Ew, DON'T eat here. We met some friends here before the Bruins home opener. We had to be out by 6:30 (I DO NOT miss puck drop). We waited for a LONG time for someone to serve us and then it took another 15 min to get our drinks. I know, I know, it was busy for the Bruins game. but I never have to wait that long at the Harp and they are a thousand times busier.

Anyhoo... oh yes, DO NOT GET FOOD HERE. I don't know, maybe there was a salt shortage that night. Maybe the cooks are allergic to delicious herbs and spices and they're not allowed to have them in the kitchen. But there was NO seasoning on ANYTHING we ordered. Bruschetta? Nope, just tomatoes and mozzarella balls with bread on the side. Chicken tenders? Nope, just chicken with flour on it. French fries with a trio of dipping sauces? Naw, just cooked potatoes Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce and some mayo!

I'm going back to the Harp before games.

I had a bad time here 2 years ago but went back tonight and had a bad time again.  There were empty tables but we were told we could not sit because there were only 2 of us and the tables were for 4.  We were told 20 minutes so we waited.  20 minutes later there's still the same open tables and we still cannot sit at them.  What I found interesting was that there WAS a party of 2 men seated at a table we supposedly couldn't have.  Do they think women won't eat or drink enough to be worth seating?

Having been a fan of Porter's since the day they opened their doors, my menu choices tended to be pretty consistent: burgers, Newporter roll-up, and the Cubano (still my favorite).

But, on a bit of a health kick, I decided to order a salad before a recent Celtics game. I opted for the Cajun Chicken Spinach Salad.

The chicken was perfectly cooked, with a nice heat to the blackening seasoning. Not enough to overpower the rest of the dish, but enough to really take center-stage.

The spinach was fresh, and I loved the addition of feta (such a great pairing for spinach). Finally, the dressing was light, with a good amount of citrus to tie everything together.

While the burgers are still the main attraction on the menu, this salad did not disappoint.

We went here on New Year's eve in 2012. It was low key and the bartender was very helpful and attentive. My friend ended up getting some food which was nice. I would definitely come back here again with how low key it is.

A pretty typical bar. I went before a show at TD Garden and it was busy, but not packed.

The food was fine, but nothing spectacular. I wasn't let down by it, but given some of the reviews I went in with higher expectations and the quality didn't match those standards. That's fine, this is really just a bar to grab a burger at before an event, so if you go in with that in mind you won't be let down.

I spent $23 plus tip for a beer and fish and chips. It's a bit pricey but not exorbitant.

As Celtics season ticket holders were always looking for a good place to go before the game. Unfortunately, I work late and on the south shore, so we don't have all the time in the world. Decided to try out Porter's for a quick eat before a cold, rainy November night (read:nor'easter). We were seated pretty quickly and had a nice waitress. Sadly, they were out of the one beer I wanted. Food was fast and pretty good but not entirely what I expected. Our fish tacos were in a wrap, not tacos really. Maybe I read the description wrong. Anyway, the food was good and we left for the game on time. Only complaint is the tables were really close together in a way that made it awkward and uncomfortable to leave your seat, especially since everyone had heavy jackets with them.

So you are in an out of towner in the Bean for work near the Garden and you are getting bored.  Hanging out in your hotel got old 36.2 hours ago so you get that stroke of genius.  The kinda genius that only has been seen once before in Boston in that movie Good Will Hunting.  Thing is you might not be as sharp as Matt Damon, so you really gotta ask yourself what would Mark Walberg do.

I don't know much about him, but i seen the "Other guys" and it is pretty clear he would be ordering a Whiskey at Porter's and watching a Bruins game if that movie was based in Boston.  This is a nice bar with a pretty good stock of whiskeys for you Catholics and Protestants alike.  It has a great location, with pretty helpful staff if you aren't sure what kind of whiskey you should be ordering.  Yah it's a Boston kinda place, and one you should hit up whether you from outta town, a transplant or from the area.

Small local pub. Seats close together. Got there early before the show and the service and food was quick. Burger was simple but perfectly cooked and seasoned. Portions are generous. I would definitely go back.

This is by far one of the better sports bars around
Boston and especially in the West End / North Station area. I love going here after work to have appetizers and chill. Haven't been here on a weekend but that will probably change soon.
    Service is usually top notch.

This is a great spot for a low key night out. We came in on a late flight and were staying in the neighborhood and wandered in at around midnight on a Saturday. There was no wait, the place was full, but not packed, and we found two seats at the bar - awesome.

The crowd was casual, the bartenders were attentive and they  had a wide selection of draft beers (of course...it's Boston). We made it in too late to try the food (kitchen closes at 12) but for a watering hole this place hits the spot!

I have to tell you the unabashed truth of the people and the food that work there. The female bartender was amazing. I came in and headed straight to the back end of the bar area where there were napkins and glasses. She cleaned them right off and made an area for me to stand and have a drink. Very nice and unexpected. The couple I met there were friends of the employees and were two of the nicest people I have met in ages while just out and about. They are getting married next year and we all had a great conversation over the music that was playing up front of the bar. We could still hear each other... maybe to well. The reason being that after that couple left I was stuck talking to their friend who worked in the kitchen who was a sourpuss. When another employee or two came in and sat down we again started another nice conversation (with the new people) yet this prick of a curmudgeon (aka sourpuss) was overheard by me bashing me to this other nice employee about my political persuasion. I am sorry but I have a dislike for the occupy Boston movement and this sourcracker obviously didn't like my distain for local politics or the liberal movement to remove capitalism from the world. He was overheard several times by me bashing me to others. Just a low life weak conversationalist, kinda a plain Jane guy.

The food was amazing, I had a burger which was fantastic. The other employees were great but that other kitchen sourpuss just made me knock off a star.

This place got Big Buck Hunter and a stellar Gourmet Burger (swiss cheese, sweet roasted red peppas, and roasted balsamic onion aoili).  I always come here and get the Gourmet Burger medium rare.  It comes with a really nice bun and the meat has always been cooked to perfection.  It's melt in your mouth yumminess with the aoili.  Throw it down with a Guinness.

After my meal, I always play a game of Big Buck Hunter and hunt Moose.  Moose are big and slow, so easier to kill for me.  Everytime I go, I never see anyone else playing this awesome game, so I never have to wait!

After spending the day at the Museum of Science we walked to the area this restaurant was in and picked Porters by looks and a brief glance at the menu. I was hoping to get a little taste of local Boston since it's not on the main street across from the Garden.
I had a turkey-club wrap, that came with cranberry sauce. My boyfriend got a burger with roasted peppers on it, and his daughter got a Caesar chicken salad. We were all happy with our food and server was very friendly. Prices were reasonable.

What a hidden gem amongst the assortment of bars in the area around the garden. In a part of town that is mostly huge bars manufactued to be quaint, that have management more of that of a club, Porters is really a fantastic place.

Porters is the Causeway Street "neighborhood bar". Its really just a cool, down to earth place that has good beers and good food. Bartenders, waitresses, and the guy at the door are nice, which is a nice change of pace for the area.

Since Portland Street is one street past all of the other bars that get the most traffic, like Greatest Bar, Harp, Hurricanes etc. it really maintains a neighborhood feel.

Some local beer, some very nice shoestring fries, but the absolute WORST French onion soup I've ever had. It was so salty that I am half-wondering if there was a mistake made when they made that batch of soup. Croutons up the salt taste (they used some kind of dark bread... pumpernickel?).

I DO however like that it's a fairly quiet place to go to after work, and they don't mind me working on my laptop while I'm having a beer or three. However, I probably wouldn't venture back until I've tried a few more bars in the area.

This is one of the nicer bars in the garden area. We came a few weeks ago before a hockey east game and the place was crowded but not mobbed.

We just had drinks but I have eaten here before and the ribs as well as the burger are both fantastic.

I ordered a dirty girl scout, it was warm which I never had it that way but it was very good.

The fiancee had a few Stellas.

The bartender was quick, friendly and kept our drinks full the hour we where there despite the crowd.

This is a great place to go out, enjoy some good food, good drinks and not be surrounded by college kids.

Tired and famished after a trip to Salem one nice Sunday, we stepped outside North Station to grab some quick dinner. The whole area outside was like a ghost town, not a soul was in sight.

A short walk down Portland Street, we found Porter's, which was the only eatery open on the street. We stepped in to find some men seated at the bar but there were no other patrons.

We picked a booth and eyeballed the menu. I was craving chicken fingers/tenders, and I was so excited to find them on the menu. So, I ordered that and a buffalo chicken pizza. My friend ordered a burger medium-well.

To drink, I got a lovely hot chocolate drink with some chocolate schnapps and whipped cream (it was called a buttered ....something, darn I wish I could recollect the name!), but it was so good that I had two of those.

The service was decent and moderately fast, though it did get a little slower once people started coming in later (there was just one waitress serving 3-4 booths).

The chicken tenders really crushed my expectations, they were really chewy and not crisp enough, and the honey mustard sauce a little cloyingly sweet for my liking. However, I loved the buffalo chicken pizza, it was really spicy and delish! I would go back just for the pizza and the buttered hot chocolate drink - perfect for a chilly winter evening! One star each for the pizza and the drink and the third star is for the location, just steps away from North Station!!!

We stopped in here to get some food and drinks before the Celtics game. We went into town a few hours early so there was no wait. Their beer selection is great and everything on their menu sounded delicious. If I wasn't in for a crazy Celtics game I would have ordered a lot more food, but I decided being lethargic at the game wouldn't be such a pleasant experience. We tried their Belgian fries which were just delicious shoe string fries with three yummy sauces. We pretty much licked the sauce plate clean. Their burgers had me drooling and everyone around us seemed to love them and clean their plates.

Like the yelper below me I agree that Porters could use a few more TV's, but overall I had a good time and I would go back if I were in the area again.

Stopped in before a Celtics game on a Friday night.  Packed, but thankfully the wait wasn't too long.

Food was good, but you get a lot!  We ordered the calamari after a review here.  It was really good.  I wanted to try the Belgian Fries after reading about them too, so I ordered those and an order of boneless buffalo wings.  Hubby got a burger.  We should have passed on the fries and just eaten the ones that came with his burger because they were the same.  I wish the menu had mentioned that the "Belgian Fries" are what come with the burger.  I assumed that it was regular fries with a burger and that these Belgian Fries were a special thing.

So we ended up with way more food than we could eat.

I know this is considered a Sports Bar, but I'm thinking it needs a lot more tv's to really be a sports bar.

I stopped in before a Bruins game. Great beer selection. We tried the calamari and was surprised on the twist on the traditional approach. They were fried with a pepper batter and tossed with tomatoes and served with a spicy mayo. Loved the skinny double fried french fries. You never see tuna melts on menus these days.

I find that most places over cook burgers airing on the side of caution so I always order rarer than I like and always get it they I want it. NOT here they really listen.

It wasn't that busy but after the game there was a line to get in. I wish I didn't have to get back home to have experienced the busy bar scene.

I like Porters, I really do. My friends and I hang out there after work regularly. The food is ok and the drink selection fine.
But what I like least about it , forgive me, is using the men's room. Like they say on ESPN..."C'mon, man!" In the 21st century there aren't many places left (thankfully) that remind me of the men's rooms of my youth....you know, like the ones that old gasoline stations used to have, where cleanliness gave way to only the basic necessities. A place to enter, take care of business, and get out as fast as you can, without any unnecessary touching of surfaces.  A place that proudly says "we don't need no stinkin' ambiance!"  So my advice is: eat and drink here but find someplace else to pee. C'mon, man!

When I first arrived in Boston in July I wandered around the streets looking for a "good pub"

I have some criteria - No lines, no cover, no crappy music, good food, good service, cold beer, reasonably priced, and not lit up like a fluorescent christmas tree .

My quest was often fruitless. Many close, but no cigar kind of places. Then I found Porters :) I remember it like it was yesterday, I was still blinded by the lights of Sullivans when I heard the delightful sound of 80's music coming from somewhere on Portland Street.

Friendly bouncer (note to other bars, the coolness of your establishment does not increase exponentially with the surliness of your door staff. Sure, they have a job to do, but they don't have to be asses about it)

Not too busy inside (I know, from a business perspective a bar owner wants the place filled to the brim, but consider this for a second - quality, not quantity, hmmmmm)

Friendly barstaff, and because it wasn't too busy he actually had the time to engage. ++++++1!

I've been back a bunch of times since then and love it every visit. There was even a musician playing one time.

    Love it!

This is my spot for drinks and food before events at the Garden. The staff is super nice, everyone from the bouncers to the hostesses to the bartenders and waitresses. They have a great selection of rotating and any type of liquor you could want and expect at a regular bar.

The food here is solid, everything is consistently good and prepared well. The burgers are good, the pulled pork is really tasty (and the cubano comes with pulled pork instead of the standard slice of ham, which is awesome!), the apps are big portions and tasty, and they even have a few pizzas which are pretty good. The sandwiches all come with a huge pile of fries, a great way to start off a night of drinking at the Bruins/Celtics games.

The prices are all reasonable, probably a little cheaper than the other bars around the area. They have a bunch of TVs all with sports around the bar, and a giant projector screen which is great for watching a game.

The best part about Porters is that it doesn't get crazy packed like the other bars on Canal and Friend St. It feels like a neighborhood spot, even though a professional sporting event is about to start down the street. In fact, why am I even writing about this in the first place? I guess I just have to let other yelpers know how awesome it is!

I don't know if I would classify this place as a sports bar, but people definitely come here to catch a game. When I think of sports bars, I think of loud, abrasive, messy havens with mediocre food and not so noteworthy drinks. Porter's is NOT any of thee above. My first experience was GREAT!

I was warmly welcomed by the hostess/server when I came through the door. Not typical from my experience. My friends had snagged a bar table and we promptly ordered drinks upon my arrival. A nice big listing of all the drafts available was nestled on the wall so no straining to see what was on tap. Lots of variety! The chairs at the bar were nice and cushy and the atmosphere was so chill! The exposed brick on the back wall added character to the place.

The food was very good and reasonably priced. We shared the red bliss potatoes appetizer, which I would suggest everyone to try. Lightly battered and deep fried pieces of potato, covered in a blue cheese sauce. Mmmmmm mmmmmmm. The pulled pork sandwich, which I ordered, was good. The bbq sauce was a tad too sweet for my liking but was still very tasty. From what my friends said, the cuban was excellent and the bbq burger was delish. Everything hit the spot.

I have found my new go-to spot for a casual drink/lunch/dinner/place to watch a game....whatever you're in the mood for. It's the perfect spot!

We went to grab a quick dinner and drinks before a Bruins game.  I had been here before for drinks but this time we also grabbed a bite to eat.  (BTW, gotta get a Black and Tan beer or two!!)

Let's get to the food -

Appetizer - Fried Calamari - a bowl of tender fried calamari that had bits of basil and chopped tomatoes and nice dipping sauce that was a little like thousand island or Big Mac sauce.  This was so good that we finished this in a hurry!

Entree - Cubano Sandwich - turkey breast, pulled pork, Swiss cheese, chipotle mayo on french bread that is pressed to perfection.  This was an awesome sandwich!  I enjoyed this to the last bite.  Along with a ton of french fries to feed the neighborhood, I had enough to share with others in my party.

Entree - BBQ Boneless Wings - what the heck is a boneless wing other than a chicken tender?  These weren't bad but nothing to write home about.  Always have an issue with chicken tenders as they dry up pretty quick.  The BBQ sauce was good!

Entree - BBQ Burger - the burger was cooked medium rare as requested but needed a little bit more BBQ sauce.  Asked for more and was charged for more on the bill!!  And it came steaming hot!  Weird!!  Came with another mound of fries to share with another neighborhood.

Definitely will be back for drinks - food, only if I'm in the mood...

I didn't stay long. It was a very pleasant quick lunch.
The cute little waitress was very nice. The food was delicious.
I'd recommend their cubano sandwich to anyone who stops by for a quick lunch. The pulled pork and turkey breast were sandwiched in the flatbread with very nice combination of sauces. I wish I had more time to enjoy a full meal with drinks. Unfortunately, work was taking over my life......nothing new.

Saw this place and decided it was a nice quiet place to have pregame drinks before a night out.  I made a good choice, it was quiet with only a few people at the bar.  Came in and sat at the bar with 3 other people and the bartender was friendly and quick to get drinks for us.

2 premium shots and 2 Ketel One drinks came to $27 which I think is really good! This place is definitely cute inside and I was comfortable in the atmosphere. I will definitely be back to try some apps with my drinks some time soon!

Porters is a great place near North Station to watch a game and grab a brew. Back in 2007 they on several awards from local press.

Tucked among a row of pubs and the Onyx Hotel, Porters is a small but not cramped place and is all about location.  North Station and the Garden are one block away, making Porters a popular place during sporting events and concerts. Because of it's size, Porters can fill up quickly in game nights. TVs are up high and easy to see for those wanting to watch a game. They have trivia Tuesday nights, which is a lot of fun.

    FOOD
The food at Porters is good, not great. It is standard bar fare with traditional choices like burgers, pizza, fries, onion rings, etc. There are no signature dishes or original creations that will have people saying, "You have to go there to try their special chipotle grilled salmon" but if you want a beer or three and some bar food to go with them, Porters is a good choice.

    SERVICE
The staff at Porters are terrific. For example, my wife and I stopped here on our way to the Harpoon Brewery's summer brewfest. Instead of being miffed that we were only stopping at Porters for one or two drinks, the bartender gave us two passes for the event that saved us $30 door charge at Harpoon. We couldn't have possibly imagined that happening when we stopped for a quick drink at Porters. If the good were as good as the service, they would have easily been granted four stars i n this review.

One of my favorite dishes here is their bruschetta appetizer, which comes on deliciously grilled Italian bread. The hummus plate is also quite good.

    PRICE
Everything is reasonably priced for a location so close to the Garden. Two people can have dinner an appetizer and beer here for around $30.

    LOGISTICS
Parking can be tough unless you are lucky enough to find a metered spot but the meters are very reasonable at $1.00/hour. The street Porter's is on (Portland) is lined with metered spots, but they tend to fill up quickly on busy nights so you may need to drive around and fine parking on Canal St, Merrimac, or in a worst-case scenario you can park at the Basketball City lot and walk back.

    CONCLUSION
Porter's is a solid choice if you're near the garden. It's not as big as The Harp, but its modest size and the great service are some of the good reasons to make this a destination on game night. If you are not good at making new friends, you'll likely make one with the bartenders, as they are great.

Stopped by Porter's for the first time on Saturday night. I was surprised to be seated so quickly on a weekend 2 hours before a Celtics game. Walking from North Station to being seated at a table probably took 2 minutes. Not bad.

They have a nice beer selection. Not some 7-page menu with beers from Nepal and stuff, but a good dozen or so taps and about the same number of bottles. They had the Porter's Porter available which is their house porter and was very good. Smooth for a porter; think Guinness without the roasted barley flavor. My wife got some rum drink that I tasted which was actually nice. A good amount of booze, but not too strong.

For dinner, I ordered the Reuben Burger which is a hamburger on deli-style marble rye bread with cole slaw, swiss cheese, and Russian dressing. I was a little hesitant because, to me, Reuben = sauerkraut, not slaw. Still, I was too intrigued by the burger to pass it up. The food came as advertised and was indeed interesting. The hamburger itself was awesome. Over an inch thick and cooked to order. In fact, everything about the taste of the burger was very good. The problem was that a large, round burger on rye bread is enough of a mess already. Pile on the cole slaw and Russian dressing and now it's impossible to eat it without making a mess. While the mess is worth it, this burger would probably be the best hamburger imaginable if there's such a thing as a rye hamburger roll it could be put on.

The burger came with fries which were not the best. Shoestring fries with no seasoning of any type, including salt.  A little soggy too. This explained to me why Belgian-style fries were available as a $7 appetizer. My wife got the fish and chips which had the same fries, but the fish looked good. Lightly fried, large pieces of cod.

Overall, my experience at Porter's was a good one. We got in just before the pre-game rush hit, but the service stayed speedy throughout and the place didn't get too crowded. The atmosphere was actually nice for a North Station pub. Not so chic that you feel out of place wearing sports clothes, but clean and nice-looking.

If you're looking for the best meal of your life, your quest will probably have to continue after a visit to Porter's. If you want a solid pub-type meal before a game at the Garden, Porter's fits the bill.

Met friend @gradontripp there for lunch thanks to the magic of Foursquare letting us know we were close to each other while in town.

Atmosphere was nice - just the right combination of run-down, lived-in pub feel with cleanliness and friendly staff. The bartenders were super efficient without being pushy - a nice trait.

Loads of whiskey to choose from and a perfect Guinness pour, making this part Irish girl very happy. I stuck with Guinness for lunch but made a note that it was a decent stop for whiskey as well. No Midleton's Very Rare though - too bad. That's a favorite.

I had the Turkey Wrap to go with my Guinness. The fries were fantastic - perfectly crisped and seasoned shoetring sized fries - no sog-bottom here. they even  made sure the pickle was not touching sandwich or fries - a nice touch. The sandwich was loaded with cheesy, melty goodness but nothing extraordinary. It came with random sides of mayo and an odd cranberry jelly sauce, which I tasted but ended up ignoring.

Gradon had the Cubano and an Ale, and we were having so much fun talking I forgot to ask him how it was! I'm guessing by the clean plate that he enjoyed it. Hopefully he'll write a companion Yelp review to let us know.  Add in that two people were able to enjoy lunch for under $40 with sandwiches and drinks - a plus.

Other notes: there was music going, but not at excruciating levels. The televisions were on, but not at an angle you could easily see at the bar, which was fine for conversation. In walking distance of the Tip O'Neill Building and TD Bank Garden (or whatever it's called these days). Loads of parking garages and street parking around.

    I'll definitely go back.

I ordered the "pizza burger". No good. Plain burger with some marinara cheese and pepperoni thrown on it.  My boyfriend ordered the chicken ranch pizza that he said was absolutely great and continued to rave about it while i looked at my meal in disgust, haha. I should have sent it back but i just settled for eating some chicken fingers at the Celtics game (which totally won out on the "pizza" burger). The fries here are kinda smushy with that rough texture on the outside. Again, my bf didn't mind (he eats anything).

Our server was friendly enough and the service was semi-prompt. the atmosphere is low-key, kid-friendly (oddly enough) and cozy. i think i would try this place again with a safer meal choice. JUST DONT GET THE STUPID PIZZA BURGER

Last Saturday I was on my way to McGann's to catch the  English Premier League soccer game between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Unfortunately McGann's was not open. What the heck!?

Fortunately for me, Porter's was open. What a fantastic staff of people they have there. The bartender was friendly, curtious and good to talk to.   Sat myself down and ordered a Guinness, the perfect pour by the way and ordered a Cubano Sandwich. A taste of heaven mixed with a touch of poetic license, this Cubano was   one of the best I have had accompanied by perfectly done shoe string size fries.

While I was sad not to catch the game, I was more than happy to be treated to such great food, drink and service...and my team lost anyways.

Check out Porters on Portland Street by the Boston Garden.

Discovered this place after drinking through the North Station area, and Sully's was closed early and McGann's too. This place isn't a bad option if you want to keep drinking after the last train leaves Boston.

It's big enough and not crowded so you can bring a group of people and pretty much take over the place.

The only gripe was the bartenders weren't the nicest, and the music was actually really soft. Other than that, this isn't a bad option if you're looking for a place that's quite the opposite from the club scenes nearby.

I was so excited to go in there on a Saturday night and not find it jam packed with college kids.  It was full, but not too full.  The music wasn't so loud that I couldn't talk with my boyfriend.  We had such a great time there we stayed for 5 hours!

The food is great pub food that has more taste than grease.  And when I asked for a oatmeal cookie shot and the bartender informed me that he didn't have one of the liquors, he turned around, whipped something up and gave it to us.  Uh, yeah, whatever he made was so much better than an oatmeal cookie shot.  Bravo to you sir, bravo.

I used to work in the neighborhood and therefore frequented all the local pubs on a regular basis for both lunch and after-work drinks. Nothing on the menu or behind the bar will wow you, but everything is pretty decent. The biggest draw of Porters (and the thing that keeps me coming back) is that it is a much more low-key place to go for a beer.

Porters isn't a tourist destination, isn't a hot-spot for college kids, doesn't blast music, and is just as happy serving the after-work accountants in suits as they are the contractors in work boots. If you go regularly you'll find most of the staff remains the same. I almost always make a stop here any time that I come in to Boston via the North Station area.

While not a great fan of pub food, I love this place because it doesn't get as packed as everything else in the area and the service is great.

    Okay beer selection.

The potatoes with bluecheese is my favorite and a great choice for lunch among a limited selection in the area.

Drawn in by Jae L.'s review, myself and some fellow RPI veterans had to see for ourselves whether or not the wings here truly bore comparison to the ones from Sutter's in Troy (for those of you not lucky enough to have visited Troy, New York, picture all the nice, turn of the century parts of Boston, allowed to rot and overrun by drug dealers.  Sutter's (now The Ruck) was a mining-themed (yes, you read that right) dive bar downtown, with a rough-hewn, wooden interior built into an otherwise normal structure).

So, anyway, it was a long, hungry sojourn on an unusually slow green line train, and we were a little skeptical at paying $8 for them, but you know what?  Their wings really are very good.  That's all we had, but that's what we came for.  Very meaty, flavorful, but not ridiculously hot.  Of course, i'm not sure i'd jump to comparing them with my college favorite.  After all, i paid nearly 1000% more for these.  But they're darned good.

As for the rest, it's a comfortable place that was strangely quiet on a Friday night (no basketball or hockey, but they did have a sign out front welcoming traffic from High School Musical On Ice, which stranger still actually generated some business with the Disney set).  They pour a perfectly decent Guinness, and even had a house beer on tap (a porter, natch) which was tasty.

In short, not sure i'd haul myself there from Newton on a regular basis, but if i'm in the neighborhood, i'll totally get some more wings.

I've had the wings and beer here.  Both great. The wings were not the skinny little wings with some crazy wierd things that are growing on them and looking all demented from a bout of mad chikn...but big and jumbo sized, crispy and good. With the special sauce from sutters from back in the DAY!!

If you have no idea what i'm talking about you might want to try what I consider the ultimate experience in eating wings.  Unless you have a time machine able to take you back to sutters in troy, NY
