Here is a tip for managements - lose the wait staff they not adding value especially when you have to actively seek them out. For some reason it appears to be more fun hanging around the kitchen/bar area while patrons on the other side are out for sight and apparently out of mind.
Please DO something about trying to improve the service!!! It's generally acceptable to wait staff to walk around every so often to survey the dining area... Simple, at least I thought so until 2 recent visits...

The trick here is to avoid going there on BU infested nights. Â Went on a Sunday night, so it was a much more relaxed bar atmosphere.
This place, surprisingly, delivered on these 4 fronts.
Do you like watching sports on big screens? Â Check.
Do you need to eat dinner after playing rugby? Â Check.
Do you want to sample some local beer from the Cape? Â Check.
Do you want to meet up with people before a concert? Check.
It didn't deliver on the food.. but why would you come here for that? Â My friend's burger was overcooked so she just ate all the chips and dip and french fries. Â
I would come back for drinks but easily skip this place if it looked like a frat house.
With a night at Paradise Rock Club awaiting us, Eric and I needed a quick dinner to give us the energy to power through the throngs of people wanting a good spot.
"Oh, greasy bar food" we exclaimed with joy and anticipation.
"Oh, a trashy dive with food cooked with love and affection," we hoped.
Nope. Just bad.
If I wanted to watch 19 year old BU students drink cheap beer, I would have gone to a frat party.
The mac and cheese was probably lacking cheese (and any discernible flavor).
The pesto chicken pasta was... erm... there. On a plate.
One star for remembering to pay their electricity bill.
One star for the exceptional view of boys running in tights along Comm Ave.
Green Rolling Rock glasses and cheap pitchers along with the entire BU alum? Â Hell yeah! Â This is a great college bar right in the Alston/BU area where most of the students come after their hockey games and for most of their sports needs. Â The fun starts when someone texts in some nasty words to the ceiling fan text service that illuminates that message for a small fee of $.25 per message. Â I don't know if we were the only ones who noticed, but it soon stopped displaying a message and we figured it was us. Â We had our fun, drank our drinks, watched some sports, and had a great time overall. Â The DJ was okay, although all bars blare music so you have to yell to the person next to you.

You don't come for the service or the food (trust me). but for happy hour onwards, just what you need. Every sport on every TV, cheap beers, great music, people having fun.
Despite working right down the street from here (and 973 Commonwealth as it used to be called) for 3 years, today was my first time in. The place was empty for lunch and I was alone so I sat at the bar. Â The bartender came over quickly and got me a water. She suggested the buffalo chicken wrap - sounded good to me. It came out in about 10 minutes.
The wrap was very good. Â You have your choice of grilled or fried chicken - I went with fried. It also had nice romaine lettuce, tomato, and blue cheese dressing. Â I thought it was pretty mild buffalo, but it was good. Â The fries were very good too, although I prefer mine a little crispier.
Where sandwiches can easily set you back $7-8 at a fast food/takeout place, I thought my wrap with fries for $9.50 (before tip) was a pretty good deal. Â Service was good and the place seemed clean. Now that I've been in I definitely plan to go back.
Ok, I just came back from T's and I feel kinda dirty. Here's why...first, terrible service tonight. The place wasn't crowded at all and it took forever to order, get our food, wave down an extra set of silverware, etc. The waitresses would walk by, but not make eye contact or respond to saying "excuse me". Ok, slow service happens at mediocre bars. Why so hard on them? Because they super over charged us... for pretty much everything. Tonight was $2 pizza night, but we got charged $7. Ok, it happens. When we told the waitress she said, "Oh, right, it should be $3". Huh? The menu and all the signs clearly say $2. Hmmm... This made us take a second look.
Upon closer inspection, we found that we also got charged $1 more for every sandwich we ordered. After trying 500 times to flag down our waitress, we finally sent someone up to the wait station and she said, "Oh, we're going to change our menu, and our computers already updated." So you've been knowingly charging everyone more than the price on the menu and not fixing it unless people complain? Sketchy. Adding a few extra dollars here and there over the course of the day or week adds up. Poor form. A good business should be really conscious of synching their menu with the computers, because it left me feeling like they were taking advantage of me and trying to pull a fast one. Definitely lands them on my poo-poo list.
Would be only one star, but I gave them a star for having Old Bay. Maryland pride.
A survey question asking if T's has TV's would be like asking if Five Guys has potatoes. I counted FOURTEEN TV's going last night. Â You had your choice of baseball, basketball, golf, and olympic trials.
They have better-than-expected pub food - burgers, turkey burgers, pulled pork, chicken fingers, wings, nachos, etc. I've never had a problem asking for a substitute like cole slaw instead of fries. If you don't want something grilled or fried, they also have several large and well-made salads on the menu. Service is attentive.
Specialty nights are fun. Trivia on Thursdays is very challenging, but well worth it if you money.
Hubs and I came in on a Thursday night to meet a friend of ours. Â We were both coming straight from work so we were hungry and decided to get dinner there while waiting for our friend.
Throw into the mix that we had to ride on an un-airconditioned Green Line train, our server knew why we looked so miserable and served us with water once we were seated (after we figured out tables were seat-yourself). Â Hubs ordered a bacon cheeseburger. Â I wanted the Southwest burger -- pico, chipotle mayo, pepperjack cheese -- but only with chicken instead of the burger. Â I asked our server if this was possible and without hesitation she said, "Absolutely, no problem." Â Perfect. Â Well, it was no more than 15 minutes when our food came out. Â Fries were crispy and hot. Â Hubs enjoyed his burger and my chicken sandwich was ridiculously good with just enough spice. Â Not enough to burn your taste buds, but just enough kick. Â And for $9, the quality and quantity outmatched the price. Â Our server wasn't great at keeping drinks refilled, but she was working all the dining tables in the area and did the best she could. Â Plus, she was super friendly. Â
After our meal was over, Hubs explained how he came to T's back in college (ahhh to be young again...) and during Red Sox games, T's offered $1 hotdogs. Â The server just nodded her head and said, "Yeah, we still have that." Â So if you don't want to pay Red Sox ticket prices (and who does?) just come to T's pub and grab a seat in front of their 12-foot projection screen, grab a few beers or a pitcher, and proceed to munch on some $1 hotdogs. Â You can get the same game-watching experience of Fenway with better service and a cheaper price tag.
My friend and I decided to stop here for some dinner before a show at Paradise tonight. Â Upon walking in, we stood at the host stand like fools and waited to be seated. Â Apparently the rule here is that you can seat yourself, which the two waitresses failed to mention to us even though they saw us standing there looking around. Â After five minutes, I walked over to a waitress and asked if we could sit anywhere. Â She replied as if we were dumb and we chose a table.
After a few minutes, she came over and took our drink order which was a bottled beer and a soda. Â We got our drinks and waited a good 10 minutes before being able to put in our food order. Â She came over and said, "So are you guys ordering food or...?" Â No, we just decided to sip some sodas and watch the ball game with our menus open. Â The food came in no time and was very good. Â However, halfway through my meal my knife launched off the table. Â I would have asked for another one, but our waitress was nowhere to be found for the rest of the night and the other waitress was waiting on a party of 30. Â In the meantime, my friend's mouth was burning on her buffalo tenders and she couldn't get a drink refill. Â We had to be at the Paradise in 15 minutes (mind you, we walked in the door an hour and a half before we needed to be there) and had to ask the other waitress for our check and she was just SO happy to help! Â Didn't get our check for almost another 10 minutes and then had to wait another 5 for her to come get our card.
Wouldn't return here again unless the staff gets an upgrade!
Bleh. Â Their beer lines are sour, the help doesn't really give a fudge about you, and the food is horrifyingly sub-par. It's apparently the place to quaff down beers before you see a show next door, from what little I gathered from the conversations of other patrons. Â The only pluses here are the fringe benefits - buck hunter, golden tee, and Direct TV baseball/football packages.
On the whole, however, I would not go back to this hole.

Sometimes you walk into an establishment, look around, see it's dead, and belly up to the bar. Sometimes, the bartender is texting, or acting bored. This was not the case here at T's pub, this Monday night, 9/5/11 Danny, our bartender, has to be one of the best in Boston. Why? He was personable, engaging, and always had a smile on his face. He served our 25 cent wings with style and flair. In addition, he was actually interested in what myself and my companion were saying, and could hold his own in an intelligent conversation. Danny was also attentive of our drink status: if we we're low he would inquire if we wanted another right away, and our waters were always full. Danny exemplifies everything a good bartender should be: personable, fun, and an focused on the customer.
I can't believe I'm doing this, but they finally won me over a little bit. I suppose this is more of a 3.5 stars.... but I'll round up to 4, because they've had a long, strange journey.
T's pub V1.0 was expensive, jockish, and almost a bit weird honestly. Maybe it was just me. 973 Commonwealth was the same crap, with seemingly lower standards. T's Pub V2.0 is honestly not bad. I worked right above this place for over 3 years, and it was nice to FINALLY be able to order a decent lunch from T's!
It's typical bar food, but they finally do a consistently good job with it. The beers are your usual joe-shmoe sports bar beer selection. Lots of TVs. And the service is very good. PLLLEEEAASE don't change it again!

Maybe if you invested some time in getting good staff instead of worrying about what you are called I would be back.
no matter how many times you flip the name back and forth it's not going to change the fact that this place is ruined by recent management/ownership changes. I went into T's last month before a show at the Paradise. Like I have a million times before. Just needing a quick bite to eat and a couple of beverages.
The guy at the door could have been anyone. He wasn't terribly pleasant but wasn't awful. He wasn't a hostess he only checked our id's. We wandered into the "dining room" where there was a private party taking over most of the area, there were about 10-15 people there for this. Fine, we made our way to the table on the edge of the area not being used.
And then we sat.
And sat.
For 10 minutes.
Waitstaff walked by us, they cleaned the tables near us, they ignored us when we tried to get their attention.
We left. At this point after having wasted a good 15 minutes.
This place is closed under the 973 Commonwealth name and reopened under T's Pub. Â It was just ok before and has gotten worse now. Â I went with three friends before a concert next door at the Paradise and were disappointed with the service and food.
I know this place is brand new but there was only one waitress to a room filled with maybe 20 large tables. Â She was friendly but obviously couldn't handle that many people and we saw at least a couple groups of people walk out after waiting for 10 minutes for a menu. Â After waiting for about 15 minutes for a pitcher of beer we had ordered, we just went to the bar and ordered another one. Â The worst part is that there appeared to be a manager just schmoozing with a group near the kitchen!
The food was just ok when it finally came out. Â My chicken sandwich was a lot more bun than chicken. Â My girlfriend's burger was under-seasoned and overcooked. Â The worst part is that it was cold when it reached the table. Â
It would be a great place to see a game given all the TV's surrounding the place so hopefully they can fix their issues soon.
973 is a great place to catch a brew and watch your favorite Boston Sports team. Between the HUGE projection TV, the solid beer list, and then good food you really cannot go wrong. I've checked it out quite a few time with friends, and i'm confident in saying we will all continue to do so.
In short, it's not much of a date place, that is unless your date likes sports in which case, pull up a bar stool order some wings and enjoy the monster projection TV that is such a big part of 973
I was in last Friday when the Bruins and Sox were both playing, there was a good crowd but it was no where near packed. Some friends had already ordered before we got there and after about 20 minutes the waitress came over and asked us what we'd like to drink, we figured this would probably be the only chance we'd get to order so we placed our drink and food order at the same time. Drinks came quickly but it took about an hour to get our food (Spaghetti and a Veggie Burger) and our friends that had ordered before we got there had their food arrive 15 minutes after ours.
Spaghetti and their "homemade sauce" was terrible, it was like a mixture of 1 part ketchup and 9 parts water. Veggie burger was okay.
Waitstaff wasn't very attentive in greeting us or checking in to see if we needed refills. Over all service was pretty bad.
Waitress kept telling us the kitchen was slammed but the whole place wasn't even full so I can't imagine how bad service would be if they were busy.
Next time we'll just go to Sunset across the street.
I was here in the fall for drinks and dinner before seeing Billy Talent next door at Paradise. When we got there we actually saw BT's guitar player come in to grab a big bag of takeout for the band.
973 Comm has a ton of TVs and a huge projector playing any and every sports game that's on at the time.
According to my half-finished review from 5 months ago I had the chicken sandwich and it was a pretty damn good sandwich. I'll trust I knew what I was talking about and stick with that and the 4 / 5 stars that I rated it.
Formerly T's Pub, I love 973 for what it is. It might be trying to be a cool, upscale, trendy place, but it's really just another glorified BU bar. Embrace that and you'll have a great time. So the drinks are a bit pricier then they were at T's, just bat your eyelashes at a BU frat boy and you'll be set for the night.
One thing that is markedly better at this place is the service. The bartenders and cocktail waitresses are always friendly and attentive, which is impressive considering the crowd on the weekends. I can't say anything for their food, but my drinks have always been fine, even if I can't remember what I ordered the next morning.
If I were a BU student, or had I been a BU student, I could definitely see the draw of this place. Total college bar.
Props for having PBR tall boys and UFO Raspberry on tap. More props for having karaoke on Tuesday night.
The bar is big with plenty of large screens for the games. The bartenders are really nice too. Beware of all the BU guys ordering PBR's and opening up tabs on their mom's credit cards.
This place got packed on Tuesday night which I appreciate... Tuesdays are the new Thursdays. The average age here was about 21... but if your an alumni, you should have no problem returning to your old stomping ground.
973 is located at the site of the former bar known as T's pub (where people come to meet). Â Are they trying too hard by having a restaurant/bar named as a number? more specifically, their address? My co-worker and I decided to check it out since we loved T's pub so much, especially with Jim, the clown/bartender. Â
We noticed that not much visibly changed, just a little things here and there, but the skeleton of T's was still there. The barware lighting changes colors, and the tequila/margarita machine is gone, and the bar stools have been updated. Â There are 4 or 5 more flat screen TVs than previously. Â So, I'm a little confused if 973 wants to be a lounge or a sports bar?
We took a seat and ordered from this new menu. There was quite a selection, anything from from burgers, comfort food, and classic american sandwiches. I had the mac n' cheese, which was alright--a step up from Easy Mac, but not much. Â However, for the $10 price tag, I would have expected a little more.
My co-worker ordered the 4-cheese grilled cheese and had a similar opinion. It was okay, but nothing special. The waiter did recommend getting the fried green beans as the side, instead of the sweet potato fries, french fries, or onion rings. Â We tried it...it was good. It had the same batter that onion rings or hush puppies have. Â I really couldn't taste the green beans, but I guess if you are going to try to be healthy, at least its a fried vegetable, right? Â All in all, the service was good, food was okay...nothing special. Â I'll probably come back for drinks but will probably opt out of the food.
Say it aint so. My virginal BU drinking experience is now gone.
"After 27 years of business, T's Pub located at 973 Commonwealth Ave Boston, MA (next to the Paradise Rock Club) has been sold. (I heard he sold it to his son--so we may be ok after all)
T's Pub was Boston's first and longest running sports bar.
A pioneer in Boston's nightlife, it was the first bar in Boston to feature karaoke, team trivia, and the "DJPower" video player.
It will be closed until late October and remodeled... but it will never be the same without Steve there!

I must thank Steve personally for playing a part in having few very memories of my Freshman year at BU.
Cool bar, Nice layout, Just went for some drinks with friends so I don't know how the food is.
Only downside is the drinks are not even money for example a coors light was $2.60 or the bud light was $3.60. We got some shots and it came to some odd uneven number.
Other then that nice place.

T's lounge is your basic sports bar... with some incredibly cheezy gimmicks that no one really cares about.
Certainly not worth a nightmare trip out on the green line for.
T's has to get 5 stars since I frequented it during my time in college like Norm did Cheers. Â Okay, maybe not that frequent but if I wanted to go out, I knew I could have a good time at T's.
It's honestly not deserving of 5 stars but I went to BU and lived right by it. Â My friends and I were always there on Tuesdays for karaoke and I love my friends so T's wins by default.
Karaoke is hilarious and deserving of 4 stars on its own.

I couldn't have said it better myself...guess that's why I didn't and quoted someone else...eeeh, anyways.
So yeah, I went to T's before a show at the Paradise with a friend of mine. Decent sized crowd, friendly wait staff and alright selection of beers. Definitely a destination for the avid sports guy/gal - they had a big screen in the back playing that nights Celtics game and I noticed a majority of the patrons wearing sports hats and jerseys.
Ill probably end up here again at some point before another show at the Paradise. Not a place I organize a night around, but not bad to chill, eat some grub and kill some time until your band(s) goes on.
A stellar example of a mediocre sports bar. Seriously. That being said, I really don't mind T's all that much. In fact I like any bar where a waitress will walk right up to a gang of 5 scruffy guys huddled around a scratch ticket vending machine and perpetually refill their whiskeys and beers. The beer selection is not the reason to come here, nor is the food. In fact why the hell you would want to come here is well beyond me. But, that's ok this is just one of those joints that once you end up at a few times you will find yourself coming back to over time because it is just so very, very 'OK'.
Review Source:I almost want to give T's 4 stars but things can go either way with this joint. My softball team heads here after our weekly slaughter on Nickerson Field. The food can be kind of crappy but if you know what to order, it's fine. Stick with the individual pizzas (pretty good) and burgers or sandwiches. Be warned, if you want a sandwich, they regularly run out of bread options by 7pm so you'll be stuck with rye. Beers are average price with a couple of cheap deals that are well worth it after a few good pints. Service can be super slow or it can be great. You never know what will happen! The suspense!!
T's is a great place for a large group. You can basically take over the entire bar and shove the stragglers out of the way. What? Is that rude? It's also good for watching games. The many TVs and gigantic projection screen ensure that you truly can't avoid watching. Good for me, bad for those who don't give a damn about the Sox. But really, if you don't care, why are you at a crappy sports pub during game time?
I don't even know where to start with T's.
In college, T's was the bar that we always planned to NOT to go, but where we always ended up (along with the rest of BU) at the end of the night.
On one hand, I really did enjoy T's when it was on my list of top drinking spots. The mixed drinks are cheap and large, and I was guaranteed to know at least half the people inside.
On the other hand, I have no desire to frequent this place now. Â I definitely burnt myself out on this bar, and I'm not into hanging out with hammered college students. T's was great because it was there. I put in my required time, and I'm more than happy to let the current co-eds take my spot at the bar.
T's is pretty unremarkable, but it's not a bad place (it's just not a "good" place either). Â
Generally you'll never find me in there unless I'm: a. with some inebriated friends who don't know I took them in there; b. some tired friends who just want to drink; or c: there's a show at Paradise and I'm hanging out waiting for things to get started. Â High points are that they have karaoke sometimes, and, when not full of BU students, this place is often full of BU alum (much older alum), who attempt to drink as if they're still in college, and then get into all sorts of lovely trouble. Â Nothing like having a bunch of spastic 40 year old bachelors trying to grind on the dancefloor, sidle up to you, yell "I played Rugby in college" over the music, and then try to hold hands with you....Oh T's pub...you do encourage such bad behavior.
Oh--and skip the food--unless you like fried crap. Â Service is pretty terrible anyway.
This place receives 3 stars because it had a wonderful trivia night back in the day. I wonder if its still going on. I don't think I have ever had a meal there but I do remember some guy who was eating spaghetti. Who eats spaghetti at  a bar? He didn't appreciate it when I threw my half full (yes I'm optimistic) Sam Light on him. It was worth the bloody nose I received.  A buddy of mine did Karoke there once I think he did "Dirty Water." He was good but he really should have kept his shirt on. :(
Review Source:Ok so I may have gone on the wrong night but what the heck? The place was FILLED WITH MEN. My friend and I were among the only girls in the place for a Wed. night happy hour....
We asked the host/doorman if they were sponsoring an elks meeting or some other kind of men's social group....nope...apparently this is just where dudes of all ages hang.....
The bar itself is ok....but really nothing to write home about .....It sounds like Tuesday is the only fun night there....I may have to go back for that.
The reason they get three stars instead of 2 is because I ordered turkey tips and salad and it was surprisingly yummy.....
I know not my most creative review but I thought I would share anyway:)
Not my kind of place... Â somewhat average, well-priced (cheap) bar food.
However, 2 things make me give it a 2:
1-Mix 98.5/Kiss 108 radio/mom friendly rock music blasting even with a live DJ
2-Nachos are worse than High-school lunch nachos
It's an OK place, but I won't be going back there...
