirty looks when we were rushing to pay the bills just left a very sour taste in our mood and appetite.

The regular waiting service was great, our waiter was friendly and engaging, and the food was also enjoyable as well. Price was a little bit on the more expensive side and there was an "entertainment charge," which was very reasonable for the great music. But man, that one manager just absolutely ruined the night for me.

Overall: great place, good music, horrible management. I would not come back.

    Food: 3 stars
    Waiter: 4 stars
    Ambiance: 5 stars
    Management: abysmal, 1 star

Love this place.  Have only been in once, but will definitely be back, and can't wait to try the food!

Bartender was a little forgetful, but super friendly and ended up charging me for a Bud when I got something fancier; can't argue with that!

The live music was great, super friendly atmosphere; good all around!

OK - we were only there for a dessert last night. May some day change the rating above.  But I can vouch that the music was excellent, the coffee fresh (at 11:30 at night), the service friendly and efficient, and the cake (we tried both the Red Velvet and the Mile High Chocolate cakes) TO DIE FOR.

Looking forward to going back for dinner and/or brunch.

For Boston, Darryl's is a stand out kind of place. It's a rarity to have a place successfully unite food, music, and comfort. Southern food at that. Jazzzz beats at that. Im not a huge fan of Southern food, but the home-cooking comfort food is impeccably paired with the soothing live music. And the service tops it all off. Incredibly warm and hospitable, a number of staff/mgt stopped at our table to provide any help. Come here to go to your happy place, and let go of your worries for a night.

Best Southern food in Boston. Period.

I visited there with a group of friends a few weeks ago, and we absolutely stuffed ourselves in a gorgeous night of gluttony and good company. The food is divine and the drinks are well-made, too. Our server was friendly and delightful, while the atmosphere was lively (if loud).

The table shared calamari as an appetizer... not sure this is a Southern dish specifically but it was delicious and had us all eager for the main course. I had the blackened catfish which was wonderfully flaky and juicy with a hint of lime. My husband had the gumbo as a starter, which impressed him by being the just-right mix of spicy without losing the other flavors in spiciness, then the ribs for his entree. He says these were the best ribs he's ever had regarding the quality of the meat, which stood out over the excellent BBQ sauce. Others had fried chicken and waffles. They raved about them.

We also had dessert, which we really should not have had, so we had three: red velvet cake, a chocolate mousses cake, and a sweet potato pie. Red velvet cake is a special favorite of mine, and it's so rarely done well but the cake was incredibly chocolatey with a wonderful cream cheese frosting. The chocolate mousse was smooth and decadent while the sweet potato pie was a great balance to round off the rich chocolate desserts.

I would return here any time. Darryl's Corner is a truly special restaurant.

I was looking to have dinner at a place that was classy and distinctive. I was tired of all the french and italian. This place filled the bill. The quality of the food and drink is very high, and the overall vibe is positive and relaxed. The killer thing is the music, so pick a night with the kind of music you like. I like the jazz nights more than the hip hop.

The music can be heard throughout the place, but not every seat has a line of sight to the musicians. This is good, because then the music doesn't compete as much with the dinner conversation.

It fairly expensive. There is an entertainment fee the music, and a door fee after they close the kitchen.

    Outstanding.

Darryl's is a little place on Columbus just over Mass Ave, that packs a BIG surprise. Upon entering, you are greeted with the strains of jazz and blues from the live musicians performing. There is a small foyer leading up to the hostess station and coat check. We got a little stuck/bottlenecked there as we checked in our coats. Apparently if the whole party is not present, you will not be seated, so keep that in mind. Our party of seven was all there so they immediately led us to our table. Our reservation was at 7 and there were a few tables empty, but they filled up as the night coasted along, and the place was packed when we left around 8:30p.

Ambience: Artwork covers the walls, paying homage to the jazz greats of the century. Lighting was sparse but it wasn't so dark that you couldn't see. The ladies room was notoriously difficult to find - it's tucked behind the bar. The musicians are located kind of in the middle of the long, narrow space. I prefer to hear the conversation at the table so I wish the music had been just a tad quieter, so I did a lot of nodding and smiling as I tried to hone my lip-reading skills.

Menu and food: The menu is on the small side, favouring Southern specialties. This is NOT the place to go if you're on a diet. I can only recall one or two salads. I had my heart set on chicken and waffles - and felt my mouth watering just reading the words. Our party tried the shrimp & grits, biscuits & gravy, chicken & waffles, fried chicken, macaroni & cheese, and candied yams. I was so jealous of the biscuits, which looked delicious but I didn't get to try. However, my entrée was to die for. The chicken was perfectly crispy outside and juicy inside, the waffle was delicious, and we polished off a whole server of maple syrup. Portion sizes were perfect. Everyone had just the right amount of food so that we were satisfied but not stuffed. Almost everyone finished their plates - even the four girls!

Beverages: We tried a wide array of their specialty drinks. I had a fleur de something, it was perfectly light and fruity. Also tried was the Moscow Mule, which is served beautifully in a copper cup, also surprisingly delicious. Someone got the Darryl's Chicken Martini, I didn't try it but I think she liked it. The Bitter End was REALLY bitter, I didn't enjoy that but a friend did. The Corner Collins was nice and refreshing.

Service: Our server was there when we needed him, and elsewhere when we didn't. Very nice and a great memory, sadly mine is not as good as his as I can't recall his name.

Overall, it was a great experience and I'm excited to visit for brunch some Saturday!

    DAMN.GOOD.BRUNCH!

Rarely do I trust places that do Southern food. My family is from the South, so I should know good Southern food. I was raised on such goodness. There is an ART to it. Flavor is the key! The food can't be overly seasoned, but it's an absolute sin for it to be under-seasoned and dare I say *gasp* dry. But no, no that was not the case today.

Today I stopped in for brunch with my fiance and cousin. When we got there, we were greeted by warm smiles and smooooth jaaaazzzz. Well, actually, it was jumping! It was pretty damn good. Jazz with my Sunday brunch, don't mind if I do!

The restaurant is beautiful! It's very clean and modern, yet warm and intimate. It's not a huge place, but we were comfortable.

Anyway, the hostess was friendly and professional. She asked if we had reservations, which we didn't, but hey, it's good to know you can make them, because that place is quite popular for brunch. Then, she offered to check our coats, which is great, too. She told us there was a bit of a wait, which ended up being about 30 min., but we sat at the bar until our table was ready. We were acknowledged by the bartender and other members of staff who reassured us that a table was being prepared during our wait. We were offered drinks, but we wanted to wait until we were seated to order.

When we were seated, we were offered drinks and welcomed to help ourselves to the buffet. The buffet consisted of fresh, homemade waffles, homefries, eggs (with and without cheddar), grits, collard greens, yams, rice and beans, fried chicken, and more. I'll just say that everything was damn delicious! The waffles were crisp on the outside, yet warm and fluffy on the inside. And when the maple syrep hit it, oh mercy! And the syrup ran down onto the chicken, and I almost passed out from happiness! The grits were PERFECT! They were smooth and flavorful. I can tell they used a bit of black pepper, cheese, and a bit of butter. This is what I mean, you can ruin grits if you don't cook and flavor them just right, but I was so pleased with these grits. The potatoes were good. They were seasoned nicely, and had a nice mix of peppers (red/green bell). They were sauteed and quite good. The collard greens weren't over cooked or over seasoned, and they were a refreshing addition to my plate of goodness.

Service was good, we didn't have to wait long for any request, and we always had a full caraffe of ice water on the table. We were able to talk and enjoy the live band. At one point, a singer got up to perform some jazz and blues classics, and she was awesome! I wish I knew her name, but I think she said she'll be back on the 20th of this month. I think I'll stop by.

Overall, we had a great time. And when we got the bill...wait for it...$19.99 per person! BAM! WORTH IT! I could have floated out of there! I got great live music, great service, and awesome food for $19.99 (+ tax and grat, you know the usual). When we left, we were full without feeling like we just ate a bunch of junk, and we were still satisfied hours after we ate. I will definitely be back.

Definitely recommend this place. There's a great vibe here. The house band was playing on the night I went, and they were great! The music was excellent- great jazz and blues. Great music for just listening or for dancing. The food is good - nothing spectacular, but I am a New Yorker and a big foodie, so my expectations tend to be too high. But...they definitely have pretty tasty comfort foods, and the service was amazing!

I wandered out for a dinner on Thursday night and ended up having fried chicken and waffles. For a southern boy, that's pretty much like finding a slice of heaven in the northeast. They even brought me maple syrup.

The hostess was stunning. The waiter was a good dude. Music was fantastic and I'd like to believe I am fairly discerning. That technically is not the restaurant but they deserve props for just having good taste in music.

Great night and I will be back.

One of my best friends recently had her birthday at Darryl's, and while the party was totally the-bomb-dot-com, I left with mixed feelings about the restaurant.

    Positives first.
    1. My friend had reserved their private room, and it was nicely laid out for us when we arrived. It seemed to have been a painless process for her to set everything up with them.

    2. The ambiance was lovely -- it's a small place, so it feels all intimate and cool. The people were all super friendly and chill, which is only ever a good thing.

Less successful elements of the evening?
    1. The service was a hot mess. Granted, there were like 30 of us, and people were arriving and leaving all at different times. There was a lot to keep track of. However, they did give us two servers to do it, and the rest of the restaurant was basically empty that night. The timing was allll out of whack. Because we're not total heathens, we all waited until everyone had food before digging in. Result? My food had been sitting in front of me for a good 10 minutes before I got a taste.

    2. And about that food... It wasn't bad, by any stretch, but it wasn't all that either. I ordered the fried catfish with sweet potato fries and green beans. Listen, I was so hungry by this point that I left not even a smidge of remoulade on my plate. I went IN. The sweet potato fries hit the spot, and the green beans were crisp and fresh. The catfish were ok -- certainly not the best I've had in Boston, but I could work with it. My friend's mac and cheese though? Actively blurgh. I'm honestly not trying to be rude, but it sorta tasted like cardboard.

I listed two positives and two gripes, so I suppose 3 stars is a fair score. Plus, it looks like other Yelpers have had better luck with other stuff on the menu, so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. Still, I'm sure I won't come back. Tupelo (omgfriedgrits4lyfe) will remain my most beloved southern spot.

Sunday Brunch is great here. All you can eat fried chicken and waffles, on top of hash, eggs, grits, bacon, squash, ribs, other veggies was like music in my mouth. Oh wait, I mean, there was also music in my ears: the live jazz band is so fun! Plus there's a tiny salad/fruit/dessert bar, with thin slices of cake which was the perfect amount to taste, but not waste.

Service was really nice and they have a coat check.

If someone asked me where they should go... This is the first place I recommend!  It is truly my favorite in Boston!

Looking for some true soul food and a soulful environment? Look no further!
As soon as you walk in you just know your going to have a great time! The place is adorn with musical artwork, with a blues vibe and a vibrant energy.  To top it off they offer live jazz! Yes Live! Watch musicians play memorable tunes. Snap your fingers and sway to the soulful sounds while you sip on a glass of wine or one of their signature drinks.

The food is Just AMAZING! Everything from catfish, fried chicken and waffles, trout, ribs and oysters. Oh and do not forget the sides! Mac and cheese, yams, collard greens, cornbread and more.  Truly has you feeling like you are down south!

Atmosphere is a older professional but youthful vibe. Some of the nights they have special signature events. It may be guest speakers, poetry night or just dancing.  Always a great time! Also they have a SUNDAY Jazz brunch that you just can't beat! Amazing!

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The managers even go around to greet, welcome you and make sure your having a great time.

Oh yes there is a bar with TVs so you don't have to miss game results either. Or simply come after work for drinks or mid day lunch. Perfect!

Go! You will not regret it! You might even thank me :-)

Seriously interesting idea to throw this place right at the edge of Northeastern's campus, but hey, after eating there, I can dig it.

Being comfort food oriented, clearly I needed to try something to satisfy my lust for soul food.  And the cornbread-stuffed chicken I ordered and subsequently devoured certainly filled that void.  The chicken was a bit on the dry side, but hey, it was still definitely what I was craving in the moment. Darryl's has a pretty neat list of cocktails too, and moderately priced at about $10 a pop.  I had the 604 Manhattan -- a good take on an old classic.

The real star here though was the chicken wings.

    Sweet.  Jesus.

Easily the best I've had in Boston in my five years of residency here.  The peach chile wings were just downright killer, and I'm dying to try the bacon BBQ wings now.

As far as prices go, Darryl's is certainly up there, considering the area.  But come on now dude, you gotta expect a little extra coin for quality comfort food and live music (usually just weekends).  I came here on a Groupon, which definitely sweetened the pot, but I'm pretty sure I'll still go back on a date night in the future, discount or not.

On a whim, we stopped in for Sunday brunch. What a treat! There's live jazz and, food is offered buffet-style. We sat at the bar and ordered a round of Bloody Marys. Not the best but, more than quenched. The bartender was engaging and friendly. Could tell we were new, so offered some direction.

It's all you can eat for $22. The chicken & waffles is outstanding. As are the mac 'n cheese, collard greens, bacon and corn bread. The jazz cover band was good.

Will be going back. Worth going out of our way.

ATTENTION BOSTON. GO BACK TO BOB'S. BOB THE CHEF'S, DARRYL'S, or whatever you know the spot as. It's BACK the way it USED TO BE and the way WE USED TO LOVE IT! Darryl's IS BACK!

I reluctantly went on Sunday because I had an out of town guest and I wanted her to have a nice upscale brunch experience in a poc owned establishment in Boston (quite a difficult feat to pull off).

I hadn't been to Darryl's in quite some time.  The prices are (still) high- but WELL WORTH every penny NOW, the drinks had become questionable, the food had gotten mediocre, service had plummeted, and you wouldn't even think about being seated near your "reservation" time.

WOW!  Yesterday showed me a thing or two! Darryl's is BACK in a GOOD way and with a VENGEANCE! Every dish on the brunch buffet was delicious, the drinks were KILLER, the manager was MAGNIFICENT, the band was tolerable, and we had a stupendously awesome time!! My guest is still raving about the experience, and has vowed to go home to Atlanta telling everyone all about it.

If there were SIX STARS, I'd give them for yesterday.

****sidenote: there is this waitress with a punk rock blond hair-do, bad attire, not classy attitude, no-name jeans, she clearly doesn't fit in, but somehow she works here- don't sit in her section. she's rude, unpleasant, and not easy on the eyes. looks (and acts) more like she should be working at Panera Bread vs. here.

Came here for the sunday live jazz brunch buffet.

    Noteworthy Items:

    CREAMY YUMMY CHEESY GRITS
Fried chicken was well-seasoned and not too greasy at all!

The other items included collard greens, sweet mashed potatoes, sausage, ham, eggs, ribs, mac n cheese, and beans and rice.

Everything was made well, but it was a little pricy and I personally wouldn't pay full price to come here again, but if there's a deal... I mayyy find myself returning!

Once again, a discount deal brings us to a new adventure! We got a Gilt Group voucher for their Sunday jazz brunch, and off we went!

When we walked in, the host situation was a little chaotic. There was no one up by the door, so we walked over to the bar, but then someone else had to check us in for our reservation. The restaurant itself is small so we were sitting really close to the next table.

The food was AMAZING. The mac and cheese was the best mac and cheese I've ever had, and the cheese grits and collards were so yummy, too. The bacon wasn't as crispy as I usually like, but the fried chicken MORE than made up for it. Fab cornbread and an amazing mini red velvet rounded out a great buffet!

Unfortunately, trying to get our check was really chaotic. Apparently their computers went down, and so they couldn't process the vouchers. Aside from a water refill, our waitress just disappeared for the 20 minutes it took. Also, the live music was good once it started, but we arrived at 1030 (service starts at 10am) and the music didn't start til well after 11.

So, 5 stars for the food, 3 stars for the service... averages out to 4!

Good service, no wait, small place. intimate. We had a Groupon for this place $35 for 1 app, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert.

App: The crab cakes were good. I like the spicy sauce that goes with them.

Entrees: My friend got the fried cat fish, not my thing. I got the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. Not very healthy I know, but it had to be done. Very tasty!

Drinks: kind of expensive drinks. They were tasty but I didn't even get a buzz from it for $11 bucks.. Would prob get a beer next time.

Dessert: Holy YUM! The red velvet cake was to die for. Really, so delicious. I am not a huge cake fan either but it was so awesome.

Also, there was supposed to be music that night and there wasn't so I was kind of bummed about that! Overall great place! Groupon was a must though as it is kinda pricey! :)

I Iike this spot.  and I give it three stars because it has much more potential and I don't want that to get lost in a four star review.

Food: the food is good, not excellent though. I'd like to see them setup up their menu a la Bee Hive's offerings.  We all like that food just go for it. Still include some soul food options like mac n' cheese fried chicken etc.

LIve Music: This is a great, have seen good bands everytime I've gone. Diverse artists, not boring backround music (a la Bee Hive, their music is typically watered down, boring and/or whack).

DJs: Have not been impressed with DJs so far, its like the same standard boston old school hip hop/r n b playlist.  Get some young talent in there (like middlesex cambridge style)

THE BAR:  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE redesign the bar area.  This seems like a great energy focal point of the restaurant, but there is not enough space behind it, the lower seating needs to be removed and end where the bar start.  Also would be great if in the future there could be seats on the short side of the bar. Either way the space just needs to be used better.

Very great experience - relaxing fun weekend brunch with great food and entertainment to boot!

The live music is a definite plus, not sure many other places where you can get that during Sunday brunch.  The food was all tasty and even slightly intimidating with how much there was!  The options included: sausage, bacon, eggs (with and without cheese), grits, fried chickens, waffles, bbq ribs, mac and cheese, greens, sweet potatoes, and more!  Really good spread fit for a king - I had no problem getting down to business and stuffing myself silly.

The only concern is the price.  This isn't your run-of-the-mill $15 brunch, with the cost of the brunch buffet (I think it was $25?) plus drinks, you end up shelling more for the meal than I would typically pay.  Still an overall positive experience but good to be aware of.

The service was great! (I sat at the bar) and I felt cared for the entire meal and was glad this wasn't an issue for us as it's been reflected in certain reviews.

If this place were any cozier and southern-er, it would be called Aunt Jemima's Fried Chicken and Waffle Haven of Biscuits. Seriously, live jazz? Candles and exposed brick? A little corner bar? You just want to pull an afghan around yourself and curl up.

The jumbalaya is delicious and hearty with lots of plump shrimp and fresh mussels. This is one of my favorite dishes in the world and Darryl's does it pretty well. My only complaint is too much paprika on the side, not enough actual spices in the dish. The fried chicken was decent but a little on the dry side.

For drinks, the Corner Bargarita, Tempest and Flower Power are all fruity and delicious. Considering they're around $9-11, they're worth the money.

I docked a star for our waitress who had a bit of an attitude problem at the beginning. 'Tude is rude, you know?

It's amazing how a negative Yelp review can inspire IMMEDIATE response (when multiple calls and emails did not) . . .

This situation has finally been resolved.  Six weeks later.

I will give Darryl's one star back for their customer service efforts.  But chances of our returning are pretty damn slim.  I don't take kindly to someone messing with my credit card under any circumstances.  The city is full of fabulous restaurants with a more honest (and responsive) staff.

SUNDAY LIVE JAZZ BRUNCH BUFFET... w/ a buywithme deal BUT beware of the unexpected prediscount 18% gratuity & tax (even though we were a party of 2).. .the buffet was good but i probably wouldn't pay regular price for it!

For a buffet there isn't too much selection BUT everything offered was pretty good!:
---FAVORITES: the creamy CHEESE GRITS & nicely seasoned fried chicken YUM i would come back just for these!
---other options: mac n cheese, bread pudding, corn bread, beans & rice, waffles, collard greens, sweet & regular mashed potatoes, sausages, fresh fruit, ribs, scrambled eggs, & ham

the staff here is really nice but a bit disorganized in getting us a table & refilling the plates/food at the buffet

PLUSES: complimentary coat check! (being from cali i was not used to this) & the live jazz was very enjoyable

NOTE: MAKE A RESERVATION if you are coming for the sunday jazz brunch, the restaurant can get packed
