When my friend suggested that we try this place out on a Tuesday, I was not expecting to stay out all night, but this place made me feel like I was having a fun Friday night!
My last memories of this place were: a tattoo and cotton candy with pop rocks on top. Could you ask for much more?
The little bit of shaved ice + tequila that kicked off our meal made my friend and I look at each other and say "where are we???" The Sangria and Margaritas were amazing in themselves, but the trio of salsas and huge basket of chips that came with kept my friend and I distracted for long enough to ask for a second round of drinks. I ordered the trio of guacamole as well, and the combo of bacon and lobster on my guac was just YUM!
It is a bit dark, and you kind of feel like you're in an underground vampire hangout, Â but this place of full of fun delights and surprises.
Lolita's offers a provocative, enigmatic ambiance lit by the flickering candles and gothic aesthetics that lend to the overall design of this well-conceptualized lounge. The styling almost alludes to a Pedro Almodovar film set, percolated with the decor of the Dia de Los Muertos holiday.
Located right off the Copley Station on the green line, Lolita's is conveniently situated in between Newbury and Boylston in Back Bay. I highly suggest making reservations because if not, the wait can exceed more than an hour at times. Plus, there usually is a table if one calls ahead of time, even earlier in the day. They do provide lounge and bar seating but that is first come first serve and those spaces usually become occupied by 7 or or 8.
My friends and I always try taking advantage of their all-you-can-eat beef/chicken hard-shell tacos for $7 on Mondays. Considering its prime location and stylized scene, this is pretty much a great deal. I mean, given its astoundingly low pricing for this offer, the meat is what you would expect; the ground beef can be borderline greasy as if rendered in its own fat while one might really have to gnaw on the chicken since its so dry. Thankfully, it is complemented with an array of salsas and condiments (sour cream, lettuce, cheese) which balances the flavors suitably. Plus, they usually provide chips to go along with the salsa which alone, could be considered enough of a meal.
The servers also usually starts the table off with a palate cleanser, consisting of a grapefruit mint concoction that surfaces above dry ice. If 21+, they even offer a splash of tequila which livens up the mood. Likewise, a behemoth cloud of cotton candy embellished with pop rocks is served alongside the bill.
As far as drinks go, I have had their blackberry sangria and the Diablo margarita, both which were refreshing and highly developed in their flavors. However, they're a tad pricy, especially given that the glasses only fill up to at most, 12 oz and is consumed to the brim with ice.
Wow, the food is delicious here at lolitas (tacos, tuna..).... the drinks are good, im a big fan of their sangria..mmm mm good. I came on a friday night once, and it's so hard to get a seat..it's packed! The server came around...periodically..mostly when i didn't need anything, but when i did it was hard to find since it was crowded. I still really enjoy the food so i am def going back.
Review Source:My favorite drinking place in Boston.
The cocktail list is original and excellent. Â I really enjoyed the lolita margarita and the fresca mojitos. Â Even though we only ordered the I want it all guacamole (which BTW was excellent), they gave us the chips with the three dipping sauces. Â That was great. Â But when the check arrived, they gave us the cotton candy with the pop rocks on top! Â Score!
Dark. Devilish. Delicious. Stopped here impromptu post early closing at Zocalo down the road. If you like your lounges with a gothic, barbie-gone-badass theme this place has what you need. Endless red felt. Intimidating black chandeliers. And bacon guacamole. Yes, you heard that right: BACONGUAC. Â Like the Satan you expect to see coming out of the kitchen, just understand your diet's going to hell in hand basket once you walk through these doors. Drinks not bad either, with our group kicking off with a trio of white lies, broken hearts, and (for the true fire-lovers) spicy cucumber - a liquid IcyHot that has you breathing fire in no time. Round two spun up with a round of blackberry sangrias, which (while not as devilish as the margaritas) held their own. Waitress attentive. Bartenders experienced. Music low enough to carry a convo, a nice change to the commodity Boylston bass-n-bump MO. Not a place for everyone, but if you are still bitter over Keanu Reeves bumping you out of the lead role in Devil's Advocate, Lolita's got same set without all the trouble of birthing the antichrist and ending the world. A great spot for those with a taste for the dark and different.
Review Source:We were blown away by how cool this place is! My husband and I both agreed this would be a great place to take friends that visit us in Boston. The interior is all black and red with skulls. So its darker than we thought with the servers wearing black and/or red and carrying around palate cleansers in dry ice which made our eye go wide. The drinks are expensive so just be prepared that this is not a cheap night out if you are getting drinks. The margaritas are about $14 a person. Get the tacos! Hands down - Â GET THE TACOS!! They were amazing!!! And believe it or not, the brussels spouts were our side we picked and they were like eating candy. They were spicy with a sweet sauce mixed in. They were amazing!!! And you get complimentary cotten candy at the end of the meal! SO COOL!!! We will totally be back!
Review Source:I am only giving this review three (3) stars because my waitress was knowledgeable, cheerful and incredibly cute. Â I did leave her a nice tip, as the other issues are a bit beyond what I felt was her control.
The three (3) salsas that came with the chips were outstanding, but the chips were a bit oily like they had been sitting for a while and soaked up the oil. Â Maybe they were fried at too low a temperature.
I had the carne asada which had a wonderful flavor but was cut with the grain of the meat instead of across the grain. Â This made something that should have been tender, very tough and chewy. Â
The banana cheese cake and cotton candy with pop rocks along with my coffee was great. Â Just before the desert arrived, they turned up the stereo with full base. Â Having my table shake with every boom of the drum beat was not exactly the experience that I was hoping for. Â Do they really believe that turning up the volume will improve the melody of a song? Â What they did manage to accomplish was to have everyone yell at each other instead of speaking, which made the entire establishment incredibly loud.
I went on a Saturday night with some family/friends-- I love the ambiance of this place, the decorations are fantastic and the bathrooms were amazing. The service at the bar was ok, but the drinks were superb. I ordered a blackberry sangria-- that drink is a must-get if you check this place out. It was too late to order food when we went there, but the waitress gave us some chips and salsa and was very accommodating until it closed.
Review Source:It's like walking into Don Ed Hardy's dream bar. It's super dark in there so watch where you step lest you be embarrassed by the occasional up or down step.
Pretty good food, pretty good drinks. Probably more fun if you show up at night. I rolled in at 4 pm on a Sunday so it was pretty dead. Pretty clutch location though if you happen to be walking around that part of Boston.
I will probably revisit soon to see what it's like at night.
Came here on a friday night ready to par-tay. There was no cover which was awesome, but the music was just Ok. Â Nothing u can dance to. Â More of a lounge type of feel which is not what we were looking for that evening
We ordered a few drinks and decided to stay a while. Be forewarned the pineapple margarita is spicy! They must use tobasco.
If you're looking for a funky lounge this is the spot for you .
Chose Lolita as my venue for my birthday dinner, made a reservation on Monday for 12 people! Thursday came around and they called to make sure there were no changes in the reservation, which was wonderful!
Got there about 830 (i was hosting so I made sure to be early!) and they said the table would be ready soon, and that I could enjoy a cocktail at the bar and sit on the couches. Once about half the group was there, we sat down at a huge round table which was awesome so I could see everyone!!!
We ordered drinks, I got the Red LuLu, it was yummy! The sorbet was amazing, especially with the tequila on top! Free chips and salsa was great, and the apple flavored cotton candy was a super fun way to end the dinner!
For my main course I had the chicken quesadilla and a side of dirty rice, the rice was so spicy! Prices are a little high, but for the atmosphere and city its in, its pretty comparable.
I would definitely come back, thank you guys for a great time!
I unfortunately do not muster the energy to write a review unless my experience was so bad that I feel it my duty to warn humankind not to come (you're welcome) but my experience at Lolita was so fantastic that this run-off sentence doesn't even bother me.
The food wasn't mindblowing, but the entire experience left us so happy we almost called it a night haha.
We went for early dinner. They give you free chips and salsa, but please please get the avocado with tocino pork belly (the avocado was fresh and yummy but we were really fighting over the belly bits). The strawberry basil mojito was delicious (I am doubting the amount of alcohol in it though, but it tasted so good, who really cares). We both got quesadillas, which were okay, but not memorable. The free cotton candy was definitely a highlight and the cute temporary tattoos were fun. The service was attentive, and we left happy even though it's a little $$. I'd say a great place to go before heading off to the club or for dinner.
So, if I had to sum it up: not mmnom, but yay!Lolita.
I felt like I was walking into some sort of vampire's lair.. a little confused. So they serve Mexican food but they have a gothic-esque atmosphere with red lights and chandeliers and skull paintings.
We came here for the AYCE taco night on Monday. $7 for chicken or beef tacos?? GIMME!
This place was definitely an interesting experience!
We started our girls night at the front with the hostesses, who were pretty much trying to get us to go to a different restaurant. Wait a second.. I thought you were supposed to bring customers in.. not scare us away! We put our name down nonetheless, despite the 45 minute way cause.. well, we wanted our tacos dammit!
Luckily there were a few seats at the bar though, so the 4 of us butt-buddied it on 2 chairs and enjoyed our ginger peach sangrias. Delightful! We also ended up ordering the tacos from the nice bartender and finished a round there, when we got the call that our table was ready! HOORAH!
If you're eating food at Lolita's (and not just grabbing drinks), you GOTTA sit at a table and skip the bar.
We began our journey with a grapefruit granita/icy/slush thing that was supposed to cleanse our palette. Our waiter also added a little somethin somethin that totally woke our palettes up http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
Next comes the chips. You could tell they weren't the store bought Tostitos.. and they were pretty good, especially with the FOUR different salsas they give you!
We filled up on those pretty fast as we waited for our next round of tacos..
Our waiter came back with devastating news that there might not be enough meat left because they've never had so many people get ayce (haa good job yelpers)... whaaat? NOO... The manager, however, was very accommodating and gave us a few options to mend our broken hearts
But good thing our waiter came to the rescue and said there was still chicken left. Woohoo!
Beware though, the meat is pretty spicy but they give you a lot of cheese, lettuce, and sour cream to build your own taco to your liking. I really liked that aspect of it! Plus, the little plates were really cute and I liked the presentation
For the grand finale, they bring you green apple cotton candy with pop rocks! what the?! I don't even like cotton candy, but I found myself indulging in this deliciousness. http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
We left totally stuffed and our arms tatted with "Lolita" http://www.yelp.com/biz_…. Our bellies were very happy that night
Really awesome taco deal! BUT the drinks are wicked expensive! $12 for a margarita in a scotch glass! Other than that awesome decor, really cool place to eat with friends and bartender was really nice but food service was slow. I will definitely be going again but maybe just have a coke and save the drinking for else where.
Review Source:This review covers the $7 AYCE Monday night tacos night, specifically the passport event organized by Boston Yelp ambassador, Damien. Thanks Damien for putting this together and broadcasting this deal! As my first yelp event, I had a good time meeting fellow yelpers n' professionals, hearing their stories, and I look forward in attending future events :)
For drinks, had their blackberry sangria. It didn't taste any different from a normal Sangria, not sure where the blackberry element came from, but the little fruit munchies consisting of pineapple, raspberries, and a couple of grapes complemented well and were yummy.
The set up of the AYCE was cute. There's a long wooden paddle with 2 baby iron skillets, 1 containing chicken, another beef. They're both flavored well with a little spicy kick. The end of the board contains chopped lettuce and cheese. 2 little glass cups come along containing sour cream and chopped tomatoes. Refills of hard taco shells and ingredients are brought as you run out.
AYCE tacos is a messy endeavor so get cozy. Dropping toppings on the table as you feebly try to stuff your taco, taco shells cracking so your taco is falling apart, hands getting oily from touching the sour cream/cheese. Yeap....be prepared to get rough and dirty to make the most out of yo' 7 bucks.
Quality of the tacos is alright. Not mindblowingly delicious but decently seasoned meat fillings. I left with a taco-induced food coma so that says something about it being decent enough.
If ya'll gonna have a meal, don't sit at the lounge. The short height of the table makes it difficult and the surface area is not large. Not an ideal location for conversation as Lolita is loud with patrons and music. Props to the cool vampire-esque black/red decor.
Let me start off with how much I love the decor in Lolita. Wow! Really pretty place, and despite the slightly high volume (it's Thirsty Thursday, of course it's loud), it set a great mood for my usual date partner. Our server (didn't get his name) was incredibly nice, and very competent, and none of the staff there missed a beat. It was a cool change of pace that they didn't have a strict dress code for their employees; it made it much more casual, which I appreciated.
Few gripes - the guacamole was kind of a let-down; a little too busy. I would have liked to get a bit more spicy of a salsa as well, and I don't even handle spice that well. Also, the chairs; would it have hurt them to have matching chairs? (Very minor, it just made me raise an eyebrow).
Definitely liked the pork tacos, and quesadillas were good as well. The amount of things they give you is pretty awesome as well - sorbet, chips & salsa, and cotton candy. Desserts are underwhelming, but good portions for the price - which were just a bit higher than I would expect for portion size and food quality.
I'm unable to try the tequila selection out, but will definitely have to return when I'm 21!
The food was terrible. Honestly, how do you mess up salsa? You offer three different kinds of salsa along with your basket of soggy chips...how is it possible that not even one was decent? We tried the shrimp tacos, the queso fundito, a lobster enchilada that inexplicably cost $16, and the cornbread. Everything was swimming in butter or oil. An interesting style of food, I suppose, but certainly not anything even close to Mexican food.
That said, my margarita was great, the service was fine, I enjoyed the remixed pop music and the red walls, and who doesn't like fun gimmicks like a free dry ice and tequila treat with free cotton candy for dessert?
I recommend that you go with a date, get drunk on margaritas, and share an appetizer when you're too liquored up to care about the definition of a proper quesadilla.
tldr: drinks good, food bad. real bad.
Came here for a second time on my friend's birthday . The service here is decent, but the food is mediocre at best. I've tried maybe half of their dinner menu due to my fat tendency to munch off food from my friend's plates within proximity, but nothing really stood out to me.
HOWEVER, the drinks here are YUM-YUM-YUMMMM-MEE. Don't leave here without trying their Blanco Sangria! Their White Lie and Naughty Pineapple Margarita, and their Strawberry Basil Mojito are also really good!
Came here for Cinco de Mayo 2013. I don't drink, so I usually don't participate in the major drinking holidays very much. Lolita earns major points for having mocktails. The Strawberry Basil virgin mojito was amazing. I got the Vinedo after that, I didn't like it as much.
We got FREE chips and salsa and green apple flavored cotton candy topped with pop rocks, pretty awesome.
Unique place with cool atmosphere, a little loud for the middle of the day, but whatever. It was interesting, the dining area was very country home goodness, but the lounge itself was gothic and dark. Interesting pairing!
Service was a little slow but they were crazy busy so I wasn't too surprised. I also got the pan-fried corn bread. It came with a lime on top and I was reluctant to try it, but it was amazing with a few drops of lime juice!
I will definitely come back here!
Ambiance: goth-chic....I feel like I should be a Nine inch nails fanatic meets the vampire scene....
Food: any place that makes fatty delicious meat look classy and taste like a million bucks is great. Crispy chicken tacos are out of this world!!!
Service: laid back and cool, attentive but not pushy.
Price: reasonable
Beverage: tasty, Boston pricing but big glasses!!
Pretty good. Good sangria & good margaritas. The later you go, the louder it will be, but even when it opens it is still pretty dark. Has a sensuous vibe to it. They are pretty good for accommodating groups if you call ahead. I love the mix of sauces they bring for the chips, they range from mild to hot. And I also love the cotton candy with pop-rocks at the end.
Review Source:I love this place, I probably go at least 3 times a month. I wouldn't come here for standout mexican food, because it isn't, but i would come here for drinks after work or on the weekend, with friends for a fun dinner, with a group, for a work social "meet-up", or a date. Decor is fun, mixed crowd, always a lively and good vibe.
My biggest issue is that it gets crowded on the weekends and there is limited bar space.
Try: guac, salmon, shrimp ajillo, mahi mahi tacos, shrimp tacos
Drinks are tasty - love the margaritas and the spiced apple
Went here the other night for a friend's birthday dinner. Â Overall, a solid experience.
The GOOD:
- Unique ambience
- Lots of unique touches (granita to start the meal, cotton candy at the end!)
- Lots of price points on the menu, ranging from $12 tacos to $25+ entrees
- The cocktails! So yummy. Try the spicy cucumber!!
The BAD:
- Service was a bit slow. Granted, we were a big group, but it took almost half hour for us to get our drinks
- I had the pulled pork taco, which I didn't particularly care for, but that's more of a personal taste
- Everything here seems to be tequila-based. I know it's a Mexican-inspired restaurant, so that's probably appropriate, but as someone who doesn't care for tequila, your options are a bit limited.
His: Adventurous and amazing place. Bathroom was awesome. Have fun here. No reservations with parties less than 6. Plan accordingly.
Fun/Date/Romantic
Hers: Really fun place! A little dark, but the ambiance was still very nice. Â
Food was really good - try the 3 guac dip dish for the appetizer! Â Also, the quesadilla ordered was delicious - nice crisp tortilla and perfectly melty on the inside! Â Try their mojitos too - I forget which ones we tried, but both drinks had great flavors! Â Staff was really nice! Your visit will come with 2 nice surprises as well - it's the little things that make a visit sometimes!
My girlfriend and I came here on Friday night for a late night dinner and we fell in love with everything: the atmosphere, the customer service, the food, and the drinks.
Lolita has the best mojito I have ever had. Seriously, It's the only thing I drink.
Food: Their tocino guac and their lobster/crab guac were both phenomenal and a must have for appetizers. We had the carne asada and the steak quesadilla, both of which were delicious and tender. It was a good amount of food, along with the chips and salsa. The green apple cotton candy and poprocks at the end is always fantastic!
Service: No complaints! Everyone is super friendly and helpful.
Great for girls night out!
Ambiance is fun and spicy (complete with press-on tattoos), perfect for a girls birthday celebration and when topped off with pitchers off the white lie margarita and a large circular table - a complete success.
Service was also spectacular, especially for a large group. Chips and drink glasses were always filled to the brim.
On a standalone basis, my ancho chile chicken quesadilla did not wow me, but that was hardly the basis on which the night will be judged.
Highly recommended for group celebrations!
Good for both small/large group dinners. One of my favorite spot in Boston. I would go anytime in any occasion. To start with, they have great tequila/margarita collection. Many friend of mine are huge fan of their cucumber margarita but seriously anything you choose you will be happy. If you go with a group, ordering pitcher is a good option!
For food, their fresh guacamole is AMAZING. I sometimes just order 2 guacamole and skip main. Also ceviche is a great appetizer to start. It comes with 3 different types of ceviches, tuna, mahi and lobster. For main, any Mexican dish is good but I also have to say that their stake is surprisingly good. I had once last year because my friend ordered and was well cooked and the meat quality was nice.
However, what makes lolita as a great spot is not only the food but atmosphere. Interior design, restaurant layout (they have two bars), light, music everything works perfectly for any occasion seriously. You will see couples having romantic dinner, big group birthday party, girls dinner, dinner with colleagues - they co-exist well and create this lively and happy environment. The only thing I would say though, if you want to have big group drinks or party, you can't request DJ or music, they only play their set which is not too great for me.
BOTTOM LINE: put this one on your list for the Boston and go whenever with any occasion
I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this place! Â I don't even live in Boston anymore, but I'm constantly raving about Lolita to all my friends.
Lolita is not just a place you'll stumble upon, you have to know it's there and what it is to find it. Â You really have to be part of the "in-crowd", and I like that. Â There's a very nondescript red awning outside that blends in during the daytime and is lit up at night. Â The sign that says "Lolita" is very small, and it just says that. Â It doesn't tell you what it is. Â And they don't need to worry about it because the place is always crowded. Â Especially on weekends. Â The decor here is amazing: it's very classy but it doesn't try too hard. Â Be sure to check out the lounge area in the back, it's usually less crowded and you can get faster service (especially if you're just having a drink).
While they do serve dinner, I usually come here for drinks. Â They make a mean margarita. Â There's lots of different margs to choose from. Â If you're new to margs or Lolita, try "The Lolita" - they're version of a house margarita - you can never go wrong with that. Â For those of you that are a little more adventurous, try the diablo - a spicy, red margarita. Â You may want to order a pitcher of water first! Â Oh and did I mention they serve margaritas by the pitcher? Â Great option if you're with a larger group, and it will save you same cash too.
I LOVE Lolita's!! I would describe the theme of the bar as modern, edgy Mexican. This theme is carried well through the decor, drinks, and food. The bar is quite spacious with several seating options (which I find not to often be the case in Boston establishments). The dark lighting and decor give the bar a kind of edgy, biker-chic feel. To me, this best thing about this bar is the margarita list! Lolita's has a good, standard margarita, but also several innovative options for the more adventurous. I particularly love the Naughty Pineapple and Spiced Apple. In terms of appetizers, I really like their guacamole (and I don't even like guacamole!). The Especial guacamole, with crab and lobster, is particularly ridiculous.
The bar is also located in a great location, right around the popular Newbury Street, so its a fun place to go and have a drink after a day of shopping.
We decided on Lolita for a book club dinner for which we were reading Lolita... I know, we're so clever.
This place was dark and a little sexy/weird -- not really my thing, but I can see how it would appeal to a late night drinks-only crowd. The food, however, was completely my thing. I had the garlic lime chicken (grilled chicken breast, roasted corn salsa, and crispy matchstick potatoes), and it was pretty incredible. The potatoes were a little awkward to eat, but I managed! Oh, I managed.
If I could take the food and put it in a restaurant with enough lighting to actually see the person with which I am talking, I would. And I would go there all the time.
Vampiric heaven.
From the outside, youre like, "oh, this place sucks its in a basement and its dark inside." And you're also like "why is the cobblestone so fucked up". On a Tuesday night, the place is salaaammin'. (Side note at this point: those couches that are just beyond the foyer....is not part of the waiting room?! Oh okay. I love those chairs!)
So we get seated underneath a ruby red plastic low hanging chandelier (my friend smacked it with her forehead when we got up to leave, haha. and shes not even tall, hahaha), It complimented the rusty grated walls, deep red brick accent walls, mostly red walls and some lights. Immediately (upon request of ID, of course) our waitress comes over with crushed grapefruit icees with tequila poured over it and dry ice. Refreshing, tart, sweet, ice cold. Then she comes back with chips and three different kinds of dip - the middle one which was like spicy and cold sour creamy. We started with MAD quesadillas and fried mashed potato balls. (potato balls - the worst thing we had). For our meals we ate MAD tacos. Carnitas. One diminutive word. I wish we had made room for dessert. Really. They had spectacular things on the menu. I just cant. And I just couldnt.
After we said no to dessert, the waitress brought out the now famous old man head ball of cotton candy with shady amounts of pop rocks. I dont like sour apple flavored cotton candy. Can it be cotton flavored cotton candy next time? Please. So, we get our check. and with it....TEMPORARY TATTOOS. I have to say, I've come in ten times and have never seen it once. Literally, the best part.
The only thing I really detested was the Johnny Rocket style menu aesthetic. Like long plasticky flat double sided paper with sown edges? I mean...I know Island Creek Oyster Bar and a couple of other places have it, but I give Lolita more credit...at least make it embroidered like an old school Mexican design. Duh. Â Oh and also though, the really povo napkins. Western Mass retirement home napkins. Again, go with some mexican embroidery. OR a vampire pattern. Fangs. Put fangs on it.
Delicious drinks in sexy Vamp boudoir setting! Come here and be prepared to do a lot of lounging. I really really love the white Sangria, so sweet & refreshing.
I have actually had dinner here with a group of friends and it was pretty fun even though the wait was awfully long. They made up for it by giving us free drinks. I have the chicken tacos and they were soo tasty and big portioned.
I went here with some of my girlfriends on Valentine's Day for the first time. Oh. My. God. AMAZING! The feel/atmosphere is sexy/gothic, all back lit in red with velvet wallpaper. It basically is dripping sex appeal and you feel like Bill or Eric from Trueblood are waiting around the corner to seduce you. We decided to opt for a table because the bar was completely packed.
Our waitress was incredibly attentive and when asked for her favorite drinks she gave us what seemed to be her honest opinion instead of the most expensive thing on the menu. I ended up with some sort of spicy margarita, pineapple maybe? It was absolutely delicious. We also got their chips with three salsas, my favorite was the chipotle one, which they claimed was the hottest, but I could have had it a little more spicy. The spinach quesadilla was another menu item we sampled, and it was gone in probably under ten seconds. Not only were we hungry, but it was one of the best things I've eaten in a really long time. I can only imagine that the other items on the menu must be as delicious.
The meal ended with a bunch of green apple flavored cotton candy sprinkled with pop rocks, a great end to a great meal/drinks. Our waitress gave each of us a rose as well, since it was Valentine's Day. I cannot wait to go back, drink spicy margaritas, eat chips, and desperately look for the cast of Trueblood.
Lolita: the name screams one part "sultry", one part "she'll make you dinner but homegirl does not make you breakfast." You better believe you'll be in an apron working on those banana pancakes while she snoozes.
Lined with printed mosaics and iron bars, the ambiance is dark, sexy, hip, and as Latin-vibey as you can get without looking like you're trying too hard.
This place is perfect for a few drinks, a few appetizers, some of their famed cotton candy-when-the-check-comes, and a chill time with a few friends. I've had both drinks and dinner here and have been happy with both.
Do be warned, though, the bar areas tend to get packed and you may just be yelled at as you try to find a napkin, by some douche-sack (that's bigger than a mere bag, right?) groping his way around you in search of his 6 burgers on the bar counter.
A restaurant that offers you cotton candy at the end of dinner can do no wrong, in my eyes. That might be the sugar high talking.
I really don't know why I don't come here more often...this place serves up great drinks and decent "mexican food" but let's be real here, all I really want are the chips and salsa and the tequila shaved ice they serve you first thing when you're seated.
But really, their food is actually quite decent. I've had their tacos and tried the quesadilla, as well as some of my friend's entrees. Never had anyone complain about this place. Plus, the vibe and environment are great, probably the real winner. Tad bit overpriced but what place near Newbury isnt'?
Will definitely come back.
