I've gone to Pour House countless times over the course of 4 years (college). It's one of my favorite places to go hang out before a concert at Berklee, or just to relax after work.

    Pros:
Wednesdays = 1/2 priced chicken sandwich + fries
    Thursdays = 1/2 priced Mexican
    Saturdays = 1/2 priced burgers + fries

The booths are small and the speakers are always too loud, and milling around while trying to spot any sign of a free booth gets old some times, but what can you expect? It's one of the busiest bars in the area. Weekends are the most busy, so prepare to push through an entire floor of people to get to an even more crowded basement!

I love them for their cheap prices, and the food is really good. Can't wait to visit Boston again and come here for the brunch!

I'm a pretty big fan of the Pour House. Good bar/restaurant where they serve beer in pretty substantial mugs for pretty cheap, given the amount of beer you get. I've eaten the nachos here before, they are pretty substantial, I shared them with a friend and we didn't even finish them and I have been with friends who had other apps like the potato skins which they really liked. The service is good and the atmosphere can get loud, but it's not horrible, pretty typical for a popular bar. There is usually a line to get in on weekend nights but it moves at a good pace since there is also a downstairs bar which is a chill area.

Went here on a Friday night after a Sox game. The food is typical pub/bar fare but portions were huge and prices were very reasonable. My husband and I got an appetizer, 2 entrees, two 22 ounce summer ales, 2 bottled beers, and two mixed drinks all for $65. This is unheard of where I come from (NY). To top it off, our waitress was friendly and even offered us a free shot since she poured one too many. I will definitely re-visit this place when I return to Boston! All in all a great find, my only gripe was that there was a drunk couple making out in the booth behind us and no one said anything to them. It was ongoing for at least a half hour.

Your bar smells like urine. It's gross.

The Pour House is an excellent place to go for HUGE beers and some decent affordable grub. The menu is great for bar food but please note this is not a fine dining establishment. (You can see the microwave in the kitchen from the bar) That having been said, I don't care if they use a microwave because the end result is decent food that hits the spot. The daily specials are very easy on the wallet. (Terriyaki Burger and Fries for $6.99 or Burger with a mug of Clam Chowder for $5) Seriously, you won't find a better deal in the Back Bay. The service here is very friendly. The Pour House is very busy at night and they know how to handle the influx of hungry tourists and sports fans. I discovered this place shortly after the Boston Bombing and the energy and spirit were so fantastic. This place is my favorite hang out in the Back Bay now.

BEST BRUNCH EVER!! Banana pancakes are to die for, hash browns-seasoned to perfection, sausage and bacon are great. Mimosas-mmm.  Staff is friendly, and attentive. The TV's play all sports-which is great.

Only thing is it's small-the booths, the bathrooms, and it's not well lit.  Otherwise it would get 5 stars for breakfast. I've never eaten lunch nor dinner here.

When I lived in Boston I would eat here every Thursday for half price Mexican food and every Saturday for half price burgers. For the Mexican I would order the chimichanga, it's not traditional Mexican but for the price you can't beat it. On burger night I would get the Texas burger. It's huge but amazing. Beer is cheep and atmosphere is fun.

Pour House is one of the best bars in Boston. The atmosphere is great for going with friends whether its to have drinks or eat. They have ~$5 24oz beers in frosted mugs, and their specials are unrivaled. I recommend heading over on Saturday for half priced burgers!

Really very bad food. Mediocre service and smells of ass. But it is cheap so you get more really bad food for your money. I guess that's value somewhere. Convenient location.

Fun atmosphere, cheap beer and food.

Came here to meet with friends after work for a few beers.  The mugs are enormous and icy cold.

Starving so I had to get a bite.. when I'm at a bar drinking beer.. I always want fried food. Ugh.  Chicken fingers and fries please.  I don't know what they season the fries with but they are sooooooooo good. I wanted more but of course I had to stop myself.  Chicken fingers are good too.

When the opportunity presented itself to try out Pour House for my friend's 21st birthday, I was ready for it. I had heard a lot of good things about Pour House's nachos from yelp and a few random people so I was pretty darned excited. This review is going to be mostly on the nachos since that's the bulk of my memory.

They weren't the most aesthetically appealing nachos mainly due to the way the ingredients were placed and the chips didn't seem home made, but two bites in, we were all hooked. It wasn't as big as the Sunset Cantina/ Grill and Tap behemoth, but it was also quite a bit cheaper ($8 compared to $13). The chili, guac, cheese, and pretty much everything on the plate was delicious. The quality and taste of the ingredients definitely outstripped Sunset's. The only setback was the most-likely-not-homemade tortilla chips. I prefer the hot, thin, freshly chips so the thick mass produced chip style sort of took away from the overall rating. Also, only having the chili on top made it run out a little too quickly (since it was delicious), but other than that, the layering/distribution was awesome. Even when we reached the bottom of the plate, every chip had cheese and toppings, and we didn't need to deal with the typical soggy mess that comes with ordering nachos. Other menu items were also pretty cheap and definitely above the standard pub-fare.

Drinks were decent as well. They have a limited cocktail menu, but the ones that they had were enjoyable and had a good mix of liquor: juice ratio. I'll definitely be back after I've finished exploring the rest of Boston's nachos.

Came here twice for breakfast during Anime Boston.

Pros: The place is very quirky and I love all the creativity in the place. They have music and a game on, which I like. The waitresses are friendly and attentive, without being overbearing. The food was delicious. My omlet was cooked perfectly and I love that instead of bacon bits in my omlet, I got full slices of bacon in the middle...it was awesome, awesomely delicious. It was across the street from the convention, which was perfect. Prices were decent especially for Boston.

Cons: It is a small place (I'd call it cozy, it wasn't uncomfortably small), and the bathrooms even smaller (the bathrooms were claustrophically small!! And filthy!!) , but such is Boston. The toast came totally dry, and the butter was no place to be found. The second time we came we told them to butter it and it was fine.

All in all they get 4 stars from me. Will probably eat here tomorrow too :)

Giant beers at cheap pint prices. Chicken nachos are also huge but not as great as everyone says. Lots of chips and not much else for the last few layers. Happy bartenders make the place fun. Good, inexpensive food in an area that has lots of over priced restaurants.

what a fucking dump.  i tried to have breakfast here on saturday morning.  the service was so slow and when i finally got coffee i asked for a spoon to stir the sugar.  then i ordered an egg white omelette and told the server i'm gluten-free.  she said the potatoes are pre-emade (frozen) and could not be made gluten-free, and they "don't have" egg whites, only egg beaters, so i said i was leaving.  she then said i had to pay for my coffee.  i said "you mean the coffee i couldn't drink because i never got a spoon to stir it?  i'm not paying for that," and walked out.

I wish I'd had this place in college.

It's dirty, dingy, and the price is right.  I'd been here once before and was rightfully cut-off when I tried to order another round of tequila shots (you can take the girl out of college, but you can't take the college out of the girl), so this time tried it out for brunch.  It was busy, so my friend and I sat at the bar and had 2 orders of chicken n waffles and bloody marys.  The bloodys were big, traditional, and delicious, the chicken was fried up just right, but the waffle was dry and burnt.  I'll definitely go again though, because our bill was still under $25... a steal for Boston brunch!  Next time I'll jump for an omelette.

Excellent all around. The clam chowder was good and the fish and chips were very good. For some reason, as soon as I got into the fish and chips, I felt extremely full which is odd but it happens. I wish it didn't because I would've like to have finished my meal but I couldn't go any further. Really good place and good portions too. Highly recommend.

Yelp cliche #4 - Seriously, I haven't reviewed this place yet?!

There are two things you need to know about The Pour House: nachos and beer

I will start with the latter.  They serve their beers in huge mugs.  As many others have mentioned, there are always a few that are $5.  Their other drafts aren't horrible, but you aren't coming here for the beer selection.  You are only coming here to drink as much beer as possible in a short time period.

This brings me to the second point: the nachos.  These guys are phenomenal.  There is cheese layered throughout a mountain of chips.  Seriously, look at the pictures.  Yes, if you get any meat you will get meat cascading down half of the pile while beans cover the other half, but you should be able to live with this.  A friend and I split the nachos after multiple beers the other night and were sad about our nacho performance.  I ended up taking them home because I refused to throw out that much food.  I weighed them when I came home: two pounds.  That's two pounds of leftover nacho goodness.  Aye.

Out of all the Boylston Street bars, this is by far my favorite.

(Other honorable mentions for "things you should know about Pour House":
Go downstairs.  It is almost always less crowded and a better scene.
Their mixed drinks are strong.  No, they aren't cocktails.  They are mixed drinks.  And at about $7 for a vodka soda, a $25 bar tab will more than do you in for the night.
    They have sweet potato tots.
I've never been for brunch, but they serve pumpkin pie pancakes.  I need to go.
Their food in general is better than other bar food in the area.
Blood Mary's are also served in the huge mugs for $5.
If you are there early in the night, the downstairs screen plays weird music videos.
Week night and non-peak times are actually great music.
There are a lot of odd decorations.  Look at the ceiling.)

My rating is based on the food only! The food is great and cheap but the service is horrible! I have been to this place multiple times and have YET to have a friendly attentive waitress. I work in the food business myself and I think they're extremely unprofessional and rude.

If you don't mind having to chase around a waiter to get you silverwear, refill your drink, or ask for condiments then I'm sure you won't mind this place one bit.

Syracuse alumni owns the place I believe. We gather here to watch CUSE games. I just wish the place was bigger! Always busy- so you know it's good. They have special deals, like $3 burgers (with fries!) on certain nights. If there is a game on, get there earrrrlllllly. Huge glasses of beer for regular price.

At night this place is packed and a little difficult to get around. If you see a table, grab it, and never leave. If not, it's not that bad if you can find a corner with your friends. However the main attraction, at least for me, is brunch. A seat yourself operation where you don't have one server but you have the whole waitstaff checking out the area to see who needs to put in their order, get more water/coffee, more napkins, etc.

So wait, why do I love the brunch so much? Bloody Mary's the size of a quart. Juevos Rancheros that are so, so, so good the knock your socks off. The coffee is pretty damn good and the atmosphere overall is just enjoyable. It's one of those unique, could be a music venue at night sort of places that isn't. It's just decorated really interestingly and puts me in a good mood.

Every time I am in Boston I make it a point to go here.

One of my favorite bars in Boston just because it's cheap. I used to come here for lunch before I could legally drink, and I LOVED the mac & cheese and caesar salads. They have great deals that make it even more affordable.
Once I turned 21, I came here with friends a few times and found it overwhelmingly loud and crowded. I guess I'm not really a bar person for that reason. I would avoid coming here on weekend nights, but would definitely recommend it during off-hours.

This has become a regular stop for us when we are in Boston. Really fun atmosphere, always friendly staff, consistent food from a menu that absolutely wasn't written with your health in mind.

Seriously, if you have heart disease or a history of it in your family, you probably shouldn't open the door. I mean, I do...but....you know...

We go for brunch a lot and their bloody mary's are not to be missed. You can't because they are the size of your face. Really, with the booze and the grease, this place is a hangover cure gift wrapped.

So, let me say this. I was afraid to go here because I was imagining a divey bar with a lot of college students but actually I was surprised that the crowd was a mix. I was a bit perplexed by the crowd actually and couldn't quite pinpoint the average person who attends Pour House -- hipster to college to middle age to preppy. So, that was nice.

The bar is a full bar but I wasn't impressed w their knowledge of drinks - I asked for a moscow mule and he definitely had no clue what I was talking about so I said, "do you have ginger beer?", nope! Maybe it is just me but I just thought this was a basic drink. I suggest you order a pretty basic mixed drink if you go here but then again I suppose this is more of a beer type of bar. Oh well. Coca cola it was.

A friend and I came here solely for the nachos as we continue our quest to find the best nachos. The nachos were large -- we got the grande nachos that came w/chili and beans. However, there was some nacho segregation! Instead of the chili and beans both being spread across the nachos, each was on one half. Wtf?! stop the segregation! I want everything, topping and person to come together - including my beans and chili. The flavor was good but here is the downside of the nachos -- lots of soggy nachos, lots of having to sort of construct my nachos and no guacamole. But, there was a lot of nachos so they can easily be shared by 3 people but by the time you get to the bottom layers they may be soggy or all stuck together.

Despite the bartender's lack of knowledge of my beloved moscow mule, I will say he was pleasant and friendly and even offered to take a photo of us w/our nachos after seeing us snap a pic of them when they were served. A good bartender really improves the overall experience.

Finally, the playlist was great. I heard Nsync! I thought I was in middle school again...next up - Incubus! One of my all time favorite bands. Definitely eclectic and fun music.

One bad thing about this place is it is seat yourself so it is a beat of a free for all with people lingering around like vulchers waiting to snag a seat. Yes, I am guilty, I was that person. So, be prepared to wait and throw elbows trying to get a spot on a Friday.

My friend loves the Pour House for their Saturday night half price burgers. As someone who doesn't eat burgers, I've never partaken. But they do have a filling $4 mac and cheese, so I don't mind coming out for the half off burger night. I know they have a couple of other specials during the week, but I've never been for those. Drinks are average priced and the service is good, though on a busy night it can be a challenge to get a table. I've been here in the fall and in the winter and both times it was pretty cold inside, so you might need to leave your coat on. All in all, a nice low-key experience.

I could be a snob about Pour House. Because Pour House is a bar so dive that it even has a funny-smelling basement.  So snub it as YOU see fit, but do remember that a decent meal at Pour House won't land you in the poorhouse.

My Wisconsin burger came with a puny patty and copious crumbles of bleu cheese that outnumber the crumbles of beef in the patty. The tiny slice of lettuce was sadly wilted but I just picked it off. What kind of a person gets a burger for the lettuce? And what kind of a person complains about a burger that's half off? $3 for a burger AND a side of the best straight-up French fries I've had in months? Plus $6 for a 22 oz. of Sam Adams or UFO white on tap? SOLD.

One of my favorite "go to" bars in town. Great beer, great staff and decent food. While spending much of my college years in town, the majority of my nights, I could always be found here! Prices are pretty cheap and the bartenders don't make too bad of a drink. When ever I visit I have always gotten fantastic service from the bartenders. The Pour House has two floors. The first floor is the entry level and the downstairs is, in my opinion, the best spot!

Great place to put down a few drinks with some friends, celebrate St. Paddy's Day, and was an amazing place on that memorable October night in 2004!

This was a great find on Boyleton.  We were looking around the city for another bunch place because its our favorite meal and you always need to have a list of great places to go.  It was open Friday Morning when most of our brunch places were closed so that made our day! My friancee ordered the Piggie which was a ton of food! They mean it- PIGGIE! I had the french toast and it was amazing!  The coffee is pretty good here but it gives me a funny after taste if I have more than one cup. The prices are amazing! Super cheap!

Ah, the Pour House. If you are specifically craving nachos (which I always am), this is the place to go. It's not badly priced, there's an okay selection of beer, and the nachos are piled high-- the way I like it! Not necessarily a place you would go on a date... But maybe a place to meet some friends that want to chow down on bar food. It's a little on the dirtier side, which isn't a problem to me, but I can see how there are negatives reviews.

I also ventured over for brunch. Their bloody mary's are potent and their brunch menu is pretty greasy. Again, this is more of a after a long night/craving unhealthy food place.

Okay, Pour House. It's a Saturday night. After a prolonged and idiotic lockout, us five blue-ballsed Bruins fans are gathering at your institution to yell and drink and cheer for the return of hockey. But ... there's a problem. Instead of the docile tones of Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley pumping through the speakers, we're hearing a mixture of "New Jack" swing and early-00's R&B hits, apparently off a playlist made by Wesley Snipes' star-struck parole officer.

You don't want to put the game audio on? That's fine, I guess. I don't really get it. I mean, hell, it's Boston. We care way, way, way too much about our teams - but that's what makes us great and everything. But you don't want to put the audio on? Fine. That's your right. You can do whatever you want to do, as dumbasstic as it might be.

But what wasn't cool? How about the bouncer / manager - the one who looks suspiciously like one of the minor villains Jason Statham would beat the shit out of in a B-grade action movie - coming over and sneering "Audio's not going on, guys!" at all of us, after we'd asked the very hard-working and nice bartender if the sound for the game was going to come on. That was really the height of douchebaggery, dude. If you hadn't said that, we might have shrugged, said "Fuck it," and stayed to watch and drink through the rest of the Kriss Kross / Bell Biv DeVoe tribute hour.

That shit was the last straw. Luckily, McGreevy's - the place right next to Pour House - apparently had figured out that Boston people like their sports, and was pumping the game loud and clear through their own speakers. We gladly spent all the money we would have spent at your place over there. Your loss.

Good luck getting any of us to ever come in again. Although, I will say, the experience did give me the opportunity to use the phrase "dumbasstic" in print. So, thanks for that, I guess.

Food is still cheap as hell. Came here for their Thursday 1/2 off Mexican dish deal. All their chimichangas, soft tacos, burrito, etc come with an additional side of rice and beans. It's a lot of food for $4. Definitely a quantity over quality sort of place.

Warning: Pour House isn't where you should be expecting quality service though. They all have serious attitudes for no reason. Why? I have no idea. But again, it's cheap.

Decent, lively bar with awesome food specials. My whole table ordered the dippers sample, a choice of three different sliders served with fries for only $3.99. By the time we ordered dinner (9:30) they were out of a lot of the different sliders. Dinner definitely wasn't amazing, but it was well worth the price tag and good for bar food.

We shared  the 24 wing platter, which was well worth the ten dollar price tag. A variety of flavors and crisped to wing-perfection!

    It's a good spot, I'd go back.

Tight, crowded, and generally pretty grimy.

    There's cheap beer though.

Pourhouse is kind of like all the bars along boylston (minus a few exceptions like globe). They are really not worth going to but somehow you have that friend of a friend who pulls you here and you end up there for the night.

You wake up the next morning and say to your friends that place was miserable, never going there again.....Only until some how you do. And the night is just as dull.

Plenty of better options around like clerys, brownstones, globe, champs etc... Dont waste your time in this place.

Whoever hates on pour house is a moron. I'm sorry. This is THE COOLEST dive bar in the city...but it's a dive bar. It's not a 5 star celebrity chef restaurant. It's a place to go and hang out and drink tall beers and stuff your face with cheap food, which btw is absolutely delicious for what it is!
The service is spectacular. Jess, Brenda, Vickie and all the girls are phenomenal bartenders.
It does tend to turn into a shitshow on the weekends, so proceed with caution.

Oh and the best part is the hot dogs. Nothing is better than a yummy dog at 1 am after a night of drinking.

Calling all hungry college students on a budget!
~$3 for a good burger and deliciously seasoned fries? I'M DOWN.
Come here on Saturdays when they have half off burgers from 6-10pm.
I went this past weekend around 7:30 and there was no wait. You seat yourself, so don't wait for someone to give you a table.

They have a pretty large selection of burgers with different toppings that all seemed to be named after states.
I got the one with cheese and bacon (Pennsylvania I think??) and the bacon was so crispy and delicious! They give you enough lettuce/tomato so that it's substantial but not flowing out of your burger and spilling everywhere.
They also have double (NY) and even triple burgers (Texas) too for those of you who come hungry or want a challenge. 2 friends finished the Texas burger, which has 3 1/4 pound patties, fries, and tortilla chips.
We tried their sweet potato tater tots too, which weren't as good as their huge mound of fries that comes with each order, but it gave a nice variety.

Even a glass of beer will be more expensive than your burger!

I will definitely be back here, maybe to try some of their other specials.

    *They start carding at 9pm

Three things make The Pour House great:

    1) Food Specials: Wednesday Night 1/2 Priced Chicken Sandwiches, Thursday Night 1/2 priced Mexican, Saturday Nigh 1/2 priced burgers

    2) Brunch: $6 for huevos rancheros, do I really need to say anything else?

    3) Beer at affordable prices

Enter the pour house knowing what you are after and they will deliver. Go in with desires for luxury and you will be disappointed

I was out in Boston for a conference and this place is located conveniently directly across the street from the Hynes Convention Center. Pretty cool local baaaww. Good service overall and a decent selection of beers on tap. Didn't get a chance to eat there so I can't say much about the food. The drinks were pretty standard and the bartenders were attentive and talkative. Given that we stopped by on Saturday afternoon so it wasn't too busy.

We also came back on a Tuesday night and it was pretty packed... but we brought in about 3/4 of the place. The bartenders seem to get everything right and there was no line to hold us back. Very fast service and a good local spot for a casual beer. Recommended!
